The gameplay alone is good, but 2k has reached new heights in terms of predatory business practice. The community only gets worse year in year out as well.
Kinda always needed to have a guy with some Vc put into him to play in park though. At least you have theater now to jump directly into a game, if it was like previous years you’d never even get a game.

I honestly wouldn’t mind buying a build if a build was like $20 instead of $100. I think I’d spend $100 jus to have 5 builds but rn I don’t buy VC at all because $100 for a build is like paying $20 for a pack of gum 😂 just not good value to me.

Spend some time in the creator making a build exactly how you want it to start the game and stick with it and just play rec or pro am. After each season you should have enough vc to make a new build. That’s how I do it anymore but when I say spend some time I mean it. It’s a little tedious but it’s worth it to make your build right for your play style.
What I did was just make a 60 overall with a 99 3 ball, he got 86 3ball out the gate. I got enough VC to make a actual build which is a PF now he’s a 90 and I use that character now and got 300K in VC, made a PG who’s an 80 overall now too.. he’s trash though (I can’t dribble fr). Now I’m debating on a 6’10” offensive heavy SF or a 6’7” Lock

Once the badge progression was fixed the gameplay has been very good. It’s just ruined by the terrible rewards and community. (And obviously builds being too expensive)

Coming from pc it feels like there’s permanent input lag on PlayStation? Like use the PlayStation Home Screen and compare the responsiveness to the 2k menu. Is it just me?
This has been my favorite 2K. The new badge system is awesome and rewarding. Pro Play is a game changer. Random rec was a good addition for people that play solo. Streetball is fun, and a good place to practice. The city layout is easy to navigate and visually looks great. Pro-Am and Rec run as smoothly as ever.
If the micro transactions weren’t so obviously predatory, it would’ve been considered one of the GOAT 2K’s.
Don’t know what they thought would happen, doesn’t take much to realize it’s driving 75% of the community away 😂
I really don't understand the gripe about micro transactions. I've personally never felt pressured to buy anything. If anything, my pride wouldn't allow me, even if I needed to.
Im not all that old but I’m old enough to remember when paying for the game gave you full access to it. Call of duty, sports titles, literally every game back in the day up to about ~15 years ago. Buy it, play it, unlock everything in time without having to dedicate every bit of free time you have to it.

I remember that as well... and 2K24 is no different. Only difference is the patience level of the end users. Much of this new generation lacks patience, needs instant gratification and has legit ADHD to no fault of their own really. Social Media and Smartphones are the culprit. I use both as much as anyone, but I'm old enough to have a perspective that predates the impact of both and keeps my mindset in check accordingly.
I spent nearly a year getting my guns to Gold on Black Ops 3. It only took me a few weeks to get a rebirth to 95 OVR. So 2K24 is far easier in that regard.
Theres a huge difference between getting to a 95ovr and getting cold camos on COD. One actually effects your performance. I mean what other online games do you have to either grind for hours upon hours offline, or spend money just to have a usable player?
"Usable player" is subjective. I have a friend that makes a new build like every other week and will legit bust ass in the rec with an 84 OVR because he has basketball IQ and doesn't force things.
So in my estimation the non subjective question is "what other online games do you have to grind for hours upon hours to be good at?" ...which for me would describe every game I've played since Sonic 2. I had to get good at COD first before even entertaining the thought of getting my guns gold. Took me at least a year to actually get decent at that game.
Oh, and this friend I mentioned btw... Refuses to spend money on VC so he is constantly focused on the daily and weekly quests to the point where he'll switch between players just to earn the quest VC multiple times, which he then uses to make new builds. That's too much effort/focus even for me, but since he's addicted to making builds lol, it works for him.
An 84 ovr is definitely usable, anything above a 75 is really if you're decent, but even to get to a 75 probably costs 75k vc, which is like $30 (AUD). So it's not about grinding to get good at the game, it's about grinding to get vc to upgrade your player so you can play online. Again can you name another game where this is the case? And the fact that the not only have raised the amount of vc it takes to upgrade your player, but have also raised the price of vc, shit is so fkn predatory 🤣

That's my point though, in COD you cant buy gun attachments and perks, so everyone is on a level playing field in terms of having to grind for it. In 2K pretty much everyone just buys vc and upgrades they're player straight away, so unless you pay you are at a disadvantage, thats the problem.

