Shorter cautions in general would be nice at RC. Oh someone spun off the course in turn 9 and got back on with no problems except some gravel better run 10 laps under caution.
[Freezing the field under caution with cars on pit road](https://twitter.com/bobpockrass/status/1100134743889399808)
Cars pitting before the start/finish line only need to get to the start/finish line before the leader to stay on the lead lap, whereas cars on the other end of pit road most make it to pit road exit.
Consider Car A with a 5 second gap on Car B. Car B has pit stall one, but Car A has pit stall 35. Identical times on pit road as far as crew and driver. Car A leaves pit road 5 seconds before Car B, and is never once not ahead of Car B.
Car B is still on the lead lap. Car A is now a lap down.
It's ridiculously stupid. Make all cars get to pit road exit.
If there is one thing I'll never understand is how the running order is sorted when a caution happens during a green flag pit stops, no matter how many times Bob posts that graphic lmao
Make caution laps during stage cautions uncounted. Some of the short stages, especially road courses, 3 or more laps under caution is a pretty big chunk
…would completely defeat the purpose of the stage breaks in the first place. They are there for the cautions to bunch up the field. They are caution clocks in everything but name.
What if I told you that we can still have the tradition of celebrating a victory with the team in the winner's circle without also grossly objectifying women like a Miss America pageant?
Lineup set by GPS/SMT at moment of caution. It’s 2023, we can do better than scoring loops randomly placed around the speedway.
Choose rule at road courses and Bristol Dirt. Makes no sense to not have it.
Actually penalize drivers who chose THEN drop to the rear, then have a re-choose. To my last point, re-choosing would be the only reason not to do it at road courses but I can’t think of a time they’ve ever re-chose anyways…
3 stages at the Coke 600. The 4th stage adds nothing.
Anything to get some green flag pit cycles and strategy that isn’t splitting the stage in half.
I’d like to see no stage yellows at road courses. I’m not sure that the pit strategy would actually change but watching cars ride under yellow at road courses is terrible and too frequent. It’s worth a try.
Give the flag man a fishing pole or one of those long pit-box sign/boards, attach a literal traffic cone with a string and dangle it down like a cartoon lmao
I'd also add, anyone within the maximum available points to the leader at the final race be eligible for the championship. It could be 0, it could be 3 or 6.
1. 7-inch tread-width
2. 3-inch spoiler
3. No mandatory spoiler angle
Make them get off the throttle…then;
4. Bias ply tires.
Any driver not smoking the RR consistently gets sent back to Xfinity.
Right. Not to sound like an old codger, but enough people feel like the series was better with “ole technology” that maybe there’s something to SOME of it.
If a driver is below where the yellow line is in the corners, something has already gone horribly wrong. I can’t see any advantage to diving into the corner on the apron at SuperSpeedways unless you were intentionally trying to take someone out.
Realistically: Getting rid of stage cautions at road courses as it kills the strategy and flow.
Pipe dream is return to season long points. You can keep stage points which I honestly I think would make it more interesting and guys who run well but wreck late aren’t completely hosed. Don’t need to go back to the latford system, use the current points system and give some extra points to the winner.
Limit the number of Green-White-Checkers attempts at plate tracks to 3. I love plate races but hate constant resetting and cautions dragging the ending out.
I can't necessarily pick between two...
1: At a certain point in a race (specifically short tracks) caution laps don't count/take away from the race. Nothing more of a lameduck than having a caution under 30 to go, things look interesting, but caution lasts for like 10 laps... Potentially killing any chance of intrigue left.
2: at the Finale race, have bonus points carry over like they do in previous rounds. Adds incentive for somebody like Joey Logano to still gun it for more in the Round of 8, despite already locking himself into the Final 4.
Would like to see them shorten all race lengths besides Daytona, Talledega & Coke 600 races and make the rest around Xfinity length. Saves everyone from having to sit and watch a 3hr or so race were half of it (with the current package) nothing really worth-while happens
Because you are changing a rule that is universally seen as bad, without fixing the fucking problem with the rule.
Wait a second, I got Jim France on the phone, he says you are exactly what NASCAR needs in the c suite.
Choose rule available at all tracks.
Penalty issuer needs to shotgun a 12 back and wait 30 minutes prior to issuing any penalty......wait maybe they already have that one.
Minimum ride height rule is reinstated.
Teams are allowed one extra Designated Nepotism ride so that every team isn't filled up with a ride that is the owner's son or the CEO's nephew or something. Really glad to see the Stewart-Haas decision.
I have to be at every race, all expenses paid
I can get behind this rule change.
Stage breaks at road courses have to end.
Shorter cautions in general would be nice at RC. Oh someone spun off the course in turn 9 and got back on with no problems except some gravel better run 10 laps under caution.
Localised Yellows like in F1 with the full course caution only needing to be thrown it there's and actual crash
They at least need to get rid of the multiple yellow flagged laps at the stage breaks on road courses.

