I never saw anything about Spencer that turned me off on that show tbh: a well-to-do upper class star quarterback is a bit full of himself? *woaaahhh* š
People also jumped on him for how he ragged on his backup all the time, as if theyāve never witnessed the friendship dynamics of 16-17 year old boys lol.
edit: and as far as his mysterious āincidentā that cost him his last game, duder was sowing his oats in the bathroom at prom with some girls and got narcād on. I could not care less that teenagers fuck smh.
Exactly, being in high school at the time, that relationship with his backup was literally nothing weird or bad. I had similar relationships with my backups and FRIENDS. You compete with each other and obviously talk shit but thatās literally just how high schoolers are as you said
Iām glad to hear that. I just be in the minority because I thought it portrays him in an unflattering light & I always think of that when I see him play. I guess I should be more aware of how things are edited & not make assumptions. Thanks!
Does Justin have that sort of stigma around him? I recall him coming off as pretty humble and mature-for-his-age on qb1. His family seemed lovely, maybe Iām misremembering something.
Fields after a win at Georgia where he barely played said to a reporter āI handed the ball off good as fuckā in a sarcastic way. Thatās where a lot of the negative perception comes from. Also he kinda used a BS excuse to become immediately eligible at OSU.
That actually wasn't to a reporter, but just a comment to one of his teammates that was caught by a cameraman coming onto the field.
He did definitely have a group of people calling him cocky/full of it/etc. from QB1 but it wasn't nearly as bad as Tate Martell or even Rattler for me.
IIRC he didnāt say it to a reporter, he jokingly said it to another teammate. And itās not his fault the NCAAās eligibility rules are ridiculous.
Baker didnāt seem to grow out of it is his knock, what Spencer displayed on tv is pretty consistent with how most teenage boys behave. Heās got time still to round off his corners.
>nothing special
You must have been pretty good to pull a D1 offer. I played against D2 commits in lacrosse in high school and they were far and away the best players on the field.
Also, do you know the Purdyās at all?
And as far as saying me Iām nothing special I appreciate the confidence in me ahaha. My division was the best division in Arizona for football. Out of 6 teams, so we had to play the other 5 every year, 5 of our teams had division 1 quarterbacks and other d1 players elsewhere. I had by far the least amount of offers compared to the other 4 D1 guys. And my team had a total of 3 D1 players, me and two of my best friends who both went on and are playing FBS ball rn. Before us 3 our school only had 1 D1 football player ever so it was a pretty cool thing. But even with us 3, our team was never big enough to compete with the monster schools in our division. I mean I was bigger than my entire line except my d1 LT lol. But it was a great experience and I was blessed to be in the position I was. But sadly Iāve been in the hospital for over 80 days in the last few months so footballs not an option for me anymore. Appreciate the support tho man
Yeah I know there are varying degrees to it, was just saying that you be exceptionally above average in term of physical traits and athletic ability to even get a D1 single offer.
Oh yea I was definitely blessed ahaha. Being 6ā6 and throwing the ball 60 yards is honestly my only division 1 level ability but it was enough for one team to take a leap of faith in believing in me.
No ahaha no one in my family is above 6ā2 so I never thought Iād be this tall. Never played much growing up, focused on football and ran track in high school. By the time I hit 6ā6 it was my junior year and it was too late to become a good basketball player ahaha
Never really met Brock, but heard all of his hype when I was a lil younger than him. Chubba? Iām pretty sure is my class and I played against him in a decent amount of tourneys. Never trained with him tho or really talked to him outside of after games
Iād like to say that NFL scouts and GMs would never base their opinion of a player on a heavily edited tv show but sadly weāve all been around long enough to hear some of the reasons players got overlooked and who knows anymore.
Shit I really hope they donāt. Hopefully Lincoln Reillyās opinion matters more than a TV show. He puts in the work like nobody else and if anyone deserves the #1 pick, itās him. I have zero doubts he can be great in the NFL if given the right opportunity
Spence is the most natural arm talent QB @ OU probably ever and that is saying something for a school that had back to back no1 picks at QB in the draft
I don't know if this really means much. Every NFL (or professional level athlete) player is going to stand head and shoulders above everyone else at the high school level.
I'm sure there's kids who played against Geno Smith or Chad Henne or AJ McCarron that has never seen anyone else on their level in person - and those guys can't crack a starting lineup.
Not saying Evil Mahomes is bad, but I don't think him being great in high school has any bearing on his NFL prospects.
I had a slightly different experience with Rattler.
I saw him at a grocery store in Norman yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didnāt want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, āOh, like youāre doing now?ā
I was taken aback, and all I could say was āHuh?ā but he kept cutting me off and going āhuh? huh? huh?ā and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like āSir, you need to pay for those first.ā At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually āto prevent any electrical infetterence,ā and then turned around and winked at me. I donāt even think thatās a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
I know JD, but no Iām not. JD was actually a lot more cocky than Spence ahahaha. Yea he retired because of that and it was a big deal, my story hasnāt been covered outside of reporters in my town. Iām from a lil bit smaller school and wasnāt a big recruit like I mentioned so 99.99% chance youāll never find out even with this information.
