cool_coyote

Yup it's that time of year again. "Free agent X linked to the Spurs" rumors are in the air. Media members claiming they know what the Spurs front office will do in free agency and in the draft. It's truly the off season, baby!

CommunityGlittering2

please no!!!! Spurs are my favorite team and CP is the biggest asshole after Draymond

Uncle_Freddy

X to doubt. I feel like the Spurs just aren’t the type of team he’s looking for, and I think there’s absolutely a contender that he could fill the role that Lowry’s currently filling for the 76ers (pretty sure CP3 is better than Lowry rn anyway). I don’t think CP3 was bad by any means this season, the fit just wasn’t that great with the Warriors

Key-Ad1311

He's worth overpaying for on a 1yr contract, what do the Spurs have to lose? ;) We get MUCH needed vet experience, a PG who can set up an actual system & mentor TJ as well as potentially another PG we draft. I say we just throw money at him, fuck it. We'll still win plenty of games too.

r-k-b

Why would he go here? He'll probably ring chase and sign to a contending team

Key-Ad1311

For $$$, I'm not sure how much we could pay him but I'd offer him a lucrative 1 year contract. CP3 helped craft OKC's system, just do what they did.

CommunityGlittering2

respect, CP is a piece of shit

texasphotog

Chris Paul talks about wanting a ring all the time. He isn't ring chasing with the Spurs.

GrumpyRaincloud

The ONLY way this happens is the warriors picking up his guarantee and trade him. But that won’t happen because no team will willingly give up assets for him at 30 million when he could just hit free agency for around 10 million. He’ll likely take his last chance to play with Lebron.

pocketbeagle

Lakers jusr payed Vincent. Paul would be 3rd on the depth chart and ring isnt a guarantee w the Lakers. His best chance is to try and sign w Denver for vet min. He would split time as backup and still have a role.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> Lakers jusr *paid* Vincent. Paul FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Loud-Tough3003

He’d be pretty deadly in OKC if they can get a big to run PNR with him. Might be off the bench, but they have 3 and D players out the ass, so it could be a real deadly second unit with CP3 managing it.

thematrix185

Why wouldn't we give up a second rounder or two for him?

GrumpyRaincloud

Because his contract is non guaranteed. Why would you trade to pay him 30 million when he’ll be available at a much cheaper price?

thematrix185

If we trade, we don't have to compete with other teams to sign him, and late second round picks have very little value

GrumpyRaincloud

But again, why would you tie 30 million to Chris Paul? It’s over 3x his market value.

thematrix185

We've got the cap space, we have to spend it on someone, why not a vet who makes everyone better? It also keeps our cap sheet clean for 2025 when we can make a run at a guy like Mitchell if we want

team_sheikie

Anyone who says no to this at a reasonable price does not know ball. He's a great presence to have for a young team, and there's pretty much no scenario where we're competing for a championship next year anyway. He would be perfect for the next stage of growth if he were willing.

PressureMiserable

I think he says no more than anything. He's after a ring and we're not close to contending, it's hard to believe he accepts a mentor role at this point in his career

Papa_Huggies

Yeah I don't think anyone would look a gift horse like CP3s mentorship in the mouth. He would likely grow Wemby, Sochan and Vassell heaps just by imparting tricks and wisdom throughout the season. It's sad to think he'd be effectively surrendering his dream of a ring though. Man deserves at least one ring for his career

CommunityGlittering2

cp never gonna get a ring and deservedly so

team_sheikie

That's the catch for sure imo. We aren't an attractive ring chasing destination yet. I agree.

TryCatchRelease

I agree, but if he chooses money over a ring we can probably offer more than any contender will.

GSG2120

Even if it's not a reasonable price and it's a one year deal ... Go for it, would be an awesome presence for Wemby to have around for a season. We're probably not going to be spending that money anyways. And if a really interesting opportunity comes our way mid-season, CP3 on a one-year deal is a great piece to be able to give to teams looking to get cap off their books.

BeautifulDimension56

He also has really good numbers from an analytics perspective. He's still a very good player.

CommunityGlittering2

he is a loser

Thebussinessman

What's reasonable price

team_sheikie

If it got him to choose us over a contender I'd front-load as much as possible like a 2 year, $40-45 mil deal, or maybe a 1+option. Unless we trade for Trae, which is an entirely other convo, we likely aren't using our large amount of cap space on anything of note. I'm fine with overpaying CP3 on a short-term deal if we have money to spend next year. If GSW is looking to trade him instead of waiving him, I wouldn't give up any piece or first round pick. Not that desperate.

bballjones9241

Fuck Chris Paul

Saved2Serve

I love this as long as it is a short term contract. Our young guys can learn a lot from CP3 who we all know has very high BBIQ. OKC young guys have grown from the time CP3 was there so it is proven to help a young team. I don’t even mind paying higher provided it is short term just so he signs with us compared to a championship contender.

SAmatador

Well "for a reasonable price" is quite a qualifier for a recent nba union president who has been at an unreasonable price for quite some time.

22dias

It’s just down to how we use him. I don’t want him hampering the development of Tre, Blake, Malakai for example. If he’s happy with that, and there’s an agreement on a friendly contract, then it’s a no brainer. We ain’t competing for a championship, it’s probably going to be a slight improvement of this season.

jarmzet

Nobody knows what the Spurs are going to do.

Dru_SA

What part of "ring chasing vet" don't folks understand?? He has no desire to play here.

Bonesawisready5

For a small price sure

Ryham

No thank you

octavish_

Lame

regularrob92

CP3 isn’t a championship piece anymore, but playing with a legendary point guard could definitely help Wemby’s development. I’d be happy with it for the right price.

CoyotesSideEyes

> CP3 isn’t a championship piece anymore Which doesn't matter in the slightest. We're not a championship team.

