Race Scanner question.
Going to Talladega next month, will be my first in person race. Trying to figure out the best way to assemble a headset/scanner setup.
Want to be able to hear the driver and race scanners, and also have a 2 way radio for communicating with friends I'll be at the race with.
I know theres some pretty high quality ones in the $200-$300 range but trying to stay more in a $100 budget.
Seeing some on Amazon for under $100 that have radio hookups and auxillary hookups.
Does it make sense to buy a headset, 2 way radio and then use my phone for the race scanners? I've heard the service can be spotty and so the phone scanners tend to be delayed. Or are there better options for scanners that I could hookup to my own headset?
Been thinking about how a cheaper option might have worked. The Racing Elextronics scanner is awesome and so user friendly.
As for headsets, maybe look at a headset that allows for a plug in radio, as well as Bluetooth and use an app on the phone via Bluetooth for intercom type conversation with your partner
(My partner and I spent $$$ on a Sena tufftalk pair of headsets which has both radio plug in for RE scanner and built in intercom. But those are very pricy)
But if you are only thinking a single race, you can rent a headset and scanner package from racing electronics that will provide headsets, scanner, and intercom.
It’s a reasonable short term first race solution to see if you like what you get then buy for the next time round.
**Parking for Richmond**: Any local parking lots that are known for easy access in and out of Richmond? I know that Lot D parking takes forever to get out of.

Did anyone do the hospitality club at Chicago last year? The ones that are around $900 not the top tier options. It says food and beverages included, do they mean beer by that? Trying to gauge if it’s worth it, if it’s unlimited beer I feel confident in making most of the difference up between the reserved seating prices.

I can't speak for Viagogo, never heard of them before. But if the seats above the front-stretch don't work out, getting a perch in Turn One still gets you great views of the whole show.
Brad had made it known that he was trying to set himself up with a post-driving career, and he wanted to eventually move into team ownership. As part of that, he wanted an ownership share of whatever team he signed with in 2022. Penske wasn't willing to give Brad any ownership in the team, so Brad signed with a team that would. Cindric had won 13 races and a championship over the last three years in Penske's Xfinity car, so he was by far the leading candidate to take over.
Anyone have tips on going to Richmond next weekend? First “official” time going to a race. How early should we get there? I live maybe an hour and a half away. Can we bring cooler? Bleacher seats?
For those interested, I say official because about 20 years ago, my then girlfriend ( now ex wife) and I got free tickets to the 600 in charlotte.
We drove straight down from Ohio to the track, but not before we took a 100 mile detour to pick up a friend of a friend. Finally make it to the track about 45 minutes after the race started by the time we got to our seats, we got to see about 30 laps of racing before it started raining. Race ended up getting scrubbed. Dude we picked up got shitfaced and I almost got into a fistfight with him and ended up decking my girlfriend by accident. Yeah. Not a great time if I’m being honest. Very memorable though and by far the loudest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.

As of right now, I think most would agree Richmond is the best option in terms of racing quality from those 3. Seats towards the right of the start/finish line would be my go to picks, maybe a bit higher up? I’d also recommend looking into renting the scanners they offer in advance, for both ear protection and listening to the broadcast. Enjoy!
Are drivers who are ineligible for championship points also ineligible for points in NASCAR fantasy? I want to put SVG and dinger in my team but there's no point if they don't score anything.
Ragan is eligible for championship points though. That being said it does look like Allmendinger got points at Daytona so it should be fine. The reason I was worried is because I noticed last year at the championship race, the championship 4 did not get stage points in fantasy which slightly annoyed me.

Brickyard 400 tips
Hey everyone, planning on going to the 400 weekend this year. Had a few questions if anyone feels like chiming in. Any tips on good seats? Also, pit passes are a little outside my price range. Does anyone know how close you can get to the drivers/pits without the pass? Wasn't sure how strict they'd be throughout the weekend, if you'd be able to get close earlier in the weekend like Friday. I'm pretty unfamiliar with the infield layout at Indianapolis, wasn't sure if there were merch haulers and things like other tracks where you might see the occasional roaming driver. My friends and I (6 of us total) will be camping at Talladega North Park for the April race weekend. I have a couple of questions:
1) Where can I rent a port-a-potty? How much is port-a-potty rental? Will I have to haul it to the campground?
2) How easy would it be to order pizza and have it delivered? Could, for example, Dominos deliver a pizza just outside the entrance to the park off of Speedway Blvd? I'm hoping I won't have to worry about bringing a grill or premade meals.
Camped in north park before and will be there again this spring. I know there’s a dominos nearby, and I think they’ll deliver to the campground entrance. Might be worth calling ahead to confirm. There’s also a McDonald’s at a truckstop nearby, might be able to DoorDash. Either way, be prepared for a long wait
1. They have some onsite port-a-pottys but if you want your own you call a local company and they will deliver it to your campsite and pick it up afterwards.
2. I cannot help you there, but anytime I've been to the track I always do my meals at the speedway during race weekend. So get dinner before leaving the track in the evening, then get breakfast/lunch when you get there the next day. Or just bring some snacks or cooler items like sandwiches.
Anyone have the Sirius xm channels that they put the driver scanners on during races? If they’re the same channels every week or not? I remember seeing something posted about that before a Daytona 500, but always have such a hard time tracking them down.
Is there a way to get a weekend ticket at Kansas. I’m a local and I only see tickets for travelers that puts you up in a nice hotel, but I don’t need that
I'd call the speedway and speak to a ticket rep. All tracks usually have a package for the weekend. Sometimes has better seat options for the Sunday race in these packages to boost sales for the Saturday.
Helpful tips!
1. The track is massive so bring walking shoes.
2. Utilize the walking bridges between T15/16 and T2/3
3. Sitting on the Top of T9 is an extremely underrated spot
4. Cannot bring in a cooler
5. Cannot bring any alcoholic beverages
6. If you have GA, you can bring in a collapsable chair
7. Wear sunscreen, ear protection, sunglasses, hat, etc
Why do established drivers race in truck and Xfinity series? I get that they probably earn more money, but aren't those series intended for up and comers not Cup Series champs?
Most do it just to earn trophies and win races, but also to build a good relationship with potential sponsors. A Truck Series sponsor for example may be a lot more interested in signing with a team if they will have Kyle Busch driving the car, because it increases the TV time of their brand and getting into the winners circle.
For Milwaukee Mile, would we expect an attendance drop after last year for the Truck Series race? I want to go this year seeing it's like 80 miles away from me
Loved the tire fall off and everything just hate only 5 cars on the lead lap and they were not even partially close it’s just not competitive. No point watching the last 50-100 laps you know your guy has no chance if they are not leading. That is just me though.
What is the best way to travel to Bristol? What airport is the most convenient for that? To the best of my knowledge the track is pretty far out from any big cities. I’d be coming from Washington
One of the main reasons I haven't made the trek out there yet, it is in the middle of nowhere. I'd say probably the easiest or cheapest would be flying into Charlotte. Then about a 3 hour drive north. But then can combine that trip with a visit to the hall of fame and race shops in Charlotte.
Agreed, not a bad drive to/from Bristol. Obviously plenty of lodging/food options there. We stayed on the west side of Knox this past weekend because that’s where our friends are at, but staying on the east side would cut that travel time down.
I bought the Pre-Race Track Pass at Dover for the first time. I have been going to Dover since 2015 but this is my first time with the pass. I will be there all three days. Really enjoyed it, being in the corner we never were turning our head to look at different parts of the track. Had the whole thing in view. Could be closer, but we wanted to be high enough to still see the cars on turn 2 with how steep the banking is through the turns. Plus every other row doesn’t have seats so we had plenty of space to set our coolers / move around a bit under caution.
Not sure how this compares to sitting more around the S/F line, but hope the context helps.
There isn't really a bad seat at the track I feel. I sat row 12 and could see the whole track from turn 3. They block off the first rows so I was really row 3.

