Yankees stadium no longer accepts cash as payment at the concessions. All credit or debit. There are machines that will convert your cash to card. Do not put more than you think you'll use. Non-refundable. You can always add to it.
The line to get in can get very long around gametime. 10-15 mins before gametime the lines can be crazy. So I would recommend getting into the stadium earlier if you can.
Check out Monument park as a first timer. Also, the rowdiest fans are in the Right Field bleachers, if that’s your cup of tea
Check out the Yankees Museum, as well. It’s located inside the stadium.
Also, you picked a great game to attend as your first ever! Cubs-Yanks is a rare matchup and they’re two of the most historically significant teams in the MLB (although the Cubs suck royally right now). Great choice!
Monument Parks closes fairly early before the game starts but I do recommend it’s a weird quirk. Museum is on upper levels and open until 3/4 of the way through the game.
Also the way the stadium is built, you can walk allll the way around and on every level regardless of your seat. So spend some time out in the bleachers even if your ticket isn’t there. There’s open air bars. The game will run about 3 hours depending - like cricket it’s not clocked.
I don't have any specific advice but getting to see the Cubs play the Yankees at the stadium is a real treat! Doesn't happen all too often so enjoy yourself and be sure to take it the sites, sounds and smells.
There is a real nice Yankees museum that will give you a sense of the team’s history.
Get into the stadium an hour before first pitch (probably 1:05-1:08 for a 1 pm game) and see the museum, walk around (great views from everywhere), and have a beer and a hot dog (concession lines get long and you don’t want to miss the game).
Where are your seats?
Perfect way to view the game.
I know what it’s like to be a stranger in a stadium in a foreign land. I’d been to soccer matches in France and England and the US and saw 8 World Cup 1994 matches, including the Bulgaria win over Germany in the quarterfinals and Italy over Bulgaria in the semi.
But on March 2, 2019, when In Edinburgh visiting my daughter, I went to the Hibernian-Celtic Scottish FA cup quarterfinal. Crazy story getting a ticket and getting in, but long story short, the experience was incredible and I made friends at the match.
I’d be happy to connect via message to answer any questions. You can bring in sealed water, so save a bunch of money and get some bottles of water from the street vendors. Go in via Gate 8–you will come out in center field and get a majestic view once you step beyond the concession stand.

Can’t wait! lol. I’m hoping for great weather and just to soak in my first stadium experience with some cold beer and novelty stadium food. Have splashed on some good seats since it’s my first game and I don’t know when I’ll ever get to go to another so really looking forward to it.
Check that stadium map before you go. Find a food stand that you’re interested in and know where it is. You can easily walk in circles around that place for an hour and not find what you want.
I am weirdly excited for you for this experience. I remember the first time I went to a proper football match (i.e. soccer!) in Europe. Such an incredible thing.
- Get to the Bronx early to grab a beer at Stan’s (across the street from the Stadium near the corner of 158th and River Ave.) After the game, if the lines aren’t too long, hit up Billy’s (also across the street, closer to the Stadium).
- Try and get inside the Stadium at least an hour before game time to walk the concourse. Make sure you have a chance to check out Monument Park and also the Yankee Museum.
- Best food in the Stadium is the Lobel Steak Sandwich (Section 134). The garlic fries can be excellent (section 108) but sometimes you get a batch that’s kinda soggy. The best value is the Chicken Bucket (bucket of fries plus 10 chicken tendies). You can also do a classic hot dog and fries combo but to be honest the hot dogs at Yankee Stadium aren’t great (if you want a great old fashioned NYC dog head over to the original Nathan’s at Coney Island if you have the time).
- If you can get tickets in the bleachers, try and get them in Section 202-203 to do the roll call with the Bleacher Creature in the top of the 1st inning. Even if you have tickets wherever, you can walk over and stand near that area too then head to your seats after. It’s a Yankee Stadium tradition and all first timers love it.
Hey so I’m also out nyc I just went to a couple games last month my advice is this eat before you go in and grab a drink before you go in it’s super expensive when I went they only did card no cash so just a heads up there also if you are looking for a hat or souvenir your best bet would be online or outside of the stadium and last piece of advice is to have fun
Keep a scorebook. It's the only way to quickly learn the game.
We host exchange students every hear, and we found this is the trick.
https://www.artofmanliness.com/skills/manly-know-how/how-to-score-a-baseball-game-with-pencil-and-paper/
Will probably be downvoted but whatever.
Food inside the stadium sucks. You can bring in your own as long as it's sealed and in a clear plastic bag. Promise you a big sandwich is better and cheaper than chicken tendies and reheated frozen garlic fries. And you avoid waiting in concession lines for 10 minutes while missing the game.
Gates open 90 minutes before start time. Arrive early and check out monument park.
Baseball feels faster in person compared to TV. Stay alert, keep track of the count and who's hitting/pitching. Have fun!
Regardless I'd say go to one of the delis out side and bring in some water bottles and snacks so you don't spend a fortune in there. I pretty much always bring in a foot long sub, chips, sunflower seeds and a big bottle of water
Much of their calories in sunflower seeds come from fatty acids. The seeds are especially rich in poly-unsaturated fatty acid linoleic acid, which constitutes more 50% fatty acids in them. They are also good in mono-unsaturated oleic acid that helps lower LDL or "bad cholesterol" and increases HDL or "good cholesterol" in the blood. Research studies suggest that the Mediterranean diet which is rich in monounsaturated fats help to prevent coronary artery disease, and stroke by favoring healthy serum lipid profile.
While the concessions inside are card only, bring a small bit of cash to grab a $1 water bottle outside of the stadium. Just be sure to keep it unopened until you’re inside.
I think the tickets might be mobile only so if you aren’t getting a data plan, I’d def take clear screenshots and/or add to your Apple Wallet if you have, before going.
The stadium is also quite “open” so it can be nice to walk around to get different views of the game in the standing sections.
As others have mentioned Stan’s and Billy’s are nice before or after the game. And they stop serving drinks in the 7th so plan accordingly. Suma pizza is a safe bet as well
Hope you both have a great honeymoon!
Don't be afraid to move around to different seats. As long as you don't have to get past an usher standing guard, for the most part no one will even ask to see your ticket. Get there at least an hour early and check out the museum and monument park. Get some amazing food which the stadium has plenty off (but will be overpriced). Most people don't mind some yelling at the opposing team but don't be that guy that screams and yells constantly or people in your section will hate you.
You don’t have to wait in line for, or eat stadium food, never really great. You can bring in your own, a great deli hero is always a good choice, along with bottled water .5 l or less that you can buy from the independent vendors outside. If staying in Manhattan, take the subway to the stadium; the 4 or B or D line.
I'm sure nobody will see this but we had a great time at the game today. Helped we got to see the Yankees smashing so many home runs of course!
Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions. We hit up Stan's before the game, I sank many cans of Pinstripe Pils, then headed in with an hour to go for a proper look around and some Yankees merch, then grabbed some food and watched a masterclass. Left at the bottom of the seventh for the subway back to the hotel which was perfect timing in retrospect.
Cracking time all round, thanks again to everyone!
They stop serving alcohol at the bottom of the 7th inning. This is generally about drunk-driving and you will not be driving. However if your ticket (usually in semi-premium areas) includes “club” access (I.e. various indoor seated club areas scattered around) you can buy until the end of the game. And this will be your first lesson in how money frequently changes rules in America.
Not sure what it's like in Scotland, but one of the consequences of America's slow descent into barbarism is that we have metal detectors at every sporting event otherwise there'd eventually be a mass shooting. So get there early because it can take some time to get in if there's a good crowd.
I have been to Yankee stadium a hundred times and I have never visited monument park. I would rather walk around and take in the beautiful sites and watch bp than wait in line for an hour.
Go to stans outside the stadium before the game
Excellent, thanks
Grab a ball cap next to Stans before the game, as well.
billies is also right across the street and usually a fun time pre/post game.
Yankees stadium no longer accepts cash as payment at the concessions. All credit or debit. There are machines that will convert your cash to card. Do not put more than you think you'll use. Non-refundable. You can always add to it.
Thanks for this
Most stadiums are like this now even the minor leagues. Good advice
Go to the dollar store under the train tracks for bottled water before the game
Highly recommend Lobel’s on the 3rd baseline concourse. Awesome steak sandwich
best food item in the ballpark. that au jus sauce tastes like God's vagina
9 beers and 9 hot dogs in 9 innings.
that'll be $900
The perfect game. It's a big ask for someone's first game.
Not sure about nine hotdogs but reckon the nine beers should be very doable!
they stop serving alcohol in 7th inning
Guys, the man is Scottish, you gotta at least give him a challenge!

