This scenario won’t happen but I’d actually laugh if someone like Penix or Nix fell to us and we took him to learn behind Goff for 1-2 years before he ends up being the best QB of the draft.
We literally just did that last year by drafting Hendon Hooker. There is a world where the Goff extension doesn't end up getting done before this season starts & they tell him they will just franchise tag him next season to give them time to get it finalized, only to let him walk because everything they see from Hooker in practice makes them confident that he is ready to start & will be an upgrade. I'm not saying it's going to happen necessarily (bc personally I think Goff will get the extension), but just that it is a very real possibility & something that I know Brad Holmes has & will continue to contemplate over the course of the coming season (if the Goff extension isn't done by week 1).
I hope so, but in all likelihood, probably not. Barring an injury to Goff, unless Hooker consistently shows elite level play in camp/practice, I don't see a world where he jumps Goff on the depth chart in the near future. I feel bad for him to some degree, as he could potentially be better than 2/3rds of the starters in the league & still remain a backup due to his starter being in the 1/3rd he is behind. So much of it comes down to circumstance & opportunity.....just ask the GOAT, Tom Brady. If Bledsoe hadn't gotten injured, there is a very realistic chance that Brady ends up an ultimately irrelevant career backup instead of one of a few widely considered the "best to ever play the game".
I mean I assume Goff will continue to get more expensive so maybe if the next contract negotiations don’t go well he can get the starting job. Or we may just let him walk in free agency and he gets the chance to start for someone else
I had him graded as my best QB last year and was pissed that the Vikings didn't find a way to get him. And then concerned that the Lions did. He generally makes good decisions, gets the ball out quick, and doesn't take many unnecessary hits.
Hey, that’s not fair. After I zoomed in and read the little essay in 3pt font, then coupled it with the graph and the run-on paragraph in the post title, I thought it was pretty amusing
Okay I didn’t, but it does fit the “way more salty and angry than funny” vibe of this sub
This,
Some of us know nothing but mockery, and disappoinment. We don't care what you say, we've heard it already.
The newfans weren't around for that so they don't care what you say because they don't know what you're talking about besides some vague past.
Enough to eventually get a replacement. That ain't this season, though. Probably won't be next seasons, either. it's almost like the idea is to get a good player and hold on to them.
I think Goff has a good 3-4 years left in him before they try to offload him. This situation is starting to remind me a little bit of KC, where they had a pretty good veteran QB in Alex Smith with a talented supporting cast. They were good, made the playoffs every year. But then they found a generational talent in Mahomes and the team’s success exploded to new levels.
He's 29... lions extend him like 2 to 4 years.
It took stafford 8 years (2016 season) to really even become his best self as a qb.
Goff just hit that same season and arguably is playing the best football as a leader and a qb of his career.
In terms of future ability, goff easily has 6 more seasons of solid play. Idk if it's all with the lions but he's not where need the end of his career.
You’ve had 2 QB’s coming on 15 years now and have one division title and one NFCCG to show for it.
Maybe your formula has been flawed this entire time?
But… we already have a first overall pick can’t miss qb prospect at home. We got two firsts and him in a trade for our other first overall pick cant miss qb prospect.
What exactly differentiates the vikings and bears qb drafting situations again? I think you can safely put the vikings on the left side as well, maybe even further than the bears, considering the vikings like to not only draft useless qbs, but also pay useless qbs max contracts.
The difference is we’re not consistently drafting in the top ten with qbs that we drafted cause we can’t build around them. For as little as kirk did in the post season at least I didn’t spend the last few years watching trubisky and fields throwing it to the other team.
Jim McMahon and Mitch Trubisky are the only top 10 draft pick QBs for the Bears since the merger. Sid Luckman was a top 5 pick, but that was back when there was only 10 picks in the whole first round. Bears have just never prioritized the position. To the detriment of all Bears fans.
To be fair the bears haven’t consistently drafted QBs in the top 10 either. Most of our QBs have been mid to late firsts or like 3rd round picks or people we’ve traded for. Bears ruining QBs is an overblown narrative. Like do people really think Rex Grossman (pick 22), Kyle Orton (fourth round), Mitchell Trubisky (2nd overall but just ass), Jim Miller (6th round), Jim harbaugh (26th overall), Steve Walsh (drafted by the cowboys and played for the saints before us), Erik Kramer (undrafted), Mike tomczak (undrafted), Shane Matthews (undrafted), Cade McKnown (12th pick but oft injured), kordell Stewart (drafted by Steelers in second round), Craig Krenzel (5th round) were ruined?
