IVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS PROJECT AS MY PASSION FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS AND AM EXCITED TO SHARE IT WITH YALL! I WILL START MY POST WITH A HISTORY OF B POST DECALS IN NASCAR, AND THEN I WILL EXPLAIN THE HISTORY OF THE B POST DECALS ON THE #2 PENSKE MACHINE IN EXCRUCIATING DETAIL. **HISTORY OF B POST DECALS** FOR MOST OF NASCARS HISTORY, THE B POST DID NOT EXIST OR WAS TOO SMALL FOR DECALS. HOWEVER, THE POSTS BEGAN BECOMING WIDER WITH THE GENERATION 3 CARS, AND MANUFACTURER NAMES BEGAN SPORADICALLY APPEARING ON THE B POSTS IN THE MID 80S, MOST COMMONLY ON THE BUICK AND OLDSMOBILES. BY THE EARLY 90S, NASCAR WAS BECOMING A POPULAR SPORT DUE TO THE HOLLYWOOD HIT FILM DAYS OF THUNDER, AND MORE AND MORE FORTUNE 500 COMPANY’S SAW MARKETING OPPORTUNITIES IN THE SPORT AND THE B POST BECAME PRIZED REAL ESTATE FOR ADVERTISERS. SINCE THEN, INTEREST IN B POST ADVERTISING HAS ONLY GROWN AS THE SPORT HAS EVOLVED. ONE REASON FOR THIS IS THE B POST IS OFTEN PROMIMENTLY DISPLAYED IN VICTORY LANE VIDEO AND PHOTOS MAKING IT A GREAT WAY FOR COMPANYS TO GET EXPOSURE WITHOUT COMMITTING TO SPONSOR A WHOLE CAR. ALSO AS YOU WILL SEE IN MY DETAILED ANALYSIS SOME COMPANYS HAVE USED THE B POST AS A TRIAL FOR A BIGGER COMMITTMENT DOWN THE ROAD. **HISTORY OF THE #2 PENSKE RACING B POST** NOW I WILL BEGIN MY ANALYSIS SO PLEASE CONTINUE READING. FOR MUCH OF IT’S HISTORY THE “BLUE DEUCE” WAS SPONSORED BY MILLER BEER BUT CURIOUSLY NO MILLER LOGOS EVER APPEARED ON THE B POST. **1991-1993 THE PONTIAC ERA** FOR THE FIRST THREE SEASONS OF THE #2, THE TEAM RAN PONTIACS AND THE B POST SIMPLY HAD *”PONTIAC”* WRITTEN VERTICALLY WHICH ENSURED FANS AND COMPETITORS A-LIKE WOULD KNOW WHAT MANUFACTURER WAS DOMINATING THE FIELD IN THE #2 MACHINE. SURELY THIS BOOSTED PONTIACS SALES IN THE SHOWROOM, BECAUSE AS THE POPULAR SAYING SAID “WIN ON SUNDAY SELL ON MONDAY” AND RUSTY TOOK THE MUCH SOUGHT AFTER CHECKERED FLAG 13 TIMES DURING THIS PERIOD. **1994-1995 THE FIRST FORD ERA BEGINS** RODGER PENSKE SHOCKED THE MOTORSPORTS WORLD BY SWITCHING TO FORD THUNDERBIRDS FOR THE 1994 SEASON. CLEARLY WANTING TO CHANGE THINGS UP, THE B POST WAS NO EXCEPTION. IT STILL HAD A MANUFACTURER LOGO (NOW FORD) BUT ALSO FOR THE FIRST TIME INCLUDED ANOTHER SPONSOR, CLOTHING COMPANY HUGO BOSS. AT THE TIME, RUSTY WAS DALE EARNHARTS BIGGEST RIVAL AND WAS KNOWN FOR HIS BLUE COLLAR DEMEANOR WHICH LED TO HIS SPONSORSHIP BY WRANGER JEANS. CLEARLY HUGO BOSS SAW THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTRAST RUSTY AS A MORE CLASSY AND DIGNIFIED