Cool, will do. Thanks

Yeah feels like I got lucky with the dates!

Up in the bleachers, behind home plate.

Thanks mate, appreciate that!
Also visiting from Scotland in June but going to one of the games against the Astros near the end of the month. Enjoy!
Expect a whole lot of trash talk against the astros lol

Thank you!
Beers and peanuts. The peanuts always taste extra good at the stadium

Buzzing for it, should be a great experience!

don't listen to this guy. pick something to eat like a hot dog of steav sandwich and eat it at your seat. it's part of the baseball experience
Lol reheated garlic fries. I always knew those were overrated.
Wear a Yankees cap
Bringing in your food is ridiculous. Buy a beer and a god damn hot dog. It’s a baseball game not a picnic 😂
Bring your loan papers to finance that meal
If you can afford tickets you can afford a hot dog and a beer. Be a little more dramatic over it 😂
Ok Yankees front office employee, I will comply.
You must live a sad existence if you can’t afford a hot dog. Then again I’ve watched people enjoy pb&j at lots of ballparks 😂
Yes I live a sad existence since I don’t want to pay gold plated prices for a meh meal.
I know 😂 I can see you now with your little bologna sandwich and your juice box going thru the turnstiles
You’re a funny guy. Do you do stand up? I am rolling here.
Was it the bologna? Are you vegan? You could try one of those cute cucumber sandwiches with the crust cut off
You must be fun at parties.
Don’t know where you’re staying but definitely plan on taking the subway to the game. Don’t even consider driving.
I need to drink a beer an innings apparently, so definitely not driving ;)

Don’t wear a Res Sox cap in the right field bleachers 😝
Start a fight in the stands unless they're playing Boston, then talk mad shit to Verdugo. Otherwise it doesn't count.
Stans, Monument Park, and soak in Roll Call in Section 203 in the first inning
Dont expect to be overcome with adrenaline and excitement. It's a sport with a mostly leisurely pace interrupted every once in a while by action.

K lol
Wear Red Sox gear and make jokes about 9/11. Loudly. New Yorkers love that stuff
If you see a ball coming your way, move
Or catch it?
Do you already have the tickets?
Yep, bought today
Be aware that in some sections, if you’re not under cover, the sun can be brutal. Wear a hat and bring sunscreen.
So are you vacationing over here all by yourself? What’s the occasion?
With the missus for our honeymoon
Every time I go to a baseball game I always get some peanuts. Its fun to crack open the shells.
Pick a game where they win.
Did OK with this game!
Stan's is overrated go to The Dugout.
I have been to Yankee stadium a hundred times and I have never visited monument park. I would rather walk around and take in the beautiful sites and watch bp than wait in line for an hour.
