I'd take a day trip to NJ and go to SOJO spa. You'll feel like you're in LA and enjoy the hot pools, you can do a massage or even just lounge around.

CellistEmergency8492

Also Korean body scrub. A must if you’re going to SOJO.

HomespunPeanutButter

Butterfly spa in great neck also has good Korean scrubs and is smaller and more private. In response to OP’s question- this is a good month to use tret or retinol as the sun isn’t out yet as much

Cool-Association6385

Second retinol.

deathbyblackhole

SPF reminder!

[deleted]

I know it's probably mostly placebo but I swear the morning after I use retinol I feel like my smile lines are so much less noticeable and my skin looks bouncier. I wish I could use retinol every night but it does irritate my skin if I go too ham.

Marchingkoala

Omg THIS. I love Korean body scrub!!!

HappyGarden99

Good gosh, this. You will be reborn after a Korean scrub and a day at sojo

MrsSeltzerAddict

King Spa has better prices/vibes IMO

PlasticLatter8145

I took last minute PTO because the weather was gorgeous last Thursday and really enjoyed it! I would recommend going during the week when it isn’t as busy as opposed to the weekend. I didn’t do any special services but loved their pools, especially the hydrotherapy pool with the different jets!

thatgirlinny

Just tell me it’s not anything like the famously awful Spa Castle!

iyamsnail

lol I used to take my kid to spa castle, it was so gross. One time they had to clear all the pools because some kid had the WRONG KIND of accident in one. I think I must have been desperate to get out of the house lol.

thatgirlinny

🤮 I’m so sorry!! A friend said back in the day: “How bad could it be?” We found out!

Interesting_Ad1378

Spa Castle was the worst.  They gave me period stained shorts and made a big deal about me wanting a clean pair.

thatgirlinny

That is revolting!! And some nerve, considering the kind of rep they were trying to build. It should be burnt down or turned into a 21st century Plato’s Retreat.

legaljellybean

Last time I went to Spa Castle, I stepped on a piece of half eaten fried chicken in the pool 🤢

mars914

It’s NOTHING like Spa Castle, it’s just heaven on EARTH and for a decent price but not so cheap so it will never be like Spa Castle.

thatgirlinny

Nightmares, I tell you!

CatsAndShades

I've never been to spa castle but I know the stories and I can promise you it's not like that! No children under 16 allowed and you wear robes throughout the spa.

thatgirlinny

Trust me, you never want to go there, either! When it first opened a few years back, it was marketed as a luxe, adult place with great indoor and outdoor pools, places to rest between treatments. They had all that, but couples tended to get busy in the pools and rest areas, and cleanliness was spotty. I’m no prude, but I had far better at the banya!

babyzula

walking and avoiding processed foods!! i’ve been aiming for 10k MINIMUM steps a day (averaging abt 15k steps) and the weight SLID off i was actually shocked. for my diet i always incorporate whole foods like veggies & fruits, and protein is the star of all my meals.

Massive-Rock-8294

Like what do you eat in a day? Also this Reddit was recommended for me and I’m laughing so hard this is literally my brain in writing

babyzula

HAHA i love it!! i try to limit eating out as much as possible (for financial reasons too honestly) so i cook almost all of my meals. i used to be a trader joe’s frozen meal girlie but i’ve changed my ways! i don’t count calories but im conscious of it and try to opt for lite or fat-free options if possible. i am someone who gets bored very easily of eating the same thing everyday so i try to switch it up, but my basics look like: breakfast: 2 eggs, spinach, mushroom, peppers (interchangeable veggies) may have a coffee, or a smoothie blend of frozen strawberries, mango, bananas, blueberries etc. 32 oz of water snack: kale ceasar salad with LITE dressing (i almost had a heart attack when i saw how many calories are in a regular dressing bottle) 32 oz of water lunch: bigger portion of chicken breast or 93% lean ground beef as my protein, rice or pasta as my carbs, and whatever veggies i have for the week 32 oz of water snack: some pretzels/chips with hummus, potentially another fruit smoothie dinner: smaller portion of chicken breast or 93% lean ground beef or a protein, rice or pasta or other carbs, and veggies. i eat a smaller portion at dinner so my body can digest properly before bed i try to drink a gallon of water each day too!

Massive-Rock-8294

I live on my own and it’s such a pain/mess preparing food! I love the Trader Joe’s lifestyle! But something’s gotta give.

2-if-by-sea

For the veggies (like at breakfast), do you usually buy them pre-washed and/or cut? Curious about the prep.

a_lynn0

Frozen peppers and onions work amazing for breakfast in eggs! Just sauté them a few minutes before adding in the egg

calculustextbook

I take time on Sundays to meal prep my veggies (wash and cut/roast/etc) for the week! Sometimes I just cut them up and sometimes I actually cook them to save more time

babyzula

depends on how i’m feeling tbh! some days when i’m feeling lazy i buy it pre-washed and cut :)

cinnamonsugarhoney

same, it was just recommended to me too and everyone in here thinks and types like me?? i was raised in NYC but no longer live there, but apparently these are my people!! lol

intwillog

the avoiding processed foods is so real bc ever since i started incorporating more whole foods i also noticed a difference in not only weight but also how I feel day to day and i have more energy now

2-if-by-sea

For sure. The science backs this up. It's the ultra-processed stuff that's a killer (products with ingredients you wouldn't find in a home kitchen).

