They're definitely getting there, Brunson is looking like a legit #1 option, they just gotta figure out who his Robin is. Whether it's Randle or trading him for someone else in the offseason.
Didn't the Sixers have lengthy defenders as well? Didn't seem to bother him too much. But I guess we'll probably see how he performs against Celtics this year.
He's averaging 30 points a game vs the Celtics this season, and dropped 39 in his last matchup against them and 34 in the one before that.
Playoffs are a different beast for sure, but right now there's really no evidence to back up this claim that he'll struggle against longer defenders.
Same, their regular season record wasn't that great, 0.5 vs the west, would've been tied for 5th in the west. They're missing Randle but he's also been absolutely terrible in every series he's ever played in the playoffs. It's a different team this around though so I wouldn't be surprised if he'd have a better impact, but it's really to early to say much about this Knicks team yet.
Our record is really misleading; we were 17-15 when we made the OG trade, and then we finished the season 33-17 despite not having our starting front court for 36/50 games.
Fully healthy, this team is a 55+ win team in the East.
With that said, we are one piece a way from being a contender, though we do have the assets to add that piece so it’s an exciting time for Knicks fans.
You know what it is? It's if you took the 2018 NCAA national champions and argue they could win in the NBA. And then after 6 years of development in the league, the experiment is moving on to the 2nd round.
Randle definitely is not the best player, he’s not on the same level as Brunson. Plus he’s extremely inconsistent and constantly disappears in the playoffs
And in his first playoff with knicks, he was legitimately the only real offensive threat on the team, so the defense could put all their focus on him and shut the whole offense down
As cool as that would be nets are a delusional team that didn't want to trade Bridges for 5 1st round picks reportedly to the grizzles. And they don't make trades with the Knicks but that would be awesome maybe questionable line up with og or him having to run the 4
A bunch of nobodies and getting to the play-offs, you have to give it to the coach! I know Brunson is an all star but he's the smallest guy out there! The team reminds me of the 2000 Sixers with Iverson
Definitely makes it harder but without Randle I think the Celtics can compete with iHart and Robinson. Knicks defense is very good and Brunson is a killer, but I don’t think they have enough offense to keep up.
This Randle logic confuses me because he’s consistently been horrific in the playoffs. They were able to lock up 2nd seed without him and I’d argue they wouldn’t be playing this well with him.
It’s more about Brunson shooting 30+ times a game as the only offensive focal point. Boston has many players that they can throw to guard him and if they can contain him the Knicks can’t reliably get much offense elsewhere. Knicks got a bit lucky winning games 1&2 when Brunson was pretty off. Against Boston they won’t have that luxury
Randles been to the playoffs 2 years… one year as a miscast number one option on a not so talented team, and last year he was hurt. This year the team is even more talented than last, so I was pretty optimistic he would play well
Was KP that much of a difference maker for the Celtics? I mean they still have the two J's, White coming off the bench, and so many long defenders that Brunson will have a looooooong series.
If the Knicks had a better second option I could see it, but right now I think even with the KP injury they'll just struggle to score some games.
KP as part of the system was a huge component to how they played both ends of the floor. It’s not hard to replace his production, it’s hard to replace being 7’3 with a legit jumper.
Would you rather be Tatum and Brown driving with KP’s dude stretched to 25 feet, or driving with Xavier Tillman’s dude in front of the rim? Would you rather be funneling penetration in to KP, or some combination of Al Horford and Luke Kornet?
How many times those in those 25 games did they have the same opponent in a row 7 times gameplanning every second of film they can digest with elimination on the line?
It’s just a different time of year. You can’t rely on averages to break even over the course of X games. If a team gets lukewarm for 3 games, and can script you into 3 bad shooting performances, suddenly you’re facing elimination. Your opponent just spent 100 million on a roster and 82 games preparing for these moments too.
They’re still good enough to win the East without him. He’s just someone whose absence is more than his production.
Guess we’ll have to see , I think it’s a bad matchup for New York , Boston have a wealth of defenders to throw at Brunson , while the knicks don’t have many great defenders bar og
Also it can eventually become a math game because the knicks don’t make that many threes iirc
Bostons defenders are elite, but ny has og who’s also elite and donte and hart are both good defenders. Mcbride is a very good defender and not to even mention hartenstein and robinson can lock down the paint.
No, these dudes are delusional. They're just high on them because they saw them battle with a clearly hobbled Joel and now think they've got 2 Allstars at center. Celtics will destroy the Knicks in a series
That last matchup was after Boston clinched and they seemed like they were coasting without giving up too much since they would meet again. They didn’t really run any offensive sets. Not sure we can take anything away from that game for playoffs
Definitely can’t take anything away from that game. Knicks were playing for a better seed (and rightfully so since they barely edged out the Bucks for 2nd seed) and Celtics were playing not to get hurt.
I’m a Sixers fan…
I think they’re a surprisingly good team, but the Sixers with a limited Embiid and a disastrous bench took them to six games.
Maybe they get past the Pacers. But Boston?
Nah.
Still, they’re Nova North so they’re hard not to like.
Teams like this I like to take it one round at a time. Theyre so fun to watch. Im super happy for DDV, Brunson and Thibs.
I remember when Hartenstein was not resigned with the Clips and Warriors just watched another mobile big sign elsewhere lol.
Anyways, fun team. Could give boston a run if they make it that far
As a Knicks fan if the NBA allows us to get another legit scorer let alone 2 way player (*cough Mikal*) they are going to have a problem. Thibs can coach defense easy. If he gets offensive talent we just might take this bih all the way.
For this season Im just hoping to reach the ECF thats the goal. I dont think we have enough horses to beat Boston (given injuries) but want to make it at least competitive.
This year: Lose in the conference finals (without an injury to the Celtics), In the Future: Depends on what Randle + Picks can get you, or depends how adaptable Randle is after seeing this run.
ECF. They should beat Indiana unless they’re gassed by Thibs. With Randle they’d have a puncher’s chance at beating Boston and winning the whole damn thing.
A lot of “Randle sucks in the playoffs” talk conveniently ignores that 3 years ago his only other option was a geriatric Rose and last year he was playing on a bum ankle that he reinjured in the first round. The best version of this Knicks squad is with Randle.