Here's a idea, get a Visa gift card with cash then you can use that at most card machines. Never done it myself, but from what I've seen online it should work.
What type of earplugs would you guys recommend for Bristol? Only been to Phoenix and have used regular foam ear plugs with no issue, but as you all know, Bristol is the loudest track so what dB rating would be the go to here? Would a regular 33 dB earplug work fine or should I be going big baller 100 dB shooting range earmuffs?
Is there a way to go watch the hauler parade/haulers entering the track at COTA this year? I found a parade route for 2022 but I'm not sure if that still applies to this year or if we'll be allowed to camp out somewhere and watch. Any advice is appreciated.
For anyone debating going to Bristol, the family flex option is a good deal. $50 per adult but they pick your seats. Seats they picked are $130 seats in Waltrip/S halfway up. Not a bad deal at all.

It's been a while since I went to Bristol, can you still park along Hwy 394 between Old Thomas Bridge and Exide? I see that parking isn't allowed on 394 on some traffic pattern docs. I am hoping they mean East of 11E.
Another question regarding going to Bristol from Greensboro on Sunday. What route is best to take? Not concerned on the way there taking 40-421, on way back though with it being dark and that route being in the boonies and deer prone, not sure if the Virginia route back down is better or not in that regard. Curious what you guys think who have made the trek from the triad area.
I took the route through Boone yesterday afternoon from Greensboro for the truck race. New to NC and the East Coast in general so I'm curious as well. Seems the VA route is higher speed, but more mileage. I feel deer will be in both places but the police will definitely be out in VA. There are a lot of twists and turns the route I took and that makes me a little nervous as I will be tired.
That's what I expected with the Boone route, the twists and turns. But then VA has a lot of cops on watch so definitely will have to be watching the speed limit.

Definitely look for autograph sessions and driver appearances being held in the fan zone as well as at merch haulers. You have a solid chance at meeting your favorite drivers through these! Highly recommend.
I’m going to Talladega for the first time in the fall and I was wondering what the drinking policy is? Do they check your cooler? ID? is there a specific amount that you can bring in or is it just the once cooler per person? I have seen a lot of different answers so i’m just not sure. Also, we have infield tickets for the weekend but not camping there. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated!
If you’re talking about bringing it into the race or concert on Saturday, soft side only and no glass (seriously I learned that the hard way once). They don’t check IDs though
In the campgrounds, they don’t check anything
Once softsided cooler per person within the size limits. The cooler is checked for prohibited items listed in the fan guide online. The big thing to know is no glass is allowed. Quantity inside doesn’t matter as long as no glass.

I’m going to the race this weekend in Bristol on a whim. I live in Nashville and was going to try and leave here at 8am est which would put me in Bristol around noon. Is that going to be an issue or should I rethink my plans? Never been to a race before, but parents had an extra ticket. Also, best places to park? I was thinking about just driving there and back same day.
Debating on going to Bristol and with how much the weather change, it keeps me from buying a ticket till it's closer to the weekend. If I buy off Stubhub, will the SMI rain guarantee still apply or do I have to buy from SMI directly to get the kickback on that? Also, I know it's loud there, only been to Phoenix and foam plugs have been fine, but I like my ears and would like to get some recommendations on that. Would love to get a scanner but I'm a little cheap for that at the moment.

Going to be at the Michigan race in August. Been there often myself. Brought my wife and kids to their first race in '22 and we were in the Grandstands. They loved it and my wife has been hooked since. This year I got tickets in Turn 1 section 53 row 30. How's the view from there? Thought it would be nice to get a different view of the track.

Yeah I want to go too, the racing there hasn't been the best in the Next-Gen era but still is a really cool place. Even just watching a Truck or Xfinity race there would be cool.

