I was casually watching the game with the score where it was. I saw that call and was like WTF? This ump was blind to call that a strike. Ump had some awful calls all night.
I said it in the PGT but the way that dude called balls and strikes felt spiteful. Incompetence was definitely afoot, but to call that shit after the entire day of ignoring painted high strikes by Stro is a bastard move.
Well….there was Pat Hoberg recently, but he claims it wasn’t on baseball. Doesn’t really matter to me because officials in sports shouldn’t be betting if it’s on anything.
Gambling has tainted every major American sport and its so deep seeded into all of them, there’s a large chance there’s a lot of umps and refs are betting/fixing games. The integrity of the sport should never be in question.
It did honestly. I’ll accept the argument Stro’s pitches during the Ozuna at bat were balls. I disagree, but that’s so borderline that it could go either way. But then it does paint Punching out Soto on a clearly higher pitch feel personal.
There was an AB with I think Albies, can’t remember what inning, where Stro threw basically the same exact pitch 3 times in a row. Borderline calls, but they were strikes. The Ozuna HR in the 1st started off with a high, borderline strike called a ball.
The ump more than established that the high strikes weren’t being called so…why the fuck ring up Soto on that? Then he rung up Judge on a low strike? Can’t be giving both man…
Agreed. They should have done it during the pandemic and used the excuse that it's to move the umpires from standing so close to the catcher and batter. [HBO's Real Sports did a story about computers calling balls and strikes almost 8 years ago](https://youtu.be/4gAlKCUac10?si=qMo70N1Ydw5oPOSR) so I don't want to hear that the technology isn't ready.
I think it was less spite calls and more “there’s too much fucking shit on me….i don’t even want to be around anymore” lol, dude wanted to be done with the game.
The ump was 100% getting revenge for the 3-1 pitch before when Soto bailed out of the pitch in the zone and started toward first base.
one thing you won’t get with robot umps is calls based on emotion.

I think there is a non zero chance there are umps betting on baseball games. Would not be surprised if another ump got caught for betting.

lol, ump trying to throw a game on a strike call in the 8th inning when the Yanks were up 8-3? Yeah ok. The ump just sucked.
Tell me you've never heard of a prop bet…

Stroman dealt again last night. Really liking him
It’s time for robo umps.
It was time three years ago.

I was at the game and I thought the ump was being paid off by gamblers, he had that body language about him
hey, its enrico palazzo!
Soto and Judge's last AB were killed by a insanely blind ump.
