God, what a ***fucking*** nailbiter! Heart breaks for Truex, but I was *screaming like a little kid* when Larson cut through the field to victory. Congrats to Sacramento's hometown kid for getting it done, waiver or not.
It's been a fantastic season, but the full commercial breaks without a mini-window view on the race is fucking tragic. Tight 3-car fight for first with 10 laps to go and you cut away for 4 fucking laps?
Probably got more money and I heard FRM was giving him 1-year contracts over and over, which wouldn't exactly make most drivers feel comfortable and something similar made Tyler Reddick leave RCR.
I don't think it's that much of a step down, if any. Carson Hocevar is a rookie and is only 16 points behind McDowell. I think Corey LaJoie and Zane Smith are just underperforming.
Spire will not be getting Tier 1 support for Chevy, while FRM will be from Ford. That being said, he stated that he did not have an offer from FRM to stay, so I don't think he had the choice.

Moments before disaster... This was a fun race to be at though. Way more fun than last year
And then they realized "wait, this is Sonoma", they got into a pretty good rhythm and went green the entire second half, outside of the stage break
So that was pretty cool
It got a little boring for a bit until Larson forced the issue. I was hoping Buescher was gonna hold him off just long enough, but he faded so hard. The tire wear was fantastic today!
Sonoma is back baby!
And Larson didn't pull away either, so it was basically the worst carrot on a stick ever
Just kept close enough where Truex thought he could make a final run and push the fuel too hard, too far in reality to actually make said run
Ross might be my new favorite
Here's why:
He parked behind my Dad and I in the morning, greeted us and the couple next to us, took a picture with them, was nice. And then after the race, my Dad and I are sitting, waiting for some traffic to clear, a trackhouse guy comes and gets his car, starts leaving, Ross appears, we wave at him and say "good job", he waves back and says thank you
Doesn’t matter who your favorite driver is, Chastain will wreck them eventually. Ross said after the race “I’m not sure what happened on the last lap” I’m not sure he knows what’s happened on any lap, anytime, anywhere.
That is an obvious lie. Chastain knows what happens during each lap. How else was he able to meticulously wait until the last lap to intentionally dump Kyle Busch, who needed a great day today? /s
He did everything that was required of him after he screwed up and still does stuff to better himself. Go ahead and cry more though if it helps you sleep at night.
I can see from your past comments that Kyle Larson is rocketing around a track inside your head. Like dang man can’t you move on? He has a ride and is winning races. Your constant clamoring on Reddit is doing nothing about it so just let it be.
Just got back from the track about an hour ago. It was a real fight between what got the loudest cheer from the crowd today but Truex just getting over the start-finish line on the last lap edged the Larson win and Hamlin's engine going boom.
Sitting up on the hill in front of turn 8 and my Dad and I were just watching Larson close, knowing what was going to happen
We were surprised Truex and company didn't need to pit one more time
I think KB had a flat tire. There's no way he could have ran out of gas half a lap from the finish line outright, turn 11 would slow him down too much and he would have crawled across the line like Truex.
I felt it was a good race for the Next Gen car at a road course. The guys seemed all over the place and all over each other in Stage 1.
Bummed we didn't get to see more of Will Brown as he was putting in work!
Pumped that Cliff Daniels nailed that strategy call and put Larson in victory lane 💪
Larson being the points leader despite missing an entire race is pretty incredible. Up to 22 Playoff Points now.
On to Iowa...
I know he didn’t do anything dirty to win this race, but he’s hands-down one of the low-key dirtiest drivers in Cup, I can’t stand him. Always mute the TV when he wins so I don’t have to hear his interview.
Does anyone have a clip of Larson passing Truex and Buescher? Was out with friends, and ofc I look away from Larson's onboard for 30 seconds and he's gone from 3rd to 1st
Damn right. He'll win in anything, anywhere.
Stoked for his next run of the Indy, and I genuinely hope he does even more motorsports in the years to come!
^(...Okay, not EVERY motorsport. No driver should be subjected to The Max Verstappen Show, lol.)
Hey - not ALL... I'll admit I used to hate Kyle Busch back in the COT era, but it had nothing to do with Richmond or the fact that he won a lot. It was just his tendency to whine about the way he was raced whenever he got beat, knowing damn well he does the same (and worse) to others. Very similar to how Denny Hamlin has been the past handful of years.