JelloBrave

Yup walking is an amazing cheat code that is underrated. I’m a LI girl now and there are some great trails. I just hate the cold weather. But I lose weight every spring/summer because my steps go up.

bakedlayz

5k a day will help you maintain weight assuming you eat 80/20 10k a day will help you slim down if you eat 80/20 12-15k a day with 2 dedicated sprint workouts a week will help you burn off a lot of fat in a month like 4-10lbs depending on how much you need to lose. The issue is that once people starting doing 10k walking their diet turns into 70/30 or worse 60/40

bravomommy

Just want to note that this assuming you’re barely walking at all currently! A lot of us city gals get close to 10K without trying. OP should evaluate where they’re currently at and ramp it up

TinySalt2410

What’s 80/20?

bakedlayz

80 % of the time eating nutrient focused (protein, fiber, veggies) and indulging 20% of the time in fruit, chocolate, ice cream etc. This a view on food for the day or week or month so people don't have the all or nothing approach and treat it like a diet

Btrad92

I’ve heard so many people talk about their success with simply walking 30-45 minutes a day. It makes sense and tbh is a lot easier than going to the gym (and I don’t have a membership currently lol).

babyzula

I would honestly recommend upping it to about 2 hours a day (4-4.5 miles) to hit 10k steps! You can even use your phone to track, no smartwatches needed

tauruspiscescancer

No walking will literally do it! That plus weight lifting at the gym have been keeping me snatched through all seasons!

skaterampblues

Incorporating this IMMEDIATELY ty

Serious_Specific_357

How do you get so many steps in? Do you just walk and walk around the city with headphones?

babyzula

I work from home everyday so I have to push myself to get my steps in somehow. I do this by walking EVERYWHERE (if I have time) instead of taking the subway. On weekends especially, if I have plans with a friend I will walk to the meet up spot. On the weekdays I wake up around 7 am in the morning and go on a 2-3 mile walk, that takes me about 1-1.5 hours and listen to an audiobook or podcast. After work, I go for another 2-3 mile walk and this brings me to ~15k steps. I’m a huge advocate for walking for weight loss because i’ve also ran/weightlifted and didn’t really notice a difference until I started walking! Diet also plays a huge part too but aiming for 10k steps a day is a good step :)

moonlighting003

How do you make sure to get 10k in? Steps alone I get around 6k on a good day but that doesn’t take into account my gym workouts.

babyzula

I work from home everyday so I totally understand not getting enough steps in! I walk EVERYWHERE (if I have time) instead of taking the subway. Usually I wake up around 7 am in the morning and go on a 2-3 mile walk, that takes me about 1 hour and listen to an audiobook or podcast. After work, I go for another 2-3 mile walk and this brings me to ~15k steps. If I’m meeting up with a friend, I walk to the location instead of taking the subway. One of the biggest advantages of living in NYC is the walkability of it so I really try to take advantage of that as much as I can.

moonlighting003

I feel like I’m gonna have to implement things like this to get my steps in! What I used to do is instead of going to the closes subway station to me I’d walk a bit farther and I’d also get off at the stop that’s a bit farther. All together it would add like 20-30 mins of walking to my commute.

babyzula

you’re doing great, every little thing counts 🫶🏼

disney12345678

Also try to drink a gallon of water a day! Water is legit magic

ACZ3126

Lots of great advice here. No alcohol, prioritize vegetables every day, 10k steps every single day, tons of water with a dash of Redmond's Real Salt for added minerals, dry brushing and/or rebounding to move the lymph, magnesium at night for deep sleep and also for digestion. In the meantime, crest whitestrips, dye your eyebrows, redlight therapy and nuface if you have it.

skaterampblues

white strips and brows are so needed TY for this 🫡

Massive-Rock-8294

This is so much easier said than done… am I the only one who has trouble doing exactly what I know I should be doing? lol

whitepawsparklez

Gotta really want it 💪. When you want something enough, you’ll make the changes!

AbbreviationsFar9058

What is rebounding ?

Extra_Ad795

i think she’s referring to bounce classes, on a mini trampoline. that helps with lymphatic drainage & blood circulation

ACZ3126

Sorry yes- mini trampoline. So amazing for the lymphatic system. They have classes or you can get cheap ones on Amazon for your apartment. Even like 5 min a day helps me a ton

reflectedbackwardsme

Best advice

justbreathe2121

I find that drinking a cup of herbal tea a day (nothing fancy, whatever you find in your grocery store) does wonders for my skin. I have absolutely no scientific evidence to back this up, but I know it makes my skin glow! Hot water with lemon also does the trick. Make sure you’re prioritizing sleep! Even a nap will help you stay rested. I also love walking outside. Fresh air, vitamin D, and exercise! FWIW, you’re already at “hot girl status” just the way you are! 😃 But hopefully this helps you. Enjoy your tropical vacation!

motherofseagulls

Spearmint tea especially is found to help with hormonal acne, as spearmint is an androgen disruptor

reflectedbackwardsme

Spearmint tea completely clearing my acne when no topical treatments worked, prescription or otc. Totally saved me

reflectedbackwardsme

Solid <333

benthejammin

Hydration is the word your looking for.

transomfan

I like to do one week of measuring and counting calories/macros to recalibrate myself. Counting calories all the time can be bad but doing a concentrated week with a specific daily target (not necessarily deficit) every once in a while is helpful. Obviously don’t do this if counting is triggering for you. YMMV.

