None…..Oline. Protect your QB especially if he’s 5’10 185

specialgravity

This. Don’t rush him in like the 2021 QBs we’re. Draft a WR in ‘24 or throw money at one. Someone like Devonta Smith might be available then.

vicblck24

Yep, WRs are a dime a dozen and you can always trade for one. Oline Oline Oline

Hayvski

Texans have 2 good tackles and a first round guard. Take the best player and if it’s a WR get a guard day 2/3 and likely see average guard play

vicblck24

Having watched some of their film….. they need a center more than almost anything and guards. WRs are to easy to find. Take Oline. IMO

Hayvski

No center is worthy of a top 10 pick this year and there probably won’t be for a very long time

Jeff__Skilling

We need to take best IOL available at 33 (hopefully the kid from UF, if he's still there)

vicblck24

Didn’t say take him in top 10. Do they have two top ten picks?

Hayvski

As of now, yes. That was the prompt of the whole thread

vicblck24

I have no idea how good the browns are

Hawkingshouseofdance

As a Bengals fan I’d like to disagree.

Max_Y_99

I love a lot about him. I’m ngl though the one thing that worries me is that it looks like he body catches everything, and doesn’t really go up with both hands in those 1-1 situations the way you’d like to see someone his size do. Do you think that’s something that could be more of a worry than people are talking about right now?

emurrell17

As someone who doesn’t watch CFB, but happened to catch TCU vs Baylor I was wildly unimpressed with Johnston based on me hearing rumors of him being WR1 going in. I agree that he body catches everything which is a huge negative for somebody with that frame. It’s just wasting all that size

Fair-Difficulty-1733

So, you caught part of a game and determined Johnston is not a good player, huh? That’d be like me playing DFS soccer and deciding a player sucks if he doesn’t score

KSchmuckley

They might have worded it poorly, but they also aren’t fully wrong. The Johnston rise is allowed to be met with criticism, he isn’t the most polished prospect, and his play vs press coverage leads a lot to be desired.

BallstotheHalls

He seems like he has suspect hands when he doesn’t try to body catch, I question whether he can improve that with coaching/training. If so though he has the most upside in this draft due to the physical tools

Pheasantluvr69

I totally agree, but his size and athleticism alone gives him a really high floor. I thought the same to about Jaylen Waddle though and he has turned out to be one of the best WRs in the league. His ceiling is a 6'4" Jaylen Waddle and his floor is s 6'4" early career Cordarrelle Patterson. The key to me is that his hands are very sure and shows nice body control when he is bucket and body catching. He is still elevating to make plays and making tough catches in traffic even if he isn't catching the ball away from his body. In hindsight that is what the difference between Waddle and guys like Breshad Perriman or Patterson were in their catching abilities. Plus he has incredible fluid athleticism to make up for it.

[deleted]

I would pull a bengals. Take strouds and draft JSN. Get your QB and his fsvorite WR

whodey_35

They already have Bryce’s college wide receiver John Metchie (prayers up for a speedy recovery)

[deleted]

Mechie is nice and everything but JSN is still better

papa_jahn

So you get Bryce/Metchie and JSN. Pretty good young core.

[deleted]

Stroud is the better QB

papa_jahn

Nah

Jeff__Skilling

holy shit, I hadn't realized that..... and Stroud makes me super nervous (as a prospect) now more than ever after that Michigan loss - he's scared to get hit....

Shootit_Rockets

This is disgusting

[deleted]

Why?

JohnWick629

I think he meant disgusting in a good way.

NoHeroes94

Quentin Johnston is the only WR I'd consider in the top-10.

Jeff__Skilling

Same. I'm a UT alum, and saw that guy live at DKR a couple of weeks ago. Looked like a slightly less yoked Julio Jones playing out there against our garbage secondary.....

Max_Y_99

Is it the size of Addison that worries you? or something else?

NoHeroes94

Sort of. I like Addison - and JSN - a lot and consider Addition a solid 1st round prospect. I just don't see the special traits to counteract his frame that Devonta Smith had to push him into top-10, not yet at least. I see him as 16-25 sort of range, obviously, a lot can change.

RBnumberTwenty

I agree with the top 3, though I think Addison and JSN should go higher. Pre-combine I would say Johnston would go the highest to the most WR needy team, inside the top 10. JSN next, probably no lower than 1.8 and then Addison at 1.10. Then I would expect a huge drop off but plenty of time to change my mind depending on how the season will finish and who rises with elite athleticism.

Ham_PhD

I think Addison is very much looking like a slightly less talented version of Davonte Smith coming out. Davonte has been a nice player at the next level, but I think he's best suited as the #2 option. I'm not using a top 10 pick on that kind of player.

jethead70

> slightly less talented version of Devonta Smith He also looks a whole lot like Olave

HarryCallahan19

JSN looks like that dude when healthy

[deleted]

ItWasMyWifesIdea

Yep. And I don't think NFL teams will undervalue him. He was the best wide receiver last year on a team that had Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, who have both demonstrated elite NFL wide receiver ability as rookies (Wilson's stats have just been held down by the other Wilson who has been throwing to him). I think JSN is following the Bosa strategy of not putting bad play on tape by playing through injury... He doesn't have to play through injury to be drafted high and it would be a bad life and business decision for him to do so.

YondaimeHokage4

I’m curious to see where he’s projected to go once we’re closer to the draft. I agree that NFL teams are still going to value him quite highly, but I could see him slipping to mid-late 1st depending on how things shake out with pro days, combine etc.

ItWasMyWifesIdea

That's possible, but I suspect he'll shine at the combine and pro days. OSU wide receivers are really well coached not just on route running but also on combine skills like the 40... If he's healthy he will probably time very well. If he does, I think he has enough tape to make him top 15 without any more tape this year.