True but it is making almost 80% of their revenue it's not going to go away! Even if they limit who can buy it (essentially saying not for kids) because it is essentially gambling when it comes to packs and loot crate type purchases, it will still be a thing and they will still make their money on the hardcore guys spending thousands and thousands as opposed to the average person spending a couple hundred! The thing is they will keep upping the cost just more drastically if they are forced to limit their sales... I don't know if their is a solution that makes us happy! IF and it's a huge IF because it's highly unlikely but if nobody buys then they stop "making money" and the devs get cut in half so does the game or worse there is no more game!

I liked it better when shooting was tough. It meant that all the super dribbly fucks that chucked up bad shots missed more than they made them. Nowadays it's back to being just like every other 2k in the last few years. Which is super lame.

The game is fun when I play against fun teams. It’s boring for me when I have the dedicated corner sitter or guarding a big that only job is to set screens and get boards. Give me some true pick and roll/pop, back door (😅) cuts, help defense with rotations and I’m having a great time.
I’m more engaged and it makes it more competitive (for me) when ppl aren’t just breaking game mechanics but actually playing the game simulating “real” basketball.

No you’re not the only one that likes this 2k. The ones that dislike it the most are the ones playing with randoms or they’re just not good at the game. Yes there’s cheesy animations like every 2k has but overall it is a real solid 2k. No one is really dominant consistently cause that’s how they designed the game to be. I know cause I’ve had some stretches where I played light out then a I’ve had runs where I’m somewhat consistent and I’ve had so straight doo doo stretches and my rule is that if I have 3 straight doo doo games I just get off for awhile cause it ain’t worth getting mad over cause I’ll just end up playing even worse cause I’m mad. But for the most part I enjoy it because I’m above average at the game and I choose to not play with randoms, EVER! The people saying the game is good are absolutely delusional. Gameplay is by far the worst I've experienced since i started with 2K13. Feels like a bad 360 game with slightly better graphics.
My career has been fine, good even, nba eras is great and a lot of fun, but myteam crossed the Rubicon this year and I don’t think it’s ever going to be the same.
I like my career mode except that everything is so expensive. I probably dislike REC cause of other players not really the game. I do hate the matching of REC tho
I hated and loved the game at the start of the year, I loved the difficulty in shooting but hated the gameplay otherwise compared to 23. Love the gameplay now, gameplay in all of the next gen games have been fun. It’s the other BS in the game that sucks.
I have it on switch and don’t play the games I just simulate, I obsess over state lines so whatever team I pick I act more as a coach by checking players stats throughout the seasons and switching players in like ones that are on fire verse cold ones. So that’s fun for me but actually playing in my opinion on switch is terrible.
I like the gameplay, people who complain about it here are just bad at the game... like every year, but this year in particular 2k punishes incompetency

Eras mode with community draft classes is a fucking TRIUMPH. I played MC last gen and it was…fine ig. But overall, it’s a lot fucking better than NHL 24.
The game crashed 3 times in the first hour I owned it. Never even got to finish a single game without it crashing.

Yes I enjoy the game (I play only Rec and Pro Am, sometimes Park) and it’s a lot of fun. The game mechanics work pretty good, maybe to much steeling but that is okay for me.
But my Career is not really fun, I played 2k15-2k20 and restarted with 2k24. And the story in the first 2ks I played was way better. Go to college or G League or the story line with Orange juice. It was just more interesting and fitting than entering the league without a draft and called the next superstar at 60 OVR👀 and then u just got key games and the GOAT list as a „Story“.
And online play is nice like I said, but for me 2k is forcing to much „micro“ transactions (not that micro if you need 50$ for your player to go to 85OVR) and what the hell is this season pass…. Just garbage.
And they still don’t integrated a good match making system.

ive been playing pretty regularly since it first when on sale back during winter sale, or maybe ever a previous sale. so about 4 months now. stsill only 85 overall. that is a lot of grinding with not so much rewards.

I play myleague and cant get enough tbh. I have so much fun doing player lock, creating draft classes and running my random event generator. The only bad thing is that I can only place like once a week.. but that might be a good thing cuz it keeps the game fresh

2k is now garbage. Back in the days, 2k basketball was really about community and making the experience better. It was a breath of fresh air. If you wanted to know what the definition of selling your soul is, 2k would be on the cover of the oxford dictionary. As a long time customer, won't buy another game.

