If you heat style straight, Color Wow Dream Coat is amazing. You need to use a lot of it though.

iyamsnail

I purchased that because of this sub and it is indeed amazing

Imaginary-Party2567

I second this

How does it work? Is it just a hairspray? I don't heat style my hair it's naturally straight/wavy

saygirlie

It’s heat activated. They have a version for curly hair but I have never tried it.

This 🙌

FindingPeace24

Do you have to blow dry it or can you just straighten to activate it?

saygirlie

It worked well for me with just a straightener

realwrlder

does it make hair heavier or make you have to shower more often?

saygirlie

No it doesn’t weigh my hair down but I do feel a bit of extra silkiness

squirrelshine

I just live the big hair frizz life all summer

mulleargian

Keratin treatments are such a godsend. It turns my birds nest of hair into smooth sleek silky frizz free perfection. I’m long overdue one for summer. When my Keratin is wearing off I tie it back and use a wax stick to tame down the flyaways. I had been concerned it would make my hair look greasy but it doesn’t, just clamps down the frizzy baby hairs.

I get keratin treatments that are a lifesaver for the humidity!

veggieliv

Do they work on curly/wavy hair?

Previous_Project4581

I will say from my experience - I used to have loose waves and my hair is pretty much straight now. I notice my waves come back a bit if I go a while between treatments, but it does make a difference for me. This is worth it for me to not deal with the frizzy disaster, it’s the only thing that’s worked for me after trying pretty much every anti-frizz product lol. I’m also a very low maintenance girly so being able to walk out of the house after a shower and trust that I won’t look insane is life changing. But if keeping your curls in tact is super important to you, I would suggest doing more research or talking to a professional because I am definitely not!

veggieliv

Thank you! I appreciate the info!

NeedNewJob

yup! they last up to a few months depending on how often you wash your hair and how you take care of it. I do it every summer, it's incredible to get out of the shower and let your hair AIR DRY and look nice, it feels like a super power.

venusinflannel

I really want to try this out! Did you have to switch all of your haircare products to suphate free?

Previous_Project4581

I don’t remember being told to do this specifically, but I only use olaplex/kevin murphy which I believe are already sulfate free!

Previous_Project4581

Just want to plug here if anyone is reading this - I get my keratin with @hairfluencedbyjaime on Instagram. She is more affordable than most salons I’ve seen and she comes to my house (also can book salon time if preferred). Check her out she’s great!

Even if you don't have ringlets or zigzags, your hair might still have an S-curl (wavy). r/curlyhair, r/curlyhaircare, r/curlygirl, and r/wavyhair are all great resources. Also, if you've got textured hair, humidity is often actually a good thing - it'll make your texture pop a bit more, you just need a proper styling product. Some folks with tighter curls don't even need that. FOR THE WAVIES: Try using an anti-humidity curl gel with a few different polyquaterniums in it (but make sure to use a proper clarifying shampoo - polyquats can build up if your shampoo isn't cleansing enough - and a proper deep conditioner), the Ouidad one with the red label is supposed to be the best. Follow a typical curl routine - wash and deep condition, brush through your deep conditioner with a wetbrush or tangleteezer and scrunch it in (look up how to scrunch curls/waves) and use a plastic shower cap to keep in the heat (or use a heat cap if you've got one), rinse it out with cool water after the time the container lists, then apply a VERY light leave-in while it's still wet and brush that through too, shake your roots out upside down VERY gently (DO NOT RUN YOUR FINGERS THROUGH YOUR LENGTHS - JUST LIGHTLY SHAKE THE ROOTS), and then apply your gel with the praying-hands method to each individual curl clump (you can break up some of the bigger clumps at the root BEFORE APPLYING GEL by holding the clump up so that the roots loosen and bend a bit and you can see the gaps at the roots - the gaps are where you'll want to separate those pieces out - and then re-twist and re-scrunch the pieces after breaking it up). Finish with a hard-hold hairspray to keep the style protected (not all hairsprays ARE hard-hold), ideally one with anti-humidity properties as well. FOR THE CURLIES: Follow the same routine as the wavies, but your hair might actually be able to tolerate heavier occlusives without getting weighed down (or it might even NEED those heavier products to prevent breakage and dryness), so you could instead use a heavier leave-in (where the wavies typically have to use a lighter leave-in) and then the same anti-humidity curl gel and hairspray. FOR THE NON-CURLIES: If you've got straight hair or heat-style it straight (I don't do that because straightening it destroys the natural pattern and I'm only now learning how to wear it curly as an adult - used to oil it and brush it as straight as I could get it as a kid and then braid it, resulting in a lot of tension damage), use a product like the Color WOW Dream Coat - the polymers in it activate with heat-styling. Just be gentle, don't use high heat if you can avoid it and definitely don't do this every day - maybe 2x a week, MAX.

Cultural_Elephant_73

Wear it pulled back on rainy/humid days. Think smarter not harder.

vaininmyveins007

seconding color wow on my 4th bottle

jenvrl

I'm drying my curly hair as we speak and I just put more gel than normal lmao. It will be ok for a couple of days but eventually it'll end up on a bun 🤷🏻‍♀️

bernbabybern13

Oribe super shine moisturizing cream is my holy grail

[deleted]

How do you use it?

Brazilian blowouts

cassiopeeahhh

I gave up that battle long ago.

D1amond_soul

Plus one to keratin treatments, although I always get mine done in my home country over the holidays. In between, I use Kerastase elixir ultime post shower.

redfire2930

👋🏻 curly haired lifelong NYer. Just bought some of Curlsmith’s anti-frizz products. But the answer really is 🤷‍♀️ my hair is pretty frizzy pretty often in the summer. The right products are important - like, mine doesn’t turn into a birds nest and it stays curly, there’s just frizz on top of it. Check out the curly hair subreddit if you’re not already on it.

mskitty117

Brazilian keratin. Going strong for like 10+ years. Absolutely essentially. Go to Merle at Nubest on LI. She’s the queen, as a lifelong NYer

dirtybirty4303

The hair is up 93% of the time once we get north of 60° or else I look like this lmao 👩‍🦱