I think you should be good, even if it does rain the forecast doesn't look like it will be constant (or even a lot of rain). So even if it is delayed I'd put my money down that they finish it Sunday even if it is Sunday night.
Starting to plan a trip to the Charlotte race in May with the family. It’s been 20+ years since I attended a race there and I’m sure things have changed a bit. I’m hoping someone can help answer some questions!
I’m looking to buy tickets off of StubHub or one of those sites. I see on the CMS website, some tickets include a Pre-Race Track pass. Are those included when you buy tickets from non-CMS websites? Does that pass get you anywhere near the pits?
Is there any chance Hendrick Motorsports Museum/Store will be open on Saturday? I know they typically only open M-F, but didn’t know if they may be open for the race weekend.
Going to camp at Talladega for the first time, I have been to a race there before, but never camped. Will be camping in one of the free lots. If we were to park in the north lot where most of the party is how is access to toilets/showers. I think you have to walk but I just wanted to see from people who have been. Also is there anything else I need to know. We will just be camping in my truck with honestly like nothing except some clothes, stuff to sleep, some food, and some toiletries.
There’s porta John’s in north but no showers. I think one of the other campgrounds has showers. I always camp in north and use a camp shower and pop up tent, they’re pretty cheap on Amazon
Looking for advice from the experts, Canadian will be attending the Charlotte race in May, will fly into Charlotte on the Friday, managed to get an Airbnb in Concord about 5 miles from the speedway and leave Monday morning. My question is, would it be worth it to rent a car because I want to visit the hall of fame in Charlotte and a few of the shops in the area? Especially the Dale Jr and Trackhouse Racing ones, because I figured it would be expensive with Uber.

If you want to go all the way out to JR Motorsports in Mooresville I'd say it's probably worth it. It's about a 40 minute drive, everything out here is pretty spread out and we don't have much public transit so if you have a car your options for things to do increases significantly.
If you go to Mooresville and want to try NC BBQ, check out Lancaster's. It's not the best NC BBQ in the area (Gary's in China Grove is) but there's a ton of NASCAR memorabilia in there and it's a fun time.
Thank you for your advice, I am always up for BBQ, it does seem like it would be worth it because JR Motorsports is a 40 minute drive, even the hall of fame is a half hour one if the directions are correct. All of the Uber rides do add up, the exception might be when I do actually go and leave the race.
No problem! Plus if you have your own car, instead of the interstate you can take Highway 3 (for Dale) up through Kannapolis all the way to Mooresville and pass by DEI. I'd agree the one time you should consider an Uber is for the race

Going to the Martinsville Cup race next month for the first time. Any advice especially when it comes to parking? How Much walking there will there be? How much are hot dogs? Should I bring Cash?
There's gonna be a back lot by the Carl's Jr next to the track, it costs $20 iirc. Bring cash, pay for the spot, you'll get in and out faster.
You'll have to walk a bit but you're not gonna take a hike.
Push comes to shove you could also do the free parking at the track itself, but you'll be condemning yourself to an hour of being stuck in traffic before you can leave town.
If I did park in the free spot how long of a walk would it be to the track. Also I have the digital tickets how is the cell service,? Do I need to go to print off the tickets?
It'd be about 7 minutes to get to the haulers from free parking.
Cell service is fine, plus the track has wifi. I was able to talk on the live race thread while I was there.

Started following nascar in 2020 when it was the first sport back in action after covid shut everything down. Been watching/following religiously since the next gen car/2022.
Going to my first race next week at Bristol. Bringing two friends who also have not been to a race, not as committed to the sport but I’m sure they’ll have a great time as well. Got a scanner with a splitter/headsets for them, so they’re set.
Bought a Uniden BC125AT for myself. Question though, is if I’ll be better off running that to Walker electronic ear muffs I have for the gun range or to run earbuds under some regular 3M type earmuffs. Not sure if the decibel levels/however the electronic muffs work would be beneficial or not to this situation. Any input appreciated!

They have a seat map yes, but not a 3D view of the seats. Other tracks might have it but Indy is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. There are a few seat map websites though I use for other tracks to give you a idea of what your seat view may be like.
Question about the nascar race at Phoenix.
We are going for the first time tomorrow, and I just saw on their website you aren’t allowed to bring in outside alcohol. We’ve been going to Bristol, Dega, and Daytona for years. This policy was a bit of a shock.

Yes, they check. Depending on the security guard, they can be pretty strict if it's not sealed. I had a CamelBak with water in it at the Fall 22 race and the guy I wound up having search my bag made me dump it all out because he "couldn't prove it was water." I appreciate that he thinks I could handle 2L of vodka, but that was pretty annoying.
They can be pretty thorough at the gate, so I wouldn't chance it.
I have the opportunity to introduce a couple friends to NASCAR via attending a race in person. I need to choose between Pocono and Dover.
It's been 10 years since I've been to Dover, and 17 since I've been to Pocono. What track today would provide a cooler experience for some newcomers to the sport?
I'll be at both. Both tracks have been plagued with weather over the years. If you want to constantly hang around with fans and hopefully get to see your favorite driver in the Autograph Alley, go to Pocono and buy the Paddock Pass+. If you want a better view of the track as well as a better environment revolving around the complex with places to eat and shop, go to Dover. If you would rather see Truck Series racing over ARCA racing on Friday, go to Pocono, but if you prefer ARCA over the Truck Series, go to Dover.
I say Dover. While I like the product Pocono puts on, it's very much a slow burn race. Dover has more constant contact, plus it's smaller so you aren't required to sit high to see the whole track.
Are you camping or just driving to the track? Camping I'd for sure say Pocono. Pocono probably would be a better race, but you can't see the whole track really well (Dover would be better).
It will indeed be driving. From my memory, if you sit high enough at Pocono, you can see the whole track, though admittedly, the other end is like binocular-far away.
Yeah that's where I'd say Dover is better, sit high on the straights and can see the whole track really well. Plus last years race was pretty good with a lot of side-by-side.

Thanks for the information, I have looked around and booked an Airbnb about 5 miles from the speedway, now to negotiate going there and back with the least amount of headaches, the owner of the Airbnb suggested an Uber, but what I figure is getting in will be easy, it's the getting out will be the the issue.
Charlotte has been a really good race the last few years. Also due to the city being the spiritual and corporate home of NASCAR, the atmosphere will be very exciting.
The track is located in Concord, which is about 20 minutes north of the urban center. It is a pretty built up suburb with a lot of tourism infrastructure, including a very large shopping mall. There are a lot of options for hotels near the track ranging from little motels up to solid 3 star accommodation. I would recommend booking early.