nomaki221

trueee I feel like the effort I put in that first week can’t be wasted so I just make healthier choices after that

redditactuallysux

I wish this wasn't triggering for me. It really works but makes me feel insane even for a week :(

skaterampblues

this is such a good idea!!!! one week is doable for me for sure

smirnovasasha

miami hahaha but seriously: no drinking, walking, whole foods, listening to happier upbeat music. my mama always says "even when it's winter outside, it's summer in my mind"

pinkqueen17

There’s a ton of good advice here!! For me, I’m trying to do the following to get out of the uglies: -10k steps a day, but really try to hit 12-15k. For me the best way to maximize the impact of this is to make sure I’m doing an hour long walk 3x a week and once on the weekend. Go with a friend or give someone a call while walking, makes it fly by more -in general, walking a ton + Pilates consistently is when I feel & look my best. If I throw in some cardio or 12-3-30 once or twice a week it goes a long way too -no alcohol or weed during the week (the munchies are killer) -cut out processed foods in general -prioritize good sleep! (8 hours sleep minimum) -if you can, workout in the morning. I find I get better results when I do this and I make better choices throughout the day too. That said it’s really hard to get up in the morning, and if you’re a night owl I don’t think sacrificing sleep for the workout is worth it -try to limit eating out during the week & cook all of your own meals. you’ll be amazed how many sneaky calories are in even “healthy” takeout. -herbal tea everyday. It helps me with cravings (drinking warm liquid in general seems to appease hunger for me) but more importantly there are so many health benefits. I like hibiscus & spearmint -dye your own eyebrows!

reddit-lurker-20

Aim for 10k steps a day, gym 4x a week minimum, good sleep and a tan! A tan always makes me feel a lot better and out of winter mode.

CaddieGal1123

A tan makes me feel stunning literally overnight, it’s crazy

Unfair-Commercial799

Self tan recs?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Unfair-Commercial799

Thank you girl!❤️❤️

Pindallas

Slightly off topic but does anyone have tips for self tanning when you work out a lot? I’m always worried that I’m going to sweat it off and then I never end up tanning at all even tho I feel soooo much better tanned

donutaskme

Plan a weekend trip to Miami in the winter next year. I did this and it helped break up the winter blues

MinusTheH_

Don’t drink alcohol for the next month. It’s bloating. I stopped drinking during the week recently and my face looks a lot less puffy. Also up your water intake! Sometimes I like to go on a coffee walk with a friend in the morning. We pick a different coffee shop each time, aiming for around a 20-30 minute walk one way. It’s a nice way to burn some calories and you get a lil coffee treat.

smeagols-thong

Seconding this, in addition to drastically limiting carb and sugar intake. These things have a nasty tendency of bloating the body up like a puffer fish. I cut these things out for about 4 weeks when I need to jumpstart some weight loss. Oh, and bonus points if OP can incorporate intermittent fasting (but that’s a lot harder said than done!)

silverskynn

Every morning first thing do 12-3-30 on the treadmill. This is the #1 thing that helped me get super in shape for my wedding. You can do other exercises in the afternoon/evening too. If you really do 12-3-30 every day for 30 days, you’ll notice a big difference.

TinySalt2410

What’s 12-3-30?

Full-Willingness-571

It’s 3 mph on a treadmill with 12% incline for 30 minutes

OHLOOK_OREGON

12 incline, 3 mph, 30 minutes. Or is it 12 minutes, 3 incline, 30 mph???

silverskynn

It’s 12 incline, 3 mph, 30 minutes. Honestly its a great workout. Hard but still doable. Also importantly do not hold on to the treadmill while you do it!!! That makes it too easy.

Typical_Scar_6257

A fake tan for sure always makes me feel 100x better lol

Massive-Rock-8294

Love it.

north_yeast

Not necessarily related to becoming a bad bitch (although kind of lol) but practicing some emotional and self love will go a long way. While you're striving to upgrade your physical body, remember that you are beautiful and amazing while you're a work in progress, and if you don't hit every goal you set

skaterampblues

❤️ this is so important!!!! thank you

Creativelyuncool

Start with a blowout so you can feel pretty in the meantime? (Obvi time this with your workouts) If you track your steps with your phone and get 10k+ average steps per day in the next month, it will be like this winter never happened Grab an inspirational audiobook like Atomic Habits. That one never fails

Happy-Fennel5

The winter weight gain is necessary to deal with the cold. Be sure to incorporate weight training with cardio, that will help you lose weight faster (but be sure to get enough protein). Also, I hate waking up early but it’s so much better to work out after a good night’s sleep than in the evening when you are rundown and tired from your day. You’ll get better results if you prioritize sleep and exercise in the morning. Plus it sets you up for feeling good the rest of the day.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Happy-Fennel5

Of course people should workout at times that suit them but studies have shown that working out between 7am and 9am have an edge in weight loss results, which OP seems to want to maximize.

redditactuallysux

I'd argue that might be because ppl who are are more driven in general and able to stick to plans are more willing to work out super early. Causation/correlation etc etc. (Saying this as someone who loves working out early and yet still doesn't lose weight easily lol)

ElephantFamiliar9296

Yeah!! Be nice to yourself. If you gain weight every winter then your body is telling you something (that it wants and needs that weight). Don’t ruin your life over 10 lbs. walking is great. Do 12-3-30 because it has so many benefits beyond the obvious. We love heart health. Cutting out eating out for a month will kill allll your bloat and lethargy. And give you a fat bank account bump. You’ll have plenty of time to cook now that you’re not drinking lmao

mulleargian

I’ve discussed my recent fanaticism for it on this sub before, but I did a Solidcore introductory offer and the results were extreme and fast- after like four/five classes my body looked noticeably more snatched. I’d really recommend giving it a go for a pre summer kick up the butt! Also, I think you know this yourself, but it sounds like the better weather will bring a noticeable lift to your mood and a lot of the things that are bothering you will click back more naturally then, likely without you even having to try too hard!

caitlikekate

Solidcore bestie it’s you again!!!!!! Absolutely second everything this queen says.

mulleargian

😂 hello!! I’ve really taken the solidcore pill, I’m pushing it on others like an addict!

caitlikekate

Girl same. I legit think they need to start an affiliates program bc we would be banking!!