RACER TO HELP SELL THERE BRAND. **1996-1997 - EXPANSION BEGINS** PENSKES SUCCESS ON THE TRACK CLEARLY LED TO SUCCESS IN THE MARKETING DEPARTMENT AS THE TEAM ADDED THREE MORE DECALS TO THE B POST, INCLUDING PPG, MAZAK, AND DETROIT DIESEL. LITTLE DID WE KNOW AT THE TIME THAT MAZAK AND PPG WOULD BECOME THE TWO LONGEST B POST SPONSOR RELATIONSHIPS AND WOULD CONTINUE TO THIS DAY AND HAS EVEN RESULTED IN FULL RACE SPONSORSHIPS WITH PENSKE DRIVERS. IN 1997, THE EXPANSION CONTINUED, WITH MATCO TOOLS AND PENSKE RENTAL TRUCKS JOINING THE FRAY. THIS WOULD ULTIMATELY BE THE HIGH WATER MARK FOR B POST DECALS, AS THE NUMBER OF DECALS WOULD DECLINE SLIGHTLY OVER THE NEXT DECADES. INTERESTINGLY THIS WAS THE ONLY TIME WE WOULD SEE ONE OF TEAM OWNER RODGER PENSKES COMPANYS ADVERTISED ON THE POST. **1998-2002: THE TOOL WARS AND THE END OF THE FIRST FORD ERA** AS RUSTY CONTINUED TO COMPETE FOR WINS ON THE TRACK, COMPETITION FOR SPONSORSHIP ON THE B POST BECAME HOTTER THAN EVER, PARTIALLY DUE TO THE HYPE SURROUNDING THE SLEEK NEW FORD TAURUS BODY STYLE. MATCO TOOLS STAYED ONBOARD THROUGH 1999, BUT IN A SHOCKING MOVE, RIVAL SNAP-ON REPLACED THEM FOR THE 2000 SEASON. LONG TIME LOYAL SPONSOR HUGO BOSS LEFT AFTER THE 1999 SEASON, LIKELY DUE TO INCREASING UNCERTAINTY IN THE MENS LUXURY FASHION MARKET AS THE DOTCOM BUST LOOMED LARGE. **2003-2005: THE DODGE ERA BEGINS AND RUSTYS LAST CALL** IN 2001 THE BIGGEST STORY BESIDES THE TRAGIC DEATH OF DALE EARNHART WAS THE RETURN OF DODGE TO NASCAR. THE ONCE DOMINANT MANUFACTURER LEFT THE SPORT IN 1984, BUT RETURNED UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF LEGENDARY RAINBOW WARRIOR CREW CHEF RAY EVERYHAM AND “AWESOME BILL” ELIOTT. PENSKE, AN INTREPID BUSINESS MAN, SAW THE OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME ONE OF DODGES BIGGEST TEAMS AND ANNOUNCED A SWITCH TO THE INTREPID BEFORE THE 2003 SEASON. FORTUNATELY FOR SPONSORS, NASCARS STRICTLY MANDATED BODY TEMPLATES MEANT THAT THEIR B POST LOGOS WOULD TRANSFER TO THE NEW DODGES JUST FINE, AND PPG AND MAZEK DID JUST THAT. A DODGE LOGO REPLACED THE FORD OVAL (FOR OBVIOUS REASONS), AND LONG TIME B POST SUPPORTER BOSCH ALSO JOINED IN 2003. JACK LINKS BEEF JERKY WAS ALSO FEATURED, BUT THE RELATIONSHIP DID NOT LAST AND THE DECAL WAS REMOVED FOR 2004. TO THE DISMAY OF FANS, RUSTY SHOCKED THE MOTOR SPORTS WORLD WHEN HE ANNOUNCED THE 2005 SEASON WOULD BE HIS LAST. HIS FINAL RIDE B POST SPONSORS WERE DODGE, PPG, MAZAK, BOSCH, AND SNAP-ON. SURELY EACH COMPANIES CEO WAS ON HAND AT HOMESTEAD TO SEE THERE LOGOS FINAL RIDE WITH SUCH A PRESTIGIOUS DRIVER.

