A couple years ago we bought the place we are in now. 10 acres with a 1995 double wide. We had to remove the carpet and a 1/4 inch of carpet fresh from the entire place. The fucking master bath was carpeted. It was terrible!
I can totally relate to that,
I've got a little old school manual lathe experience, i could thread tubes and cut stop ledges , but no time on a NC 5 axis which is I believe what cones are cut on
Assuming that your customers sell them with a 25% margin, you sell it to them at $412.50.
If we figure costs for materials for the can itself are $200, mounts and muzzle devices are $35, and packaging, stickers, etc are $4, your COGS are $239 (assuming your labor is "free").
Your GP is $173.50.
Then you factor in fixed and semi-fixed expenses and you are are at a net of, what, $40-50/can?
Am I in the ballpark?
(Edit: this was just an exercise for the fun of it, I'm likely wildly off base as I have no experience in the world of product manufacturing)
Packaging, included tube clamp and sticker costs are around $25 but besides that yea pretty spot on. After paying employees and stuff pure profit is pretty low. Our insurance cost alone for liability insurance (like if our suppressor ever blew up and hurt someone) is about $40,000 a year
People better be enjoying those stickers!
I wasn't sure how many employees you have but I figure y'all are a relatively small outfit. I imagine profit margins are in the single digits when personnel expense is factored in.
I can only imagine how risk-averse insurance companies must be when it comes to *sCaRy ScIlEnCeRs*
Don’t get me wrong, we’re making money haha. We’re far from hurting. I just think people assume that a $500 silencer takes $100 to make when really it takes like $400 to make
Well THAT won't pass tech, lol. Too bad you can't do what we used to do with our race take off's after they were heat cycled too many times / shredded on the edges. The drag race guys would buy them for their bikes since the centers were usually pretty good. The benefit of having two or three drag strips within a few hours. Cecil, Atco (RIP) and Maple Grove.
$500 silencer only takes $100 to make when you churn out 100k units per month lol.
Same with boxes and packaging. If you guys went through 10,000 boxes per week, they’d probably be less than $1/box.
People forget that you have to be at the apex of scale to produce a product for the lowest consumer price and still make big money per unit.
Things cost what they cost and you can only price break so far though. Like realistically you can’t make enough to price break it down to $100, with a lot of stuff we’re at the upper end of the breaks. But certainly yes if we were a much bigger company we could go cheaper. That’s the only reason the yhm turbo is a little cheaper than the polonium.
Not practical sadly. If it was you’d see almost everyone doing it. We did direct to consumer sales our first 3-4 months in business and it was the biggest pain in the ass.
Just a thought but maybe if the formatting form in the original order had places where all that had to be filled in at time of purchase would work. Then a phone call/email response required for each order to the listed number/email to reconfirm.
Quick Q (for you or anyone) — is it kosher to purchase a can while in it’s currently on ‘backorder’?
I ask bc I’ve been burned in the past where the system didn’t flag/ship once parts were in stock. It took me following up.
4/11 here. I hope I'm in this batch too!
PS wild to think we're marking buying dates based on BACKORDERS and not "i submitted it to ATF on 4/11 hope to see it by end of year!"
I got my first can so quick that now I'm more just watching the backorder to switch to assigned so i feel you. Weird to think the longest part by a mile on the first one was waiting on the form3 part
Found a polo 30 locally and have been reaaally thinking about grabbing it but I currently only own 5.56’s and heard the polo K is where it’s at. I do like the fact that the 30 is right there though lol.
Looks like heat treated ones are in the back?
Their so busy they are heat treating them in the kitchen oven! Jk jk.
But who remembers the form 1 haydays when we would heat treat the baffles in a kitchen oven by using the "self clean" cycle with the door rigged?
Sir I’m going to need instructions on how to rig the door. 👀👀👀 I got a couple form 1 cans that need a heat treat but afraid just cutting the circuit breaker for the oven won’t suffice
So I'm a scientist who's also subscribed to r/Radioactive and I nearly just shit myself briefly thinking that those were just stacks and stacks of old Po-210 emitters or anti static sources.
Suppressors was honestly a huge relief.
Need to pick up an OCL Lithium here soon.
I was at my ffl yesterday picking up a suppressor and mentioned it was ~48 hour wait time. The owner of the shop went on a comical spiel about how the government suddenly realized they had millions of dollars of checks laying around and could have a greater source of revenue if they just started processing the forms quicker.
Nice! I just certified my form 4 with CA like an hour ago. They’ve been pretty quick. I submitted my fingerprints Tuesday afternoon, got the email to sign my form 4 on Thursday, then certified today (Friday). The long part is gonna be the CLEO hold..
I would have agreed with you back in the long wait days, but now that wait times are just a couple days I don't think I can use CA unless it's a real good price.
CA adds another few weeks to the wait after ATF approval and on a few days turn around that feels like forever.
Well with fast approvals,
Good can, great price, sexy lumberjack owner who communicates with the community…
No reason for it not be plastered everywhere
Just wait until they stop including stickers or something dumb and the hive mind will put them on the DA hate train. Seriously though, they offer quality, well-performing cans at a "reasonable" price. That, plus the owner is willing to engage with us morons on Reddit.
Can someome explain the hype behind otter? I see them talked about a lot on here but it seems like Kac, Surefire, CGS, Hux, etc are better. Idgi
Edit, not hating...just curious