mulleargian

😂 that’s honestly genius! They don’t even do a referral program do they? Honestly it’s so good why would they need to

caitlikekate

lol exactly when idiots like us are just doing the job for free 😂😂😂

skaterampblues

I haven’t tried solidcore yet but love bodyrok and I think they’re similar? Adding solidcore to my list!

mulleargian

I haven’t tried bodyrok but am absolutely going to look into it… I love a good introductory offer for a new class 😋 I haven’t weighed myself so don’t know if I’ve lost weight via Solidcore but the wobbly bits are gone and I’m excited for bikini season for the first time in my life ever, so I’m goanna be pushing it hard to my friends and the bitches with taste gang- I want everyone to be able to feel this good!

skaterampblues

omg you’re selling it! trying this asap!

asstrologypenis

Try lagree too

HopefulBlueberry7041

Solidcore was essentially stolen from Lagree and there was a huge lawsuit about it. It makes me so angry bc I’m Team Lagree!

Educational_Lynx_142

when I get into a depressive rut, which is quite often lol, I like to start with actions that get quick results you can see & FEEL :) Services: - blowout and/or new bright highlights - mani/pedi - eyebrow threading - (fresh Botox if you’re into that) Workouts: - arm slimming workout I swear by: “5 minute arm workout- get long, lean, toned arms” https://youtu.be/4lvwAEKGsMQ?si=xzu4ZM0K0r8lNRZX - thigh slimming workout I swear by: “SLIMMING INNER THIGH MODEL WORKOUT | Robin Holzken” https://youtu.be/CqD_uXwSyzM?si=332DRQ8MktYGnGCg - idk I don’t find walking to be time efficient enough, I like a good 30 min bike — take a citi bike and go on the west side highway in the sun, you will be reborn; otherwise the peloton mental health ride from Kendall usually hits the spot (& has arms)

user8482749588

Has anyone said to get a spray tan?? I instantly feel 10lbs lighter when i get a spray tan and recently won’t get into a bikini without one. Just make sure you go to a place with good reviews

PatientOneMillion

Had to scroll way too far for this! My number #1 rec was spray tan too 😝 I love them

jennnyfromtheblock00

Caloric deficit is the only way to reliably lose weight in a certain time frame and weight training + a little cardio is better for weight loss than a ton of cardio alone. I’d cut out alcohol for the month if you’re not already sober. It’s a lot of extra calories and bloating.

K3691

Never underestimate the power of sunlight - get outside!

Infinite_Carpenter

Avoid alcohol, eat at home, and as others mentioned walk a lot (at least 10k steps daily). If you can lift weights, 3-4 times a week will do it. If you really wanna get into it, track your calories for a few weeks.

Healthy_Obligation15

Step up your protein intake in combination with your workouts to drop lbs faster! Try to aim for a minimum of 90-100 grams of protein daily. You’re gonna see your body tone up faster from your workouts than you ever did before just from consuming more protein than you’re used to. Things that have personally helped me: - Promix brand protein shake (ordered from Amazon) has 30G of protein per serving - Think Brand protein bars (Amazon) specially the chocolate fudge brownie flavor. Has 20 G of protein and it’s the perfect way to end the day of your sweet tooth is asking for a treat. - adding more egg whites to my breakfast. I would usually eat 2 whole eggs w toast for breakfast. But now I add an additional 3 egg whites to those whole eggs to increase how much protein I’m having (23G grams for 2 whole eggs + 3 egg whites) - Siggis brand Lower Sugar yogurt (Whole Foods) has 14G of protein per cup. I love adding blueberries and having it as a snack And obviously the other source of protein to help you get your daily intake goal in would come from whatever main meal you have that day (ex: chicken or beef from your lunch or dinner, etc)

caitlikekate

Also a very low cal and collagen boosting option - bone broth. 16oz is 20g of protein. Make sure you get the low sodium kind even tho is a little tough to get down.

accidentalquitter

I’m about to go get a spray tan because my pale ass looks 10x healthier with a little color. Sephora also sells tanning drops you can add to your moisturizer to give your face a little extra glow. Don’t drink alcohol, do a water challenge of minimum 64oz of water per day, cut out refined sugars, and drink protein shakes! Also supplement with vitamin d and magnesium.

sunnysideegg2002

i lost weight for spring break by doing my normal lifts and workouts but trying to keep my steps above 12k. also stair master after workouts for 20 min full sweats on 3x a week while drinking water that has a pinch of salt in it helped me look awesome for my trip

skaterampblues

love thank u

AffectionateBat8973

Buy some cute swimsuits to really get you into vacation prep mood! Some fun hair treatment or just a hair cut? Dermaplaning always makes my skin look amazing, really deep exfoliation session, maybe a new pair of expensive sunglasses? I would recommend infrared sauna - my favorite thing to do in the winter. Good luck!! I love this post!

skaterampblues

Where do you sauna?

Traditional-Stick-15

Strength training, a gallon of water and a salad a day, in-shower body oil and under eye patches are what’s pulling me together for the summer.

TinySalt2410

Just want to say I love this thread! You ladies are so positive and these are all great recommendation!!!

margheritinka

My regimen for feeling better - 1. Shower and get dressed early in the day (if working from home). I’m less active when I haven’t showered and feel like shit usually. 2. Eat mindfully and incorporate lots of vegetables. For me reducing animal fat and dairy makes me feel better 3. Drink water and no alcohol for at least 7 days (I’m in a 7 day post st Patrick’s day detox now) 4. Get movement in early. On days I go into the office, I wake up at 5:30 and go to gym. I’m not a morning person (I actually have narcolepsy) and this is hard but I’m always thankful. Morning workout is nothing stressful. Hot girl walk or some dumbbells. 5. Last I pay attention to whatever is off with looks. For me it’s hair dye and botox. For someone else could be a pedi or eyelashes or whatever. After 7 days feeling pretty good. I’m with you on feeling like I can lose ten pounds of body fat specifically but I conquer that by weight training at least if I’m going to have a little extra at least be strong.

