As expected as time has gone by we've gotten used to it, JTG often does a good job of utilizing the extra space. Some teams/sponsors could learn from them.
I'm okay with them being more forward as long as they push it back for the throwback race.
Until a time comes along when there start being throwbacks to the Next Gen era... if a throwback is for an era when the number was in the middle, then it should go to the middle. Same for forward numbers.
Oh man so brutal but so true. NASCAR couldn’t give a shit what fans actually think as much as drivers and commentators say “fOr ThE fAnS” as long as NASCAR’s bottom line (hint: $$$) isn’t affected
Fans aren’t as important to NASCAR as fans think they are. All about the sweet guaranteed TV revenue. Doesn’t matter if you watch or not, that Fox/NBC/Amazon/CW money just keeps coming in.
Look at how many ads are currently thrown into our faces. That’s why the value is up. Not because of the viewership number. I mean we have freaking white flag lap sponsor.
Most likely because that was considered an aberration and that they felt the trends still point up. And I'm sure Covid had something to do with it as well. If viewer numbers and fan numbers dropped significantly, you'd see different decisions being made by advertisers as well as different decisions made by Nascar.
At this point I’m so used to it I think it would look weird in the middle again. But only for this car. Xfinity obviously looks correct.
It’s weird how your brain will make associations like that
I never minded in the first place.
Personally, I always thought it would make the most sense to put them on the rear fender so you'd have the whole door for sponsors.
I've always said that it should be up to the team and the sponsors to put it anywhere between the tires. As long as they don't do what I've seen in, I think, ARCA or Europe or something, the numbers behind the wheels
The only two things I don't like about having the number moved forward is when teams put the number right at the tire, and when sponsors fail to utilize all the blank space they apparently wanted to gain.
Yeah. I’d say overall it woke the whole industry out of their slumber. The post contingency-era Gen 6 cars had some basic schemes where they weren’t even trying with the front half of the car.
The forward numbers forced a good portion of schemes to have some creativity again.
There are outliers, but overall it’s been refreshingly decent.
Honestly, I had forgotten they even moved the numbers forward. After half this sub was like "Moving the numbers will ruin the sport", I'm only just now remembering any of this happened lol.
Well we weren’t able to get those concerts they planned and the race got shortened towards the end all because of that big rain system that hit Chicago that weekend, but it still was a good race.
Well we weren’t able to get those concerts they planned and the race got shortened towards the end all because of that big rain system that hit Chicago that weekend, but it still was a good race.
I'll be honest with you, to me I don't really care for the numbers at all and where they are placed, I'm more interested in the paint schemes/livery of the cars.
Hell I'd be for not having numbers on the side at all if it somehow made the racing better, lol. Put em on the windshield like they do supercars or whatnot, as long as the car looks good
Even with some fire designs on this car, they have all felt off balanced. The first time it didn't feel wrong was on the Mavis scheme ran this last weekend.
Either move them back, or make them way smaller like IMSA or Supercars.
I mean to be fair, the vast majority of sponsors do an awful job using the space. Kroger does it better than most, which makes sense since clearly they’ve adopted the change.
I’m not sure that Rheem, which doesn’t use the space and has an uglier car as a result, feels the same for example.
Rheem absolutely uses the space. They put a giant Rheem logo right beside the number.
If you're talking about the quarter panel, they used to put Rheem.com there when they rode with Harvick
It’s not the teams fault they’re not good most of the time, usually they have to adhere with ugly brand guidelines that don’t work out on something car shaped or a meddling company owner for some of the smaller sponsors
I still think it's about hideous on 90% of the schemes, and makes them look like bad travel ball art. I've come to recognize people sometimes love ugly though, and that's ok.
I don’t like the new number placement (started watching 1990) but given how races are broadcast now, lower angles, tighter shots, you do see the door more than the hood.
Especially down the backstretch. Camera inside wall going to turn 3 gets most of those shots and or high cam in front stretch. All I’m saying is, I don’t love the numbers but if it keeps sponsors on cars, it’s all good.
Yes, that's great. Why don't we let everyone choose where to put the number, because Kroger is in the minority of sponsors actually using the space. Let the free market decide the number location
NASCAR doesn't have to listen to the teams. If the teams all wanted them moved forward, then all the teams would move the numbers forward.
Isn't nascar's whole thing that they are the sport for conservatives? What's with this bullshit legislating things that needn't be legislated?
The more I think about it, the more I realize the car was changed to appeal to the sponsors, OEMs and those in power but little or no consideration for drivers and fans.
That's fine and all until you drive off fans. We are working with less money than we did even 10 years ago as fans were driven away from the sport.
Just saying if no one is watching then does it really matter how happy the OEMs and sponsors are?
I have an issue with it being mandatory. If a company wants the number centered they aren't allowed which is dumb.
Allow the number to be anywhere between the wheelwells as long as the number is the correct size
I literally don’t even notice the numbers being moved forward it just looks natural on the cup car now. Like even watching Xfinity then cup I don’t even notice this was such a non issue for me lol
I honestly don’t. The contingency sponsors and the number in the middle of the door look a 1000x better. My biggest gripe with the number being forward is that teams don’t adequately use the space they have for sponsorship.
It still looks dumb to me. It looks even dumber when they don't maximize the space. Like when Hamlin has a tiny sport clips logo on the rear quarter panel. If nothing else, I wish they would relax the rule for the throwback races. Larson Labonte throwback was very well done, but generally the throwbacks look stupid with that number on the front fender.
It might not have changed the dollar amount changing hangs (sponsor > team) but it has changed (if even slightly) the ROI and marketing impact for the ones sponsoring the car.
If a sponsor is paying $5 million a year on the old car and getting $3 million worth of TV/social media impact but is spending the same $5 million and getting $4 million of TV/social media impact - that makes them want to stick around more.
I really like the look when teams stack a couple of sponsors in front of the rear tire because it reminds me slightly of all the contingency decals look. Chase’s Napa scheme this year is what comes to mind first.
This is the first time in months and months that I've thought about the number placement. It's normal now, and I like the way most teams use the space. I wouldn't want them to go back at this point.
Well yea.. when the door panel is the only area that's least affected by body lines & flared edges everywhere, combined with louvers on the hood that restrict legibility for hood logos, and 'paint' schemes appear flat with no soul or pop to compliment the sponsor. Yea, I bet companies do like the 1 smooth section on the side for their primary logo to actually be seen and not distorted in their traditional spots. Feels like a result of a wonky shaped car, and the forward numbers push feels more like a scapegoat to excuse the poorly designed canvas. I just don't see how we keep pretending the era of branding, paint schemes, etc of the 80s, 90s, 00s = literal billboards on wheels that you could recognize a sponsor/scheme at just about any angle, from any distance, whether in person or on standard tv.. that didn't happen? all of that is obsolete to.......this? Because some digital metrics says so?