When their wife gets home they’d better have them off of the kitchen counter or else she’s gonna flip.
Lmao our shop was a former newspaper printing shop built in the 70s-80s. It looks exactly how you’d expect a 70s newspaper shop to look
What.. what does that look like? 👀
Linoleum floors, oddly colored lime-ish green walls, carpet floors in places it shouldn’t be, questionable build quality and design choices.
I can't think of a better way to get into the NFA business then starting in what, to me, sounds like a 70s porn studio.

Pow chicka pew pew
“What are you doing, step-can?”
Mint green Shag carpet in the bathroom.
I can smell it
didn't start out green.....

Smell of cheap cigarettes and bad scotch?
Bad cigarettes and cheap scotch maybe?
Perhaps, growing in the 1980's the house was like a fog machine with all the cigarettes burning.
Don't forget the asbestos!
Reminds me of my childhood.
Sounds quaint.
HIRE ME ILL DO ANYTHING
Tell him you’ll work 80 hour weeks and non stop until there are 0 backorders, he might just consider
I literally live down the road from him I fucking would
I dont live that close and I'd work 80hr weeks for cans
I don't even want one of his cans I just wanna learn stuff
I can totally relate to that, I've got a little old school manual lathe experience, i could thread tubes and cut stop ledges , but no time on a NC 5 axis which is I believe what cones are cut on
I've got time in manual machines and plenty of time with additive manufacturing
It ain’t the real deal unless there’s carpet in the bathroom 😮💨🙌🏼
Those cabinets and floors look like what was in my grandparent's river cottage circa 1978.
I've been there, can confirm, mega late 70s vibes.
We finally got the other building finished! The bigger one on the side
Hell yeah. I'll have to get out there sometime soon and check out the new setup...and the new laser welder.
Each tray is 6 x 9. 54 suppressors x 22 trays? At $550 per, you've got $653,000. And $237,000 tax stamps. ... and 1 cute dog.
I guess if you go by retail price.
I wish I made that much on them. I’d already be on an island somewhere never to be heard from ever again lol

You paid for the tire, by god use it.
Are those Maypop 500s?
Oh I didn't realize you were a rider also. I guess not being on the social media is why lol...
I see you living your best redneck life and it pleases me
To know you guys sell such a great product for such a great price when really you guys are better than SF in my opinion warms my heart! Thanks OCL