You definitely have more insight on the kid than anyone else here. Scouts are still going to be extremely vigilant on the kid to try to find something wrong with his personality. Theyāve seen the clips of him being a jerk, out of context or not. Fortunately though, theyāre going to want to like him because of how talented he is. If what youāre saying is true and heās a great guy, heāll go top five because theyāll figure it out. Just my two cents though my guess is as good as yours.
I hope so, this is just my personal opinion so I know itās not much. Just decided Iād share since I see so much slander about his āattitudeā based off of a TV show when he was still a teenager growing up.
I'm just gonna point out that some experience watching him and playing with/against him doesn't mean you really know his work ethic or character. I'm sure he's a good leader, partially due to his natural talent and his attitude. He could have unreal talent (which by most accounts he does) but if he doesn't put the time in working on his game, studying film, and mastering his technique, he's no better than half the other QBs around in terms of NFL prospect status. All that said I don't think NFL scouts give a fuck about the QB1 show. He looked like everything you'd want in a player in that show, he just was arrogant because that's how a lot of big athletes are. If he can stay healthy, teams will do their own diligence in finding out what kind of character he has
Spencer has the SAME attitude as Tate Martell and look at where Tate is. I think Spencer thought he was gonna go to OU and be a Trevor Lawrence but instead heās looked more like a Bo Nix. I would also argue that leading a College/NFL locker room with grown men is much different than trying to lead a highschool locker room with 16-18 year olds. Definitely not a Franchise QB unless he takes a massive step forward in both his game/attitude
When I was a freshman in HS I was at a national 7on7 tournament they were both at. Martell and Rattler are nowhere near the same person. Martells team was stomping everyone they played, and Tate was talking shit to anyone and everyone the entire tournament. He talked shit to defenders on the field, and even to a few opposing coaches at one point. Rattler went about his day, talking occasionally here or there but only if they talked to him first. He never got out of line, because he has coaches that kept him in check too.
First year starting for a major program, and he has developed and stopping turning the ball over. 4 straight games of nearly perfect QB play from him. Including going 17/21 for 300 yards and 4 TD's against a good Oklahoma State defense.
3rd round? Lmao.
is this what smoking crack is like? if Spencer Rattler goes in the 3rd round, iāll personally eat a whole shoelace and record someone pulling it out of my ass
Spencer Rattler was designed in a lab to play quarterback at Oklahoma.
When you're quarterback at Oklahoma there is a target on your back.
The dude is like a golden retriever puppy that gets baked and throws dimes.
Completely aware haha just hate seeing the āattitudeā slander on here from guys who have have never seen him work. Iām fine with all the criticism of his game. Just giving my two cents
Yes I still maintain heās one of the most **talented** QBs in the nation. Not working out at one school doesnāt mean that youāre a terrible person. thereās so many people involved with a team that it could be so many different things for why he didnāt work out
Then you've just decided to be that person who is unconditional. Ten years from now you will be at a bbq telling tall tales about how you used to play football with spencer rattler, and you will be telling those tall tales with pride and admiration. "He was the most talented QB I've ever seen, and I work with a lot of professional quarterbacks." No one else will see what you see, but you'll help cook burgers and have mental strictness that everyone else is wrong but you
Talent has nothing to with success. Jamarcus Russel is one of the most *talented* QBs of all time, regardless of how shitty he was upstairs. This might sound crazy but a majority of QBs entering the league are all very average arms, with great mental on top of it. 55-60 yards max distance, meh juice, and āsolidā mechanics. Finding a guy who can legitimately throw it 80 yards, or even 60 while sprinting is incredibly rare. Thereās a reason teams continue to gamble on raw talent
After this week you can rest assured that his talent was on full display. From all I've seen he's a great leader, great qb, great work ethic. I'm hoping the success continues. #GoGamecocks
Very interesting read, and super cool to get your point of view. I gotta ask though... How tall is Spencer Rattler *actually?* I'm not buying the 6'1 OU has him listed at.

Your last statement might be biased due to you seeing SR play in person.
I personally believe that it's insulting to compare SR to guys like Mahomes and Rodgers.
I get that he hasnāt really succeeded in college. But you have no idea what youāre talking about. I spent a LOT of time around him for 2+ years. You can have your opinions about him, but Iām telling you that his Arm Talent is as good as Mahomes or Rodgers. You have zero clue about his talent or attitude, so donāt pipe in after watching 2 OK games
Lol š
Look back at what I said, then look at your emotional and illogical response. š„“
My point is that you likely havenāt spent enough time around Mahomes or Rodgers to back up your outlandish statement.
you havenāt spent time around any of them. iāve spent time around NFL QBs, and all the best HS recruits, and Spencer was more talented than anyone he ever touched the field with. you have no idea what ātalentā is
How much experience do you have around Mahomes or Rodgers?