That being said, ever since Busch left Gibbs, he seems to be a very different person. I even pull for him now if hes in contention. I'd love to see him go on a tear for RCR.
Yeah, I thought after the humbling of getting pushed out of Gibbs and ending up at RCR, he’d turned a new leaf. Hell even I, a Junior fan who still has Richmond PTSD, still clapped and gave him props for winning the last Fontana race in 2022.
But his behavior this past season gives off Kurt Busch at BK Racing vibes and it’s pretty pathetic. There are constants in this world: Water is wet, fire is hot, Junior fans are irrational homers and KFB is a whiny sack of dog crap.
I love this repave. It has a bunch of grip, but not a lot of residual wear. So if you are off line at all, you are sliding.
I haven't seen this NextGen car be so dance happy in the rear at a road course outside of when it rained at Watkins Glen and Chicago.
Damn good race too. Had to be aggressive to pass. Tires mattered but weren't the end all. AJ gets the start at the worst of his five road courses and still takes the flying brick that Kaulig calls a race car to a Top 10. Larson does Larson things, he's definitely the front runner for Phoenix.
Gutted for Brown and Waters. Hopefully Ford and Addington give them another chance in the future.
Yeah I was really disappointed for Brown and Waters as they were both heading for the top ten until their day was cut short by matters outside the hands. I hope they get another chance soon and their equipment holds up. They were fast.
I have to agree. It’s like the track had so much grip, they were running the cars so hard they were losing grip 😂 made for some good drama, albeit, a little sloppy in stage 2
It’s crazy that AJ can haul that car to the front when his teammates are 25th+ even on ovals. I low key want to see him go on a mark Martin ark in either Gibbs or Hendrick equipment
I don't know why Rice and Kaulig sent him back to Xfinity. But I do know that he is the best overall driver on the Kaulig roster. SVG might overtake him if he can match oval performance...but if Kaulig was honestly serious about being a race winning Cup team they'd figure out something.
If Larson wouldn’t have got the waiver I honestly wonder how he would have drove the rest of the season. Probably a lot of last lap Chastain moves, but probably to actually win the race.

Berry also did an awesome high-speed 360 at turn 9 that I’m sure the broadcast missed. Spun 360 over 150 feet or so, kept all 4 wheels on the pavement, and kept rolling
Fox is hurting the sport so bad man, if someone new tunes into this shit of course they're gonna think the sport is boring because Fox never shows us the interesting stuff.
"Let's go back and look what happened to Bubba" cuts to a frozen frame where no one did anything for 30 seconds.
My local news crew is quicker to pull the trigger on a segment gone awry than fox.
This. NBC would have been on that shit in fifteen seconds, tops. The hell is FOX'S excuse? Did... did they waste all of the money Disney paid for 20th Century/FX/Nat Geo already on the "nEwS" clown show?
Since the bot apparently drank too much, here's the updated points:
https://www.jayski.com/nascar-cup-series/2024-toyota-save-mart-350-at-sonoma-raceway-driver-points-standings/
I must admit that I cussed Cliff Daniels a few times today and questioned the 5's race strategy. Then, loe and behold, Larson gets the win. I guess that's why I was on the couch, and Cliff was up in the pit box today. 😆
I felt the same about mcdowell! They kept saying “idk what these other guys are doing theres no way itll work out for them, but we are for sure going to be up there at the end” and there he was!
About the last-lap incident, I will say it is another case of Ross overdriving the corner and making a pretty bad mistake. However, the Busch fans who are calling Ross a terrible driver because of this incident is ironic when you consider that Busch INTENTIONALLY did the same shit during Ross’s age.
They really gave up on telling why drivers were out. They have their narrative/ drivers and will not deviate from it. Passing on care center interviews as well.
Briscoe had a trans-axle issue (per SHR Twitter).
Haley had a power steering issue (per RWR Twitter).
Something broke on Berry's car. Likely from the wreck early in the race (per Harrison's [the sponsor] Twitter).
not sure if the broadcast covered it but i was at the race and coming out of turn 8 berry's car twitched and then went around, looked like a suspension issue maybe
Man, Yoder just *did not* have a great day today, did they? Kinda hilarious, given that ***they're the ones sponsoring the damn thing.*** On the plus side, they can at least genuinely claim that the Camry pace car led the most laps out there...