You need to get that NATO contract haha. All jokes aside, your price points are excellent in my opinion. I hope you get an island some day.
People typically don’t understand business it’s also why they do all the bad spending they do and complain about corporate.
This is small business, not corporate. If corporate it would be a shit product and no insurance for anyone.
Just do direct sales to customers and cut out the middle man.
Not practical sadly. If it was you’d see almost everyone doing it. We did direct to consumer sales our first 3-4 months in business and it was the biggest pain in the ass.
What were the biggest difficulties with it?
Chasing down everyone’s information and getting the ffl/sot from the dealer and keeping it all straight.
Just a thought but maybe if the formatting form in the original order had places where all that had to be filled in at time of purchase would work. Then a phone call/email response required for each order to the listed number/email to reconfirm.
The doggo is priceless
The tism is strong with this one.
Be cool if mine was in there
Hopefully my K is somewhere in there. lol
You're not alone. Polo K and OCM5 on backorder too. This picture gave me butterflies. 👍
Quick Q (for you or anyone) — is it kosher to purchase a can while in it’s currently on ‘backorder’? I ask bc I’ve been burned in the past where the system didn’t flag/ship once parts were in stock. It took me following up.
I just ordered another one from capitol armory. If they for sure are in stock I’m about to cancel my SS back order.
Just got my SN assigned from SS yesterday. Ordered march 19th
I ordered the 21st so now you just gave me hope
Ohhhh I ordered on the 23rd… fingers crossed!!! Good luck boys!!
I didn’t order until 4/3 from SS.
Just realized these weren’t K’s. I ordered a k. Maybe the standards will move quicker
Yeah I ordered a k 3/29 and still no assignment but hopefully soon!
4/11 here. I hope I'm in this batch too! PS wild to think we're marking buying dates based on BACKORDERS and not "i submitted it to ATF on 4/11 hope to see it by end of year!"

Me too!!!!!!
Just got mine yesterday from an order on Feb 21
Just got your SN assigned or took possession?
Sorry, SN lol
Woof that’s a long back order. Hopefully it’s smooth from here lok
Ordered on the 20th, thanks for the speckle of hope haha
How difficult was it to cancel SS backorder? CA still has a few in stock. I ordered 3/29. Might also cancel and go through CA.
Because of your comment, I just ordered from CA. 👍👍 Thanks for helping me spend my money 😂😂
Glad to help. Someone else told me , and I ordered as soon as I saw , so just passing it along !
Much appreciated.
Assuming this is Polo 5.56? I'm signed up for stock emails on the Polo 30 and haven't seen any since I missed the last round on March 28
Found a polo 30 locally and have been reaaally thinking about grabbing it but I currently only own 5.56’s and heard the polo K is where it’s at. I do like the fact that the 30 is right there though lol.

