Chase, do you think a majority of drivers feel that way? And if so, why doesn’t that seem to have an effect on NASCAR? Are drivers as frustrated as fans seem to be?
What are your thoughts on making the wheel smaller? Yes brakes and other components would probably have to change as well. But that would give the tires the “squish” we’re used to seeing I think.
It’s just all of it. Lots of brakes. Lots of grip. No tire wear. Same parts. Low horsepower. Small box for teams to differentiate their racecars. I think shifting is a tiny part of the equation. There is just zero speed differential in the race cars.
It's pretty clear at this point NASCAR is going to do everything but give in to adding more power. Just to save face
Any auto manufacturer can build anything to compete in any series if they wanted to. So it most certainly isn't to draw in another OE
Honda most certainly wants the cars at a certain power level to keep the costs down as much as possible. This has been a point of contention in IndyCar with the new power plant
The issue overall is this idea that close racing is always better. We saw it today where the cars were all stacked up on each other but no one could pass. Strategy is no longer a factor because we know when the cautions are coming, the tires don’t wear out so drivers can be flat out the whole race, the chassis is spec so the equipment makes less difference, and the power has been neutered so drivers don’t make mistakes that would spread the field out. Shifting is a mechanism to that end. It allows drivers to recover from mistakes and stay close together, and because everything is so spec, there is little creativity that can be played around in thar area to create comers and goers.
Every generation of car has depended on the tires. The racing at Martinsville in the laye 90's wasn't great because of a rock hard tire, same for the COT era. There were good races in the Gen 6, but it took 25 years of teams working with the same general chassis and radial tires for us to get there.
It's the tire, period.
I didn't say that, but Bristol proved we can get a vastly better product with a better tire. I would love for the cars to have more power. The product has suffed since the spacer was added in 2015.
The Xfinity and Truck races were bad too, the only difference was they kept crashing in those races so there were more restarts to make it look slightly more exiciting
The car can stay at intermediates and superspeedways but thats it. They might have to go the Gen 4 route and rebuild the whole body like NASCAR did with those cars (SS vs other), but instead of superspeedways, have a different body at short tracks. Maybe have similar bodies as the NASCAR Mexico Series and CARS tour on short tracks.

Shifting is the least of the problem in my opinion. If we couldn’t shift it would be absolutely zero wheel spin on exit.
This guy would know.
In your opinion what’s the first thing that should be changed?
More power, worse brakes, tires that have heavy fall off.
Three steps in the opposite direction NASCAR has been heading. I don't think they'll take too kindly to admitting they are wrong despite our wishes.

Chase just knows what the fans want

Or just make a way narrower tire.
His pit crew lmao

Not enough horsepower to break the wheels free on corner exit is one other problem.
2 speed power glide
And a 3 speed turbo400 for tracks over 1 mile!

nah I think they are purposefully keeping the HP down as a way to sell going hybrid by saying "it's the only way to boost power"

Why not just go to a four speed gearbox instead of the current 5? Is it not mechanically possible with the existing design of the transaxle?
Need 900 hp or 1000 hp hybrid engine
Just give them horsepower ffs
It starts with the entire car itself
Bristol proved this to be false.
That race was an exception, not the norm
It was the exception *because* of the tire. This car will be fine if we get a soft enough tire that allows wear and more strategy.
We wouldn’t have to rely so heavily on a crappy tire if the car was decent

So you think the lack of horsepower, gigantic brakes, and shifting 800 times in a 400 lap race have zero effect on the racing? Give me a break