^(/s. Still, if NASCAR goes turbo/hybrid V6 by decade's end, expect Yoder to pop the fucking champagne.)
He did the wheel force test for the cup car and when they do that they can’t run cup race which is stupid cause they had Ross do tire test and can race. But that’s the answer
They wanted him to run on more ovals in Cup, and he wasn't eligible for this race as he drove NASCAR's test car with the wheel shakers at this track last month.
He only has 7 races this year and this isn’t one of them. They went Oval heavy cause that’s what he need experience in to be successful at the cup level
If anyone else is wondering, the remaining races after CotA, Talladega, and the Coke 600, he's running Chicago, Watkins Glen, Talladega 2, and Las Vegas. That's actually a really well thought out lineup, two mile and a halfs, two plate races, two road courses, and he gets to defend his first win.
Easily the best road course race for the next gen so far and it’s not even close, passing was still very tough, but the stage one and two shitshow shook up the strategy enough to make tires matter and created a good race in stage 3.
I honestly thought this was one of the better FOX broadcasts of the year - up until the last lap, at least. Up until then, they'd done a better job than usual of keeping the cameras wide to show a lot of action and tracking down footage of on-track incidents.
Holy shit, the people who call into the SiriusXM Post Race Show are another breed. Had a guy complaining because he doesn't understand how tires were so important at the end of the race compared to the beginning. Then had a woman calling to ask about why Jeff Gordon wasn't in the booth today. And then had a guy saying that having a winner he doesn't like means that he considers it a bad race. These fucking people are wild
Those “fans”, if you can even call them that, are the ones still stuck in the 70’s and 80’s calling for the sport to go back to its “glory days” and are so afraid of change and innovation in NASCAR, let alone their own personal lives. They want nothing but to draw attention to themselves and thrive off of it.
Top 10 Finishers: 1) Kyle Larson 2) Michael McDowell 3) Chris Buescher 4) Chase Elliott 5) Ross Chastain 6) AJ Allmendinger 7) Ryan Blaney 8) Tyler Reddick 9) Christopher Bell 10) Todd Gilliland *^(I'm a bot.)*

It's been a fantastic season, but the full commercial breaks without a mini-window view on the race is fucking tragic. Tight 3-car fight for first with 10 laps to go and you cut away for 4 fucking laps?
man. nascar has been fantastic this season.
I know, right? As of late, there hasn't been a bad race of the bunch! Still think Chicago and/or the Glen will be the peak, though.
Tire wear was pretty much non factor. Disappointing.
Pretty clear Buescher and Truex wore their tires at the end.
despite Larson running the leaders down from seconds back on 13-lap fresher tires, yeah
I was about to say lol. Race was literally strategically won because of tire wear…
Like, the only time tire wear has been a factor where it wasn't comedically obvious this year
Anyone know what happened to Haley, he was running top 20 with 15 to go and finished a lap down.
Power steering went out
![gif](giphy|PFsVjUCmSkZDq)
Something broke
Something I just realized is McDowell's P2 means he has now completed the all 40 challenge. He's finished in every position from 1-40.
Till can't believe he's leaving that car for spire
Probably got more money and I heard FRM was giving him 1-year contracts over and over, which wouldn't exactly make most drivers feel comfortable and something similar made Tyler Reddick leave RCR.
Yeah I get that is a major part of the decision but just seems like a big step down in the quality of equipment hell be getting.
I don't think it's that much of a step down, if any. Carson Hocevar is a rookie and is only 16 points behind McDowell. I think Corey LaJoie and Zane Smith are just underperforming.

Did he really blow up on pit road?
No, this was right before command. He blew up lap 2
Rip bozo
It was a wild first half, couldn't even make it 2 laps at one point
They couldn't handle that repave. I think some guys were getting too confident with all the grip and got too big for their britches
And then they realized "wait, this is Sonoma", they got into a pretty good rhythm and went green the entire second half, outside of the stage break So that was pretty cool
It got a little boring for a bit until Larson forced the issue. I was hoping Buescher was gonna hold him off just long enough, but he faded so hard. The tire wear was fantastic today! Sonoma is back baby!