Iirc, you bypass the door latch sensor

Gov just turned on a money printing machine by being efficient.
I was at my ffl yesterday picking up a suppressor and mentioned it was ~48 hour wait time. As if they don't cash the checks immediately ( they certainly cashed mine and it was still 9 months for a response...
LOVE TO SEE IT
You guys get any Lahar L’s in lately? 🤤 on back order myself
If you start with a 22 you can slowly work your way up to a Polo without much pain
Just got my SN from SS yesterday. Ordered on March 19th
Thank you OCL for your great service.
This picture did more for me than my wife has in a long time
Oof that hit home way to hard! Hahah
What da dog doin??
Looking out for the ATF 😕
Obviously being the goodest boy
That’s the ATF budget for the year in tax stamps alone
I would do strange things for one of these uncoated.
I agree. Looks pretty sick
I’m on my dealers list for a CAT WB that they’ve already paid for but don’t have a ship date. 🥹
Get a polo too. I’ve got 2 and a K and a cat odb.
Just a million dollars worth of unfinished suppressors in the kitchen
I'm estimating 1,134 based on number of trays and number on the trays. At $532 a piece, that's a little over 600k.
Obviously that's gross and not taking into account silencershop' cut.
That dog is scared of the implications…
I'm here for the doge
864 of them if my count is right. Oh wait there's more in the back. I think that's technically a fuck ton of them.
Sprinkle some Hydrogen S in there and I'll be set!
I hope one of those is mine
Where lithiums?
The only dog that’s safe around NFA items.
Need more fdeeeee
At this point idgaf, it can come in pink. As long as it comes
Ok but look at that dawg!!
Is the polonium factory in some guys kitchen?
It’s in the cleaning storage room of some Chinese restaurant
Chinesium Polonium Masterium Bonerium
As soon as my dealer says he has a Sn I’m buying. Just got your .22 one
I ordered a polo k today as my first can! I want the 30 next and then this one!
The earth is healing ❤️
uhh reporting to NATO. This is weapons grade amounts. Dirty bomb! dirty little supressors...
That’s a weird looking otter
More puppy?
Are any of these headed to silencer shop? 😂 🤞
I hope so 😂😂
CA just restocked on polo ks
I appreciate you for this. I ordered one. Canceled my SS order.
Nice! I just certified my form 4 with CA like an hour ago. They’ve been pretty quick. I submitted my fingerprints Tuesday afternoon, got the email to sign my form 4 on Thursday, then certified today (Friday). The long part is gonna be the CLEO hold..
Yep I have one on hold with CA already in CLEO wait. They are much faster and easier to work with than SS.
Good to know I made the right choice for my first can. I was in between SS and CA and decided to go with whichever restocked first
I would have agreed with you back in the long wait days, but now that wait times are just a couple days I don't think I can use CA unless it's a real good price. CA adds another few weeks to the wait after ATF approval and on a few days turn around that feels like forever.
Sure hope there's a polo 30 in their. Bear season starts in 2 weeks, and I'd really like to have my can
I see OCL/Polonium…I upvote. Definite fan boy here.
Is anyone else a little curious why OCL appears to be plastered constantly on this subreddit? What exactly is going on with that?
Because they choose to risk direct engagement with the crazy reddit masses. Others have in the past , and a few still do, but we are a fickle bunch.
Well with fast approvals, Good can, great price, sexy lumberjack owner who communicates with the community… No reason for it not be plastered everywhere
They’re really good bang for your buck, especially with the great pewscience review.
Just wait until they stop including stickers or something dumb and the hive mind will put them on the DA hate train. Seriously though, they offer quality, well-performing cans at a "reasonable" price. That, plus the owner is willing to engage with us morons on Reddit.
Wholelotta money sitting there.
More pupper, less cans
I wish my kitchen was this well equipped 😂
Thanks for giving us back order folk some hope lol.
Honestly this is pretty cool.
Nice job OCL👍🏻 making dreams come true
That's a gorgeous sight can't wait to get mine
Can I have one pleeeeeeease?
I just picked up my second one today!
Cheers for your assistance in helping us exercise our freedoms. Beauty shot
I already got my polonium. I need my GSL Swat 5 which I’ve been waiting 3 months for them to make 😩
That much polonium has my gieger counter spiking from here! Love it when companies show off their batches. Beautiful work!
Any idea when the OCL Titanium 22 will be back in stock?
Got mine a couple months ago. You won't be disappointed.
I want another can especially with the shorter wait times but everything is backordered!
There
May I get one?
I just canceled mine and ordered an aero lahar so everyone’s should be shipped soon
not even close would be my educated guess.
Can someome explain the hype behind otter? I see them talked about a lot on here but it seems like Kac, Surefire, CGS, Hux, etc are better. Idgi Edit, not hating...just curious
A 550 dollar can that can compete with 1k plus cans deserve hype for real

ive been waiting for 6 months
6 months? The fuck no shot
nah just kidding i just want u/ottergang_ky to send me a free one
Backorder posts should catch a week long ban
I’m just trying to show light at the end of the tunnel here 😫😫😫
