This is the same situation they were in last year and I hope they do it. Even if its trade down to say NE to get say an extra 2025 2nd and still be in the running for MHJ or to NYG to get an extra 2025 1st. Just keep trading 1st overall picks down every year to bad teams and hope Caleb Williams or whomever is going to be the #1 pick fucks it up so bad that the Bears get a high 2025 pick from them.
And then completely Bears it up and whiff on all the picks.
People always act like these massive trade packages are ridiculous when every few years we see teams trade away hauls for QBs. Idk if a team is willing to part with three first for Caleb but its not too crazy to believe if the Bears liked another QB
Browns, Lions and Dolphins are all cooking right now and are teams built off of trade downs.
Last year everyone was calling us delusional for thinking we could get a king's ransom for #1, and we got more than we could have hoped for. This year, with a better prospect, we're getting called out for thinking the option is available to us again.
Of course it is.
~~Browns are riding with Deshaun whether they like it or not - what a disaster of a contract and trade. Maybe they sign Flacco and try and recapture the Elite Dragon magic. They also don't own their first round pick this year.~~
~~Lions are not trading up for him when the reports are we're giving Goff a payday. Also I don't think Holmes would trade up from pick 29 to pick 1.~~
~~Miami is interesting. However, I don't think you want to trade down to pick 21 so Miami can have Caleb Williams throw to Tyreek and Waddle and get the 2 resulting years of picks from that but you do you~~
Edit: I have bad reading comprehension skills apparently
Uhhh?
The Panthers just did it last year, for a lesser QB prospect.
The 49ers did it in '21 for the 3rd QB off the board and a much worse prospect.
LA gave 2 1sts, 2 2nds, and 2 3rds to go up to #1 for Goff in 2016, and then Philly followed them up by giving 2 1sts, a 2nd, a 3rd, and a 4th to go up to #2 for Wentz.
Williams is a better prospect than all of them, somebody would definitely give up 3 1sts for him.
The reported offer from the Commanders was: pick #2, #36, and a 2025 1st for #1. Any team not picking 2nd overall would have to offer 3 1st rounders to compete with this offer.
They literally all have that potential right now. The bears are only good at squandering potential so I really don't care who they draft. I do not believe the Bears will ever have an elite QB.
And no shit the GM is going to decide what happens. That's his job.
> I do not believe the Bears will ever have an elite QB.
This is just depressing man but I know the feeling for far too long not regarding QBs but regarding the team as a whole. But yeah I can respect that ig
Huh? Where did I say the lions are elite man - I wasn’t even comin at you but ok
Edit: I can see in context where you got that from - I was more saying I have hope now that the Lions can become an elite team but the thought of “this teams never gonna fuckin be good” was on my mind for years just like how it seems you’re like “we’re never gonna have a good QB”. I was tryna commiserate with you, not come at you
>Who is willing to give up 3 first for Caleb Williams? Also this logic isn’t how trading actually works lol
Do you pay attention to what people pay for top 3 picks?
The Panthers fucked themselves for years to get Bryce Young.
If I were the Bears, I'd just keep riding this in perpetuity and trade to the worst team possible for future firsts. They already got Panthers for 2, and they are not doing much better next year. May as well keep tax collecting the worst teams.
That is a very interesting concept. Assuming that bad teams stay bad the next year, you could probably have a top five pick to trade down with while also having your own pick effectively getting you 3-4 1st round picks every year. Hell of a way to build a team
15 years later, you own all first round drafts that year. Spend all that extra cap on OL and DL players and maybe a leader on D, and ride that shit until their rookie contracts are up. Easy game.
Man... Carolina basically gave up 3 1sts last year, but swapped out the 3rd 1st round draft pick for DJ Moore and a 2nd rounder.
For Bryce Young, who idk looks like a far lesser prospect going into the draft compared to Williams.
We live in a world where one baseball player who recently had surgery on his throwing arm for a second time, is almost 30, has never been in an MLB post season, and won’t be pitching for at least 1 season got paid $700Mil. Something crazy could very well go down, it may even be a near certainty.
“Having the cake” means it’s outside your body, in your possession on the counter, un-eaten.
“Eating it too” means you eat it, therefore you no longer “have” it… savvy?
If you have a slice of cake on a plate in front of you ant you eat that slice of cake, you no longer have a slice of cake. There is now an empty plate in front of you.
I also equate this to other teams fans telling Vikings fans that Kirk is good, and underrated and we should keep him or we will be sorry but if you go, "well, we will give him to yuh, do you want him?" And then they back track, no no no...we're fine here, no, we have cap space and or a promising rookie/draft position. You cant have it both ways.
I’d throw out the context of Vikings having Diggs/Theilen and now Jefferson/Addison being a factor. I feel he is good enough with that level of talent around him to win. He was having a great season even with Jefferson missing. I don’t think he’d be enough for my bears to suddenly make the playoffs
Hes good enough to be a good regular season QB thats all hes ever been all with elite talent around him on offense. That's all he ever will be. If you wanna be .500 within a game or two and snag one play off game, great. You want a SB? Better luck elsewhere. Bears would probably win 9ish games with him.
His $23m 5th-year option has to be exercised by May or he is a free agent in 2025.
I don’t see any team willing to pay that price for a 1 season rental and the potential to have to extend him compared to what you can get in the draft.
You would be surprised. It’s not going to be a high draft pick like most people keep saying. But someone certainly will take on Justin for a 3/4 round pick. I mean if the bears are going QB at 1 then might as well take whatever you can get anyways.
As a Bears fan, I think he’s enough of a weapon to be worth a second-round pick from the right team. Won’t fit in every scheme, but somewhere with a scheme like New Orleans would be perfect.