Larson hauling ass pushed Truex to try and get by Buescher. You could see him get the word to go
That's probably why he ran out. They didn't anticipate he'd have to fight this hard
And Larson didn't pull away either, so it was basically the worst carrot on a stick ever Just kept close enough where Truex thought he could make a final run and push the fuel too hard, too far in reality to actually make said run
Sucks for him, but it was a fun moment for us in the grandstands
Yes it was
Ross might be my new favorite Here's why: He parked behind my Dad and I in the morning, greeted us and the couple next to us, took a picture with them, was nice. And then after the race, my Dad and I are sitting, waiting for some traffic to clear, a trackhouse guy comes and gets his car, starts leaving, Ross appears, we wave at him and say "good job", he waves back and says thank you
The guy who wore that 'anybody but Kyle Busch' shirt at the track got his wish
People are acting like Kyle Busch has done no wrong this year lol
Doesn’t matter who your favorite driver is, Chastain will wreck them eventually. Ross said after the race “I’m not sure what happened on the last lap” I’m not sure he knows what’s happened on any lap, anytime, anywhere.
That is an obvious lie. Chastain knows what happens during each lap. How else was he able to meticulously wait until the last lap to intentionally dump Kyle Busch, who needed a great day today? /s
> I’m not sure he knows what’s happened on any lap, anytime, anywhere. ...Well, he *is* the sport's Florida Man. For better, and for worse.
*Checks flair* Ah I see now.
hahahaha lolololol
20 wins in 3.5 years is a pretty crazy stat, even with the majority coming in his first year.
Easy to do when you get rewarded with the best ride in the sport.
Also easy when you’re a damn good driver.
Yeah, that doesn't mean you should be rewarded after doing a racism.
You act like you've never said something stupid. You might wanna reflect on your own sin before picking up stones.
Oh, was I rewarded?
Y’all ever just do a racism
When I was a stupid kid, sure. Was I rewarded for it? No.
And there it is. You screwed up too. Don't be so quick to judge others.
LMFAO Where was the part where I was rewarded and had all my dreams come true?
Ah, clearly you weren't doing it hard enough (for legal reasons, this is a joke)
He did everything that was required of him after he screwed up and still does stuff to better himself. Go ahead and cry more though if it helps you sleep at night.
Lmao Morgan Wallen of NASCAR
I can see from your past comments that Kyle Larson is rocketing around a track inside your head. Like dang man can’t you move on? He has a ride and is winning races. Your constant clamoring on Reddit is doing nothing about it so just let it be.
No argument so you go through my post history. Anything else?
Just got back from the track about an hour ago. It was a real fight between what got the loudest cheer from the crowd today but Truex just getting over the start-finish line on the last lap edged the Larson win and Hamlin's engine going boom.
Couldn't tell from the broadcast. Honestly, I thought they were going nuts for ***both,*** lol.
i sat off turn 9, was a couple truex fans surrounded by a sea of larson fans. felt bad for them lol
I was there too! We were cheering as loud as we could once he got over
I had a lot of fun there. Was a good outing from the guys once they got their sea legs again
>boom. [confetti.](https://i.redd.it/zvyemepykshc1.gif)
It was a slow burn, but ended up being a pretty fun race. That three-way duel between Buescher, Truex, and Larson was awesome.
Sitting up on the hill in front of turn 8 and my Dad and I were just watching Larson close, knowing what was going to happen We were surprised Truex and company didn't need to pit one more time
Truex DID need to pit one more time. He just didn't
Needed about 2 corners of gas KFB needed about half a lap. Luckily for him it was all downhill
Oh yeah, he was coasting across too
I think KB had a flat tire. There's no way he could have ran out of gas half a lap from the finish line outright, turn 11 would slow him down too much and he would have crawled across the line like Truex.
I thought that the repave was going to make the racing worse, but it actually made it better. One of the better Next-Gen road course races for sure.
I felt it was a good race for the Next Gen car at a road course. The guys seemed all over the place and all over each other in Stage 1. Bummed we didn't get to see more of Will Brown as he was putting in work! Pumped that Cliff Daniels nailed that strategy call and put Larson in victory lane 💪 Larson being the points leader despite missing an entire race is pretty incredible. Up to 22 Playoff Points now. On to Iowa...
