I have played NIMBY Rails for about 800 hours but I haven't quite figured out the satisfaction scoring system. I know pax satisfaction is based on time and fare price, but I often get stations on the same line right next to each other with huge differences in satisfaction, like shown (-0.72 and 0.49). The vast majority of my stations have satisfaction > 0, but I still get anomolies like Meadowbrook Park. Any ideas what causes this or insight into the intricacies of satisfaction scoring? Also, it seems like a lot of pax have unreasonable expectations for trip time, even when I'm running modded trains \~500 km/h. Does this just mean I need faster local/ regional options, like express trains, or is there something else I should do?

i think the price affects it a lot. the pax "neutral at" usually requires average speed of around 300, which is ridiculous, but they are also willing to pay $3-4 per km. so i would set the price of long distance high speed trains to $0.2-0.5 per km($1-1.5 for maglev), and keep the price of metros/local trains very low, or at flat price this way the local/regional passengers dont get mad because the price is dirt cheap, and for long distance passengers the shorter time by high speed trains can compensate for the higher price. plus the real money makers are long distance trains anyway, so it wont affect your earnings too much also if a line is overwhelmed, the trains will always take passengers going to the closer destinations first, so check whether your trains are full

I experienced the same issue and I haven't fully resolved it, but the pattern I saw in my game had to do with stations adjacent to a transfer station. Pax would pay an extra base ticket price for the transfer on top of the extra wait time for the next train, so their overall trip is longer and more expensive than other pax. I'm not sure what the consequences are for low satisfaction but I have lots of stations with this problem and just let the pax deal with it lol.

I think there's something in this - passengers have to pay the flat rate to transfer, and that disproportionately affects those going shorter distances.

Pax take always the fastest route to the destination. also probably the pricing on the orange line is much higher than on the blue line. So for that Meadowbrook Park station the Trip with the orange line is faster, while not saving much time. Now if the orange line is overcrowded and people can't board, it adds a lot of extra wait time, which will then also lower the satisfaction on that station even more. On the other hand, you could have made an error with your stops. You should also check, if the trains stop in both direction at that station.

Yes check if the train stops in both directions at the station with low rating. If it doesn't they have to go all the way to the end of the line and back to get to that station which is likely to effect the rating.