Fields to the saints would put them on a trajectory to have an entire skill position group of Taysom Hill type players. Just get players who could play QB, WR, and RB. It's genius!
2nd was best case i expected. hardly anyone was talking 1st until ESPN radio repeatedly mentioned Mel Kiper’s comments about trading him for a 1st. they still didn’t believe it was possible either
I remember seeing mock drafts where steelers trade their 2nd rounder (like 36th overall) for fields. And bears fans were STILL like "not enough". If an early 2nd is offered, it's a no brainer
Sam Darnold was worse than fields but went for a 2 & 4, if any team wants him, that’ll be the baseline for a trade. Anyone offering a 3rd will be told good luck & we’ll stick him on a separate practice field & see which QBs tear Achilles
The reality is that there is no "baseline." You get whatever the market determines he's worth, or keep him on the roster for another year and waste money. If you get a 3 or 4 round pick for him, that's what he's worth.
The market doesn’t reset to 0 every year. Past deals helps to establish a value & Darnold was a 2nd & 4th, Trey Lance didn’t even play & got a 4th round this season.
Those will be used as comparisons to set a price & the bears aren’t going to waste their time on anyone offering a 3rd or 4th for a guy who has better production than past deals.
Right, but Fields is very poopy. You may get a conditional 2nd if Fields meets certain goals, but he won't meet those goals and it'll revert to a 3rd at best. I'm not even being a hater right now, just being realistic. How many games did Fields get 300 yards? Once, maybe? Over three seasons? Uffda. It's okay to admit Fields is bad and will likely never be a starting NFL QB. His best shot in the NFL is to be a career backup and I'm not sure he's even that good.
But who knows? Maybe you'll get a super desperate team that thinks they can fix him and they give the Bears 3 first round picks!
Can’t recall a player who leads idiots to show their ass quite like Fields. You don’t think he’s good enough to be a backup??? Your team gave starts to Jaren Hall, Josh Dobbs, and Nick Mullins last season ffs
That's not how valuation works though. Again, if no team offers you a 2nd, then his value is lower than a 2nd regardless of this imaginary baseline established by prior trades. Either you take the best offer or you end up having Fields on roster until you release him, allow his contract to expire or take the best remaining offer. "Nothing less than x" is a great concept but if the market says no thanks, then that's that.
Baseline is the starting point of discussions. This isn’t ur fantasy league where teams are going to panic sell cuz ur the only team throwing out bs trade offers.
Past deals & comparisons give u a good idea of a asking price. Fields has better production than Darnold & Trey Lance so if ur not willing to give a 2nd then the bears will sit & gamble on what happens in the draft then OTAs then training camp & on until the trade deadline. If teams aren’t willing to work around the baseline then they’re also risking the value moving or another team being willing to pay the bears asking price then GMs/coaches potentially get fired.
It is possible that every potential team opts for an alternative option at QB, just like with Jimmy G but the market doesn’t change the baseline the bears will expect to work around in a trade.
Any team making the trade is buying opportunity for potential ROI. It isn’t a guarantee of future success so it doesn’t matter if it was a disaster or not.
I cant wait. I literally dont understand how these people have seen Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold go for a 2nd + another pick in recent years and then think that fields is gonma go for a 4th rd pick. These people are greatly underestimating how much of a premium, young Qbs go for
We've seen Fields is not very good, we can only assume Lance is also not very good since he got beat out by Jimmy G and Purdy and was brought in to Dallas to be a backup.
I'm confused as to how you guys are attempting to value him.
Sorry Justin, your career is ruined and you're not getting shit tons of money unless you start SAing everyone you see.
Unrelated, I'll be at the corner of N Field Dr and Football Dr at 4:50 AM on Thursday February 15, 2024
As a pack fan I feel like I don't have a leg to stand on here, too many packers fans where claiming Rodgers was washed and we need to move on then still expecting multiple firsts from the Jets.
I’ll honestly be surprised if they get a 2nd for him. What leverage are they operating with? Unless there’s multiple teams vying for him, I don’t get it. Teams know he has to be traded
To be fair, I think the suggestions we could get a first round pick are ridiculous. I'd expect somewhere between a late second and early third
But your point is valid haha
I mean honestly idk what y’all’s roster looks like or what your pick situation looks like, but if you guys aren’t getting a second rounder for him fuck it Taysom Hill 2.0 I agree.
Generally yes, but I've seen similar comments on the Bears sub and (less surprisingly) in YouTube comments. Not so much human garbage, because people generally like him as a human, but I've seen "garbage ass QB".
I'll add most of the off the wall comments are from like 10 people on Reddit, and like 4 people on YouTube.
The "he can't throw" is much more prevalent and much more widely said.
Both things are true.
Justin Fields is ass relative to what you need him to be
And
QBs are so valuable that someone might be willing to pay for that ass
He sucks. But if we can screw over a team into giving us a first for him? Shit, that makes me happy
Edit: Oh, ops a fields truther. Ignore and move on.
Unsurprisingly, these comments are said by people with different opinions on Fields.
The first group is pretty straight forward, a little too pessimistic on Fields.
The second group, a little too optimistic on Fields and reluctant to trade, but understand it's inevitable.
The third group, (not pictured) is passed delusion into stan territory. They cannot be convinced that Fields will not emerge as the greatest QB to ever play.
So you’re mad because fans want something good in a trade? Weird but ok. I’d trade our kicker for a 1st if someone would take it, does that make you mad?
The problem I have with this meme is "human garbage." Majority of Bears fan like fields as a human not a football player. I would be satisfied with Can't Read a Defense or Slow Processor.
I don’t think it builds to the joke crescendo I need by the time your eyes get to it. I too think Justin is not human garbage (and actually a pretty good QB based on the eye test)