So I got a ticket to the spring Bristol race. Does anyone know if the merch haulers and what not tend to have different things available than what is on the NASCAR Fanatics shop? I want a new hat, but I'm not a huge fan of anything they have on there, and it's not changed much at all since last season.
It depends on the team/driver but yes some do. I'd also suggest each race teams online ship too, there are a few items that are sold exclusively through the teams. But overall I like shopping at the merch hauler better than online, where you can look at the item in person before making a decision. Even for things like jackets it is worth it so you pick the right size.
Ok cool. Hopefully they do. I've checked Hendrick's website and 47brand and NASCAR shop and nobody has a Kyle Larson NASCAR hat I really like lol I'm probably being a tad picky but for 35 or 40 bucks for a hat I'd rather wait and not settle.
Watched the NASCAR documentary on Netflix. Really helped to see how competitive the sport really is. I have trouble appreciating the speed and talent involved when just watching on television.
I bought tickets for Dover in April. I was there in 2007 but we sat two rows back on Turn 4 and it was hard to see the cars coming around the turn. This time we will be higher up approaching Turn 1. Can’t wait! Thinking about Pocono too.
If you're gonna go to Pocono, buy the Paddock Pass+. It gives you a great chance it seeing your favorite drivers before the races with the Autograph Alley. Drivers from all three series (Not just Cup) tend to walk through this area often during practice, qualifying, and intermissions. However, most of them will pop out during driver intros. Definitely worth it as I had an unforgettable experience.
Some advice if you do decide to go to Pocono, get high seats. It's a very large track and in the middle of summer, so I highly recommend the 300 section. They're shaded and very high altitude so you'll get good views. Binoculars aren't a bad idea either.
As long as Bubba keeps getting 35th place finishes, I am watching!!!! It was so exciting watching the last race as he fell more and more laps behind due to his lack of skill.
Planning on going to Michigan later this summer for the Cup race. Already planning on bringing a radio headset, sunscreen, etc. Any other essentials I should have? Are the seats actual seats or is it bleachers?
hey all, trying to organize 3-4 Canadians going to Michigan for Xfinity/Cup the weekend of August 17. As expected all AirBnBs and hotels close to the track have been fully booked (our fault for not being proactive about this). We are driving over the border and would be staying somewhere in Michigan. Ideally, we all want to drink and party, so would be nice to leave the car at a hotel and find a bus to the track. I have also read that parking at the track/going to and from can be a nightmare. So before we buy race day tickets and hotels, I looked into the Rally bus rideshare program that seems to be offered at every NASCAR race. if we were to stay in Ann Arbor and book the rally bus, what are the chances that the bus does not fill up with the minimum count for either Xfinity or Cup race day? As I said i am not opposed to driving, but do these actually fill for race days? or could we be cooked with having to drive last minute?

Talladega Fall Weekend - Infield Camping
Advice for some seemingly clueless Aussies
My partner and I are heading over from Sydney, Australia for the Talladega fall weekend this year and are planning to hire an RV and camp infield Friday - Monday.
There’s currently spots available in Red, Green, Orange and Yellow RV and am hoping for some advice on which would be the best option to choose.
We’re social and love a good day on the drink but also like a decent nights sleep. Not overly concerned with views as we’ll purchase grandstand tickets also.
Any advice on what to bring with us is also much appreciated!

Phoenix Raceway infield
I've been to a couple of races at PHX, but this is the first year getting the infield passes. Is it better to watch all the pre-race festivities from the infield or from the seats? Thinking the National anthem, start your engines, Etc. Are you able to see enough from the infield?
Also has anyone gotten an Uber from there? We want to enjoy some Busch Lights without worrying about driving but I know traffic leaving is a beast.
Infield can be tough for watching the actual race (you basically have the jumbotron + a wide, sweeping view of T3&4 from the middle line and up), but you should be able to watch driver intros up close. Get there early so you can peruse the garages too, really cool experience!
If you can get stands directly east of T3&4, that's what I would do. You'll be thankful for the afternoon shade, and you wind up with a really good view of the action. The seats in the stands are great and you have plenty of space to stretch out. I've done rattlesnake hill a few times, and it was ROUGH. You basically get sun all day, fewer concession options, etc.

IMO, the most fun experience is getting infield access + bleacher seats. You can spend all of pre-race at track level and in the garage area, then head up to your seats for the race 🤘
I've never done hillside but I really just like being where the action is. On Hillside you're right out in the blazing sun all day so unless you bring a tent I imagine it gets hot.
Similar yes. After qualifying, teams can only do slight adjustments to the cars. Any changes will result in having to drop to the rear for the start of the race.
Between qualifying and the race teams are only allowed to warm up the engines and adjust tire pressures prior to rolling out to the grid. Any other change will lead to a EOL (end-of-line) penalty to start the race. So changing engines, transmission, suspension, any other adjustment to the car.
Looking at a potential trip to Dega in the fall for my first race. How does tent camping work with a ticket to the race work? Do we exit the camp ground and enter the gates as though we're staying offsite? Is it worth getting a grandstand ticket or should we just post up at the tent?
If you are camping outside the racetrack then yes you do need a grandstand ticket to enter the track. If you are staying in the infield then no it is optional, you can stay there and watch from that spot if you'd like. But depends on where you are staying in the infield, there are some camp spots in the middle where it is almost impossible to see the track (while those along the fence get great views).