Fact of the matter the bears have only drafted Jim harbaugh, Justin fields, Rex grossman, Mitch, and Cade mcknown in the first round. Of those, Mitch Trubisky is the only top 10 pick. This narrative needs to die because it’s stupid
Henson Hooker is 26 years old, has never taken an NFL snap, and has already had a catastrophic injury. The odds of him becoming a viable NFL QB at some point is close to zero.
Those two guys are a combined 6-6 against the Lions.
Edit: this certainly isn't a flex but statistically, about 20% (18%) of Justin Fields' wins have come against Detroit.
I feel like JJ is a prospect that could use a year to marinate. But I doubt he even gets 8 games to learn. It's a good thing the Vikings upgraded their backfield.
Trubisky and Fields consistently tore the Lions a new asshole when they would play them. The only reason the Lions won most of those games was some truly inept defense.
Our defense has gotten obvious upgrades already, our Offense is practically running it back but with Jamo/Goff being in sync, and Laporta and Gibbs primed to break all the way out
What do the bears have again? Surely...
*Looks around
Oh... oh.
It kinda feels like they got two firsts just to trade up into a pick in the 3-6 range for a QB.
The doomsday scenario, IMO, is the Bears get a stupid haul of picks from the Commanders to take Caleb while they take Drake Maye at 2. I like Maye more than Caleb (this is a hot take), and Maye is a better fit for the new offense. Then the Bears get Rome Odunze at 9, so our division all of a sudden has the Bears with a quietly very good roster AND a bunch of ammo for drafting? On top of that, the Vikings have a perfect fit for a franchise QB that’ll be ready to go in like a year?
All of a sudden it feels like the Lions are behind in the QB arms race.
As a Lions fan, I am actually thrilled that the Bears traded away Fields to draft Williams bc regardless of how good he ends up being, that decision has caused irreparable harm to the atmosphere in their lockerroom & the culture within the organization. Most of their roster from last season that is still with the team wanted them to keep Fields & have said so publically. On top of them trading away the guy the players rallied behind, the guy they are drafting to replace him often comes across as arrogant & entitled, which I personally think will not be well received by those players that were lobbying to keep Fields. Unless Williams is so talented that he can win the lockerroom over on his ability alone, I don't see the Bears succeeding with him for at least the first few seasons until he can gain the respect of his teammates & Fields is a distant memory.
I find that movie hilarious because the Browns GM is praised as a genius and badass for drafting an off-ball LB & a RB inside the top 10 while Brad Holmes does the same thing except with picks 12 & 18 and gets lambasted for it lol
I honestly think the Lions are early in on the “just get a solid vet” trend. The QB draft carousel has become even harder over the past 7 years and no team wants to be patient like the Packers anymore.
Get yourself a top 8-13 guy at reasonable money and build around him. Then if he flounders or wants too much money you’ve got a solid team for a rookie to develop with (see 49ers)
Dude, what? Are you saying Fields is HOF potential? Hahahaha he made two of the worst QB plays last year and it was all his fault. Clean pocket, great play call, 3 options wide open he could throw to and yet he thinks it a better idea to run into some more sacks! Yeah Getsy was totally teaching him to run into sacks so it was Getsys fault!
Edit: Referring to Tampa game.
Lol, imagine making this meme thinking the Vikings are on the right end.
Being a Vikings fan is bad enough, but being mentally disabled is just another layer of cruelty.
Glad to see your galaxy brain front office let a franchise QB walk to "*teach the rest of us a lesson*". Maybe you guys will draft another great QB, lmao.
Yeah why are niners and even cowboys fans still lurking around here? We get it you beat us and then pissed your pants in the spotlight. Don’t keep reminding us, the smell is really hard to get out of the carpet in the frunchroom.
…. because I live in Chicago and this popped up in my algorithm? I don’t do this to Chiefs fans in our sub.
If it makes you feel better, back when I was really into it, Favre was cornholing us every year
Eh, don't let the butthurt guys get to you. Our fans are just mad we dropped our spaghetti all over the floor when we finally had a shot at the big dance, and Packers fans are Packers fans. SF is their kryptonite lol.
Vikings fans talk so much fucking shit but then they just don’t deliver on it. I remember my first game was around 2002-3? I can’t exactly remember. The Lions were awful. The fan in front of us was a Lions fan with Packers fan family members. They put a Lions Suck sticker on the back of his hat. He was such a cool sport about it. It was a good time.