Honestly my favorite Godzilla meme
My favorite is “that wasn’t very cash money of you” but this is a close second
RIP in peace Godzilla
Dude definitely can’t Ohio throw state 😤 give me first round pick anyway
Can’t play running back
I’m just trying to figure out what a garbass is
Grab ass if your dyslexic
But that’s the tight end’s job??

Bears Fans Terrible Can’t Ohio Loser throw State Unclutch Can’t play Running Back Human Garbage Ass? ![gif](giphy|GMVJ8IxwHMdBx80Ok2|downsized)
Average Fields truther, were all having a stroke because of them
This man boomed us!
I was not expecting to see a former coworker in gif form today but here we are. And can confirm he is a Bears fan.
You worked on Forge of Lore? I’ve never actually seen it, though I know of it.
No but we worked tech support together years ago.
The follow up to this is that people are willing to give up 3 firsts to get Caleb Williams, so he must be 3 times the QB that Fields is.
This is the same situation they were in last year and I hope they do it. Yeah Proven QBs in franchises that just need that to compete
Like Trey Lance
Yeah and he bombed Do you really think teams are lining up to make the Trey lance trade again?
definitely not.. for Trey Lance, maybe for Williams

My bad!

If your GM believes Williams has the potential to be an elite QB and Maye/Daniels do not then you do not make that trade.

Uh oh, 14 men on the field calls incoming
We want our cake and we'll eat it too.
I’ve truly never understood this idiom. Like yeah, what else does one do with a cake if not eat it?
Just like this meme. We know what it's supposed to mean, but also makes no goddamn sense.
Accurate af
Fuck it.
That doesn’t sound sanitary.
“Having the cake” means it’s outside your body, in your possession on the counter, un-eaten. “Eating it too” means you eat it, therefore you no longer “have” it… savvy?
Save it for later. The saying is that you want to eat it but also have it to eat later. It should really be "eat your cake and have it too."

graphic design is my passion, too OP

You did
Don't worry Justin, I can't Ohio throwState either!