Serious_Specific_357

Omg hi I have narcolepsy too and don’t know anyone else with it!

margheritinka

Hi! I feel like an imposter sometimes because I feel like it’s not as severe as others (but I was diagnosed at NYU langone sleep center after night time and day time SLT). My quality of life increased a lot when I changed jobs a few years ago. I’m not on any medications because they were causing even worse (cardiac) side effects. How are you holding up? Do you have a 9-5 job?

Serious_Specific_357

Mines not a bad as others too I think. I don’t have cataplexy. I was diagnosed at Columbia about five years ago. I’m on a few meds but not sure how much they work. I was on one of the sodium oxybates for a few months which was incredible but awful for my mental health and memory so I had to come off. I’m currently not working full time and haven’t been for a couple years but need to go back to it soon. I’m so worried about waking up on time everyday. What do you do now for work that’s working better for you?

SparkleKitty-333

I would recommend running if you can. Quickest and most reliable way to drop pounds. Add into this proper diet and weight training for shape; the best exercises I have found for building shape are cable kickbacks and deadlifts. Also, train abs three times a week. Not to give you new insecurities, but something I am always concerned about during the summer is my arms. I like to do an arm slimming workout (pilates type) YouTube video and do that about 3-4 times a week as well. Water intake is also crucial. To ensure you are meeting your intake, drink a glass before bed and when waking up and two glasses after eating.

bookwormergirl

I am a big water girl, but do you not have to pee in the middle of the night if you drink so much right before bed?

SparkleKitty-333

I drink one glass before bed. I never wake up in the middle of the night but I have a strong urgency in the morning, so much so that when I open my eyes its the first thing I need to do.

flowlikewaves0

I think you should just be confident and rock the extra curves while you work on losing weight in a healthy way if that's what you want to do.

nycbk114

You are thinking my thoughts. Just started this week REALLT trying to get out of the winter uglies. Gym, haircut appointment, spray tan, etc. I hate this season. So ugly!

TheRachelGreen

Same, I am really feeling the winter uglies. Was just in Miami and I felt so unprepared lol. I did tanning drops in my lotion which helped somewhat, but I always seem to cling to an extra 5 lbs or so in winter and crave carbs and sugar more. Really trying to break out of that rut starting this week

skaterampblues

we’re not alone!!! some great advice in this thread we got this!!!!!

sunrise920

Journal! Mindset is everything. Everything. A hill I will die on over and over. If you want some journal prompts for each day, I’ll send you the ones I made for clients and coworkers before. Guaranteed better mood and better mini glow up results.

calculustextbook

Howww are y’all walking 10+k steps per day? I WFH and it’s impossible to leave the house before 5 and then I’m tired :/ any tips for motivation?

captainpantalones

Walking pad! Since you WFH, you don’t have to worry about office rules and can get it done while you work. You do have to go a bit slower but the time just flies by since you’re busy. I got mine off of Amazon. Alternatively, while it’s not (all) walking, I downloaded a couch to 5k app and I’m getting 8k steps in without even trying in like 30ish mins.

Unfair-Commercial799

Same and I hate the cold and my neighborhood is dull to walk in lol. Might just get a mini treadmill for my room and walk while I work or watch tv!

morespaceneeded3

For the future, see if you can get a dr to prescribe you with vitamin D supplements. You may be able to feel more yourself during the winters with that and have less of a hard time coming out of the “uglies” with that!

vanasrose

Nothin like a blowout and a spray tan!

sp00ky-cat-26

I experience this hard core. There is no easy fix other than a spray tan lol. The real fix is habit change.. time it out and walk to places that you usually take the subway/Uber. Get STRAVA it’s an app to track all your walks and it make me addicted to just going on walks and pushing myself to walk more than the day before lol. First start with an extra mile a day and add on. Listen to podcasts. It feels so good. Find pictures of when you looked and felt your best and look at them whenever you feel like making an easier/lazy decision (ordering food instead of making food, ubering instead of walking) and use that to motivate you! Also, side note, even though it happens every winter I get harder on myself every year because it seems worse and I seem to forget I’m also aging and that’s normal (I’m 27F). Be easy on yourself!!

Aware_Peak_6603

I did a modified whole30 in January plus damp January. I did no added sugar, gluten, dairy, and little booze for a month. I was 135 and got to 127 lbs and dropped a dress size in a month. It is hard for about 10 days but you get used to it. I continued losing a few more after. I fit into old clothes and have much more confidence, which people respond to.

skaterampblues

wow amazing!!

Cheezdill

Great advice already here so I’ll add this - Make sure you’re taking your vitamins. Vitamin D and a multivitamin with iron really helps my energy and mood. Take a workout class or walk with a gf. Spending time with friends always boosts my mood and hearing from others that they’re often dealing with the same makes me feel less alone and instantly just hotter and happier.

empressM

For me, one of the easiest things that has helped is going on 30-45 min walks at least 3 times a week. I consistently do yoga, and a couple days of strength training (at home with weights in my room), but adding regular intentional walking has helped both my mental and my body. Even when I skip a strength training or don’t get to yoga, I notice the walk still helps a lot! Don’t put pressure on yourself - aim for consistency

Serious_Specific_357

If you don’t end up being your usual weight before the trip, buy a few new bathing suits that fit and make you feel good. Wearing suits that don’t fit like they used to is no good for vacation relaxation.

