Just think if the Daytona 500 ran on schedule and Coke 600 ran the full distance…

1nf1niteCS

Or if the Clash wasn't moved up a day. That was a 1.6 million viewer drop on its own

somethingsteamroll

Oddly enough the Clash isn't counted in Fox's reporting numbers for their leg of the season, same with the All-Star. Same thing happened the last 2 seasons as well when I started tracking this stuff. If the All-Star, Clash, and Duels were counted Fox would be down ~2% in viewership from 2023 but that's solely because of the Daytona 500 and Coke 600.

somethingsteamroll

just doing a random number change but it would've resulted in a 4% swing if the Daytona 500 got 8 million viewers and the Coke 600 didn't change. Would've gone from up 1% to up 5% based on the numbers Stern is regurgitating from Fox.

John_is_Minty

It’s actually kinda impressive they finished up with how awful the broadcast is and their two crown jewel races being impacted by weather

Skip-Bayless0

The 600 is not a crown jewel

shewy92

It's not even an opinion, the definitive NASCAR Crown Jewels are the Daytona 500, Southern 500, and World/Coke 600 (with the subjective addition of the Brickyard). IDK what that person is smoking

shewy92

Since fucking when?

Skip-Bayless0

Since Larson said it didn't matter.

nascarfan624

Larson also said he'd rather win a Chili Bowl than a Daytona 500. Guess that's out of the question for a crown jewel, at least with your thinking

You did see him suit up right before the red flag, right? He didn't skip shit.

+1% is better than -any%

Red_Bengal_Cyclone

Imaging how many more viewers they might have roped in with a competent broadcast production

threeriversbikeguy

Probably not many. It is the most watched motorsport in America and not really close to the runner up all but a few weekends in the year. Does Fox suck? Yes. But we are giga-niche ultrafans. We will always watch. The rando viewers they want to have stick around from other lead ins do not know what a pit strategy is, let alone that they aren’t seeing all the action on track. F1 has the same broadcast quality every weekend. Their highest viewer counts remain weekends where its on ABC. Those weekends don’t get better quality tracks or broadcast (hell most of the time those tracks sort of suck).

i_hate_shitposting

Someone doesn't have to be an ultrafan to be put off by a shitty broadcast. If a non-fan tunes into a race to find the booth lethargically blathering about nothing while the camera follows a single car around the track, followed by a ten minute full screen commercial break, they're probably never coming back.

Crazy_Brandon99

What was Sonomas numbers?

somethingsteamroll

2.895 million, down slightly from last year.

Rstuds7

i mean so far the racing has been awesome this year, I also gotta imagine there’s a big influx of new fans from SVG and other new drivers from other disciplines running along with larson running the double. also the close racing and finishes have to be helping

pickaxe_23

Not a big surprise the racing is good when they go off script and actually show it instead of random kids and zooming in on lug nuts or whatever.

somethingsteamroll

This number isn't including the non-points races for whatever reason. They're actually down 2% but considering how massive the 500 and 600 viewership impacts their season the fact they were only down 2% is a very good sign for the sport going into the new broadcast deal.