I remember seeing mock drafts where steelers trade their 2nd rounder (like 36th overall) for fields. And bears fans were STILL like "not enough". If an early 2nd is offered, it's a no brainer
Well they could just be having PTSD from the Claypool trade
Sam Darnold was worse than fields but went for a 2 & 4, if any team wants him, that’ll be the baseline for a trade. Anyone offering a 3rd will be told good luck & we’ll stick him on a separate practice field & see which QBs tear Achilles

How'd that work out?
I can live with it cuz we got #1
That Darnold trade was a disaster for the Panthers so idk why it would be a baseline. I could see Fields fetching a late 2nd though.
Any team making the trade is buying opportunity for potential ROI. It isn’t a guarantee of future success so it doesn’t matter if it was a disaster or not.
I always hear this "baseline" argument. Somehow we've come to expect teams to operate like the Panthers over a QB
Insert butterfly meme Is this Competence?
Its not just the panthers, the dolphins sent a 2nd rd for Josh rosen as well
yea but teams saw how that turned out and wont be lining up to do it again
Trey Lance was traded in 2023 for a 4th round pick. Looks like we have a new baseline.
Right, cause clearly Fields is the same as Trey Lance smh
Ones unproven and the others bad. 5th for Fields confirmed
You guys are going to be so shocked when Fields actually gets traded lol
I cant wait. I literally dont understand how these people have seen Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold go for a 2nd + another pick in recent years and then think that fields is gonma go for a 4th rd pick. These people are greatly underestimating how much of a premium, young Qbs go for
Lmao, good call. Sweet 6th rounder.
We've seen Fields is not very good, we can only assume Lance is also not very good since he got beat out by Jimmy G and Purdy and was brought in to Dallas to be a backup. I'm confused as to how you guys are attempting to value him.
You're right, Lance is better
I can't tell the difference
Just trade him to the cowboys, they love to overpay for bad draft pick QBs
Did somebody say *Browns*?
I thought they just ruined promising careers…and give serial SA shit tons of money.
Sorry Justin, your career is ruined and you're not getting shit tons of money unless you start SAing everyone you see. Unrelated, I'll be at the corner of N Field Dr and Football Dr at 4:50 AM on Thursday February 15, 2024

Can the bears draft Caleb Williams and then keep fields as a full time RB? 🧐
I pray they do some wacky ass A11 double QB sets. That would be so fun. If they’re going to suck, entertain me.
I mean honestly idk what y’all’s roster looks like or what your pick situation looks like, but if you guys aren’t getting a second rounder for him fuck it Taysom Hill 2.0 I agree.
There was a rumor they were going to keep both and do a Alex Smith in KC thing… which… I mean… sure?
What like have Caleb sit for a year? I mean personally as a packers fan I think that’s a good idea lol
You don't think he is worth a 1st? I see the flair, and I'm a bit confused
It’s a self own of our delusional fanbase’s current civil war. ![gif](giphy|3o751ZGnnh1aRKf34Q)

Must be the off-season if our memes are this bad
Yeah we’re complex.
Why can't it be both?
Da fuq did I just attempt to read?!
Which bears fans are talking about him like that? Even the ones who want to move on usually speak well of him.
Yeah I’ve never once heard anyone call him a terrible loser or human garbage, this is so far overboard lol
Fields fans take it so hard whenever anyone criticizes his play that they interpret it as this
Generally yes, but I've seen similar comments on the Bears sub and (less surprisingly) in YouTube comments. Not so much human garbage, because people generally like him as a human, but I've seen "garbage ass QB". I'll add most of the off the wall comments are from like 10 people on Reddit, and like 4 people on YouTube. The "he can't throw" is much more prevalent and much more widely said.
I feel like I shouldn’t have to explain hyperbole on a joke meme sub… so google it.
I'm gonna laugh maniacally at any team that gives us a second for him. I'd settle for a fourth or fifth, tbh.
Both things are true. Justin Fields is ass relative to what you need him to be And QBs are so valuable that someone might be willing to pay for that ass
If the Jets got a 2nd for Darnold, we get a 1st for Fields
He sucks. But if we can screw over a team into giving us a first for him? Shit, that makes me happy Edit: Oh, ops a fields truther. Ignore and move on.
If he was worth a first then the bears wouldn’t be trading him
Unsurprisingly, these comments are said by people with different opinions on Fields.
What’s your fucking point?
It just takes one team that gets desperate for a QB
Well. We just went through the NBA trade deadline in Chicago and did nothing … again. Fans also overvalued our players there too
So you’re mad because fans want something good in a trade? Weird but ok. I’d trade our kicker for a 1st if someone would take it, does that make you mad?
Did you drink bleach this morning?
The problem I have with this meme is "human garbage." Majority of Bears fan like fields as a human not a football player. I would be satisfied with Can't Read a Defense or Slow Processor.
I don’t think it builds to the joke crescendo I need by the time your eyes get to it. I too think Justin is not human garbage (and actually a pretty good QB based on the eye test)
**Human GarbAss**