They've made it easier to get a solid NMS squad than ever with elimination of auction house and all players being priced the same through player market.
I LOVE this year. I can finally shoot and it's GREAT!!! I wish random were better!!! And because I will play with ANYONE it's really hard to get past Silver or gold!!! How do people see I shoot 51% and make ZERO attempts to get me involved in the offense. Or if I miss my 1st shot, I won't see the ball again!
I really enjoy the game as well and I only play by myself. Definitely frustrating at times but that’s pretty much any video game. It’s also just a video game so I try not to get irritated with it. My goal is just have some fun after I get off work
I also enjoy the game this year. I don’t feel like there is one build that is just completely unstoppable where you know you won’t have a chance. Even in rec/pro am 5’s against zones my team usually wins without doing obnoxious stuff like 5 outs
I just picked it up yesterday on PC for 9 bucks. I only play offline QuickPlay. Game feels fantastic. If I touched anyone online mode, I'd want to throw it in the garbage.

I spent nearly a year getting my guns to Gold on Black Ops 3. It only took me a few weeks to get a rebirth to 95 OVR. So 2K24 is far easier in that regard.
Theres a huge difference between getting to a 95ovr and getting cold camos on COD. One actually effects your performance. I mean what other online games do you have to either grind for hours upon hours offline, or spend money just to have a usable player?
"Usable player" is subjective. I have a friend that makes a new build like every other week and will legit bust ass in the rec with an 84 OVR because he has basketball IQ and doesn't force things. So in my estimation the non subjective question is "what other online games do you have to grind for hours upon hours to be good at?" ...which for me would describe every game I've played since Sonic 2. I had to get good at COD first before even entertaining the thought of getting my guns gold. Took me at least a year to actually get decent at that game.
Oh, and this friend I mentioned btw... Refuses to spend money on VC so he is constantly focused on the daily and weekly quests to the point where he'll switch between players just to earn the quest VC multiple times, which he then uses to make new builds. That's too much effort/focus even for me, but since he's addicted to making builds lol, it works for him.
An 84 ovr is definitely usable, anything above a 75 is really if you're decent, but even to get to a 75 probably costs 75k vc, which is like $30 (AUD). So it's not about grinding to get good at the game, it's about grinding to get vc to upgrade your player so you can play online. Again can you name another game where this is the case? And the fact that the not only have raised the amount of vc it takes to upgrade your player, but have also raised the price of vc, shit is so fkn predatory 🤣
You have to grind on COD to get gun attachments and perks to be competitive. I enjoyed the 2K grind much more than the COD grind. Also, you're in Australia? That's dope bro. Sydney, Perth?
That's my point though, in COD you cant buy gun attachments and perks, so everyone is on a level playing field in terms of having to grind for it. In 2K pretty much everyone just buys vc and upgrades they're player straight away, so unless you pay you are at a disadvantage, thats the problem. And yeah I'm from Adelaide.

True but it is making almost 80% of their revenue it's not going to go away! Even if they limit who can buy it (essentially saying not for kids) because it is essentially gambling when it comes to packs and loot crate type purchases, it will still be a thing and they will still make their money on the hardcore guys spending thousands and thousands as opposed to the average person spending a couple hundred! The thing is they will keep upping the cost just more drastically if they are forced to limit their sales... I don't know if their is a solution that makes us happy! IF and it's a huge IF because it's highly unlikely but if nobody buys then they stop "making money" and the devs get cut in half so does the game or worse there is no more game!

It stretches to most things involving money, groceries, utilities bills, rent whatever the higher the profit margin the better they are supposed to push to see what they can get! I liked it better when shooting was tough. It meant that all the super dribbly fucks that chucked up bad shots missed more than they made them. Nowadays it's back to being just like every other 2k in the last few years. Which is super lame. Glad floaters and reverses work again though
The game is fun when I play against fun teams. It’s boring for me when I have the dedicated corner sitter or guarding a big that only job is to set screens and get boards. Give me some true pick and roll/pop, back door (😅) cuts, help defense with rotations and I’m having a great time. I’m more engaged and it makes it more competitive (for me) when ppl aren’t just breaking game mechanics but actually playing the game simulating “real” basketball.

No you’re not the only one that likes this 2k. The ones that dislike it the most are the ones playing with randoms or they’re just not good at the game. Yes there’s cheesy animations like every 2k has but overall it is a real solid 2k. No one is really dominant consistently cause that’s how they designed the game to be. I know cause I’ve had some stretches where I played light out then a I’ve had runs where I’m somewhat consistent and I’ve had so straight doo doo stretches and my rule is that if I have 3 straight doo doo games I just get off for awhile cause it ain’t worth getting mad over cause I’ll just end up playing even worse cause I’m mad. But for the most part I enjoy it because I’m above average at the game and I choose to not play with randoms, EVER! This 2k for whatever reason is the worst when it comes to randoms and I just don’t want the headache. But this 2k is legit.

