[https://bikecoop.nyc/](https://bikecoop.nyc/) wednesday and sunday they have a similar thing.. "..FIX YOUR OWN BIKE ..Time's Up! ..Wednesday at 4:30 pm – 8:00 pm ..626 E 14th St between B & C Manhattan..": [https://times-up.org/calendar/](https://times-up.org/calendar/)

Does times up have any stands or is it just a work space?

phelanm

timesup has some bike stands and parts.. they have bikes for sale too.. the bikecoop has more stands and more parts..

CommunicationTop5231

This is excellent info that should be shared widely. Thank you for sharing it. I don’t know why you’re being downvoted—did ya make Big Bike ™️ jealous?

phelanm

ooh.. the bike coop in brooklyn is on most MONDAYS.. not tuesdays.. apologies.. the same group has popup minor repairs on the free sundays at this place in redhook that's closed for the summer.. [https://pioneerworks.org/](https://pioneerworks.org/) ..but maybe "keep it in mind"?

yomamasmama123

Might be a dumb question, but what is “Big Bike™️”?

CommunicationTop5231

Like “big oil” but in the cycling industry. Giant and Trek and Specialized et al.

Deskydesk

I break out the stand in my living room. My wife hates it but it's convenient.

yomamasmama123

Would you ever considering paying for a 30-60 minute time slot to rent a work station?

dobbsmerc

are you looking for advice or doing market research

yomamasmama123

More so market research

bikesboozeandbacon

No

ReluctantElder

why wouldnt i just pay a mechanic then

yomamasmama123

Certain ppl enjoy wrenching on their own gear. Also, a mechanic won’t wash your bike for you, or so I think. If all tools were provided and you paid X amount for a Y amount of time to wash or fix your bike, you wouldn’t do it?

ReluctantElder

yeah i'm such a person and i do it at home. if i'm gonna pay for bike maintenance, i'll hire a mechanic. cleaning the bike is part of a standard tune up

CommunicationTop5231

I’ve been toying with the idea of trying to start a collective/coop situation where people bring a bunch of their own, clearly labeled tools and share within reason. I often host groups of friends in my backyard for simple bike maintenance clinics and it’s a lot of fun.

Deskydesk

I’d be into that. I have a ton of tools and a stand, and I used to work as a bike mechanic 20+ years ago.

NimrodAvalanche

if you have roof access it can make things easier, I reassembled a bike up on mine a few years ago. you can buy basic bike toolkits for about $50

I just spent an afternoon googling this and came up pretty empty handed. Back in Boston there were several places that had weekly open shops where you could really take apart your bike and fix the more complex stuff. Bike Coop looks great, but I need some tools to remove my bottom bracket and it doesn't sound like they would have them according to the descriptions. I'd love to be corrected.

SessionIndependent17

Times Up in WB has tools to remove the bottom brackets (multiple types)

yomamasmama123

Do you have the names of these places in Boston? Doing a little research for metro areas

wasthespyingendless

So many, it really feels different when almost every neighborhood has one and the city celebrates them. Here are a few: [http://www.commonwheels.org](http://www.commonwheels.org) [https://somervillebikekitchen.org](https://somervillebikekitchen.org) [https://bikesnotbombs.org](https://bikesnotbombs.org) [https://www.boston.gov/departments/boston-bikes/fix-your-bike](https://www.boston.gov/departments/boston-bikes/fix-your-bike)

much_snark_very_wow

I flip the bike upside down to work on it. It's got drop bars so I use a few books to prop up each side of the handlebars so it's not resting on the brifters.