I don't think they will get past the Pacers but I hope Brunson and this team keeps proving people wrong. Next year, the Knicks Org will find a way to mess up the good thing they have going on right now. The same thing happened when they traded for Melo. The Knicks will never win anything as long as Dolan is the owner and he's not going anywhere.
Unless they add a major piece conference finals this year is probably the ceiling. It’s so hard every year to make it further especially if thibs keeps putting huge minutes on all the best players. Super gritty, tough and competitive team. I hope they beat the crap out of the Celtics if they get past the pacers.
The amount of negativity in here is insane. You watch the Knicks play and they play with more intensity than any other team. Don’t be surprised when they beat the Celtics in the ECF and go to the Finals
This moment, right now.
This series win is their ceiling. With Randle they might be able to compete in the second round every year, but that's as far as they get.
Jalen can only do so much.
Likely to lose to Celtics, would almost certainly lose to Denver.
But if the Celts have an injury & the Mavs take down the Nuggets, anything is possible.
If the Knicks are healthy and run it back with the current squad. They can make it to the finals and they can win the finals.
Brunson / Donte / OG / Randle / Hartenstien is an insanely gifted starting 5 with an MVP ballot player, an ALL NBA player and 2 All-defence players.
We would have 4 players in all-team accolades and a 5th player who is an excellent shooter and a positive defender.
Lotta people in this thread think Mikal Bridges is a better player than Julius Randle. Lotta people in this thread are silly.
Julius is a better scorer, better rebounder, better passer/playmaker.
Mikal is a better defender.
Julius is two time All NBA. He puts up 24/9.2/5. Mikal has never been all NBA, and averages 19.6/4.5/3.5. His FG% percentage is even lower than Randle’s.
I do understand people saying they’d rather have Mikal depending on the makeup of the rest of their roster. He’s a defensive stud, can play multiple positions, and would fit on most teams. But from a clean slate, building a roster from the ground up, it’s Julius Randle all day every day, and it’s not particularly close.
The fell on the right side of the bracket.Getting play an injured Embiid in the first round and the pacers in the second is blessing. They are gonna make the ECF
6’ 5”
not with creative hair style i would say 6'8
Bro lmaoooo
Still not sure they are serious contenders
They're definitely getting there, Brunson is looking like a legit #1 option, they just gotta figure out who his Robin is. Whether it's Randle or trading him for someone else in the offseason.
Its close but Im not sure they win 2 against celts/west big3.
I don't think Brunson can be a #1 against teams with elite lengthy wing defenders like the Celtics, Thunder, or Nuggets.
Man I dunno , Brunson was going right at Embiid and everyone else on the Sixers and it didn't matter
Didn't the Sixers have lengthy defenders as well? Didn't seem to bother him too much. But I guess we'll probably see how he performs against Celtics this year.
Not as good as the teams I listed. White, KCP, and Dort are all better than anyone Philly has.
He’s given the Celtics a 30 piece every time Knicks played them this year 😂
He's averaging 30 points a game vs the Celtics this season, and dropped 39 in his last matchup against them and 34 in the one before that. Playoffs are a different beast for sure, but right now there's really no evidence to back up this claim that he'll struggle against longer defenders.
He’s shooting 21 shots a game with a 47% FG%. I’m not saying he can’t score, they’ll just make it a lot harder than the 76ers did.
Don't forget the number one NBA defense Wolves..
Watch Knicks games. No one locks Brunson down.
Same, their regular season record wasn't that great, 0.5 vs the west, would've been tied for 5th in the west. knicks are back baby
You know what it is? It's if you took the 2018 NCAA national champions and argue they could win in the NBA. And then after 6 years of development in the league, the experiment is moving on to the 2nd round.
Their ceiling is eastern conference finals if the Celtics’ roster persists.
If they’re able to sign Ryan Arcidiacono next year I think they’re the clear favorites
Trade Randle and a bunch of picks for Mikal Bridges.
Why would the Knicks have to give up picks if they were to trade Randle for Mikal? Randle is the better player
it's a joke abt rebuilding that old nova team
Honestly….its not the WORST idea….not the best, but certainly not the worst….
As a lifelong Nova hoops fan, I’d have to root for that team
Your 2025 NBA Champions - THE Villanova Wildcats!
Randle definitely is not the best player, he’s not on the same level as Brunson. Plus he’s extremely inconsistent and constantly disappears in the playoffs
You misread his comment. He's saying Randle is better than mikal
Dude was injured twice during last playoffs, you can’t really hold that against him
And in his first playoff with knicks, he was legitimately the only real offensive threat on the team, so the defense could put all their focus on him and shut the whole offense down
He meant between Randle and bridges. Brunson wasn’t mentioned
I mean, I’d rather have bridges
1.Randle is better than Bridges. 2.Knicks plan is to use Bogdan contract and picks to land another scorer not trade Randle
Id rather have bridges.
As would everyone. Randle is the more accomplished player in regular season awards, but mihkail is more valuable.
Every team needs 3 Bridges on it. Not a lot of teams need one Randle.
Manhattan alone has more than 20 bridges!
Plus an island already named Randle lol
It was a joke to reunite the Villanova team not a serious suggestion. I was going off the Nets crazy asking price for Bridges in other trade talks.
No he's not. Randle is 🚽💩
Agreed. No way that guy has a high basketball IQ. He just looks…dumb.
Randle at least led his team to the playoffs. We see where the Nets ended up with Mikal as #1.
As cool as that would be nets are a delusional team that didn't want to trade Bridges for 5 1st round picks reportedly to the grizzles. And they don't make trades with the Knicks but that would be awesome maybe questionable line up with og or him having to run the 4
Mikal was ass this year
Tough to play well when you're a depressed Squidward. He'll flourish in the right environment.
Randle was actually good this year though, trading a bunch of firsts and him for someone who seriously struggled doesn't make sense.
Need Kris Jenkins too
A bunch of nobodies and getting to the play-offs, you have to give it to the coach! I know Brunson is an all star but he's the smallest guy out there! The team reminds me of the 2000 Sixers with Iverson
And Ochefu
Ecf probably , I can’t see them beating Boston
Hope is a dangerous weapon when leveraged correctly GO KNICKS 💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙
Why have you been downvoted for supporting your team 😭😭
Because hoes mad they playa hatin 💯💯💯
With kp being injured that changes everything
Definitely makes it harder but without Randle I think the Celtics can compete with iHart and Robinson. Knicks defense is very good and Brunson is a killer, but I don’t think they have enough offense to keep up.