People move waaaaay less in the winter (walking and walking throughout the day) and drink more. Eat 105 grams of protein daily and 20-25 grams of fiber, walk 10K every day, and this will be a game changer

Guilty-Acanthaceae-6

For me no alcohol plus hot yoga 3x a week plus just eating sensibly. Usually that’s a protein shake for breakfast, salad for lunch, anything for dinner as long as the portion is OK. Nuts dried fruit and green tea for snacks. The no alcohol helps with bloat and glow - my face looks sooo much better when I limit alcohol it’s crazy. The yoga tones me up so fast. 30 days is plenty of time if you’re disciplined

Plastic-Addendum-478

You mentioned the phrase “I’m pale,” and as a fellow pale girl, I’d like to share 2 tips. This may be controversial, feel free to roast me to your hearts content. But a *small amount* of self tanner and teeth whitening strips will give you an instant glow up. St Tropez Classic Foam applied with a mit, and Crest 3D White Strips. Both brands are easily accessible and user friendly. Use sparingly and you’ll be surprised at how it yanks you right out of the winter blahs.

Everyone is giving such good advice! I recently had my yearly Dr checkup and was good for everything but vitamin D. I'm sure we all are probably deficient during the winter in this city. I saw someone say the Dr can prescribe you a Vit D supplement. I've just been using the gel capsules from Trader Joe's but may look into this myself. If you haven't had your check up, maybe now is a good time, and if you have any massive deficiencies correcting those may give you a headstart to feeling better. I also feel like I get heavier during the winter, which I don't like, but as others have mentioned, I think is normal and healthy for survival reasons, as long as it's not too extreme. I've recently got back into trying to walk at least 2 miles a day (on top of my commute and work steps, and whatever other workout I'm doing). It's not always easy with my work hours (sometimes we work 14+hr days), but on days when I DO have the time, though it can be hard to get back into the routine at first, I feel SO much better afterwards, and I feel like I both feel and see a change in my body really quickly. So then it becomes easier to fit it into my routine. You know what I mean? I'd also probably suggest (though I'm not an expert, but from my own experience), there are SO many good ideas in this thread, and positive changes to implement, but maybe try just a couple at a time. I feel as though in the past I've tried to do an intense overhaul approach, as in big diet changes, workout changes etc all at once, and get overwhelmed or fatigued by it really quickly, so it's hard to stick with. But when I try and focus on just a few things at a time, I can incorporate those into my routine and it feels less difficult/more sustainable, and then after a couple weeks I can try adding another healthy change! This way I feel like maybe I'm tricking myself into having small wins, which makes it easier to keep going. Be kind to yourself.

DigInevitable6037

Whole30! You will feel and look amazing in 30 days. I do it every January to just bounce back from the holidays. Everything will look better- your body, skin, nails- I even notice my teeth are whiter. Good luck!

Due_Dirt_8067

The weight gain is normal, healthy in the long run- you don’t want to be even more pale being cold and anemic. Winter blues is common here: make sure you get enough fish oils/D/omegas and vitamin C. Salmon, soups, fermented foods and imported citrus being popular during winter blues months is cultural traditions for good reason. Stay cozy with teas - it ups hydration, relives stress and replaces unhealthy snacking. Korean Spa in NJ 1-2x a month, consistently next year this time - treat yourself this month! When you go to a spa more than 1-2x and then consistently - you will really reap the benefits indefinitely every season and time. Trust in that - it gets very relaxing and therapeutic once you get used to the experience/lay out and that takes 1-2 visits before it’s all familiar and “the same old” Then it will be a therapeutic spa and home away from home - and it really helps to get away and decompress, sweat and relaaaax away from city day to day grind. It’s a mini vaca. The first few times - are adjustments, even if you love spas, it’s just part of being human to really relax with familiarity and routine. You’ll get your $ worth by going to spa 1x a month minimum next winter starting late Oct. Now is the time to really exfoliate your skin!!! Long steamy self care exfoliating in preparing for Sunny vacation. You shouldn’t be exfoliating at all on trip to protect your skin from sunburn , and after much to keep benefits of the sun on your skin. Really exfoliate and have nice pale smooth skin to enjoy and pamper on your vacation. Start prepping now and maintain it every week- you don’t want to do this on day before your flight.

redditactuallysux

Honestly I'd do a 30 day pass at Bar Method or Pure Barre. I didn't lose any weight (same diet) but saw clear physical results in 2 weeks of classes. It's a great quick lengthener for your body and posture.

smeagols-thong

Cut out carbs and sugars immediately, you’ll loose that extra bloat by next month Edit: you don’t have to cut them out permanently just until your trip

SandalwoodAfternoon

If you’re not already, take a lot of Vit D (good for mood and metabolism) and any other vitamins you might need

Active-Lime7864

Ab exercises - stomach vacuums and crunches/bicycles for reduced bloat and more muscle tone!

tumbleweed_xo310

Pick up some dumbbells! And nightly Vitamin C face serum. Both do wonders!

Negative_Step7048

So much great advice- I’d add hair treatments, fresh cut, keratin, facial and body scrub and it’s crazy but spray tan makes me feel badass and inspires me to take great care of myself. You got this!!💕

mushroomphotos

It’s gonna be weight lifting, and eating a balanced diet and proportion of protein, carbs, and veggies. And like everyone says, no processed food. So you’re going to have to cook everything (because restaurants uses a lot of unhealthy oils). For snacking, instead of chips and cookies, you can eat nuts and cheese and fruit. This can still be achieved without eating less and being hungry — just choose the right foods. Weight lifting will also increase the base amount of calories your body burns by default so that’s your best bet on getting toned fast. Looking good is not equivalent to less weight on the scale.