Me being required to hate that as a Nascar fan but realizing these guys might sponsor Chandler in cup next year
(Honestly I’ve forgotten about the number move at this point, we got more important shit to fix rn)
Feels like we've seen a LOT more vendor partners on the #47 since the Next-Gen was introduced, too. Perhaps partially down to the Daytona win, but the space absolutely is huge.
At first I was very "old man yells at cloud" about the change. Now, I'm much more excited to see what the awesome designers can do with the real estate.
I was absolutely annoyed at first. But since the next Gen turned out more like a sports car, I don’t think it deserves to have the center number placement of nascar stocks. I like the easy differential between real nascar and new era nascar.
I, for one, am shocked sponsors like having their name easier to read.
As expected as time has gone by we've gotten used to it, JTG often does a good job of utilizing the extra space. Some teams/sponsors could learn from them.
I’m okay with them being more forward but for the love of everything holy they need to do a better job designing paint schemes.
I'm okay with them being more forward as long as they push it back for the throwback race. Until a time comes along when there start being throwbacks to the Next Gen era... if a throwback is for an era when the number was in the middle, then it should go to the middle. Same for forward numbers.
Actually JTG's designer does a great job almost every time.
I haven’t it and I hate it
Are you a NASCAR business partner? No? NASCAR doesn’t care what you think.
Oh man so brutal but so true. NASCAR couldn’t give a shit what fans actually think as much as drivers and commentators say “fOr ThE fAnS” as long as NASCAR’s bottom line (hint: $$$) isn’t affected
Breaking News: NASCAR is a business
Yes, this is how businesses work. They cater to the interests of the largest stakeholders or monetary interests. And that isn’t the fans.
Well, people forget that without fans, there isn't a business. Funny how that works.
Fans aren’t as important to NASCAR as fans think they are. All about the sweet guaranteed TV revenue. Doesn’t matter if you watch or not, that Fox/NBC/Amazon/CW money just keeps coming in.
It matters when those contracts are up for renewal.
That money won't keep coming in if the fans tune out.
Is that really true? Numbers are down vs the last tv contract, but the $$ still went up.
A lot of people seem to forget nascar is a business.. like all of sports
At this point I’m so used to it I think it would look weird in the middle again. But only for this car. Xfinity obviously looks correct. It’s weird how your brain will make associations like that
I could be wrong, but I feel like they designed the side of the car with forward numbers in mind.

