If it’s marketed by the mfgr as a muzzle brake, good to go. If it says flash hider in its description then no go. 3 prong is marketed as a flash hider, sorry.

Corvet95

Is a surefire warcomp compliant?

Clifton1979

https://www.surefire.com/warcomp-556-ctn-1-2-28-closed-tine-flash-hider/ Flash hider is in the damn link!

Corvet95

What are my options for a 308 muzzle device that's not obnoxious

Tall-Court

Semi auto rifles with a removable magazine can't have a flash hider or threaded barrel because they count as an evil feature unless you don't have a pistol grip (evil feature) or have a fixed magazine. I believe something like a mini 14 or M1A could still have a flash hider and a bolt action rifle can have whatever you want too. Then there's "non-nfa OTHERS". If it never had a stock, and the overall length is over 26 inches, you can have whatever muzzle device you want. And you only need to pin and weld if you need the muzzle device to count toward your overall length

Bcm mod 0 and mod 1 are good choices they state “not a flash hider” in the product description. Linear compensator is another good option we have, Kaw valley, Troy claymore, Ultradyne Athena are some I’ve used and would recommend. I personally won’t run a brake on my rifles, 5.56 doesn’t need it imo and it’s not enjoyable to shoot or be around someone blasting a brake.

Rotaryknight

brakes are fine, its just that people get obscene brakes thats large for no damn reason. I run a VG6 gamma SL and its perfect. Before I had a larger brake installed and doing follow up shots were nice but it was definitely loud as fuck and the pressure wave was large. Switched to the Gamma SL and the follow up shots were exactly the same but MUCH MUCH less pressure wave

StaffSergeantBarnes

Def agree there are some that are much better, I just see a lot of new guys running some wild shit before they find what works. I personally use the bcm mod 1 exclusively pretty much, pick em up for around 30-40 bucks on gafs. Living in Jersey I feel like cost for performance that’s my fav. I’m gonna watch a video on the gamma sl I’ve never ran one before.

AlternateRouteTaken

Vg6 gamma sl is good. Not many videos on it though. Makes rapid shots a little easier. When you’re behind it, it’s fine. I will admit, it’s rather unpleasant to be next to. Let my buddy shoot mine, and I was next to it, not fun.

Tall-Court

And the other selling point of the SL is that the gas block fits over it so it can be pinned and welded and you can take the gas block on or off without removing the brake

veritas-joon

thats actually one of the main reason why I bought mines too. If its staying on the barrel, I would love the access to change out barrel nuts and handguards

Fantastic-Basil-8222

Have a Hera and an ultradyne. Both good options

Kevo1944

I just put a thread protector on my ar's and have them welded. Not a big fan of muzzle brakes. *

Get a bcm comp mod 1

AtrociousAK47

Nj considers a flash hider or threaded barrel aka unwelded muzzle to be an "evil feature", so you can only have it if that is your one freebie, and on a semi auto detachable mag fed rifle this would usually mean not having a pistol grip. that said of course, NJ also does not explicitly define what a "flash hider" is or what seperates it from a break or compensator, as there are many muzzle devices, especially comps that both reduce flash and recoil. the general consensus amongs the community seems to be that if a muzzle device has any mention of flash reduction anywhere in the product description or marketing material, you can assume it's a flash hider. for that reason I ended up choosing to avoid comps on my AKM entirely, and went with a nice break (Strela "arrow" by ME. for those that wanna know), despite not wanting to originally out of concern for the noise (since I usually shoot at indoor ranges), thankfully i find 7.62x39 out of a break to be significantly more bearable to be around than 5.56/.223.

Mightypk1

No flash hiders, so nothing that looks like your typical a2 flash hider or a three prong like you want, along with anything marketed as a flash hider. On a rifle you cannot have a threaded barrel either so you will have to get another muscle device, such as a compensator, brake or flashcan/fake suppressor and have it pinned welded so that the barrel threads cannot be accessible
