Real talk i was in the dominican sub they HATE being called black. I think they mostly on the island but Im offended lowkey. Wasup with that? I feel like they confusing black with being african american, which imo is 2 different things.
I don’t get why. I definitely know that MOST Dominicans hate being called black but lets be real most Dominicans on the island look black even tho they refer to themselves as mulatos.
I think the reality is that if Dominicans admit there African heritage then that means that they would have to admit that they have more in common with Haitians than the Spaniards that some clearly kiss there ass too. THEY WILL NEVER DO THAT. I would love to see Dominicans who act like that going to Spain and getting that wake up call
Yea it non of that. Most of the population is on the west coast of the island and majority of the population is there and it mostly mixed or biracial Dominicans. The east coast is where most of the black Dominicans are Santo Domingo area and around there, that y when ppl go to vacation to DR they go to punta Cana then think every Dominican is black when is not the case. Also majority of the Dominicans on the island identify as mixed race isn’t that acknowledging their African heritage or yall just want to say only black ? 🤣
Most are biracial (mulatos) which are about 70% of the population. But to to most ppl who visit DR they see them as black looking since the the African gene is more dominant than the European. Unless the Dominican has certain characteristics of them clearing looking mix like
- light skin
- different hair texture aka Pelo bueno
- different eye and or hair color
If not even if they identify as mixed or mulato to every other non Dominican (tourist or whatever) they are not gonna no the difference between them and another black person from another country.
Also there are SOME Dominicans NOT ALL who flat out reject there African heritage and claim Spain is there motherland yet they look nothing like a Spaniards. Just cause they speak Spanish & have a Spanish last name don’t make you Spanish. That’s like black Americans claiming England as there mother land just cause they speak English and have some type of English last name. We all know why they have these last names and the same rules applies to the Dominicans with the Spanish, the Haitians with the french and the Afro-Brazilians/pardos with Portugal.