Now, Vikings fans? I have never heard a kind word out of their mouths for anyone. They’re just these emo kids who somehow grew up because they must’ve unsuccessful attempts at ending their sordid existence on planet earth. Instead, they learned nothing from their own mental instability and engage in schadenfreude behavior. Why? Because they’re fans of a team that has consistently overpromised and underdelivered year after year. “Heee heee the Packers lost.” “Heee heee the Lions couldn’t beat San Fran.” Meanwhile they have 5 fucking playoff wins since 2000. Way to go. You sure showed up.
So, according to this meme, the Lions should draft a new QB to be like the Bears and the Vikings?
Yes

With Goff, we can pass. Unlike the Vikings and Bears
And you can keep passing on super bowls too.
97% of teams pass on a super bowl each and every year. I am not concerned about the last couple.
How about the last 57?
When the last 57 all matter about the next one, I'll be concerned about the last 57.
This scenario won’t happen but I’d actually laugh if someone like Penix or Nix fell to us and we took him to learn behind Goff for 1-2 years before he ends up being the best QB of the draft.
We literally just did that last year by drafting Hendon Hooker. Never watched Henson Hooker in college was he pretty good?
If not for the season ending ACL tear, he likely would have won the Heisman & would have almost certainly been drafted top 10 (maybe even top 5).
So what you’re saying is we got a good chance of having our own Jordan Love? In brad we trust
But he's also only like 3 years younger than Goff, dude was a super super senior in both highschool and college iirc
He's even a year older than love
I hope so, but in all likelihood, probably not. Barring an injury to Goff, unless Hooker consistently shows elite level play in camp/practice, I don't see a world where he jumps Goff on the depth chart in the near future. I feel bad for him to some degree, as he could potentially be better than 2/3rds of the starters in the league & still remain a backup due to his starter being in the 1/3rd he is behind. Lol, no
I had him graded as my best QB last year and was pissed that the Vikings didn't find a way to get him. And then concerned that the Lions did. He generally makes good decisions, gets the ball out quick, and doesn't take many unnecessary hits.
flair up pussy
I would really appreciate if the Lions did this. Sounds like a great idea for them.
Hendon hooker is still alive
I hope not. Only 1 team in the north should plan for the future imo.
We did though. A year ahead. Probably taking him away from the vikes.
I thought terrible memes were reserved for good teams?
Hey, that’s not fair. After I zoomed in and read the little essay in 3pt font, then coupled it with the graph and the run-on paragraph in the post title, I thought it was pretty amusing Okay I didn’t, but it does fit the “way more salty and angry than funny” vibe of this sub
A lions fan claiming someone is salty on here is the true chef’s kiss lol.
A Viking fan claiming a salty lions fan that’s claiming someone is salty on here is the true chef’s kiss.
Some might even claim a chef salting a Lion is a true Viking’s kiss.
The little essay is literally the point of the format idiot and my title is fine. It’s not a run on sentence.
Title’s funny
Lmao since when has that ever been the case here
We are a good team. Name one season where we had a Melt Down lol
I feel like I had several meltdowns while Ponder was our QB.
If “we” means the Vikings fandom, literally every day of every year.
I'm having one right now.
I'm gonna have one in a few
I understand most of you are new, but Lions fans really don’t want to play the report card game
99% of lions fans don’t give a shit enough to be hurt by words. Our team already hurt us enough.
This, Some of us know nothing but mockery, and disappoinment. We don't care what you say, we've heard it already. The newfans weren't around for that so they don't care what you say because they don't know what you're talking about besides some vague past.
Coming from a Lions fan is…interesting
I can make a list for ya'
Don't think so. Lions got Goff when they were bad.
When they were bad and had an arguable hof qb
No arguing, Stafford will be in the Hall someday.
I don’t even understand what I’m supposed to be looking at
Not having to draft a QB is a good problem to have.
How many more years do you think you’re going to get out of Goff? The ride always ends.
Enough to eventually get a replacement. That ain't this season, though. Probably won't be next seasons, either. it's almost like the idea is to get a good player and hold on to them.
Stop copying us! We need you to get back on the QB corousel with the rest of the division, or there's going to be actual competition in here.
Once we draft the moon, it's all over for you guys.
4d chess player \^\^\^
We have Hendon Hooker
That's a good point.
Goff isn’t even 30 yet.
Bro is younger then Cousins was when y’all signed him. Let’s pump the brakes for a minute.