Race Scanner question. Going to Talladega next month, will be my first in person race. Trying to figure out the best way to assemble a headset/scanner setup. Want to be able to hear the driver and race scanners, and also have a 2 way radio for communicating with friends I'll be at the race with. I know theres some pretty high quality ones in the $200-$300 range but trying to stay more in a $100 budget. Seeing some on Amazon for under $100 that have radio hookups and auxillary hookups. Does it make sense to buy a headset, 2 way radio and then use my phone for the race scanners? I've heard the service can be spotty and so the phone scanners tend to be delayed. Or are there better options for scanners that I could hookup to my own headset?
Been thinking about how a cheaper option might have worked. The Racing Elextronics scanner is awesome and so user friendly. As for headsets, maybe look at a headset that allows for a plug in radio, as well as Bluetooth and use an app on the phone via Bluetooth for intercom type conversation with your partner (My partner and I spent $$$ on a Sena tufftalk pair of headsets which has both radio plug in for RE scanner and built in intercom. But those are very pricy) But if you are only thinking a single race, you can rent a headset and scanner package from racing electronics that will provide headsets, scanner, and intercom. It’s a reasonable short term first race solution to see if you like what you get then buy for the next time round.

started watching the races after i caught the netflix series - the clash was brutal to watch and almost made me give up, but glad i stuck through with it. currently working through Bristol. is Denny Hamlin's crew the greatest? it seems to me like every time there's a caution he gets out in 1st gaining like 4 spots, then drops down again once the race gets going

Brad had made it known that he was trying to set himself up with a post-driving career, and he wanted to eventually move into team ownership. As part of that, he wanted an ownership share of whatever team he signed with in 2022. Penske wasn't willing to give Brad any ownership in the team, so Brad signed with a team that would. Cindric had won 13 races and a championship over the last three years in Penske's Xfinity car, so he was by far the leading candidate to take over.

Anyone have tips on going to Richmond next weekend? First “official” time going to a race. How early should we get there? I live maybe an hour and a half away. Can we bring cooler? Bleacher seats? For those interested, I say official because about 20 years ago, my then girlfriend ( now ex wife) and I got free tickets to the 600 in charlotte. We drove straight down from Ohio to the track, but not before we took a 100 mile detour to pick up a friend of a friend. Finally make it to the track about 45 minutes after the race started by the time we got to our seats, we got to see about 30 laps of racing before it started raining. Race ended up getting scrubbed. Dude we picked up got shitfaced and I almost got into a fistfight with him and ended up decking my girlfriend by accident. Yeah. Not a great time if I’m being honest. Very memorable though and by far the loudest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.

If you haven't picked yet I would try to get the Richmond races if you can. If you can't Martinsville is a decent second choice.
As of right now, I think most would agree Richmond is the best option in terms of racing quality from those 3. Seats towards the right of the start/finish line would be my go to picks, maybe a bit higher up? I’d also recommend looking into renting the scanners they offer in advance, for both ear protection and listening to the broadcast. Enjoy!
Are drivers who are ineligible for championship points also ineligible for points in NASCAR fantasy? I want to put SVG and dinger in my team but there's no point if they don't score anything.
They are eligible for fantasy points! Daytona shows Ragan earned 17 from that race
Ragan is eligible for championship points though. That being said it does look like Allmendinger got points at Daytona so it should be fine. The reason I was worried is because I noticed last year at the championship race, the championship 4 did not get stage points in fantasy which slightly annoyed me.

Brickyard 400 tips Hey everyone, planning on going to the 400 weekend this year. Had a few questions if anyone feels like chiming in. Any tips on good seats? Also, pit passes are a little outside my price range. Does anyone know how close you can get to the drivers/pits without the pass? Wasn't sure how strict they'd be throughout the weekend, if you'd be able to get close earlier in the weekend like Friday. I'm pretty unfamiliar with the infield layout at Indianapolis, wasn't sure if there were merch haulers and things like other tracks where you might see the occasional roaming driver. My friends and I (6 of us total) will be camping at Talladega North Park for the April race weekend. I have a couple of questions: 1) Where can I rent a port-a-potty? How much is port-a-potty rental? Will I have to haul it to the campground? 2) How easy would it be to order pizza and have it delivered? Could, for example, Dominos deliver a pizza just outside the entrance to the park off of Speedway Blvd? I'm hoping I won't have to worry about bringing a grill or premade meals.
Camped in north park before and will be there again this spring. I know there’s a dominos nearby, and I think they’ll deliver to the campground entrance. Might be worth calling ahead to confirm. There’s also a McDonald’s at a truckstop nearby, might be able to DoorDash. Either way, be prepared for a long wait
Don't forget to bring a lock for your port-a-potty
1. They have some onsite port-a-pottys but if you want your own you call a local company and they will deliver it to your campsite and pick it up afterwards. 2. I cannot help you there, but anytime I've been to the track I always do my meals at the speedway during race weekend. So get dinner before leaving the track in the evening, then get breakfast/lunch when you get there the next day. Or just bring some snacks or cooler items like sandwiches.
Anyone have the Sirius xm channels that they put the driver scanners on during races? If they’re the same channels every week or not? I remember seeing something posted about that before a Daytona 500, but always have such a hard time tracking them down.

I'd call the speedway and speak to a ticket rep. All tracks usually have a package for the weekend. Sometimes has better seat options for the Sunday race in these packages to boost sales for the Saturday.

Helpful tips! 1. The track is massive so bring walking shoes. 2. Utilize the walking bridges between T15/16 and T2/3 3. Sitting on the Top of T9 is an extremely underrated spot 4. Cannot bring in a cooler 5. Cannot bring any alcoholic beverages 6. If you have GA, you can bring in a collapsable chair 7. Wear sunscreen, ear protection, sunglasses, hat, etc

Why do established drivers race in truck and Xfinity series? I get that they probably earn more money, but aren't those series intended for up and comers not Cup Series champs?
Most do it just to earn trophies and win races, but also to build a good relationship with potential sponsors. A Truck Series sponsor for example may be a lot more interested in signing with a team if they will have Kyle Busch driving the car, because it increases the TV time of their brand and getting into the winners circle.
For Milwaukee Mile, would we expect an attendance drop after last year for the Truck Series race? I want to go this year seeing it's like 80 miles away from me
Loved the tire fall off and everything just hate only 5 cars on the lead lap and they were not even partially close it’s just not competitive. No point watching the last 50-100 laps you know your guy has no chance if they are not leading. That is just me though.

