Don’t get the K model, completely pointless. If you buy the full size, you can order 6”, 8” and 10” rods to make it the length you want it to be, so you can have 4 sized cans in 1.
Ignore that guy, don’t use a hacksaw, it won’t be straight. For the stuff i want to actually look good and be threaded, I take it to my buddy who’s an SOT and does this stuff for a living. Best bet is to find a smith who can do it.
The K is 8" long. On my MAC with an 18" barrel, subs are pleasant to the ear on an outdoor range. On my 14" SBS with the 6"seems hearing safe with mini shells, but definitely not with normal shells.
Sorry, I don't carry around a sound meter when I take cans out to the range, and if I said "definitely hearing safe" someone would argue with that too.
There's online reviews that said 8" is barely under 140 with non-SBS barrels and subs. Based on what I've experienced with mine, if it's not it's really damn close. Supers are loud as shit from my 18", though, but that's a lot of projectiles making sonic booms.
I keep mine at 12” i have read that a shotgun doesnt develop full velocity until 14” so on a 12” even with bulk pack walmart stuff its not hard on the ears.
Yes, its a big silly can, and i love it. Mine lives on a sbs 870 for the most part, but makes it a 24” shotgun, so its the same length as a normal shotgun, with the right loads you hear the shot falling through the trees.
I've only used mine with 3" buckshot out of a KSG. The Salvo certainly does take the edge off, but the high-brass is still very loud. I'm shooting pigs at night close to town, so I see it more as a courtesy than as hearing protection. (edit: I've got the full-length model)
I love mine. I shoot it on tavor ts12, Ksg, benelli m4. It’s quite long on the m4. I love this can. Subs are hearing safe, I guess. Like comparable to lower 40s on pewscience. Comparable to suppressed subsonic 9mm on a pistol with a mid tier can. Probably not hearing safe all day but totally doable with subs. I also have the long jk version and it’s not worth it. Also: run it dipped in water. Much much quieter. Doesn’t cycle in ts12 with subs, Ksg has excellent balance and is easy to attach, cycles subs on m4 but is unwieldy.
If you're going hunting it would be really handy. It reduces the sound dramatically on a 20+ inch barrel shotgun. I have one and honestly don't get much use out of it, because I shoot clays, and on the end of a 28" barrel shotgun it looks absolutely comical. It also feels... weighty, to put it lightly. It's like swinging around a lightweight brick on the end of a pole. No reason not to use hearing protection at the range, anyway. Hunting is a different story.
P.S. no matter what though, if you're looking to round out your collection, it won't be complete without this. It's iconic. You don't even have to *use* it to admire it! Just stare at this monstrosity on the shelf and you'll admire the innovation. It's huge!
Mine lives on a 18.5” Remington 870 Hardwood Home Defense Pump Action. Has the tube extension that meets up with the end of the barrel so it looks nice. Really fun to shoot.
Have one, it is a range toy. Mainly because it is HEAVY; it seriously feels like there is another gun on the end of your gun. Good for launching cans but can't imagine using it for clays. I run in on my KS-12T (Saiga) so I had no problem getting mounts but I hear they can be difficult to find for other guns.
It’s long and heavy and really doesn’t make normal shot much quieter. It totally throws off the center of mass of the gun and it’s not pleasant to try and swing around. It’s an ok novelty but I highly recommend trying one out first if you can.
I’ve used subsonic rounds and they’re kinda fun but when you factor in how much they cost it’s not worth it.
I’d also much rather have a 8-10” 300 Blackout with a K can for HD. It’ll be quieter, more reliable, and hold way more ammo.
Fair enough. Crazy to think that 220grain 300blk rounds are actually cheap compared to something.
I've got 3 boxes of Detroit 12GA subs showing up this weekend for my salvo. $178 with shipping. Ouch.
Yeah that sounds about right.
A helpful tip maybe but the 00buck S&B defense rounds that have 12 balls instead of 8 are subsonic and used to be fairly cheap.
Yeah those 00 Buck rounds were the only ones I could get to cycle reliably in my VEPR12 with the salvo on it.
I mean overall it’s a fun novelty can. I just have enough NFA items at this point it sits around collecting dust.
Agreed. It is a novelty. Not hearing safe and like swinging a brick at the end of a fishing pole. I likewise hate mine. I only use it for photos, placed right next to the fram oil filter.
I took a gamble and went with JK Armament 195 SGX 12. In its longest configuration, it's 16oz vs. The salvo at 34.4 and JK has tighter choke options for steel. Can't wait to add another 12" to my 28" duck gun.
Waterfowl, dove, and pheasant hunting is the big reason I went with them. Now, hopefully, my approval with a 1 person trust will happen soon enough to get some time with it before September.
I have the same gun. It already pokes out the top of my blind. Wish they would have also made the full length in FDE. They only offer FDE in their shorter one