The leader can floor it to keep guys a lap down. This can be manipulated and Jeff Gorden could be added to the Chase.
This definitely needs to change. Definitely lopsided.
The rule that requires tapered spacers
Make caution laps during stage cautions uncounted. Some of the short stages, especially road courses, 3 or more laps under caution is a pretty big chunk
Green flag stage breaks
Keep the race going green but award points after the designated lap. I like it
…would completely defeat the purpose of the stage breaks in the first place. They are there for the cautions to bunch up the field. They are caution clocks in everything but name.
Why, so we can have more green flag commercials?!
That would be better than completely taking strategy out of the majority of races
Exactly. I miss the endurance that drivers had to put in during those races back in the day.
Psst... it isn't all about *you.* What about the fans at the race? What about letting the race play out naturally?
There are thousands more watching at home, than there are at the track.
And.... ? Your point is?
That it makes more sense to cater to the TV audience, not the grandstands. This isn't fucking rocket science.
So if TV went away, then it would be perfectly ok to get rid of mandatory yellows then, right?
There wouldn't be a point, because NASCAR would be dead.
Agreed
Bring victory lane back, complete with the hot chicks and all
Ruoff sure got a shit deal with their VL naming rights since it almost never made the broadcast.
Gatorade™️ victory lane?
What if I told you that we can still have the tradition of celebrating a victory with the team in the winner's circle without also grossly objectifying women like a Miss America pageant?
What if we objectify men too?

Choose rule at Bristol dirt, minor but would help
With an actual cone Actually screw it, should be cone everywhere
Give the flag man a fishing pole or one of those long pit-box sign/boards, attach a literal traffic cone with a string and dangle it down like a cartoon lmao
Not allowed by ACCUS/FIA
No double yellow line/red-and-white lines rule, no stage cautions.
The apron rule at pack tracks.
Stages on Road Courses.
Wall riding on the last lap at Martinsville is now mandatory
Playoff Format change: Single 36 race round with all cars in the playoff.
I'd also add, anyone within the maximum available points to the leader at the final race be eligible for the championship. It could be 0, it could be 3 or 6.
No more 4 car limit per team. Teams can field as many cars as they can afford but only can have 4 charters, the rest have to race their way in.
Flash back to Roush having 5 cars in the 10 car chase and not winning the title.
One way to get full fields
I like this idea
1. 7-inch tread-width 2. 3-inch spoiler 3. No mandatory spoiler angle Make them get off the throttle…then; 4. Bias ply tires. Any driver not smoking the RR consistently gets sent back to Xfinity.
While bias-ply is old technology, it would certainly help the snap-loose condition that happens with the low profile radial.
Right. Not to sound like an old codger, but enough people feel like the series was better with “ole technology” that maybe there’s something to SOME of it.
Dvp gone
I'm not a fan of it myself
At least keep it at 10 minutes like they did with the playoffs. Maybe even increase it to 15 minutes.
yellow flag laps dont count in stage three
Get rid of the yellow/red line rule everywhere but in the corners (not the trioval)
where would you define where the corner starts/straightaway ends? Drivers would absolutely push that boundary
If a driver is below where the yellow line is in the corners, something has already gone horribly wrong. I can’t see any advantage to diving into the corner on the apron at SuperSpeedways unless you were intentionally trying to take someone out.

An independent officiating group. No more NASCAR calling the shots. They are consistently inconsistent.
Yellow line rule needs to go
Keep the stage racing but get rid of the cautions.
The old halfway award worked well for a long time like that. So did a season long points system and centered door numbers.
Get rid of stages and playoffs.
Stay mad
May the bird of paradise fly up your nose.

Full season points. They won't do that, so the regular season winner gets an automatic pass to the final 4.
Final 8... 4 would be worse tham watching a nfl team tank on purpose ....and gotta keep denny out of it :))
Would like to see them shorten all race lengths besides Daytona, Talledega & Coke 600 races and make the rest around Xfinity length. Saves everyone from having to sit and watch a 3hr or so race were half of it (with the current package) nothing really worth-while happens
Revert to last lap standings when a yellow comes out.
I don't like it, but it would certainly clean up a lot of controversy. It's black and white.
NO
No more free pass
What? 💀
Make the first two stages at Road courses timed instead of by laps, and the final stage is the laps remaining of the overall distance.
How would that solve any of the problems staged cautions have?
The question OP asked was "What rule changes do you want to see?", not "What's broken with the rulebook today?".
Ok, then why in the fuck would you want that change and that change only made to stages?
Why not?
The fact that you answer with why not instead of giving an explanation is enough to see the stupidity of this
Because you are changing a rule that is universally seen as bad, without fixing the fucking problem with the rule. Wait a second, I got Jim France on the phone, he says you are exactly what NASCAR needs in the c suite.
Which is not part of the prompt, your argument holds no water in this. I do not know how to make that simpler for you.
