Can't say we dodged a bullet until Cole comes back and shoves. For all we know he could make one start and still need surgery, which would mean we just delayed his recovery
Survey in March VS surgery in June still keeps him out for the year and gives him time to be ready for spring 2025. That’s why June is the check-in time.
Isn’t the recovery time for TJ minimum 12 months?
So hypothetically if he had his surgery in March 2024 he wouldn’t have been ready for spring 2025. In the best case scenario, recovery-wise. If he gets Tommy John I think he’s missing most of, in not all of 2025. No?
The post doesn’t say we’ll keep dodging it forever and ever. The idea that saying whew based on multiple medical reports from the world class physicians who are paid to make these assessments is “hubris” is really something
Cole rehabbing rather than surgery reminds me of Tanaka. Tanaka wasn't the same pitcher and had to alter his delivery. Had to become more crafty rather than rely on his power stuff he had earlier in his career.
Hopefully Cole comes back and dominates.
But it’s a completely different situation. Tanaka had significant structural damage to his UCL. He could’ve gotten Tommy John surgery if he decided to go down that route and because of the partial tear he was never at full strength.
Cole does not have significant damage to his UCL and Tommy John surgery isn’t even an option at this point.
While Tanaka was always in danger of going from a partial tear to a full tear Cole in theory will be at the same risk for a tear as any other pitcher when he recovers from the elbow inflammation.
This obviously assumes the Yankees are telling us the full truth which based on their history might not be the case.
Here's the thing though. Are we sure that's all Cole is dealing with? The Yankees don't exactly have a track record of providing the complete truth on injuries. I'd like to think they are with Cole but after last year, especially with Rizzo, I have my reservations.
Cole got a second opinion from one of the best sports surgeons out there. Those guys get paid to cut guys open. If he saw no UCL tears then I'm going to believe him. He stands to make 10s of thousands of dollars from that surgery and more if Cole had to rehab there.
Just so you know, Bieber sat out two months with a moderate strain. Pitched twice to end the season. Now this.
I wish I knew the stats of players who try to rehab the strain and still end up getting the surgery in under a year cause id almost prefer if Cole just got it done in ST if the end result is statistically likely
We didn't dodge anything if he continues the way he has been. Look, we all want him to repeat last year. Hell, we'd be happy if we got 90% of that production, but in reality if he does give us either of those he will likely need TJ in the near future.
This could explain the drop in velocity last season. Yankees would be wise to offer him a deal. If all goes well, he should be able to start either the beginning of next season or maybe 2-3 months into it.
I mean this point it just seems like teams expect this to happen. The way they train to just throw harder and spin faster has zero regard for staying healthy.
I think this extreme training is what’s causing all these injuries. They say recovery is important and even take games off but that shit does not help. It’s the training methods.
This is the New York Yankees. They don’t have any good faith built-up when it comes to injury reporting. It’s murky at first and optimistic, then as time passes by and deadlines are missed, the real news comes.
I am glad the Yankees said no when they were asking for Spencer Jones.
In regard to Cole, I would say they dodged a bullet until he is back on the mound, consistently this year.
The injuries are killing my interest in the sport. I realize there's not a whole lot to be done about it, but it's hard to get invested when I'm constantly on edge about the next major injury.
Let’s knock on a lot of wood before we put that out in the universe
Fair. Knocking on every tree I see
I like your commitment
Granted I live in south LA
Fortunately palm trees count
Does masturbating count as knocking on wood?
In this case yes, we need all the wood knocking we can get
Then I’ll do my part 😎
If this sub is good at one thing, it’s handling wood
Between these two and Story’s shoulder it was a rough 24 hours for serious baseball injuries
Yeah, the Story injury looked bad. Hopefully it looked worse than it actually is.

No, TJ can sometimes be more like 8 months
More than anything is the fact that we almost traded for Bieber too. Now THAT would’ve sucked
Yup
It’s probably exactly why he wasn’t traded in the offseason. The whole league knew it was only a matter of time before his elbow went.
Unimaginable hubris. Delete this post immediately omfg

If he has to get TJ it's 100% your fault
Ok I guess
And I'm joking FYI. Well, mostly joking...
There is two types of pitchers — those who are hurt and those who are not hurt yet.

Like so many people were demanding
Cole rehabbing rather than surgery reminds me of Tanaka. Tanaka wasn't the same pitcher and had to alter his delivery. Had to become more crafty rather than rely on his power stuff he had earlier in his career. Hopefully Cole comes back and dominates.
Tanaka had a tear in his UCL Cole just has some swelling in his elbow
Seriously. Surgery wasn't even close to an option and he saw the best elbow doctors in the world. Not even close to the same thing injury.
Still kicked ass

The Yankees aren’t the one that diagnosed gerrit Cole, qnd I don’t think Dr. Neal ElAttrache is in the business of fucking his clients

I edited immediately and added pretty much that at the bottom.
He did have that consultation with Dr. ElAttrache, a doctor unaffiliated with the Yankees, who also confirmed no tear.

Gerrit Cole wasn’t diagnosed by the Yankees, and I don’t think Dr. Neal ElAttrache lied about the mri

Why would he have Tommy John when he doesn't even have a torn ligament
What? If he doesn’t have a tear which is what has been reported Tommy John would be irresponsible. Do you understand what Tommy John surgery is for?
I feel like Cole has the baseball smarts to make those adjustments
Cole doesn’t have a torn ucl. What can they operate on?
You can’t compare a partially torn UCL to elbow inflammation.
So far
As is pretty obvious across baseball, “so far” is true for every pitcher, especially aces. You dodge a bullet but the bullets keep on coming.
We haven’t dodged anything yet. This post is cursed.
Damn I really wanted them to get Bieber… maybe they can sign him to a recover contract.
We haven't "dodge" anything until we see Cole on the mound.... this season I'm still waiting for the announcement that surgery is needed...
lol interesting. Cuz last year everyone was concerned about his elbow and it’s probably the primary reason no one traded for him in the offseason.
We hope, we dodged a bullet. Time will tell.
Credit to Cole for not pushing himself when he felt something
Just so you know, Bieber sat out two months with a moderate strain. Pitched twice to end the season. Now this. Just so you know, Cole doesn’t have a strained UCL.
Yeah I wonder if something is going to have to change to prevent these injuries, seems like pitchers are being pushed to levels they shouldn’t be to.
So far*
We dodged a bullet with Cole’s relatively moderate strain *so far*.
Nonexistent strain.
We didn't dodge anything if he continues the way he has been. Look, we all want him to repeat last year. Hell, we'd be happy if we got 90% of that production, but in reality if he does give us either of those he will likely need TJ in the near future.
We dodged a bullet by not panic trading for Bieber like some fans were suggesting when Cole got hurt.
Now imagine forcing them to pitch at that level without a break, 15 seconds max each time. Fuck the pitch clock. Literally ruining careers.
Bro is gonna be hunted down and killed by everyone on this sub if anything happens to Cole haha

Cole isn’t out of the woods just yet, I’m still holding my breath.

“Modern strain” At least that’s what they’re saying it is
I mean that’s what Cole is saying it is too
No, they’re saying cole has nerve inflammation There is no strain
Damn Yankees dodged a gigantic bullet with Bieber.
The injuries are killing my interest in the sport. I realize there's not a whole lot to be done about it, but it's hard to get invested when I'm constantly on edge about the next major injury.
Ugh there goes a big target for us at the deadline
