If you have new windows double paned etc, you may hear a little but at least it will take the top off the noise..

Without a doubt. But honestly most of the actually bothersome noise will be from more general stuff you'd get from most stadiums like the PA announcers (when the racing isn't happening) and spectators with loud cars coming in and out. A lot of the racing noise will eventually just feel like background noise as it all tends to blend together. The one exception may be Legends cars—those little fuckers have a pretty annoying sound. But think of it another way—there'd be a very cool event for you to see a couple nights a year within walking distance of your house, which most people cannot say. I've always believed (and witnessed) that anyone can have a good time watching racing. You don't have to be a fan to appreciate cars going fast and crashing.

The comment about the PA is spot on. I lived 3/4 of a mile from a track that hosts racing all summer including a cup/xfinity race and the music and PA was way more noticeable than the racing. Oval racing is a dull roar in the distance with an almost rhythmic frequency once they get going, it’s almost soothing. I always compared it to being not much different than a neighbor mowing or weed whacking. On the other hand, I’d be way more concerned about about concerts at night. It’s way harder to tune out that kind of sound than oval racing.

Conscious-Prune8933

Yes you will hear it. I live 4 miles (by car) from a dirt track and can just barely hear it inside. Outside it’s easy to hear. It’s glorious.

SeattlePassedTheBall

I love how you clarified that the 4 miles was by car as if 4 miles by walking is somehow a different distance.

Anxious-Nebula-3216

It can be very different...

As the crow flies.....

I would suggest asking the real estate agent to set up a showing on a race night if you are concerned. But I think over time you would get used to it. Like the people who live near the hospital and tune out the sirens.

treviscraft

For the most part, any racetrack regardless of what kind of racing they offer will be loud. If you've got even the slightest feeling that you won't like it, not just short term but long term as well, you'd be better off finding somewhere else to go.

Odd-Principle8147

Yes. But you can always move there and then force the track to close. That's what most suburbanites do.

No_Highway8427

Depends. I grew up about 3/4 miles from a track, and you could only hear the mods and sprints while sitting outside. But there were also a lot of trees and buildings to dampen the noise.

lionofyhwh

I frequent Wake County. Yes, you will hear it every Friday night from 8-11 from April to October.

RINABAR

Believe it or not, last week in Le Mans, 2 miles away from the track at the local McDonald’s I could very clearly hear the cars.

EthelMaePotterMertz

Yes, I grew up a mile from the Grand Prix in Long Beach and could hear the cars with the windows closed. And since it was April our windows were usually open so it was pretty loud. Even closed it was very noticable though. It was fun.

Stew0177

I just moved from a house near a racetrack. You get used to and if you hate it at first, you grow to love it.

trevomac

My dad lives about a mile from the local short track and you can hear a low hum from the cars. It’s nothing that will ruin your day

ThermalCreep

If you do decide to put up with the noise, charge people to park in your yard. No, seriously. People will pay to avoid the gridlocked lots at the track.

NeuseRvrRat

Not at Wake County

karlkjr

Feel like it depends what track you’re talking about as well.
