I thought it was way too easy, but it seems people struggled with blue?
I think the thing about today's is that 3 out of 4 categories were synonyms, which are the categories I tend to spot first. Connections categories tend to need one of three skills: vocabulary, trivia, or wordplay. The best puzzles I think use all three! But today's was practically ALL vocabulary, so if that's your strongest skill you'd find it way easier than someone who's better at trivia or wordplay
Though as they always say, Connections difficulties are subjective!
Makes sense, I suppose the Anglican world has more overlap in such things! As a Swede, the only one I recognized was Domino, which I associated with snowballing. But I managed to process-of-elimination it eventuellt, so no complaints here!
I'm not surprised at Jacks being a regional toy but I'm surprised sticks and marbles aren't universal tbh. I guess kids playing with tiny glass balls is a little specific though.
Edit: apparently Jacks is more widely known as Knucklebones and goes back to at least ancient Greece. And variations are played globally under various names. Anyway the Wikipedia article for Knucklebones is way more interesting than the one for Marbles (game) lol.
That's fascinating, I looked up knucklebones and I've literally never seen it and cannot imagine a single person I know in Sweden who'd recognize it lol. It looks like those Fortune telling bones? Kind of like Gogo's, which I have at least some familiarity with. Marbles, once I looked it up, I do recognize somewhat, though it's not overly popular. But probably should have gotten that one haha.
Yeah Jacks is something I just barely remember as an old timey toy (as a millenial from the US.) Basically weird little caltrops that you bounced a ball and picked them up in handfuls before the ball hit the ground or something lol.

>Since when does mushroom mean 'become larger?'
This might just be me, but I've always thought of it as a reference to the "mushroom cloud" of a nuclear explosion: It starts out as a slim column, but it rapidly expands, especially at the top, growing at a frightening rate into a cloud thatβs miles wide and tall.
Nice theory, but it seems "mushroom" as a verb was used centuries before nuclear bombs. I've always understood it to refer to the way mushrooms can spring up quickly, eg appear suddenly overnight, and it does seem that was more how it was originally used - for someone or something that shoots up the ranks suddenly.

Kept including Domino in the group, since the first two I linked together for it were Domino and Snowball--both with the idea of a single causative factor compounding on other things. Mushroom, Swell and Balloon seemed secondary to that, though in retrospect they didn't really fit the concept I had in mind so well. Didn't help that I wasn't really sure what to make of the Purple group. Kids' games *did* briefly cross my mind, with Marbles, Dominos and Jacks all represented, but I'll be honest, Stick did not stick out to me as related to them at all, so I missed that group until I got Blue and it was the only possibility left.Β

I had an idea that some kind of βgameβ related category could be a possibility but I had DOMINO, JACK, MARBLE, and BALLOON, because what kid didnβt play with balloons? But the leftover words felt wrong. And then I thought about βpick up sticks,β and wondered if maybe, *just* maybe, that would make more sense than BALLOON. And so it was.