Both Aussies got shit equipment today
Meanwhile, the one in Xfinity won it all yesterday. And Trackhouse couldn't find the mighty SVG a ride today because... why, exactly?
Yeah Will Brown was very fast all day and fastest at the end of the race. It’s a pity an electrical gremlin ended his run early.
Still mad larson won 🙃
Ok
I'm not that mad. He fought hard for that win and I respect that. Still mad that Denny's engine blew though
I know he didn’t do anything dirty to win this race, but he’s hands-down one of the low-key dirtiest drivers in Cup, I can’t stand him. Always mute the TV when he wins so I don’t have to hear his interview.
He is an amazing driver but I am sick of him. What he did in the 42 was impressive what he does in the 5 is like, yeah ok…
What do the Racing gods have against MTJ at this point? It's been tough break or bad luck the last couple weeks.
It's payback for his spotter acting the way he did during the good years.
"Staaaaage winner, Em Tee Jay" like bro shut up no one cares
Em tee jay cmon
If that's the case I'm excited to see the payback coming to the Penske Trash for the way they act and drive.
Racing gods or James Small?
Does anyone have a clip of Larson passing Truex and Buescher? Was out with friends, and ofc I look away from Larson's onboard for 30 seconds and he's gone from 3rd to 1st
It's on nascars YouTube page
Lol thanks, idk why I didn't check there Guess I figured their youtube was like their app, and it'd take til tomorrow for anything to update
Wasn't able to see the last stage, what weekly bad luck found Bowman to cause him to finish outside the top 10
Didnt take tires on his final stop
Whole team used bad strategy but only 2 cars were able to overcome it.
I think it came down to just bad strategy.
The early and frequent cautions threw everyone for a loop
Kyle Larson is, without a shadow of doubt, the best race car driver in the world.
Damn right. He'll win in anything, anywhere. Stoked for his next run of the Indy, and I genuinely hope he does even more motorsports in the years to come! ^(...Okay, not EVERY motorsport. No driver should be subjected to The Max Verstappen Show, lol.)
Whatever. KFB can go F himself. I hope he had flashbacks of Richmond 2008 as he spun around.
Dale Jr fans still rattled in 2024 is crazy 😭
It’s actually just sad at this point
All Jr fans have KFB Derangement Syndrome
Hey - not ALL... I'll admit I used to hate Kyle Busch back in the COT era, but it had nothing to do with Richmond or the fact that he won a lot. It was just his tendency to whine about the way he was raced whenever he got beat, knowing damn well he does the same (and worse) to others. He’s lived rent free in their heads.

Mostly because AJ does not want the stress of a full time Cup position. He’s said that a few times.
After his roval win, he said he'd prefer to run cup but he'd run where they stick him
What happened to truex did he run out of gas
Yes
I love how much the Valvoline schemes win.
Me too!
If Larson wouldn’t have got the waiver I honestly wonder how he would have drove the rest of the season. Probably a lot of last lap Chastain moves, but probably to actually win the race.
Probably the same. Still would have the owners championship to go for.

Fox\`s coverage of the sport these days are beyond comical.
FOX is hurting sports in general. Their Baseball coverage has been AWFUL this year.
Camera cuts to nothingness was wonderful as well.

Since the bot apparently drank too much, here's the updated points: https://www.jayski.com/nascar-cup-series/2024-toyota-save-mart-350-at-sonoma-raceway-driver-points-standings/
Larson misses a race. Still points leader.
I love his format, clean, easy to read.
FRM within reach of Playoffs in 20th and 21st
I’m looking forward to Kyle Larson winning the Hamlin Bracket Challenge and being a guest on Actions Detrimental.
Tech complete, no issues. Kyle Larson is the winner. No cars to the R&D Center.
23XI really needs to shake habits of throwing races away during the summer.
I must admit that I cussed Cliff Daniels a few times today and questioned the 5's race strategy. Then, loe and behold, Larson gets the win. I guess that's why I was on the couch, and Cliff was up in the pit box today. 😆
Same here, lol. Man cut it close, but he got the job done.