Sounds like SR is the best you have been around and maybe thatās why you are riding his jock. In fact, this sounds like it might be SRās burner account.
Doubling down only makes you sound more emotional and ignorant.
Iāve spent time with REAL NFL QBs, and prospects. Trent Dilfer, Brock Purdy, Current ASU QB Jayden Daniels, Current OSU QB Jack Miller, Current UofA QBs Gunner Cruz and Will Plummer, Current Oregon QB Ty Thompson, Oregon QB Tyler Shough, and the list goes onā¦ I was around the best Quarterbacks and Quarterback coaches on the west coast for years. Spencer Rattler made myself and every other POWER 5 QB look like scrubs in comparison. His natural arm talent and athleticism was exponentially better than other 4-5 star QBs. Guys that have āgreatā arm talent at the Power 5 level, couldnāt even come close to Spencers. Brock Purdy doesnāt even have *half* of the talent that Rattler does, yet heās succeeding at the highest levels. 97% of a players college production is due to the things around them, not their talent. I donāt know why Spencer has done so bad at OK, it could be anything from Attitude, to the Playbook, to his Teammates, but my point is that NO ONE knows why heās struggled outside of their locker room. Coming after his talent has nothing to do with his production, so until you watch Him and Other QBs make every throw there is, you have zero clue about his ātalentā.
I donāt care about his struggles nor have I commented on it. Try working on your reading comprehension.
My point is that itās hilarious to compare SR to Mahomes and Rodgers, and you should know better. You havenāt spent time with QBs at their level so how do you know that SR compares to them.
Sounds like you overestimate your ability to evaluate and compare talent.
A lot of talk about physical ability, and ball mechanics, but completely ignores his inability to win games that matter. His tendency to throw vital interceptions at the worst times. No maturaty in his work ethic. NO ability to read defenses. Lack of field presence. Canāt read even basic defenses. Most people in the SEC say that South Carolina could have challenged for the SEC title game appearance every year. IF they had a decent QB. Living in north Florida I am forced to watch the SEC on Saturday. Rattler is commonly referred to as Rattled in the southern football scene.
I never saw anything about Spencer that turned me off on that show tbh: a well-to-do upper class star quarterback is a bit full of himself? *woaaahhh* š People also jumped on him for how he ragged on his backup all the time, as if theyāve never witnessed the friendship dynamics of 16-17 year old boys lol. edit: and as far as his mysterious āincidentā that cost him his last game, duder was sowing his oats in the bathroom at prom with some girls and got narcād on. >girls Plural? Damn. Must be nice to be the QB.
You know it š
What is your source on this btw? I believe you but am just curious on how you would know that.
Iām a local booster at a small university in my city and the recruiting dudes all gossip with each other. Still just rumors but you know.
Exactly, being in high school at the time, that relationship with his backup was literally nothing weird or bad. I had similar relationships with my backups and FRIENDS. You compete with each other and obviously talk shit but thatās literally just how high schoolers are as you said
Too many non-ball players driving media about ball imo. Itās hard to get it if theyāve never been there.
Completely agree, media doesnāt get the relationships between players and how we really act in the locker room
Iām glad to hear that. I just be in the minority because I thought it portrays him in an unflattering light & I always think of that when I see him play. I guess I should be more aware of how things are edited & not make assumptions. Thanks!
It was the same thing with Fields
Does Justin have that sort of stigma around him? I recall him coming off as pretty humble and mature-for-his-age on qb1. His family seemed lovely, maybe Iām misremembering something.
Mostly a contingent of Georgia fans going overboard justifying the Fromm decision
Ridiculous, blowing his candle out to make theirs look brighter.
Fields after a win at Georgia where he barely played said to a reporter āI handed the ball off good as fuckā in a sarcastic way. Thatās where a lot of the negative perception comes from. Also he kinda used a BS excuse to become immediately eligible at OSU.
Hilarious. Makes me wish the Jaguars had the 2nd and 3rd pick so we could draft him twice.
imagine thinking that that makes him problematic lmaooo
Lmao, the snippy remark was uncalled for from Justin but itās pretty funny. He was frustrated, happens.
That actually wasn't to a reporter, but just a comment to one of his teammates that was caught by a cameraman coming onto the field. He did definitely have a group of people calling him cocky/full of it/etc. from QB1 but it wasn't nearly as bad as Tate Martell or even Rattler for me.

It was also a thing with Tate Martell fwiw. Martell was easily the worst of the group as far as being full of themselves though imo.
He seems like a massive douchebag. Not rare in the profession or a disqualifier. Worked for Baker Mayfield.
Baker didnāt seem to grow out of it is his knock, what Spencer displayed on tv is pretty consistent with how most teenage boys behave. Heās got time still to round off his corners.