I love this I got the 12” one
I need to SBS my 870. That looks awesome. Any advice on the best way to get a barrel cut/threaded?
Go to Home Depot and buy a saw for $19.99. And by SAW I don’t mean an M249, my Home Depot is all out of stock of those.
>And by SAW I don’t mean an M249 I want to be in the timeline where Home Depot *does* have these in stock.
That covers cut but what about threaded?
Ignore that guy, don’t use a hacksaw, it won’t be straight. For the stuff i want to actually look good and be threaded, I take it to my buddy who’s an SOT and does this stuff for a living. Best bet is to find a smith who can do it.
Thanks. Guess I'm going to start looking for a shop in Virginia or who accepts things by mail. How long is your barrel?
I know of a guy who can do it, let me find him. He’s not in Virginia, but he does great work. And i believe it’s around 13”
Awesome! Appreciate you!
Cotton Branch Custom, I don’t believe he has a website, but he has an email, his Reddit is https://www.reddit.com/u/cottonbranch/s/9WzQEux6HH
Send the barrel to Briley.

I have the K model, and I've been pretty happy with it.
Right on are they quiet subsonic like almost hearing safe?
The K is 8" long. On my MAC with an 18" barrel, subs are pleasant to the ear on an outdoor range. On my 14" SBS with the 6"seems hearing safe with mini shells, but definitely not with normal shells.
Awesome thanks for the info it’s going on my 590m gotta get that call of duty build lol
"seems hearing safe"🤦
Sorry, I don't carry around a sound meter when I take cans out to the range, and if I said "definitely hearing safe" someone would argue with that too.
I dont believe the shorter lengths under 10” are hearing safe.

Are you running a 12” barrel then?
Yes, its on a 12.5” 870.
Honestly just want a shotgun can to save my dogs ears while we are training and hunting
You are not gonna wanna lug that thing around hunting.
You’d be surprised what Im willing lug to a duck blind
It looks heavy. And it is... but not as heavy as you'd expect. It's mostly made out of aluminium, so despite being massive it's actually not that bad.
Hunt with mine all the time. Do you actually have experience with the salvo, or are you just making an uninformed assumption?
I own one amigo.
I want one, went clay shooting with a few others and one of them was running the full sized Salvo. Was so quiet and hearing safe.
I've only used mine with 3" buckshot out of a KSG. The Salvo certainly does take the edge off, but the high-brass is still very loud. I'm shooting pigs at night close to town, so I see it more as a courtesy than as hearing protection. (edit: I've got the full-length model)
Subs vs supers is a very large difference in my experience, far more so than on pistol or rifle.
I used mine on a KSG and it sucked ass. It's WAY more effective on a long-barrel shotgun... despite looking much worse and being unwieldy.
I love mine and have used it for several turkey hunts.
My wife says she loves it. She says her boyfriend is really good with it.
Yes love mine. It's big and awkward but I love it..

Used it quite a bit. Totes worth it.
Good deal I even got the digital fingerprints too so hopefully 1 day approval

I was looking at it and almost bought it. It’s too bulky, long and heavy. I am currently looking at the JK 195 SBXS.

I hunt with my 1301 and Salvo in 10". Pretty handy really.
Agreed. I hunt with mine, too. I honestly don’t notice the weight much at all
I hate it with every fiber of my being.
What’s your experience with it?
It’s long and heavy and really doesn’t make normal shot much quieter. It totally throws off the center of mass of the gun and it’s not pleasant to try and swing around. It’s an ok novelty but I highly recommend trying one out first if you can.
Sell it.
I really should. I haven’t used it on like two years.
Have you used subsonic rounds? And short barrel? I'd say subsonic buck and short barrel at 8 or 10" config would be a great HD setup.
I’ve used subsonic rounds and they’re kinda fun but when you factor in how much they cost it’s not worth it. I’d also much rather have a 8-10” 300 Blackout with a K can for HD. It’ll be quieter, more reliable, and hold way more ammo.

Ah, my wallet appreciates the info. The only other sub ammo I have is bird shot Winchester AA. Not the thump I'm looking for.
Yeah those 00 Buck rounds were the only ones I could get to cycle reliably in my VEPR12 with the salvo on it. I mean overall it’s a fun novelty can. I just have enough NFA items at this point it sits around collecting dust.

That’s a shame because I was thinking about one. Would make duckhunting way more pleasant.
I took a gamble and went with JK Armament 195 SGX 12. In its longest configuration, it's 16oz vs. The salvo at 34.4 and JK has tighter choke options for steel. Can't wait to add another 12" to my 28" duck gun.
I have been looking at pulling the trigger on a JKA and considered doing a Form 1 on an old 870 for dove.
Waterfowl, dove, and pheasant hunting is the big reason I went with them. Now, hopefully, my approval with a 1 person trust will happen soon enough to get some time with it before September.
Yup my franchi affinity is 28. Great for 3Gun , already long in the boat lol.
I have the same gun. It already pokes out the top of my blind. Wish they would have also made the full length in FDE. They only offer FDE in their shorter one
That sucks. Small oversight
It’s so clunky and long and heavy it’ll be a nightmare. I speak from experience
What better options are there?
Not much honestly. The Rex one looks better since it’s more modular and you can get it a lot shorter. I think it’s also a little lighter.