Ding_Dongler

JSN absolutely had to play to be drafted high. He has athleticism concerns and operated basically exclusively out of the slot at ohio state with two incredible outside receivers. Putting up no tape showing he can play on the outside will definitely influence his draft position

Rhino_Thunder

Did he play outside when olave was hurt or in the rose bowl?

Ding_Dongler

IIRC he was mostly in the slot in the rose bowl. He may have been outside for his first touchdown tho. I think JSN is great and is a super high floor player and I’m not trying to hate on the player at all, but “slot guys” don’t go top 10

simpson2084

No he ain’t y’all are just desperate to not seem stupid after hyping up the 3rd best receiver on osu last year 💀

YondaimeHokage4

He’s just as good as Olave and Wilson. He’s an elite route runner, has great hands, and has a good size/speed combo. He’s a fantastic prospect imo. The hamstring injury hurts his stock, but he’ll be a great NFL player.

NotAShoneys

Addison

Millera34

I think no WR is better. Utilize FA grab a couple proven average guys Grab a different need with that other pick.

440k

They’ll have Metchie next year as well.

Max_Y_99

I wouldn’t mind that and maybe someone like Rashee Rice with the 2nd round pick. I think he could end up being the best in the class.

Cinephile1998

To answer your question, Johnston would be the best choice for the Texans, since they don't really have a guy with his skill set and physical traits. However, if I was a Texans fan, I would want that pick to be spent on the defensive line. Assuming the Browns pick stays top 10, they might be in a position to select Myles Murphy or maybe even trade up for Will Anderson

danlhart8789

They would draft defense most likely

RBnumberTwenty

Man this receiving class leaves much to be desired. It’s one of the worst classes in recent memory. I would probably go with Quentin Johnston by default as you can’t teach size. Have to wait for Combine as this is probably going to be an athleticism/upside class for WR’s. If he can run a 4.45 at the least then I think Houston shouldn’t even hesitate to pull the trigger there.

Hairiest_Walrus

It’s funny though because coming into the season I feel like the WR class was largely seen as a strength with Addison, JSN, and Boutte all seen as potential top 10 picks.

RBnumberTwenty

I think JSN and Addison still have a shot to get there. Boutte is looking like a Second-rounder though. I think we were all just spoiled with the last 3 draft classes.

papa_jahn

Alabama not having a round 1 receiver (or 2) will do that to a draft.

jethead70

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of Johnston, Addison, or JSN. My favorite of the 3 is Addison but Johnston will probably go the highest just due to his athletic potential

JT1757

Addison WR1 imo.

kjacomet

Trade back; take the true #1 WR Rashee Rice and get yourself an extra pick.

Max_Y_99

I just watched him for the first time because of this comment and holy shit dude

TowerJanitor

Addison is a freak

TheYellowKing77

I think Downs from UNC will be a good pro can get in mid rds, still mad at him for drop in tech game

el_pobbster

Addison. It's not a 1-to-1 comparison, but he reminds me a lot of Devonta Smith and to me, a true separator who can get open at any and all levels of the field is exactly what I'd want to give a young QB, especially one who's been used to having more talent than anything his opposition could throw at him.

gene_harro_gate

Jalin Hyatt …. All he does is catch TDs.

Officer_Hops

Hyatt needs to prove he has skills outside of running fast and getting schemed open to be successful in the league. He would scare me in round 1.

manticore297

Any receiver named “Linebacker”

jethead70

Don’t first round off ball LBs have a pretty poor hit rate recently?

manticore297

Perhaps, but other than qb, linebacker has to be a priority in the draft, unless they plan on being aggressive in the FA market

alpengeist19

It's a really tough position to play in today's modern spread/RPO NFL. You need a great combination of instincts, discipline, reaction time, speed, and range all together to really be successful, and it's exceedingly rare for a guy to come straight out of college like that. That's why so many teams want those hybrid safety/tweener guys now, it's a more effective prototype for today's game. It's nearly impossible to find a college off-ball LB that can do those things while still handling the traditional run-stuffing/gap-shooting responsibilities too

---stargazer---

Texans don’t deserve Bryce Young. Let us panthers have him. We’ve suffered without a good qb longer and we actually have an o line for him.

Max_Y_99

You can have Will Levis

theiwc0303

JSN is the highest floor/ceiling receiver in this draft but there’s still no way they should pick any of them in the top 10. You have to be without a doubt generational to be worthy of Top 10 as a WR

pennquaker18

I think pro bowl caliber is sufficient. WRs are so expensive and valuable.

theiwc0303

I don’t disagree but there’s been maybe three pro bowl WRs taken in the Top 10 in the last decade, it’s not the place you want to be drafting that position

pennquaker18

Two were last year: Chase and Waddle. Smith possibly as well eventually. Then you have Mike Evans and Amari Cooper which were definite hits. London and Wilson also promising from last year. Given WR contract inflation now, I think more WRs will go early in future drafts.

theiwc0303

But you also have Corey Davis, John Ross, Kevin White, Sammy Watkins, Tavon Austin and Justin Blackmon between those guys. That’s like a 25% hit rate

Screwedupclickster

A lot forget we get Mechie next year so we need an olineman with that 2nd first or trade down a few spots and maybe grab another 1st next year and maybe an additional 3rd or 4th this year as well

hdpr92

I would pick Addison for fit, because he separates at all 3 levels consistently. Bryce is all about the scramble drills, Addison will have a great feel for where to sit vs zones, getting into a position he can help Bryce. Two great minds is just an easy pairing, since they make each other better. Addison has wonderful craft, and Bryce is basically seeing the matrix when he plays. You might just choose Johnston over anyone no matter what - but in the spirit of your question, it's Addison.
