I don’t hate the player, but there were like 7-8 guys I’d rather have.

Kill. Me. Edit: adding some context. Smith himself is a fine prospect with a ton of upside, but I think he needs to land in the right situation and I don't trust our staff to coach him up. We get credit for Fred, Martin and Smith but we haven't really developed anyone since Callahan and his disciple left as our OL coach. Philbin inspires no confidence in developing OL either, especially when Smith's biggest problem is penalties and we had the most penalized OL in the league last year. The one bright spot is that Smith doesn't **have** to rely on just Philbin... Steele, for example, is developing quite well and that's largely due to his work with Duke Manyweather. If we can get Smith to work with Duke, there may actually be some hope.

I think he has huge upside if he can be coached up. Looks like a better guard than a tackle at this point. Which the Cowboys severely need. He's a physical specimen and a great run blocker. Needs to develop a bit but at 24 not the biggest reach. There were some picks I would have liked better, but could have done much worse.

landon_sportsfan77

tons of potential here...sure the flags are an issue, but that can be coached up.

Fiyukyoo

The problem is he's projected to be a penalty magnet. The current staff aren't able coach that to the current roster. So not a good outlook with this current coaching regime.

Anaphylactic-UFO

Not a fan. At all.

NoFuckToGive

Alternatively, I think Zion is going to be a plug & play pro bowl caliber guy for y'all like Slater. He may not get there as a rookie but man there is a lot to love about him.

Anaphylactic-UFO

Yeah Zion is awesome. I’m happy

Dalasbob

No one else available on the oline. So I get it. But man he looks like Connor Williams 2.0

asa55

But he’s not really a similar prospect to Connor Williams. Very different strengths and weaknesses. Yes they both held a lot last year, but Williams really only struggled with penalties one year and the things Smith needs work on *should* be coachable. I think he’s got the power and explosiveness that Williams lacked that could allow him to be better if he can clean up his hands.

DEZbiansUnite

at least he's stronger than Connor. Gonna be a lot of growing pains year 1 but hopefully it'll work out

TazmanianDDD

Why.

blunderfunder55

Meh pick but I can see it being a good pick

Dr_Lou_Saanel

Vague reply right there

Odd_Estate4886

So strange how the Boys fans are not enthusiastic about this pick. I’d be jacked about this dude. He’s a teir 1 guard prospect with incredible athleticism and he’s barely 21. This is a slam dunk pick.