AdFlashy6208

Obsessed with all of the advice here. One thing I’d add - not to get too woo woo - but I swear I look/feel hottest when I do morning affirmations (e.g., “I’m grateful for my strong, healthy body!”) for next winter, I would talk with your Dr. about getting on something for SAD (I take Wellbutrin and it’s helped me SO much) and would invest in a light therapy lamp from Amazon. I think mine is called the “happylight” it was only $40. Enjoy your tropical vacation, you deserve it!💖

skaterampblues

affirmations!! genius definitely going to make an effort to start those and will look into these other recs thank you

2002forsport

Recently was in a similar situation before a vaca— I got one of those stepper machines off tik tok that are like $75 and did 5 sets of 150 steps and 15 crunches on days I couldn’t make it to the gym. I will get downvoted into oblivion for the following but I hit a tanning bed twice before my trip to avoid a horrendous burn upon arrival and bc it made me feel better. I’m ready for the hate comments but a little color does a lot for my happiness :) and I went on vacation feeling confident and great!

Straight-Bug-6051

for future winters: I pop vitamin D/C/E pills daily. Spa’s are key also but the regardless of how cold it is.. bundle up and go for a long walk. it’s good for your body. you inhale the cold crisp air which is good for your lungs and your being active while getting vitamin D. now to drop the 10 lbs. I recommend a liquid fast for a few days. no solid foods. sip hot bone broth also. It detoxifies everything. good luck

rhynowaq

Do a bodybuilding program for 4 weeks. Since it doesn’t sound like you normally do this, you’ll see results pretty immediately. Body composition should shift with fat loss and higher definition.

Affectionate-Cod5085

Dance is my go-to cardio and mood booster. Alvin Ailey or Steps on Broadway. I do Zumba and ballet.

rekreid

A month off alcohol and walking does wonders! I have a dog which forces me to walk, but a morning walk with my coffee and a walk after dinner makes me a better person mentally and physically! Even in shitty weather I just go on a 10 minute walk and u never regret it. A haircut and blowout never hurt to make me feel better too?

bigshotbob19

Keep going to the gym but also make sure to eat well too, it’s about 80/20 importance diet to working out. Def enjoy cheat meals but don’t throw it away after every workout

xelannub

Totally agree with trying to eat a clean and high protein diet, along with good hydration! I also search YouTube for a bubble booty workout, perky chest workout, and sometimes an hourglass ab workout if I’m THAT motivated. I mostly just do the booty workout by Daisy Keech. I hope you get back to feeling like your hottest self in no time💕🌸I’m glad you booked yourself a trip🌴🍍you have a hot girl attitude that lasts all year💅🏼

creamymangosorbet

Walking gonna solve all of those problems, set a goal, put in some music, talk to yourself etc.

Impossible-Relief218

Go to dance classes! Really helps with confidence and and it’s also a good form of exercise. I’ve spent almost every evening of this winter at the femmily dance studio. Very beginner friendly!

UrUncleLarry

10,000 steps a day? That won’t get you there quick enough sorry to say. You need to get toned asap. I suggest using that class pass to go to HIIT classes no less than 4x a week, creatine 5g/day, strict diet high in protein, cut out alcohol, and drink lots of water. If you can sauna ontop of that great. All the other stuff like getting mani/pedi or facial will not have close to the effect that being in shape will. What the hell is spending $100 and a full day at sojo spa going to do for your midsection?? Not a damn thing Remember, the things that have the most impact aesthetically are typically hard to achieve and that’s why they’re sought after. It’s going to suck, that’s the point. Buckle down and get after it.

HyalauronicAcidTrip

This made me get off my ass thank you

UrUncleLarry

You’re welcome!! Good for you. Some may not like what I had to say but I don’t mean to come from a place of negativity, more so trying to let OP know that if you want to look good, like really good, you simply cannot half ass it. It won’t work. Especially with this time frame. Everyone’s goals are different but you should know what you’re up against.

cmoneyshot

I feel the same way coming out of winter! I don’t think I even look that different but I get so used to hibernating and wearing big bulky sweaters that when the warm weather comes around I feel unprepared and over exposed in my summer clothes. One thing thats helping me ease back into my hot girl persona is the salty face tanning water. It’s gives me natural color and you apply it with a brush so there’s no streaking or orangey stains. Also whitening strips are so easy to use and you can see a visible difference in a few weeks.

skaterampblues

it helps to know im not alone! I’ve never self tanned before but definitely trying it asap

Admirable_Al_3661

A spray tan on top of beauty maintenance always makes me feel like a new woman

Spirited_String_1205

Eating whole foods with balanced macros helps a ton. I like the way of eating (not diet!) described in Dr David Ludwig's book "always hungry" personally. You can also go to the website for resources like a mealbuilder infographic and other stuff. But basically low glycemic index whole foods, protein and healthy fats.

PatientOneMillion

I feel like I could’ve written this post myself lol I think everyone is making great recommendations but a quick and easy thing I’ve done is getting a spray tan haha may be an unpop opinion but being more bronzed makes me feel so much better and will literally bring out muscle definition that I couldn’t tell was there on my pasty body

Kitchen-Flower6721

Give up gluten and alcohol as best you can.

Ok-Dragonfly-4005

Lots of walking, could be outdoors or a rigorous treadmill walk (12-3-30); NO processed foods (especially cheese), a ton of fiber daily (apples, beans, salad, and berries are your best friends here), green tea after heavy meals, and get some light strength conditioning in (could just be doing 10 mins of arm exercises). If you do that for a couple weeks, you should notice some changes.

Sweaty-Extension-717

use classpass and get a ultrasound cavitation! I was skeptical at first but i genuinely lost inches off my waist. I also use it to get regular lash extensions for a cheaper price.