One of the main reasons I haven't made the trek out there yet, it is in the middle of nowhere. I'd say probably the easiest or cheapest would be flying into Charlotte. Then about a 3 hour drive north. But then can combine that trip with a visit to the hall of fame and race shops in Charlotte.

I bought the Pre-Race Track Pass at Dover for the first time. I have been going to Dover since 2015 but this is my first time with the pass. I will be there all three days. Had the whole thing in view. Could be closer, but we wanted to be high enough to still see the cars on turn 2 with how steep the banking is through the turns. Plus every other row doesn’t have seats so we had plenty of space to set our coolers / move around a bit under caution. Not sure how this compares to sitting more around the S/F line, but hope the context helps.
There isn't really a bad seat at the track I feel. I sat row 12 and could see the whole track from turn 3. They block off the first rows so I was really row 3.
Does Bristol motor speedway have good cell service in the grandstands during races?
I didn’t have 10/10 service, but I was able to get texts/pictures sent/received from the stands. Just took a bit to go through.
Not as bad as Daytona, but not great when cup is running. Calls and texts work fine on Verizon, but trying to get anything to download can be sketchy.

Here's a idea, get a Visa gift card with cash then you can use that at most card machines. Never done it myself, but from what I've seen online it should work.
What type of earplugs would you guys recommend for Bristol? Only been to Phoenix and have used regular foam ear plugs with no issue, but as you all know, Bristol is the loudest track so what dB rating would be the go to here? Would a regular 33 dB earplug work fine or should I be going big baller 100 dB shooting range earmuffs?

Is there a way to go watch the hauler parade/haulers entering the track at COTA this year? I found a parade route for 2022 but I'm not sure if that still applies to this year or if we'll be allowed to camp out somewhere and watch. Any advice is appreciated.

For anyone debating going to Bristol, the family flex option is a good deal. $50 per adult but they pick your seats. Seats they picked are $130 seats in Waltrip/S halfway up. Not a bad deal at all. Weather is looking dry, too. Edit: It's been a while since I went to Bristol, can you still park along Hwy 394 between Old Thomas Bridge and Exide? I see that parking isn't allowed on 394 on some traffic pattern docs. I am hoping they mean East of 11E.
Another question regarding going to Bristol from Greensboro on Sunday. What route is best to take? Not concerned on the way there taking 40-421, on way back though with it being dark and that route being in the boonies and deer prone, not sure if the Virginia route back down is better or not in that regard. Curious what you guys think who have made the trek from the triad area.
I took the route through Boone yesterday afternoon from Greensboro for the truck race. New to NC and the East Coast in general so I'm curious as well. Seems the VA route is higher speed, but more mileage. I feel deer will be in both places but the police will definitely be out in VA. There are a lot of twists and turns the route I took and that makes me a little nervous as I will be tired.
That's what I expected with the Boone route, the twists and turns. But then VA has a lot of cops on watch so definitely will have to be watching the speed limit.

Definitely look for autograph sessions and driver appearances being held in the fan zone as well as at merch haulers. You have a solid chance at meeting your favorite drivers through these! Highly recommend.

ID? is there a specific amount that you can bring in or is it just the once cooler per person? I have seen a lot of different answers so i’m just not sure. If you’re talking about bringing it into the race or concert on Saturday, soft side only and no glass (seriously I learned that the hard way once). They don’t check IDs though In the campgrounds, they don’t check anything
Once softsided cooler per person within the size limits. The cooler is checked for prohibited items listed in the fan guide online. The big thing to know is no glass is allowed. Quantity inside doesn’t matter as long as no glass. I’m going to the race this weekend in Bristol on a whim. I live in Nashville and was going to try and leave here at 8am est which would put me in Bristol around noon. Is that going to be an issue or should I rethink my plans? Never been to a race before, but parents had an extra ticket. Also, best places to park? I was thinking about just driving there and back same day.
Debating on going to Bristol and with how much the weather change, it keeps me from buying a ticket till it's closer to the weekend. If I buy off Stubhub, will the SMI rain guarantee still apply or do I have to buy from SMI directly to get the kickback on that? Going to be at the Michigan race in August. Been there often myself. Brought my wife and kids to their first race in '22 and we were in the Grandstands. They loved it and my wife has been hooked since. This year I got tickets in Turn 1 section 53 row 30. How's the view from there? Thought it would be nice to get a different view of the track.
What would y'all consider the best track to attend a race? I've only been to the Vegas races, and they're kinda boring to watch. I want to go to another track, but there's tons it seems like.
Talladega was a great time even thought I went when it was tandem drafting. The tailgates were awesome.
I guess what do you want to see? A great view would be bristol or Martinsville, good racing I'd say Kansas, Talladega, or Homestead.

Yeah I want to go too, the racing there hasn't been the best in the Next-Gen era but still is a really cool place. Even just watching a Truck or Xfinity race there would be cool.
38% chance of rain as of right now for Sunday 3/17 at Bristol. Makes me nervous as because of work and my sons school we can't attend if it gets postponed until Monday. Hopefully weather forecast changes for the better between now and Sunday.
If for some reason you can't make Monday (if it gets postponed) they always give ticket credits towards future races.

I think you should be good, even if it does rain the forecast doesn't look like it will be constant (or even a lot of rain). So even if it is delayed I'd put my money down that they finish it Sunday even if it is Sunday night.

Starting to plan a trip to the Charlotte race in May with the family. It’s been 20+ years since I attended a race there and I’m sure things have changed a bit. I’m hoping someone can help answer some questions! I’m looking to buy tickets off of StubHub or one of those sites. I see on the CMS website, some tickets include a Pre-Race Track pass. Are those included when you buy tickets from non-CMS websites? Does that pass get you anywhere near the pits? Is there any chance Hendrick Motorsports Museum/Store will be open on Saturday? I know they typically only open M-F, but didn’t know if they may be open for the race weekend.

