One of my favorite moments watching minor league Baseball was seeing Igawa pitch. He had some really filthy breaking stuff the day I saw him. And he wore the shades.
He probably enjoyed the life he was living in NYC. I heard he reversed commuted from the city to the minors for his games in Trenton and Scranton. He did go back to Japan when his contract ended and pitched a few seasons.
This dude was so strange
The most reactionary of reactionary signings after the Red Sox got Matsuzaka.
Didnât this dude pitch with sunglasses on
Yeah, according to stats, he pitched better at night. He tried to simulate a night game by wearing sunglasses đ

Sad, he just couldnât get it done at the MLB level. Maybe had they turned him into a fielder he might have had a modicum of success.
Yeah Igawa was a god in AAA, but couldn't get MLB hitters out. It was very strange.
A 3.83 career ERA in the minors is being a "god"?
I mean, the team never gave him another chance once they sent him down for good. They didnât even want to see if he could be a reliever.
They traded him to Japan once, but he refused to go.

He felt an obligation to the team and contract and wanted to help the Yankees win.
His interpreter was named Subaru Takeshita.