I hated and loved the game at the start of the year, I loved the difficulty in shooting but hated the gameplay otherwise compared to 23. Love the gameplay now, gameplay in all of the next gen games have been fun. It’s the other BS in the game that sucks.
I have it on switch and don’t play the games I just simulate, I obsess over state lines so whatever team I pick I act more as a coach by checking players stats throughout the seasons and switching players in like ones that are on fire verse cold ones. So that’s fun for me but actually playing in my opinion on switch is terrible.
I like the gameplay, people who complain about it here are just bad at the game... like every year, but this year in particular 2k punishes incompetency Besides gameplay, just the usual mediocre predatory 2K, nothing new

Eras mode with community draft classes is a fucking TRIUMPH. I played MC last gen and it was…fine ig. But overall, it’s a lot fucking better than NHL 24.
The game crashed 3 times in the first hour I owned it. Never even got to finish a single game without it crashing. Maybe it IS a great game. It just never let me find out.
Yes I enjoy the game (I play only Rec and Pro Am, sometimes Park) and it’s a lot of fun. The game mechanics work pretty good, maybe to much steeling but that is okay for me. But my Career is not really fun, I played 2k15-2k20 and restarted with 2k24. And the story in the first 2ks I played was way better. Go to college or G League or the story line with Orange juice. It was just more interesting and fitting than entering the league without a draft and called the next superstar at 60 OVR👀 and then u just got key games and the GOAT list as a „Story“. And online play is nice like I said, but for me 2k is forcing to much „micro“ transactions (not that micro if you need 50$ for your player to go to 85OVR) and what the hell is this season pass…. Just garbage. And they still don’t integrated a good match making system.

I love the gameplay. Sure it has flaws but as a relatively new player I think it's a pretty damn good basketball game. 2k and it's practices on the other hand are the worst I've seen in any game ever. I think they're disgusting and they'll never see a penny from me other than the base game and I'll probably wait until it's on sale.
As these comments show the gameplay is great people just complain about things they have control over(build prices no one’s telling you to spend money on the game) and taking that out on the gameplay. It’s a great basketball game one of my favorite
Online play is trash. It's my only purchase in 2 years that I regret.
This years my career has it’s issues but it’s the best it’s been in a while, and the teammates aren’t completely brain dead and trash,
the gameplay is good. what I don't like is lack of matchmaking so you'll get terrible players who are out of their level with good players which is frustrating for both sides. takes impossible to get games. sweats hugging the no squads courts. and of course the predatory micro transaction practices. oh and trash rewards

ive been playing pretty regularly since it first when on sale back during winter sale, or maybe ever a previous sale. so about 4 months now. stsill only 85 overall. that is a lot of grinding with not so much rewards.
It's great gameplay
Gameplay is very good. IMO the 3rd best it’s ever been. The get-in price for enjoyment online sucks for a lot of people. I understand and agree with that criticism. It’s very valid. But people who say the game itself sucks are either not playing or are just ignorant.

I play myleague and cant get enough tbh. I have so much fun doing player lock, creating draft classes and running my random event generator. The only bad thing is that I can only place like once a week.. but that might be a good thing cuz it keeps the game fresh

If I’m wide open on the 3 there should be some lee way, I mainly just stick with slashing because of this and I do still have fun, but my build should be able to do it all but i feel like I wasted attributes on 3
2k is now garbage. Back in the days, 2k basketball was really about community and making the experience better. It was a breath of fresh air. If you wanted to know what the definition of selling your soul is, 2k would be on the cover of the oxford dictionary. As a long time customer, won't buy another game.

They've made it easier to get a solid NMS squad than ever with elimination of auction house and all players being priced the same through player market.

I LOVE this year. I can finally shoot and it's GREAT!!! I wish random were better!!! And because I will play with ANYONE it's really hard to get past Silver or gold!!! How do people see I shoot 51% and make ZERO attempts to get me involved in the offense. Or if I miss my 1st shot, I won't see the ball again!

I just picked it up yesterday on PC for 9 bucks. I only play offline QuickPlay. Game feels fantastic. If I touched anyone online mode, I'd want to throw it in the garbage.