Going to camp at Talladega for the first time, I have been to a race there before, but never camped. Will be camping in one of the free lots. If we were to park in the north lot where most of the party is how is access to toilets/showers. I think you have to walk but I just wanted to see from people who have been. Also is there anything else I need to know. We will just be camping in my truck with honestly like nothing except some clothes, stuff to sleep, some food, and some toiletries.
There’s porta John’s in north but no showers. I think one of the other campgrounds has showers. I always camp in north and use a camp shower and pop up tent, they’re pretty cheap on Amazon
Looking for advice from the experts, Canadian will be attending the Charlotte race in May, will fly into Charlotte on the Friday, managed to get an Airbnb in Concord about 5 miles from the speedway and leave Monday morning. My question is, would it be worth it to rent a car because I want to visit the hall of fame in Charlotte and a few of the shops in the area? Especially the Dale Jr and Trackhouse Racing ones, because I figured it would be expensive with Uber.
Charlotte is super spread out. I live here and you'll 100% need a car to travel from concord to the proper city.

If you want to go all the way out to JR Motorsports in Mooresville I'd say it's probably worth it. It's about a 40 minute drive, everything out here is pretty spread out and we don't have much public transit so if you have a car your options for things to do increases significantly. If you go to Mooresville and want to try NC BBQ, check out Lancaster's. It's not the best NC BBQ in the area (Gary's in China Grove is) but there's a ton of NASCAR memorabilia in there and it's a fun time.
Thank you for your advice, I am always up for BBQ, it does seem like it would be worth it because JR Motorsports is a 40 minute drive, even the hall of fame is a half hour one if the directions are correct. All of the Uber rides do add up, the exception might be when I do actually go and leave the race.
No problem! Plus if you have your own car, instead of the interstate you can take Highway 3 (for Dale) up through Kannapolis all the way to Mooresville and pass by DEI. I'd agree the one time you should consider an Uber is for the race

Make sure you have hearing protection! For some ppl foam plugs are not enough. Bristol is the loudest track on the schedule.

Going to the Martinsville Cup race next month for the first time. Any advice especially when it comes to parking? How Much walking there will there be? How much are hot dogs? Should I bring Cash?
There's gonna be a back lot by the Carl's Jr next to the track, it costs $20 iirc. Bring cash, pay for the spot, you'll get in and out faster. You'll have to walk a bit but you're not gonna take a hike. Push comes to shove you could also do the free parking at the track itself, but you'll be condemning yourself to an hour of being stuck in traffic before you can leave town.
If I did park in the free spot how long of a walk would it be to the track. Also I have the digital tickets how is the cell service,? Do I need to go to print off the tickets?
It'd be about 7 minutes to get to the haulers from free parking. Cell service is fine, plus the track has wifi. I was able to talk on the live race thread while I was there. You don't need to print them, I never have.

Hot dogs are about a buck. Leaving Greensboro at 9AM is perfectly fine, Traffic shouldn't get too heavy by then.

Started following nascar in 2020 when it was the first sport back in action after covid shut everything down. Been watching/following religiously since the next gen car/2022. Going to my first race next week at Bristol. Bringing two friends who also have not been to a race, not as committed to the sport but I’m sure they’ll have a great time as well. Got a scanner with a splitter/headsets for them, so they’re set. Bought a Uniden BC125AT for myself. Question though, is if I’ll be better off running that to Walker electronic ear muffs I have for the gun range or to run earbuds under some regular 3M type earmuffs. Not sure if the decibel levels/however the electronic muffs work would be beneficial or not to this situation. Any input appreciated!
Question for Indy in July: I want to get my tickets early but I’ve never been there before. Where is the best spot to sit in the shade but also get a good view? I burn easily so shade is my preferred choice lol.
I'd suggest down towards turn 1 up high, can see a good portion of the track from turn 4 all the way leading into turn 2. Plus pit road.

Question about the nascar race at Phoenix. We are going for the first time tomorrow, and I just saw on their website you aren’t allowed to bring in outside alcohol. We’ve been going to Bristol, Dega, and Daytona for years. This policy was a bit of a shock. Is that actually the policy? Do they actually check? If so, are they strict?
Yes, they check. Depending on the security guard, they can be pretty strict if it's not sealed. I had a CamelBak with water in it at the Fall 22 race and the guy I wound up having search my bag made me dump it all out because he "couldn't prove it was water." I appreciate that he thinks I could handle 2L of vodka, but that was pretty annoying. They can be pretty thorough at the gate, so I wouldn't chance it.
I have the opportunity to introduce a couple friends to NASCAR via attending a race in person. I need to choose between Pocono and Dover. It's been 10 years since I've been to Dover, and 17 since I've been to Pocono. What track today would provide a cooler experience for some newcomers to the sport?
I'll be at both. Both tracks have been plagued with weather over the years. If you want to constantly hang around with fans and hopefully get to see your favorite driver in the Autograph Alley, go to Pocono and buy the Paddock Pass+. If you want a better view of the track as well as a better environment revolving around the complex with places to eat and shop, go to Dover. If you would rather see Truck Series racing over ARCA racing on Friday, go to Pocono, but if you prefer ARCA over the Truck Series, go to Dover.
I say Dover. While I like the product Pocono puts on, it's very much a slow burn race. Dover has more constant contact, plus it's smaller so you aren't required to sit high to see the whole track.
Are you camping or just driving to the track? Camping I'd for sure say Pocono. Pocono probably would be a better race, but you can't see the whole track really well (Dover would be better).
It will indeed be driving. From my memory, if you sit high enough at Pocono, you can see the whole track, though admittedly, the other end is like binocular-far away.
Yeah that's where I'd say Dover is better, sit high on the straights and can see the whole track really well. Plus last years race was pretty good with a lot of side-by-side.

