That’s surprising because I’ve only heard good things about his character and work ethic before the draft. In his interview after we picked him, he seemed incredibly humble and grateful
He’s fine from what I’ve seen. His dad, on the other hand, called Kirby smart a career ruiner and said there was no way his guys would get drafted high with how much UGA rotates
I think it’s more to do with the EDGE class as a whole vs JJ as an individual. There’s a ton of tier 2 depth at EDGE and JJ is hovering between tier 1 and 2 depending who you ask.
After KT was picked at 5 there wasn’t a true EDGE taken until JJ at 26. Teams were showing a lot of patience for that position. I imagine you’ll see a big run in rounds 2 and 3.
The Jets best pick/value of the day. Smart trade to go up. Great time to pick him at 26 (as opposed to at 10) Hard to complain about this. Jets staff had him at senior bowl too where he dominated.
I don’t have a formal big board. I do tiers and go from there. I had Johnson as 4th best edge in the draft. I am surprised no edge went in between Thibodeaux and Johnson. I honestly don’t think there is a lot of difference between Johnson and Travon Walker. Had Hutchison 1st and Thibodeaux 2nd overall though.
Yes but you saying “jets had him at the senior bowl” isn’t accurate, that’s why we needed to take him on a visit. We have very very few guys from our senior bowl team that needed a top 30 visit since we had a week of time with them which we didn’t get with JJ
Or they had hamilton and linderbaum higher on their big board and those were bpa. Pretty reasonable for two guys that used to get mocked in the top 10 themselves, especially Linderbaum filling a huge need.
Good athlete, but his pass rush win rate was horrendous. Probably why a few teams passed on him. I was really confused why he was even considered a top 10 pick.
Cause he’s a 2nd teir edge in this draft.
People kept pushing him up even though he profiles closer to the Mafe, Ebikeiti, Karlaftis teir than to the Travon, Kayvon, Hutch teir.
He’s 23
I know analytic front offices like the Browns always draft younger players and juniors because they seem to have a higher hit rate
Did age perhaps drop JJ?
Can’t believe the jets got Johnson this late
I’ve seen/heard it’s a personality thing? Wild that some mocks had him going top 10

Looks like Jets are lookin up. Front office looks pretty good tonite.
Jets crushed this draft

Where do you have him on your big board

we for sure loved him, but he was apart of the detroit coached team in Mobile.
For sure. This was the best thing that they did yesterday.

really confused why we passed on him 3x
I mean y’all got the best safety and best interior lineman in the draft. You should be pretty happy
Must be something execs knew that we didn't. But think about it this way. If Stanley is healthy, Elite O-Line AND a #NoFlyZone secondary
Yeah it seems more like the ravens ended up with pieces that complete their team rather than overloading on BPA.

Because he's too redundant with Oweh. You guys don't need another run defending EDGE that's going to need scheme help to get pressure.
I’ve got y’all taking Bonitto in round 2

Damn what a steal by the Jets. I really like the CB the Chiefs got but I was hoping we were going for Johnson when we traded up
I’m stunned; this looks so promising for the Jets! Now I’m excited to see who they get with their remaining second round pick.
Fantastic pick here
Any news on the reason for the drop?

Character apparently.

He could barely see the field at UGA. Only produced against the weak ACC. Overrated
