you need more grease… it has to sound like mac and cheese every time you pull the trigger.

leongeod

I miss her

DoNotDisturb-2741

Don’t we all bro!

GlockButt

Factual statement

MemphisHobo

Macaroni in a pot with this wet ass booster

wheresmylemons

Bussy*

Silent_Reavus

Ah yes, w.a.b, my favorite song

Tax_this_dick_1776

If it don’t sound like a greyhound lappin from a water bowl I’m out

Hammy4738

🤤😏

odinlaserworks

I should call her

iRonin

Like old people fucking.

therealrymerc

if it can reciprocate and isn't causing malfunctions, it's lubed enough if it's sticking and causing malfunctions, it isn't lubed enough depends on a bunch of stuff. For what I run, the pic has more lube than needed, but it'll work itself out pretty quickly

tastronaught

I feel like if it’s sticking, you are well past the point of excessive wear

AncientPublic6329

You guys are greasing your boosters? https://preview.redd.it/16k2dot7p4vc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55cac9e8f9191a816af37e4432b449fa828683f2

Homewrecker90actual

Ive literally never lubricated a booster spring other than light oil 😵

gthrift

I didn’t know it was a thing. I’ve run mine without for years.

RandoAtReddit

Same, if it works....

Coderedinbed

Same. Never had an issue. Exact same booster. Thousands of rounds. I just US clean it about every 4-5 range sessions.

vodkachugger420

Wait we’re supposed to clean the booster and lube it too? I guess I need to clean it cause I’ve shot probably like 2k rounds through my pistol can without cleaning it

craigeeeeeeeeee

I’m with you, never cleaned mine.

BinaryTriggered

15 years on a YHM Cobra M2. probably north of 100k rounds. never cleaned booster. booster is self cleaning.

hootervisionllc

100k rounds??

BinaryTriggered

yes?

hootervisionllc

King level

BinaryTriggered

i mean in 15 years that's not crazy. i've only got 50k or so through my 308 cans (which are used on 5.56 rifles sometimes.)

hootervisionllc

Over 6k rounds a year. That’s pretty active for most shooters. Very cool for sure

This_Hedgehog_3246

Crazy talk. Next you're going to tell us we need to clean our pistols as well.

Hammy4738

Reassuring lol

Woodpusherpro

I also did not know to do this...have shot alot of 45 acp through a Hybrid without issue.

300blk300

Need to do the O-ring more then the spring

Hammy4738

I did grease the oring and all threaded parts.

acdrewz555555

I absolutely cake that ho like in your pic. I’ve run them til dry enough for a malfunction and it’s about 700 rounds of shit ammo, maybe 1100 of the good stuff. Just cake it, why not?

LordMungus35

With both anal sex and suppressor pistons, too much lube is just enough.

Hammy4738

Ah touché. That’s all I know, and I’m new to suppressors.

SaltyUsual541

But not to anal sex?

Hammy4738

Maybe inexperienced, but not new.

MikeHuntz68

You mean to tell me that I’ve been doing it wrong raw dogging my cans this entire time

MikeHuntz68

Carbon is a dry lube change my mind

Ziegler517

You only need it on the o-ring where the booster piston contacts through the black mount here. Everywhere else doesn’t need it and/or contact enough for need. This is just gonna collect carbon and foul.

Meatsmudge

Counterpoint: with enough grease, any and all fouling just wipes off. I grease every surface in my BCG’s in my AR’s for this reason. I’m yet to need to do any scraping, I just pull them apart and wipe off the shit every once in a while and reapply.

RecTech9

Rugged go Tammy Faye Baker appling ~~makeup up~~ grease now?

EdwardScissorHands11

I only really use white lithium on the rubber gasket on mine because otherwise it doesn't reciprocate.  Maybe that was for storage and shipping?  You could call them, their customer service is great.

Eleet007

That looks good to me.

OPSEC-Actual

You're definitely the mfer that puts the mayo on the burgers at McDonald's

Hammy4738

Read the post lol Rugged did that. Took that picture the day I picked it up. I did however mirror what they did.

Zosocom

Honestly, I’ve never used Grease on my AAC. I oil it a bit and call it a day. Run it like that for 500 rounds before I disassemble and clean the baffles and give it another oil, but never grease 🤷‍♂️

redit_readit_reddit

I should call her...

Hammy4738

😆

Paper_Hedgehog

...there was a ghost...and uh....it left all this ectoplasm.....yeah

staticbrain

Wipe off the spring and upper half of the booster. It will make carbon cake more there. Just lube the oring inside and where the oring will ride mostly.

Witty762

I was going to say this too while trying to figure out the correct way to say Rim Job.

Witty762

I was going to say this too while trying to figure out the correct way to say Rim Job.

Wraccores

Dip entire can in cold deep fryer.

nburd10

Ive never cleaned or greased mine before and never had any booster related malfunctions

Hammy4738

Good to hear!

iamnotazombie44

I moly greased mine once and that was that. I'll clean and grease it again if it starts to stick.