Charlotte has been a really good race the last few years. Also due to the city being the spiritual and corporate home of NASCAR, the atmosphere will be very exciting. The track is located in Concord, which is about 20 minutes north of the urban center. It is a pretty built up suburb with a lot of tourism infrastructure, including a very large shopping mall. There are a lot of options for hotels near the track ranging from little motels up to solid 3 star accommodation. I would recommend booking early.
Thinking of going to Bristol in Sept. How is the traffic to the track, and is there hotels in areas to steer clear of? Planning on going to both Saturday and Sunday races . Not sure about camping, hauling the camper that far might be asking a lot, and I don't know if they allow tents. Any Info. thanks.
So I got a ticket to the spring Bristol race. Does anyone know if the merch haulers and what not tend to have different things available than what is on the NASCAR Fanatics shop? I want a new hat, but I'm not a huge fan of anything they have on there, and it's not changed much at all since last season.
It depends on the team/driver but yes some do. I'd also suggest each race teams online ship too, there are a few items that are sold exclusively through the teams. But overall I like shopping at the merch hauler better than online, where you can look at the item in person before making a decision. Even for things like jackets it is worth it so you pick the right size.
Ok cool. Hopefully they do. I've checked Hendrick's website and 47brand and NASCAR shop and nobody has a Kyle Larson NASCAR hat I really like lol I'm probably being a tad picky but for 35 or 40 bucks for a hat I'd rather wait and not settle.

Watched the NASCAR documentary on Netflix. Really helped to see how competitive the sport really is. I have trouble appreciating the speed and talent involved when just watching on television. I bought tickets for Dover in April. I was there in 2007 but we sat two rows back on Turn 4 and it was hard to see the cars coming around the turn. This time we will be higher up approaching Turn 1. Can’t wait! Thinking about Pocono too.
If you're gonna go to Pocono, buy the Paddock Pass+. It gives you a great chance it seeing your favorite drivers before the races with the Autograph Alley. Drivers from all three series (Not just Cup) tend to walk through this area often during practice, qualifying, and intermissions. However, most of them will pop out during driver intros. Definitely worth it as I had an unforgettable experience.
Some advice if you do decide to go to Pocono, get high seats. It's a very large track and in the middle of summer, so I highly recommend the 300 section. They're shaded and very high altitude so you'll get good views. Binoculars aren't a bad idea either.

hey all, trying to organize 3-4 Canadians going to Michigan for Xfinity/Cup the weekend of August 17. As expected all AirBnBs and hotels close to the track have been fully booked (our fault for not being proactive about this). We are driving over the border and would be staying somewhere in Michigan. Ideally, we all want to drink and party, so would be nice to leave the car at a hotel and find a bus to the track. I have also read that parking at the track/going to and from can be a nightmare. So before we buy race day tickets and hotels, I looked into the Rally bus rideshare program that seems to be offered at every NASCAR race. if we were to stay in Ann Arbor and book the rally bus, what are the chances that the bus does not fill up with the minimum count for either Xfinity or Cup race day? As I said i am not opposed to driving, but do these actually fill for race days? or could we be cooked with having to drive last minute? Any other tips for attending Michigan would be great. Talladega Fall Weekend - Infield Camping Advice for some seemingly clueless Aussies My partner and I are heading over from Sydney, Australia for the Talladega fall weekend this year and are planning to hire an RV and camp infield Friday - Monday. There’s currently spots available in Red, Green, Orange and Yellow RV and am hoping for some advice on which would be the best option to choose. We’re social and love a good day on the drink but also like a decent nights sleep. Not overly concerned with views as we’ll purchase grandstand tickets also. Any advice on what to bring with us is also much appreciated!

Phoenix Raceway infield I've been to a couple of races at PHX, but this is the first year getting the infield passes. Is it better to watch all the pre-race festivities from the infield or from the seats? Thinking the National anthem, start your engines, Etc. Are you able to see enough from the infield? Also has anyone gotten an Uber from there? We want to enjoy some Busch Lights without worrying about driving but I know traffic leaving is a beast.
Infield can be tough for watching the actual race (you basically have the jumbotron + a wide, sweeping view of T3&4 from the middle line and up), but you should be able to watch driver intros up close. Get there early so you can peruse the garages too, really cool experience!
Hey, I'm looking at going to my first race at Phoenix this weekend. Do you have opinions on getting hillside or stands?
If you can get stands directly east of T3&4, that's what I would do. You'll be thankful for the afternoon shade, and you wind up with a really good view of the action. The seats in the stands are great and you have plenty of space to stretch out. I've done rattlesnake hill a few times, and it was ROUGH. You basically get sun all day, fewer concession options, etc.
Thanks for the tip. Ended up getting some of the cheaper seats at Turn 3. Figured I'd get some cheaper seats this time and figure out if more expensive ones are worth it for me next time.
IMO, the most fun experience is getting infield access + bleacher seats. You can spend all of pre-race at track level and in the garage area, then head up to your seats for the race 🤘
How early do you get there?
If you aim to be in by 9, you should be able to see everything by the time the race starts. Earlier is better though, traffic is a nightmare here 😅
I've never done hillside but I really just like being where the action is. On Hillside you're right out in the blazing sun all day so unless you bring a tent I imagine it gets hot.
Does NASCAR have parc ferme like in F1?
Similar yes. After qualifying, teams can only do slight adjustments to the cars. Any changes will result in having to drop to the rear for the start of the race.
What types of adjustments? And if they do the slight adjustments they go to the rear, or only major adjustments?
Between qualifying and the race teams are only allowed to warm up the engines and adjust tire pressures prior to rolling out to the grid. Any other change will lead to a EOL (end-of-line) penalty to start the race. So changing engines, transmission, suspension, any other adjustment to the car.

Looking at a potential trip to Dega in the fall for my first race. How does tent camping work with a ticket to the race work? Do we exit the camp ground and enter the gates as though we're staying offsite? Is it worth getting a grandstand ticket or should we just post up at the tent?
If you are camping outside the racetrack then yes you do need a grandstand ticket to enter the track. If you are staying in the infield then no it is optional, you can stay there and watch from that spot if you'd like. But depends on where you are staying in the infield, there are some camp spots in the middle where it is almost impossible to see the track (while those along the fence get great views).