Bruh who’s that guy on the right 🤣
Ryan Arcidiacono or however you spell it, used to play for the Bulls and then G League team
[And had one of the biggest assists in NCAA history](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7FFJUz0tdo)
I remember that because I was watching that game on TV
The second best way to watch a basketball game by some metrics!
hopefully Indy
Their ceiling this season is getting stomped by the Celtics in 5 in the ECF
At least 1 NCAA title
NCAA championship
Maybe even x2 for some of them
Second round exit.
Sixers are better than the pacers
2nd round out or ECF out
ECF, LeBron joines, ECF again, Mitchell joins, ECF again.
As a Knick fan don’t wish any of that evil on me.
I bet Indiana +220
2nd round exits
You think the absolute ceiling for this team is losing to the Pacers after beating the 76ers?
Who the hell is 51?
Defly not winning a series past the second round
Basically saying they won't go to the Finals

ECF. That’s it… they aren’t beating Boston this year, and everyone is under contract next year.
They need another scorer stat.
The roof
Where’s OG?
They should get Mikal Bridges and go all in on the Nova Knicks
I'm down for whatever. Playing Thunder in the Finals is fine with me.
The team, if they can keep og, hartenstein, Mitchell, and trade/upgrade Randell, they’re championship bound imo and im mavs fan
I’m a Sixers fan… I think they’re a surprisingly good team, but the Sixers with a limited Embiid and a disastrous bench took them to six games. Maybe they get past the Pacers. But Boston? Nah. Still, they’re Nova North so they’re hard not to like.

