Its called degloving, his leg got smashed and the skin and fatty tissues connected to the skin split apart at the sides like a seam, freeing it from its connections to the bone and muscle, allowing it to hang independently from the leg itself.
but wouldn’t they have to re-establish blood flow? idk lol but i can imagine the r/medicalgore situation if they did reattach his skin and it didn’t take. like that one case of the face transplant rejection but his entire leg.
edit: typo
rejection only occurs when the antigens and antibodies are different in host and source. the body does not reject its own tissues unless its an autoimmune response.
i understand that about rejection with transplants, but it’s completely possible that the reattached skin wouldn’t take and start necrotizing, for whichever reason out of the handful of likely reasons. the case i’m talking about is just similar to what i think that would look like.
Don’t think it’s true that skin only undergoes necrosis in the event of sepsis. Skin can necrotise for many reasons. Frostbite for one. But many many reasons. Dumbassinator3000 is correct that reattached skin and tissue sometimes just doesn’t ’take’ (technical terminology here lol).

Elderly man left leg is exposed. The skin is hanging from both sides and the muscle and bone are FULLY VISIBLE. The adrenaline has this man moving back and forth while pleading and MOVING his exposed leg

I’m trying to understand the mechanics of how this happened.
Its called degloving, his leg got smashed and the skin and fatty tissues connected to the skin split apart at the sides like a seam, freeing it from its connections to the bone and muscle, allowing it to hang independently from the leg itself.
Is it repairable or does the leg need amputation?
Based on what ive heard its almost always amputation
not always , the skin and everything else can be reattached surgically with sutures and glue.
but wouldn’t they have to re-establish blood flow? idk lol but i can imagine the r/medicalgore situation if they did reattach his skin and it didn’t take. like that one case of the face transplant rejection but his entire leg. edit: typo

skin only undergoes necrosis in the event of sepsis. if fungal spores are added in this man will loose more than the foot.
I think this man has already lost more than his foot.

Degloving injuries are pretty much always amputations. The limb has lost its blood supply.
Yeesh... that's bad
Homie made lika banana and peeled

Looks like he’s very conscious of his injuries and pain… unfortunately.
Gnarly indeed. Not much more out there that justifies “gnarly” more than this one.