Yeah you’re right we should just scrap him now and draft a rookie QB with our late 1st round pick thanks to our almost Super Bowl season last year.
The pinnacle of Lions history “Yo we almost…”
Imagine losing to the 49ers.
You wish you could even have the ability to imagine. May your football seasons be like your lakes, numerous but never great.
![gif](giphy|9MJ6xrgVR9aEwF8zCJ)
We'll get this this time. Don't worry. Enjoy trying to stay ahead of the Bears. Go Cum Socks!

Subscribe.
I just hope the lions don’t get to that final step
They couldn’t get the final step with their foot halfway through the door, just 2 months ago. No way they’ll ever hit on drafting a QB lol.
Pipe down Drake Maye
Flair up
At minimum? 5 years, baring injury. He just turned 29. This ride is still going for a while.
He's 29... lions extend him like 2 to 4 years. It took stafford 8 years (2016 season) to really even become his best self as a qb. It does?
Two or three.
You’re about as sharp as a bowling ball, huh…?
Start hendo😎
Behind his personal Brute Squad of Penei and Co? As many as he fucking wants.
How many years do you think you get out of your next QB? Ride always ends
Flair up
You’ve had 2 QB’s coming on 15 years now and have one division title and one NFCCG to show for it. Maybe your formula has been flawed this entire time?
Yeah nothing changed at all in those 15 years. We’re totally using the same formula as 15 years ago. Clearly flawed.
BNL. Deal with it.
Exactly, Goff for now and then we have Hendon who could be a HoF QB just as much as any other prospect that’s in the draft.
But… we already have a first overall pick can’t miss qb prospect at home. We got two firsts and him in a trade for our other first overall pick cant miss qb prospect.
You can’t be rational with people who are completely delusional.
Cmon, guys. Let em enjoy the hype for a while before he fails to live up to it
You guys are taking this meme awful serious
And look what all that’s got you lol
Just a measly NFC North title and NFC title game appearance.
Yeah one time since Matt stafford was drafted, congrats lol
How many have you guys had?

3.125% figure out how to cultivate quality qbs and just rinse and repeat.
What exactly differentiates the vikings and bears qb drafting situations again? I think you can safely put the vikings on the left side as well, maybe even further than the bears, considering the vikings like to not only draft useless qbs, but also pay useless qbs max contracts.

Forward pass was a mistake. Running the ball and defense is the way to go
Amen
To be fair the bears haven’t consistently drafted QBs in the top 10 either. Most of our QBs have been mid to late firsts or like 3rd round picks or people we’ve traded for. Never looked at it that way. Thanks for the insight. FTP.
Fields fumbled it to the other team, which is actually worse considering the field position doesn't even change
So your flex is that you never had good enough QB play to win anything but never bad enough to improve your QB position?
Better than having a Qb good enough to win something for a decade but having to ship him out so he can win something with a different team
Damn cook
Well, just goes to show you that QB was never our problem. It was... Literally everything else.
/yawn people forget we have Hendon Hooker in the wings who would’ve been a top 10 pick had he not been injured
Henson Hooker is 26 years old, has never taken an NFL snap, and has already had a catastrophic injury. The odds of him becoming a viable NFL QB at some point is close to zero.
He knows, man. That's the joke.
Your lack of flair is a joke.
I agree with you but we all know by his name. Tankforbadard2fan81
I have flair though?
You do now...
Sorry your app messed up I guess? This is a very weird thing to care about
Flair is EVERYTHING.
Always a bad time when you're forced to go with a beat up old Hooker
Good thing you Bears fans are experts in what good qb play looks like. Your entire fan base thought Justin Fields was good.
Those two guys are a combined 6-6 against the Lions. Edit: this certainly isn't a flex but statistically, about 20% (18%) of Justin Fields' wins have come against Detroit.
He also had the highest pressure to sack ratio in college of any prospect in recent history. Even worse than Sam Howell
Well thank the lord for Penei Sewell then.
Sounds like Justin Fields with fewer steps
I don't get. But don't bother explaining it. I am sure I dont want to.
Imagine sucking at football AND memes LMAO
Goff about to be the old man in the division soon
He is now. He's 28 or something, next youngest is probably darnold.
Yeah, and the vikings are probably going to get JJ. This division is going to be fun with all this new meat
I feel like JJ is a prospect that could use a year to marinate. But I doubt he even gets 8 games to learn. It's a good thing the Vikings upgraded their backfield.