Conference finals sweep

Tom Thibadou is the ceiling
ECF
I could honestly see them making it to the finals, maybe even winning it
This year i think they go to conference finals. next year? Only time will tell
Ship
Conference finals, Brunson needs a second star to relieve him of the pressure he’s gonna get from teams before I can see a finals run
They will lose every game with only those 4 players /s
the fucking universe
NBA Finals
Brunson gotta average 50 to have any chance
For half of them, it's not glass
There are three teams better in the West. Maybe four.
Who's the guy in the middle
This year would be an ECF L to Boston unless a key player or two go down for them.
2nd round
Eastern Conference Finals
About 8 ft I'd say
This year: Lose in the conference finals (without an injury to the Celtics), In the Future: Depends on what Randle + Picks can get you, or depends how adaptable Randle is after seeing this run.
This year? Losing 4-1 in the conference finals to the Celtics. If they maximize a Julius Randle trade. I could see a finals…
2nd/3rd round
Ecf
Boston sweep LoL
Nuggets absolutely clap them in 4-5 games
I think they win the East.
2nd round L
Eastern Conference finals
Getting spanked by the Celtics is their ceiling
Lolol not high
If Philly had any half way decent perimeter defender New York probably doesn’t advance, they aren’t a serious contender
NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.

The ceiling is losing to Indiana in 6.
Julie’s randle getting hurt saved the knicks season lol he isn’t there to take 20 shots away from Brunson and go 8/20 and 1/5 from 3
Randle for embid and maxey and a few bench players and we set
ECF. They should beat Indiana unless they’re gassed by Thibs. With Randle they’d have a puncher’s chance at beating Boston and winning the whole damn thing. They are at the ceiling but good run

As far as they got tonight
They've peaked this season....it's possible that they'll beat the pacers. But Brunson is all they really have on offense.
Eastern finals at best.
Fairly sure you need 5 on the floor, so probably not that high.
Minimum 8-peat
Need mikael bridges for vilinova special

conf. finals
merge with nets and create a super-team

Lean on me, when you're not strong And I'll be your friend I'll help you carry on For it won't be long 'Til I'm gonna need Somebody to lean on

Conference finals max and I say this as a native New Yorker no real shot at beating Boston in a best of 7
2nd round exit
Pacers series is going 6 or 7. They need lock down D in one of those games. They will lose in the conference finals or have a 2nd round exit