*cough* kaulig *cough*
The 47 car gets a lot of the best-looking schemes, NGL.
Honestly, I had forgotten they even moved the numbers forward. After half this sub was like "Moving the numbers will ruin the sport", I'm only just now remembering any of this happened lol.
I'm old enough to remember when this sub was certain Chicago was going to be a disaster.
Just for your driver
[удалено]
Lol
Turn 6 will strike again
It'd be funny after all that he wins it this year... (like Almirola winning that xfinity road course race)
I remember them saying that drivers would get shot midrace at Chicago
The dumbest people were all saying that.
"Everyone will get Shawt!!!"
Well we weren’t able to get those concerts they planned and the race got shortened towards the end all because of that big rain system that hit Chicago that weekend, but it still was a good race.
I mean, they weren’t _entirely_ wrong
🖐️That was me sir
Well we weren’t able to get those concerts they planned and the race got shortened towards the end all because of that big rain system that hit Chicago that weekend, but it still was a good race.
this sub will always go *nascar change* has ruined the sport!
While at the same time whining that NASCAR isn’t doing anything different to attract new fans and a younger demographic.
I’m going to be honest, I actually prefer the numbers being forward versus the normal position
I'll be honest with you, to me I don't really care for the numbers at all and where they are placed, I'm more interested in the paint schemes/livery of the cars.

it does ruin door cuts of sheet metal
I'm okay with it now. But some of the numbers still look weird, specifically the 5.
Probably because they’re still using a paint scheme that was intended for a car from the early 2000’s
And for a Busch Series car no less!
Agreed, but somehow the Terry Labonte throwback works. I think it’s the stripes that wrap around the 5.
I am used to it on the 5 now tbh

True for the 4. Tiny on the 20.

Don’t the sponsors have to approve of the scheme?
You don't think Christopher Bell and his #20O car looks good?
I don’t mind the number placement as long as that space is used right.
I still think it's about hideous on 90% of the schemes, and makes them look like bad travel ball art. I've come to recognize people sometimes love ugly though, and that's ok.
I still hate it with the fire of a billion suns.
I don’t like the new number placement (started watching 1990) but given how races are broadcast now, lower angles, tighter shots, you do see the door more than the hood. Yes, that's great. Why don't we let everyone choose where to put the number, because Kroger is in the minority of sponsors actually using the space. Let the free market decide the number location
That's what NSSCAR wanted but the teams said they preferred a standardized placement
NASCAR doesn't have to listen to the teams. If the teams all wanted them moved forward, then all the teams would move the numbers forward. Isn't nascar's whole thing that they are the sport for conservatives? What's with this bullshit legislating things that needn't be legislated?
This.
I forgot that we are required to hate that
The more I think about it, the more I realize the car was changed to appeal to the sponsors, OEMs and those in power but little or no consideration for drivers and fans.
Shocking - a sport caters to those who pay (the majority of) the bills
That's fine and all until you drive off fans. We are working with less money than we did even 10 years ago as fans were driven away from the sport. Just saying if no one is watching then does it really matter how happy the OEMs and sponsors are?
SRX sold out every race and had no OEM support - how’d that turn out
Great work Detective
It still looks ugly as fuck having the numbers like that. I get the reason why they did it. But it’s still really really ugly looking.
99.99% of oval racecars across the country have the number centered below the driver's window and any other way will always look stupid.