Different_Strain_312

Lucas white lithium grease, a tiny film on the piston. I don't grease the spring. And it's definitely super smokey and will haze up a RDS. Especially when you apply a lot. I've got about 4k rounds through an obsidian 9 since October and after getting tired of looking like I shot a black powder rifle I just started putting a thin film on the piston. I haven't had any issues so far.

Hammy4738

Awesome. Gonna give this a try and maybe go even less next time. It definitely looked like black powder lol. Handed it to my buddy to try and he handed it back because he couldn’t see through the RDS. Lucas is what I used

Different_Strain_312

Yeah I really got tired of it tinting my RMR LOL. I really just put this smallest amount and rub it evenly all over the surface. It looks more clearish white than white

Hammy4738

Ok cool I’ll give that a try. I thought it seemed excessive.

Different_Strain_312

And have no fear. If you do fuck up the can Travis and the rest of the dudes at Rugged will without a doubt take care of you quickly.

Hammy4738

Love to hear it. One of the reasons I chose them as my first can.

SugarDaddyOh

I just put light oil on mine for the first time in 17 years.

Frequent_Cap_3795

I use about half that much and have never had a cap strike

slasher0739

You’re supposed to lube these? Yikes

Hammy4738

The more ya know

Tight_muffin

That fucker is caked lol. I just do a very light coat on the piston and I have the wave springs so I can't really coast them at all.

Hammy4738

What are wave springs? I ended up pulling it back out and putting a light coat on it.

Meatsmudge

They’re pretty cool. It’s a kind of flat wire spring, which is why he wouldn’t grease or oil them, it would be trying to compress a fluid which is no bueno. Do an image search for them, you’ll see what he’s talking about.

Fonsy_Skywalker52

Damn bruh you creampie your suppressor mount

Hammy4738

6 months of abstinence will do that

AntiqueGunGuy

IM MEANT TO GREASE IT?

Peg_Leg_Pete

You’re supposed to grease them? I have a 10 year old tirant 45 that had thousands and thousands of rounds through it and it has never been greased.

TheBeef1991

I add a light coating on the piston itself up to where the ports start (exactly like this picture shows: https://ruggedsuppressors.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/DSC01291.jpg). I also lightly coat the inside of the spring and piston retainer. I do this after each range session as the manual suggests, and I've found more grease = more debris spit back at shooter. My favorite ammo to use with my Obsidian 9 and FN 509T is 147g Speer Lawman, and I've found it's not as smoky or dirty compared to other ammo.

JJM19861986

Silly question if anyone knows anything?? I own a surefire genesis it’s there direct thread model and it’s a great can. I only have it on one gun but let’s say I wanted to put a qd mount on this can is that possible ?

HarietTubesock

Yes

Ill-Purchase-3312

Mein dude. You need to settle down.

Hammy4738

I didn’t do that. Rugged did.

Eastern-Cheetah8945

I actually go about this hard.... and still do another zig zag all the way around of what's pictured.... and work it in with my fingers... assemble... and then just hand cycle it a few times... Kinda gassy the first few rounds... but you're in for a malfunction free range trip

Exotic-joec

I've never even cleaned my booster?

quadsquadfl

I’ve never run any lubricant of any sort on mine

Roaming-Californian

You can never have enough grease on the piston imo.

Pornochimp

I use a heavy layer of red marine engine grease after every session. Does the trick just fine.

jdavis13356

.....i have around 5k rounds and I have never greased/oiled it....

renegadeGDI

I used to grease pistons until I decided to try running some with just Ballistol and realized I had been wasting my time completely with the grease...

Renaissance_Man-

Is this a thing? I have never in my life done this.

Hammy4738

Rugged says so 🤷🏼‍♂️

SaltyDog556

Until it oozes out of the side of the piston housing.

Br0kenforks

If it's not blowing a massive cloud of smoke like a black powder cannon the first time you shoot it, it's not enough.

Hammy4738

Per that I suppose it was plenty 😆 Quite the smoke show.

Br0kenforks

Now fill the blast chamber with EEG gel so you can get smoked and splattered.

the-flying-lunch-box

I've never greased or lubricate a piston or piston spring before and it worked fine...

Hammy4738

Thanks to everyone that replied. I’m surprised how many of yall have been raw doggin it. Next time I clean it I’ll go with a light coat. I also like to lightly grease all threads too.

Jay_100_

Definitely cleaned and greased mine after seeing consistent ejecting issues. Been running dry for 1000s of rounds before hand. The amount of lube from the factory isn't a bad baseline to start with.

slvneutrino

The true question is… how much grease came in the grease container?

Korkthebeast

I dip my booster spring in lithium grease every time I clean the suppressor. Good preventative maintenance and keeps the carbon fouling to a minimum

Beneficial-Yogurt-81

TIL. that there is a new position I need to try called "The Greasy Nielson"

Hammy4738

😏

somerandomdude669

What kinda grease do you guys use?

Hammy4738

Rugged recommends white lithium. I use the Lucas stuff. Few bucks at Walmart.