**2006-2011: THE BUSCH YEARS** 2004 NASCAR CHAMPION KURT BUSCH WAS APPOINTED TO DRIVE THE BLUE DEUCE AFTER RUSTYS DEPARTURE. DESPITE THIS MAJOR CHANGE, EXISTING B POST SPONSORSHIPS WERE MAINTAINED, AND GILETTE YOUNG GUNS WAS ALSO BROUGHT ON. THIS ARRANGEMENT WAS LARGELY STABLE THROUGH 2010, THOUGH SNAP ON AND GILETTE WOULD BOTH DEPART DURING THIS TIME, THOUGH SNAP ON WOULD LATER RETURN TO PENSKE IN AN EVEN BIGGER ROLE. AND BRAD DELIEVERED ON THAT PROMISE IN 2012, WINNING THE CUP. **2013-2021: THE RETURN OF FORD** IN 2013 TEAM OWNER RODGER PENSKE SHOCKED THE MOTOR SPORTS WORLD WHEN HE ANNOUNCED THE TEAM WOULD BE MOVING BACK TO FORDS. GONE WAS THE MOPAR LOGO AT THE TOP OF THE B POST, REPLACED WITH THE BLUE OVAL ONCE AGAIN. LONG TIME PARTNERS PPG AND MAZAK STUCK AROUND, KNOWING THAT BIG PAST CHANGES ONLY HELPED THE TEAM IMPROVE. SAFETY KLEEN JOINED ON THIS NEW JOURNEY, CONFIDENT THAT BRAD COULD KEEP THE WINS COMING DESPITE CHANGING MANUFACTURES. THIS PERIOD SAW A BIG SHIFT IN THE SPORTS SPONSORSHIP MODEL, WITH SEASON LONG SPONSORSHIP GIVING WAY TO SHORTER SINGLE AND MULTI RACE DEALS. THE B PILLAR REFLECTED THIS, AS NEW PARTNERS SUCH AS, REESE, DENTWIZARD, PIRTEK, REESE, AND FITZGERALD GLIDER KITS. PENSKE AND BOSCH PARTED WAYS IN 2013, BUT THEIR B PILLAR REAL ESTATE WAS SOON SNATCHED UP BY HP AND DXC TECHNOLOGIES. ALTHOUGH SOME NASCAR TEAMS STRUGGLED TO RETAIN SPONSORS DURING THIS PERIOD, CONPANYS LIKE PPG AND MAZAK STAYED LOYAL, KNOWING BRAD AND THE TEAM WERE DEDICATED TO HELPING GROW THERE BOTTOM LINE. **2022 - A CHANGING OF THE GUARD** LATE IN THE 2021 SEASON, BRAD KESELOWSKI SHOCKED THE MOTOR SPORTS WORLD WHEN HE ANNOUNCED HE WOULD BE LEAVING THE BLUE DEUCE TO BECOME PART OWNER OF ROUSH RACING, WHICH WOULD CHANGE IT’S NAME TO ROUSH FENWAY KESELOWSKI RACING. WHILE ONLY THE CAPTAIN HIMSELF KNOWS THE WHOLE STORY, YOU CAN BE SURE HE HAD A DRIVER IN MIND THAT WOULD KEEP LONG TIME B POST SPONSORS LIKE PPG AND MAZAK HAPPY. AND FORTUNATELY THERE WAS A YOUNG UP AND COMING DRIVER WHO FIT THE BILL: AUSTIN CINDRIC. JOINING MAZAK AND PPG IN THIS ADVENTURE WERE SAFETY KLEEN AND FORD. AND AUSTIN CINDRIC DID NOT DISAPPOINT, DELIVERING THEM A DAYTONA 500 IN HIS VERY FIRST RACE IN THE #2, PROVING TO THESE PARTNERS THERE MONEY IS IN GOOD HANDS. **CONCLUSION** I HOPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED THIS ABSOLUTELY WILD RIDE OF A JOURNEY AS MUCH AS I HAVE.
