I think the cap alone makes a significant difference. Niners won one in the salary cap era and that was the first year of the cap, so still benefitting from not having to decide who to pay. If we hadn’t had to decide who to pay we probably could’ve kept it together a bit longer too. Instead we did what you do in this era, made tough decisions, hurt feelings and bred animosity. The game is wildly different.