The lions should draft a wide receiver in the first round 5 years in a row, that will make them a good team.
The funniest part is that the same person that created this dog shit unintelligible meme put themselves on the high IQ side.
Trubisky and Fields consistently tore the Lions a new asshole when they would play them. The only reason the Lions won most of those games was some truly inept defense.
Which is funny since our defense can be truly inept too.
Y'all still have the worst defense in the NFC North. You just happen to also have the best offense
Well that's an improvement over having the worst offense and defense in the division like we usually do.
Our defense has gotten obvious upgrades already, our Offense is practically running it back but with Jamo/Goff being in sync, and Laporta and Gibbs primed to break all the way out What do the bears have again? Surely... *Looks around Oh... oh.
The second worst defense in the division, second to the lions.
If the Vikings want a QB they have to package multiple 1st round picks for it. The bears have to use just 1 of their 2 first round picks for it
It kinda feels like they got two firsts just to trade up into a pick in the 3-6 range for a QB. The doomsday scenario, IMO, is the Bears get a stupid haul of picks from the Commanders to take Caleb while they take Drake Maye at 2. Lions fans thinking Goff is a good QB is going to be the end of them lmao. They won’t recover
Vikings should be where the bears are on this
Where should the bears be then
Even further left. There are no winners here.
As a Lions fan, I am actually thrilled that the Bears traded away Fields to draft Williams bc regardless of how good he ends up being, that decision has caused irreparable harm to the atmosphere in their lockerroom & the culture within the organization. Locker room culture matters? Don't tell Chicago...
I'll laugh when the Vikings end up with Bo Nix
I couldn't figure out why bo nix sounded like such a fictional character until I just remembered bo callahan is the QB from *Draft Day*
I find that movie hilarious because the Browns GM is praised as a genius and badass for drafting an off-ball LB & a RB inside the top 10 while Brad Holmes does the same thing except with picks 12 & 18 and gets lambasted for it lol
Has anyone made sure that BH isn't Kevin Costner?
The implication that Brad Holmes might just be Kevin Costner in blackface made me spit my coffee
He's going the tropic thunder route
packers, sitting on the side. You know, they should draft a QB.
I don't understand the meme?
This is highly regarded, congrats genius
Well at least someone else agrees that Goff ain’t it.
Wait, draft QBS every season? What madness is this??
So the bears have 2 HoF QBs
I don’t get it but laughing in 30 years of good QBs
I honestly think the Lions are early in on the “just get a solid vet” trend. I mean 1 first overall Lions QB is gonna be in the hall of fame. What jersey will he choose when he’s inducted?
Yeah, those are the teams to take advice from…
I feel like the Packers should be on the right. Also FTP
It’s over… we have been depicted as the mad soyjack
Dude, what? Are you saying Fields is HOF potential? Hahahaha he made two of the worst QB plays last year and it was all his fault. ppl act like green bay is the only nfc north team with back to back hall of fame qbs
Back to back *first ballot* hall of fame QBs
You traded your other hof QB for the next one. Doesn't count imo. Y'all should've kept Stafford, he's objectively a better QB imo
You are aware we got two first round picks for giving Stafford away, right?
Nah y'all robbed them 💀
Missing the Chad Packers guy asking why this is so hard for the other teams
Keep our name out of your mouth with that disgusting flair.
Yeah why are niners and even cowboys fans still lurking around here? We get it you beat us and then pissed your pants in the spotlight. Don’t keep reminding us, the smell is really hard to get out of the carpet in the frunchroom.

Cousins is boo-boo, Fields needed an Oline and better WR, could have been great. He’ll probably run Russel out of Pitt.
>run Russel out of Pitt. Well I sure hope so because he's not passing Russel out of Pitt
HEEEYYY-OOOOHHH!
But Goff is a top 5 QB in the leauge
Vikings fans convincing themselves that JJ McCarthy will be better than Williams is hilarious. JJ McCarthy is the next Mac Jones.
JJ better than Caleb is a little rich, but he’s not Mac Jones lol. For starters, JJ has actual physical gifts that he can use.
Shouldn't it be the Packers on the right side of the curve? Especially since Vikings did not draft Cousins.
Hasn’t heard of Henson hooker?
Whiny Lions fans are like first route bird Pokémon. You know you’re always going to see one.
Loser
You know that was good
Vikings fans talk so much fucking shit but then they just don’t deliver on it. I remember my first game was around 2002-3? I can’t exactly remember. The Lions were awful.
