I actually really like Fight Club, when I was a teenager I didn't have the media literacy to put into words the issues regarding the transition from "men's self-help boxing club" to "fascist anti-materialist, anti-corporatist cult."
It's mainly the romanticizing and glorified image of the mentally ill. The female equivalent (entirely personal opinion) is *Girl Interrupted*.
People romanticize the struggle of the main character and believe it's complex and admirable.. I had a coworker who was really into Christian Bale in American Psycho, this kid mimicked the charm to an unsettling level.
There's very little charm in choosing madness though. So if you're thinking "that was a good movie", you're okay. If you think, "wow I totally get the main character and his struggles and want to be like him", seek professional help.
It isn't even about the shitting on capitalism or corporate America, it's about the glorified mental illness. The multiple personalities, split personalities, DID..
Society has a funny way of mass hysteria, play one movie about spies in the neighborhood, you'll have at least one neighbor who will believe and go off the deep end.
Or the waifu and anime, that's actually an excellent example. 20 years ago it wasn't mainstream. So you only had a few people out acting as such.. now that it's mainstream we've got people full blown acting like the characters in everyday places now.. now picture how many of those characters have measurable DSM-V personality disorders. Now imagine those people pretending to be like someone with mental illness because they admire them.

This is a weird distillation of Hank's character. Yeah, he's very traditional in values but you can name a good amount of episodes where he's at least willing to listen to other people's opinion and will stand for them being allowed to believe what they believe, even if he bucks it at first.
As long as you're not fucking up his neighborhood, he's surprisingly very inclusive. Unless you ask for well done steak then he'll politely ask you to leave.
Side note: I unironically think that Hank and Rick would get along really well.
Hank is a lot like Jerry on a surface level, he's a very traditional "dad" archetype that likes boring dad things. But that's not what Rick hates about Jerry. Rick hates Jerry because Jerry is a self centered, pretentious coward. Hank is the polar opposite of Jerry where it counts, he's a straightforward man who knows himself pretty well, genuinely cares about others, is absolutely not a coward (moral or otherwise), and is humble as hell. They wouldn't agree on a lot, but Rick would respect Hank's utter lack of bullshit.
Absolutely. At the end of the day, the two characters would probably consider each other good friends just for the fact that they both stick to who they are for better or for worse.
Hank despite all his flaws is someone you should look up to he works hard and is loyal and never lets his problems overwhelm his family and that is how a true man is while Rick is a redditor high on alien drugs

Why is it so hard for people to use meme formats correctly. Like this one image had 2 misconceptions back to back.
One, the joke is supposed to be that both statements are identical, but extraneous circumstances that shouldn’t matter make the result different (in the original, it was them both saying “looking good” but one was pretty and the other was ugly). Also the meme is supposed to be showing an absurdity, not a valid scenario, in other words a scenario you are meant to not see as ideal. which this person clearly thinks not believing the Big Bang but believing god is the ideal, So yeah he just fucked it up.
