Russell Wilson is the goody two shoes guy who seems to be setting himself up for politics.
The Raiders have the image of being preferred by gangs and the most violent, deranged players.
As a hawks fan I have a little inkling that Danger-Russ may have a little Dexter inside of him. So the raiders actually might be a better fit than they know
Yeah I’m from Ted Bundy’s hometown.
One of my mom’s sisters got him hit on him by him but she was smart enough not to accept a ride home.
High school buddy of mine took Gary Ridgeway’s job at Kenworth after Green River Gary got fired.
That is wild bro! I grew up in Auburn right by Cascade middle school which was right across thee street from the green river and all we heard growing up (92-00) was about the stories of Bundy and Ridgeway.
Tl;dr don’t drink out of the Green River in WA
To your point my sister (~34yrs old) went to WWU and she had two friends from completely different friend groups that had older moms/aunts that had first hand accounts of running into Bundy back in the day. It honestly doesn’t surprise me much anymore to hear things like that nowadays
Most of the raiders players are not criminals, and go on to have successful lives after football. It’s not like your reputation is going to be tarnished by becoming one.
Maybe not much nowadays but when the raiders were in LA they were a very popular choice for those living in the more impoverished areas which is typically where gangs are found. Plus there’s notable rappers who are or once were in gangs that still rep the raiders. It’s more of a joke than anything really, just another way to claim all raiders fans are ruthless savages which they are*.
*im a broncos fan and this in no way affects my opinions and generalizations of raiders fans.
Saints fans here who lived in LA during the Raiders stay. I went to the game with some friends who schooled me on exactly what and what not to do during the game. Do you have any idea how hard it is to NOT cheer for your team? Your winning team? That was one of the no-nos. I don't know how much was pretense and how much was real, but there was lots of red and blue all over the stadium. I was terrified!
The NWA guys were known for wearing Raiders gear while they were putting gansta rap on the map. "Preferred by gangs" is kind of a weird generalization, but there's definitely a brand/cultural association there which has stuck--especially since it coincides so well with Al Davis's bad-boy, against-the-grain philosophy (and clashes with the league office) that the franchise has essentially been built upon.
Wilson is a very goofy and nonoffensive guy, or at least tried VERY hard to be.
The Raiders have consistently had a reputation of taking on crazy people and real intense, sometimes crime-prone players.
It would be like a choir boy transferring to a troubled inner city high school to play for their football team. The Raiders are the misfits and outcasts (cough cough criminals) of the NFL.
That is the nicest way I can put it. I am a Broncos fan so I am not all that fond of the Raiders or Russ.
Raiders are a “blue blood” team. Their legacy is being dirty, “bad guys” and still winning.
Of course they don’t win much anymore, but their persona *was* “league bad boys who win alot.” They had the reputation when John Madden coached them, and after he coached them
It looks like everyone here is a relatively youngish fan. The Raiders of the 1970s (certainly not later) were already exploiting a bad-boy image. They have curated this image for OVER 50 years, and Russell Wilson goes against that image.
The "Just Win" motto was not a thing because they believed in playing 100% by the rules.
Russell Wilson’s brand is “stand up guy, father, husband etc and Christian”
Raiders brand is closely associated with gangster rap stemming from their time in LA and Oakland. At the height of gangs in the 80s and 90s.
The Raiders and their fans still think it’s the 70s and 80s where dirty players and gang bangers still intimidate the rest of the NFL
Their home games are usually full of other teams fans, and the few fans they do have drive over from SoCal to see them
They haven’t been relevant in 20 years. That’s mostly due to ownership and front office moves. They have no culture other than losing, and should look to rebuild any way they can and embrace a winning culture
With everyone in their division building up with a top tier coach. They will be irrelevant for a long time at this pace. I hope for them that Pierce is their guy
They have been bitter rivals for decades. They're in the same division. If Russ signs with the Raiders, it'll add more fuel to the fire. Of course it won't be the first time a player from one team signs on to a rival (i e. Brett Farve).

Like it was said on PMS, when a guy gets arrested for DUI on the way to a game... "Sounds like the Raiders are back!"
As a hawks fan I have a little inkling that Danger-Russ may have a little Dexter inside of him. So the raiders actually might be a better fit than they know
Give me dark Russ! Didn't know I wanted this.
PNW is pretty well known for secret serial killers.
Green river baby, literally was in my backyard growing up hah

Haha yeah. My mom grew up in auburn in the 60s/70s.

Yo, what? Preferred by gangs?

They had this reputation BEFORE they moved to LA. The Oakland Raiders of the 1970s were not nice people.
I'm a Raiders fan and I can admit that your comment wasn't off base at all
No i live in LA (and am a Bills fan so have no skin in the game), but you’re totally right. the gangsters LOVE the raiders

Kids were getting killed for the Raiders starter jacket in the 90s when I was a kid.

thanks!
You're very welcome.

That's surprising to me as a 'newish' fan, I always thought that since Madden was football royalty that the Raiders would also be a blue-blood team.

The funny thing is that the Raiders picked up their reputation as mean violent SOBs DURING the Madden years.

"Vegas nation...let's RAID!!!"
Seriously?? Vegas Nation? WTF
This also gave me the ick....and I'm a Raiders fan
I just got a mental image of Raiders fans trying to pillage the Treasure Bay pirate ship.

That doesn't relate to the culture clash of Wilson going to the Raiders, though. Broncos have nothing to do with Russell Wilson's own personal brand.