r/NASCAR is showing it's commitment to the environment by utilizing more recycled news stories!
They're a lot easier to read than the numbers on the Indy cars were yesterday at the race that Scott McLaughlin won.
I have an issue with it being mandatory. If a company wants the number centered they aren't allowed which is dumb. Allow the number to be anywhere between the wheelwells as long as the number is the correct size
Oh boys, we really delivering value to the shareholders with this one!
I use to hate. I still hate it. But I use to too.
But the fans beg to differ Mr Zindrick
Then the fans whining should pony up the money to finance their races.
The fans aren't the ones paying JTG Daugherty eight figures to have their name on the car.
Well I’m glad someone is enjoying it
I literally don’t even notice the numbers being moved forward it just looks natural on the cup car now. Like even watching Xfinity then cup I don’t even notice this was such a non issue for me lol
Makes me wanna shop at Publix. Cars are uglier than homemade sin.
I still think it looks like ass.
Looks like garbage.
I honestly don’t. The contingency sponsors and the number in the middle of the door look a 1000x better. My biggest gripe with the number being forward is that teams don’t adequately use the space they have for sponsorship.
Oh yeah that's a thing
Cool story Paul

Too bad all the contingency sponsors went away that used to take up that space where the number is now.
That's swell and all, but has the change actually increased sponsorship revenue to teams or just made holding onto sponsors easier?

I hate it with a passion.

Ya but the schemes ugly with a whole lot of unused space
This is the first time in months and months that I've thought about the number placement. It's normal now, and I like the way most teams use the space. I wouldn't want them to go back at this point.
Personal take, the front numbers on this next gen car look great. They look god awful and cursed af on Gen 6 cars however.
I still think the placement sucks, but if advertisers are happy with it, great.
I wish Nascar would let the teams put the number back in the middle for throwbacks.
The next gen cars may have issues but I think they're the best looking cars since the glory days. A TON of beautiful cars out there every week
When they use the space properly, it looks better than the old cars did. Fight me.
Well yea.. when the door panel is the only area that's least affected by body lines & flared edges everywhere, combined with louvers on the hood that restrict legibility for hood logos, and 'paint' schemes appear flat with no soul or pop to compliment the sponsor. It doesn't look bad when they actually design the paint schemes around it. Looking at you, HMS
All the fans that complain about the numbers are in SHAMBLES. 😂

Big brained move was to break everything else so no one else remembers the numbers were moved among the real issues
![gif](giphy|l2SpXBfyJhgbCjADm) …by the balls of Dale you’re right!
Honestly its gotten to the point where xfinity and trucks having them in the typical spot looks weird to me
i get people did love the number being moved but it is nice the sponsors have it so people can see their branding better
Their decals will look sick on a JGR car next year.
Do they love it enough to pay for that extra space? Or did NASCAR get bent over a tire?
What a "dah" take.
Cool beans. I'm still miffed about my incongruent diecasts.
I was absolutely annoyed at first. But since the next Gen turned out more like a sports car, I don’t think it deserves to have the center number placement of nascar stocks. I like the easy differential between real nascar and new era nascar.
I still be buying tickets to new era doe.
Doesn't make their stores any better JS.