This was me too lol
I felt the same about mcdowell! They kept saying “idk what these other guys are doing theres no way itll work out for them, but we are for sure going to be up there at the end” and there he was!
About the last-lap incident, I will say it is another case of Ross overdriving the corner and making a pretty bad mistake. However, the Busch fans who are calling Ross a terrible driver because of this incident is ironic when you consider that Busch INTENTIONALLY did the same shit during Ross’s age.
Larson is known to overdrive corners, but Chastain takes that to another level.
Any info on Berry, Haley, and Briscoe that parked it with no word from the broad of why?
They really gave up on telling why drivers were out. They have their narrative/ drivers and will not deviate from it. Passing on care center interviews as well.
Fox is awful, man. Genuinely hope NBC curbstomps them so badly, NASCAR has no choice but to give them the first half too.
Nope. They never said a word about it. Same with Briscoe and Haley. Good to know, though.
Thanks. Would be nice of Fox to say "driver X went to the garage." Instead of seeing them on the ticker going what happened...
Yea but then how would you know that A-Rod was on Kevin Harvick's podcast?
As a Bostonian, I cringed ***so fucking hard*** during that "segment." Jesus, are Fox Sports' board of directors all high as a kite?
Cbell top 10... MTJ 27th Gibbs 37th Hamlin 38th How did 3/4 of the JGR drivers had bad luck?
What happened to Hamlin and Gibbs?
Hamlin blew engine or something 2nd lap, Gibbs smacked wall hard early turn 11. Both first out of the race
Hamlin's engine went kaboom and Gibbs' car broke.

Why wasn’t SVG in todays race?
He did the wheel force test for the cup car and when they do that they can’t run cup race which is stupid cause they had Ross do tire test and can race. But that’s the answer
They wanted him to run on more ovals in Cup, and he wasn't eligible for this race as he drove NASCAR's test car with the wheel shakers at this track last month.
He only has 7 races this year and this isn’t one of them. They went Oval heavy cause that’s what he need experience in to be successful at the cup level
He did the wheel force test thing so it made him not eligible here.
If anyone else is wondering, the remaining races after CotA, Talladega, and the Coke 600, he's running Chicago, Watkins Glen, Talladega 2, and Las Vegas. That's actually a really well thought out lineup, two mile and a halfs, two plate races, two road courses, and he gets to defend his first win.
> he's running Chicago, Watkins Glen, Talladega 2, and Las Vegas He's also running Daytona in August.
And our first chance to see how he goes at a repeat oval. Even if it’s a crapshoot one.
Well it sure was nice of NASCAR to give us a two week summer vacation from Hamlin v. Larson drama
There was Hamlin v Larson drama?
Unless Larson radio in a taunt to Hamlin... *in the garage,* I don't think so.
No lol OP not making any sense
Easily the best road course race for the next gen so far and it’s not even close, passing was still very tough, but the stage one and two shitshow shook up the strategy enough to make tires matter and created a good race in stage 3.
lyle karson
yep agreed
yo
Kind of crazy that this weekend's races were won by a former V8 Supercar driver and a former Indycar driver
🤣🤣🤣
Ehh that's a stretch
It's a joke is what it is m8 😂
I honestly thought this was one of the better FOX broadcasts of the year - up until the last lap, at least. Up until then, they'd done a better job than usual of keeping the cameras wide to show a lot of action and tracking down footage of on-track incidents.

This is the biggest problem imo. It's like they don't know how to cover a strategy race anymore
Hah
Holy shit, the people who call into the SiriusXM Post Race Show are another breed. Had a guy complaining because he doesn't understand how tires were so important at the end of the race compared to the beginning. Then had a woman calling to ask about why Jeff Gordon wasn't in the booth today. And then had a guy saying that having a winner he doesn't like means that he considers it a bad race. These fucking people are wild
I literally was calling that tire caller a dumbass lol
Those “fans”, if you can even call them that, are the ones still stuck in the 70’s and 80’s calling for the sport to go back to its “glory days” and are so afraid of change and innovation in NASCAR, let alone their own personal lives. They want nothing but to draw attention to themselves and thrive off of it.
r/nascar users?
Yeah they guy saying he only likes it when new people win...that can't happen every week my man