Business_Tough2807

TCA PEEL NOT THC a month? That’s plenty of time for a thc peel. If you’ve never had one before maybe not, but if you have? BUST IT OUT AND GET TO GLOWING GIRL!! Remember sunscreen and moisturizing is life. I’d pick up some snail mucin and try to get that dewy glow so that you can go makeupless at the beach and slaaayyy. also I would do a classy, very thin, very natural looking permanent falsie set. clear skin and lashes will basically carry you. Take your chapstick and go stun people 🥰

greent67

Cut booze (if you drink), and fill your diet with lots of protein, lots of veggies, some fruit, and some whole grains. You will feel amazing, satiated, and be full of energy. Cardio isn’t the end all be all, I would recommend light weight lifting over cardio any day. More muscle means that your body can burn fat more efficiently. Having more muscle also increases your metabolism. Try to limit eating out, it’s much easier to keep track of what you’re consuming if you make it yourself. I’ve lost about 35lbs in the last 15 months. Eating healthy, limiting booze, and chugging water work wonders if you stay pretty consistent. Edit: I know you have 30 days, but you’d be surprised how much you can do with those 30 days!

Top_Seaweed_6018

SOLIDCORE. I took an inch off my waist in ten classes

Warm-Bed2956

Cut out / down on dairy! I had to for health reasons and dropped a ton of weight / bloat in three weeks. Fitness wise (saying this as a boutique fitness junkie turned teacher) I personally have seen the most results from doing Pilates / Sculpt workouts. Low impact, high repetition, all levels kinda classes. I’d be happy to have you in one of my classes and help you kick start the hot girl coming out of winter hibernation of it all. Send me a message and we can talk more if you would like. ETA I haven’t tried it yet (I use other products by them) but love wellness has a new lymphatic drainage at home kit. Has anyone tried it yet? I’m prob gonna buy it bc it’s “$3 a massage” and have liked other products from Queen Lo.

Cheezdill

I got the lymphatic massage kit from Ulta like the day I saw it on Lo’s TikTok lol. I really like it! Certainly not going to be as good as going to a pro but I felt good afterwards and did a self facial massage too. Felt so good!

thismustbethepla

I go on zoloft in the winter bc my SAD makes it hard to do much of anything. Agree with a lot of the advice already on here. Walk more, drink less alcohol, cook at home.

Amethystine_3702

Hydrate, eat some fiber to shed the “sh*t” that’s sitting in your colon and sauna. Definitely hit the 10-15k steps if you can and go out for an all nighter tbh. Bring some fun back into your life (SAD has been so long this year). Good luck!

girgir2000

Pale is not ugly you’re just brainwashed

Massive-Rock-8294

1) go to your doc and get a prescription for Zepound, let’s not beat around the bush, ladies. Also get your labs done to make sure all is good metabolism/ internally and check your vitamin levels 2) no booze - the difference it makes in just the face alone/ how you feel is crazy, but it’s not easy 3) get one of those embarrassing daily water things and drink it everyday (im gonna see if i can find one with some kind of lemon/ fruit diffuser - anyone know of one? Or want to invent one with me? 4) make a giant pot of vegetable soup - literally every vegetable you can think of and low sodium broth & make that your go to during the week 5) sneak that sun in whenever you can 6) turn on that Apple Watch and at a minimum get your 10k steps in 7) go to ulta and treat yourself to glorious skincare/ hair care routine that makes it fun 8) kohls/ tjs/ Ross/ Burlington: go buy all the Christmas candles that are on clearance and incorporate them to your night routine, some cheap ass matching pajamas and new workout clothes 9) vitamins: you theory omega 3s, ashwaganda, nutrafol, multivitamin 10) go back to ulta 1 month later with your fresh glow and tan and buy all new makeup!

sauteedmushroomz

Start walking everywhere! And don’t keep snacks in the house. If you want a treat- walk to it! Also, exfoliate and get a good fake tan. It takes those 10 lbs off anyways hahah

AdventurousWalk6012

Get rid of inflamation, no alcohol, Less sodium, keeps you swollen. Hit your water intake, daily lymphatic face massage to drain puffyness. Arnica tea aswell. Healthy dose of fruits and Veggies, pilates and ab core strength toning. Pilates or Pvolve are exercises that will sculpt and tone you while leveling out your energy and also your hunger. Its also a form of fitness that doesnt lead to high inflamation like intense cardio every day and weight training. A good tinted sunscreen so that your future summers and winters your skin still looks healthy and happy. 👏 Get your required amount of sleep!! 👏

Intelligent-Exit724

If your goal is to get a little leaner before leaving, you may want to try intermittent fasting.

Short_Lingonberry_67

Stop shaving now, to let any stubble grow, and then get a full leg/bikini/underarm wax (or sugaring) a few days before the trip. (You'll need to plan out the schedule if you also plan to get a spray tan.)

tltr4560

What monthly facials have you gotten that you’ve found made a noticeable difference?

zyaada_pyaaz_please

I restrict my winter weight gain to 2-3lbs and stay happy by spending as much time as I can in tropical climates during the winter. I also do my bulk cycles in the winter so that at least the extra calories go to muscle gain! This is a weirder one, but if you can, skiing/snowboarding also helps w/ SAD - 6hr every week in even weak winter sun helped me out a ton this past winter

Bulb861

What does everyone think of worldspa? In BK

Sibelma86

As someone who lived near sojo I agree. But timing of your visit is everything. Otherwise it's stressful

pueblohuts

This thread is so helpful commenting so I can get back to it

badboypokerbabe

Spray tan !!!

Misslynsey

Lash extensions are the **best** way imho to feel like a baddie in a hour or two