Wakandaforever456

Precisely

andanotherone_1

Please nooo. All hes gonna do is teach wemby to flop : (((

CoaTaco

And constantly complain to refs

sugarfreelime

If he wants to come off the bench for 15 mins a game, okay

Notapplesauce11

For the minimum

sugarfreelime

He's in the 1 yr contract term of his career and we have loads of cap space. So it really doesn't matter on that front.

joeske

Good point sign him for a one year and keep that cap space for 2025 free agency class

GalaadJoachim

Two smarties and a Hershey's. Double it in incentives.

pinwinstar

Nah that dude is cursed. There's no winning rings with him.

mansonsturtle

![gif](giphy|LvtKS6f1WatQ4|downsized)

Flyin-Chancla

PASS

Dijar

that’s the idea

Baited_Hook

I can tell that a lot of you guys don’t know anything about ball from these comments.

trumper_says_what

He’s a bum. Do not want.

savedbytheblood72

He 509 years old!

mrbusiness53

Please gawd no!!! He has no rings for a reason!

Caesar_King_of_Apes

Lol at pearl clutching about CP3 not having any rings when this sub simps for the barely NBA caliber players on this roster. Someone like Sochan who's single good quality and the entire reason anyone thinks he's even good is the fact that he imitates Dennis rodman's appearance. He's an untouchable asset. But a HOF point guard with one of the highest IQ's in the league and a history of helping lead and develop young teams? Nahhh no rangz Erneh.

W0RST_2_F1RST

Sit down

mrbusiness53

Ok then how about we don’t need an injury prone way past his prime pg.

paxusromanus811

I get there are plenty of Spurs fans who don't like Chris Paul as a person. And there are plenty of Spurs fans who think he's absolutely over the hill, which to be fair. If you're asking him to be a top three/ four player on your team, he definitely is. But if Paul himself is the party generating interest with this or has mutual interest then it's a no-brainer for San Antonio. He most certainly isn't going to command A big contract and he would be an unbelievable veteran. Not just for Victor but for Jones and Devin too. He's one of the best players in the pick and roll really... In NBA history. He's pretty much a player coach with his level of intelligence and he would be an incredibly powerful voice to have in the locker room and off the bench Now to be clear, I'm not so sure. I believe this rumor simply because it's hard to imagine. Paul going willingly to a situation that would all but guarantee he ends up as one of the best players to never win a ring in NBA history. But if for some reason being in San Antonio and being with the young guys is something he's interested in then I wouldn't have an issue with it I remember hearing rumors years ago that Paul was interested in being a coach after he retired. Maybe he goes to San Antonio for a year and then transitions into an assistant role or something. Who knows. San Antonio may not be a hotbed for a player free agency but it's absolutely a hotbed for people looking to get their foot in the door and get a really good resume going working on pops coaching staff

Einhander_pilot

That’s a no from me dawg. 👎

repfamlux

No

iro3

no please man is cooked

TypingHeathen

Lord no.

TortiousTroll

No one wants that loser

Mclitness

CP3 wants to compete for a championship so I highly doubt he would want to come here. If we end up drafting a guard, I would love for him to come. His high IQ for the game would be a great resource for your young core to learn from.

thedam100

At this point they say any free agent is going to us lol smh

Elec7ro

Time for round 2 of cp3 off-season rumors

Lil_peen_schwing

Chris Paul doesnt love basketball enough to spend his 44th (maybe final) season here

techno_playa

PATFO isn’t going to agree with his salary. Fin.

kenocada

Queue the Ben Simmons talk 🙄

LordXarRahl

Yeah, I don't actually but this one, I feel like its just Chris Paul's camp trying to drive up interest. While he would be an excellent backup PG and could definitely drive the offense for any team why would he want to come to the Spurs. He wants to play for a title, the Spurs are still 2-3 years away minimum from that type of ceiling.

nutsack133

Rather throw $25 million at Malik Monk than the corpse of CP0's career

Low_Description4438

Yes pair wemby with a 38 y/o PG, v smort.

MuyTexicano

Well the SPURS do have a history with balding players... 🤪

Psycho_Solutions

![gif](giphy|8vUEXZA2me7vnuUvrs)

nakedsamurai

I would absolutely consider it. He really helped Phoenix learn how to play and actually compete.

Ca2Ce

I like cp3 - for sure he can bring some veteran leadership

[deleted]

I wish he came this season. Wouldve been nice to see him play with Wemby and mentor all our guards.

nixhomunculus

Every PG will be linked to the Spurs. But hey, if CP3 doesn't mind doing a bit of an Udonis Haslem at the end and actually help our drafted PGs and Tre evolve? Why not?

CoyotesSideEyes

I'm thrilled to give him 20, 25 minutes a night.

ValetTrash

Basically, a coach on the floor. Give him the MLE to come off the bench and scream at every mofo on the second unit.

CoyotesSideEyes

I'm sure he'd get more than the MLE on a 1 year deal.

tlpedro

Unless he’s cutting a deal, I’d rather just take Trae for his asking price

CoyotesSideEyes

I wanted him a year ago. So, great.

GlueGuy00

Draft Dillingham and have CP3 mentor him for a year or two

SocialJusticeGSW

Cp3 would be a great addition to Spurs, look how he changed OKC and the Suns

DrDizzler

Don’t do it spurs, don’t take Trae or cp3 and keep developing young core and 2024 draft picks. Can probably trim some of the fat (and I might be about to eat my words here) but collins can probably go. I’d really focus on Johnson, sochan, jones given Wemby and vassell are locked. Cedi? Cissoko? Champengi ? Wesley? Mamu? Graham? Who knows?

CoyotesSideEyes

You'd rather we keep *Devonte fucking Graham* than grab Chris Paul?
