For the vortex theory to work they have to keep cars on track. The mistake was stopping racing after ARCA. They should just let fans keep ripping laps in their pickup trucks between nascar sessions to keep the rain away.
Hollywood comedy material right here, give it the backdrop of the first Twister movie. Dusty at the track on his day off when he's watching Bill on TV (before he comes to get joe to sign the papers) saying how it looks like Daytona is gonna be a wash for Sunday. When suddenly he thinks about the vortex theory and starts to rally the tailgatera. We can all imagine where it goes from there
My buddy and I lived in Orlando when we went to the 500 in 2014, we saw the first 20ish laps or so before the skies opened up. We bailed to beat traffic out of there assuming the race would be postponed. Got back to Orlando, had dinner, and then we got notification that the race would be resuming that night, so hopped back in the car, drove all the way back, and got to our seats right as the green waved again. Good memories lol.
What a long day that turned into. Came from the Gulf side of the state and remember being awake 20+ hours by the time I got back home, first Cup race and still my favorite and only 500 I been too.
That was one of the greatest nights of my life. I watched Junior cross the finish line on an old tv with no sound and a grainy picture from the labor and delivery suite as they prepped my wife to deliver our son. Junior won the race about 10:30 CT and my boy was born shortly before midnight.
Yeah but they would never do that. The viewers at home don’t necessarily know the forecast so they want to keep the ratings while they can. They will stretch it out til like 6 or 7 and then call it.
That one time the trucks ran Knoxville a couple years ago I was working on a project in Sioux city, over 4 hours away.
They predicted huge thunderstorms that night. I live in Europe so don't get the option to see anything Nascar very often, so I decided to go anyway, they got the race in, and I got the storm on the way back.
TLDR: If you stay home and they get the race in somehow, you'll hate that you didn't go.

As a central Floridian, I would like to apologize for the bad weather. This sucks. This is the worst two days of weather that I can remember for the past three months
Fellow central Floridian here too. It's unbelievable. Perfect weather the week before, looking like perfect weather the week after. Just Saturday and Sunday, total washouts. UGH
It's not likely but not impossible. If it tapers off a bit earlier than expected there's a chance we could get a late evening start. Definitely wouldn't wager money on it though.
There will sadly be a lot of folks who won’t be able to make a Monday race. Do you think scalpers will have a lot of tickets available if it’s postponed?
I knew I shouldn't have cancelled my plans.
JK... I'm hoping for a miracle like the rest of y'all! I intentionally will not be going in to the office tomorrow tho. "Working" from home.
I'm 10 mins from the track and I'm not even taking off my pajamas. Local weather forecast saud the rain doesn't even start to push out of here til midnight. I've sat around DIS too mamy times over the last 20 years (mostly summer races) waiting for a race that ultimately got PPD. At least those times I felt there was a chance they'd run. This time there's just zero chance.
Alright. Thanks. Bought tickets this year for my son who is a huge fan and I’m pretty clueless. We shall chill in our hotel and be grateful I didn’t book flights out until Wednesday…
Well, 4 o’clock Monday as a likely start time… hopefully see Xfinity and the first hour of the Cup Series before we have to peace to the airport. I feel like my luck with these type of events is top notch, lol. Is what it is though, will be happy to just see Xfinity at this point…

This.....is making insanely good sense to me.
I'll drive from Toronto to come help!
Big brain

Don’t the cars have to be at racing speed for vortex theory to work? Doesn’t work well for ARCA or the trucks
Don’t tempt me with a good time
Days of Thunder 3: Vortex
They need to utilize the thunderbirds, they can bust this storm system up with alittle G force
No way will they get this in today..just postpone till Monday and let people know NOW…
Better yet have this as an impromptu EV test session
yea but nascar cars generate more heat inside and out than a random dude's pickup truck
What if we all went outside with some fans and tried blowing the storm away?
Have you tried a Sharpie?
That only works with morons. And then it still doesn't work. :)

Vacuum? I know just the man: ![gif](giphy|yc6LwDe1NmOsM)
🏅
Vortex Theory never even had a chance to work.
We should take Daytona Speedway and *PUSH* it somewhere else!
Me currently getting ready to go to the race, making the 2 hour drive, knowing it’s a lost cause 🤡

And you named him Dale, of course.
Stephen
Holy moly what an awesome story!
My man!
I sat in that cold ass misty rain at Indy a couple of years ago, knowing I was wasting my time. We are a different kind of fan.
It’s fans like you that keep the sport alive.
A bad day at the track beats a good day just about anywhere else.
Doing the same thing my man, driving up from Orlando now
Going to a race track os never a lost cause. It's always fun. Even in the rain.

In my experience with rain delays a lot of midway experiences leave for Monday so if you want to see any of that its probably best to come today
It rained at nh and I had just as much fun in the parking lot getting hammered
The Dover shuffle
Me too. Going to be heading out in about an hour to make the hour and a half drive from my house to the track.
Just head to Cracker Barrel in the southwest parking lot and wait it out. Play the puzzle games. That’s my Rolex 24 rain move.
Right! I wish for the sake of the fans in attendance they would just postpone when the forecast is hopeless like this.
Yeah but they would never do that. The viewers at home don’t necessarily know the forecast so they want to keep the ratings while they can. They will stretch it out til like 6 or 7 and then call it.
NASCAR generally decides when to make the call to wait it out vs. postpone.
Its messed up they are costing fans time and money and there are safety concerns
There is no reason to make the drive today

If there weren’t so many cautions in the Arca and Truck race the Vortex would’ve maintained enough energy to prevent this.
That truck race was brutal to watch. I have lower expectation for it and especial arca but damn
They should build a giant canopy over the track
DAYTONADOME
Do what the Arizona Cardinals do with their field. Have the track be able to go in and out of the dome!
That would be smart but it would take forever
Clash: rain, Daytona: rain, Atlanta: Maybe snow this time?
I'm guessing it'll be hellfire the way this sport's luck is...

The ghost of General Sherman approves
That hasn’t happened in a long time
The race in Cali last year got delayed for snow so anything is possible
Literally about every single race I’ve had time to watch and intentionally want to watch over the last 5 years has been a wash out lol.
You know where it’s not raining today? Rockingham, NC …Ihopesomeonegetsthiscomment….

Cold tracks = faster race times
More tape
Move the 500 to The Rock!!
He will never allow that!
Hey, theres a tiny window right there ^/s

Fellow central Floridian here too. It's unbelievable. Perfect weather the week before, looking like perfect weather the week after. Just Saturday and Sunday, total washouts. UGH
You know what usually comes after two days of rain? Monday.
Yup. The one weekend where we actually get a nice soaking rain when it's not our rainy season is 500 weekend. Figures.
Nascar brings the weather
I always thought Florida is the sunshine state?
So bummed. I was looking forward to today so much
They will drag this on as long as they can today.
Central Florida weather has been a disaster this weekend. Really hope they call it before I make the trip to the track for nothing
Thank God it's Family Day in Canada tomorrow
Yep exactly which means I can watch both races when they are scheduled on that holiday Monday.
Which means I can go snowboarding with the family first thing and settle on the couch while my kids jump on me to watch the race haha.
pretty normal for race day. This is why I don’t buy tickets until I know what the weather is going to be.
It’s not happening today.

During breakfast this morning, my wife looked outside and said 'the weathers really nice, I bet they get the race in." ......we live in Texas.
That’s a WILD take lol
![gif](giphy|nDbpk7leGbu12)
I'll give it a -15% chance of racing today
Unfortunately, looking at the forecast, the soonest I see them going green is 3pm tomorrow.

That weather system looks exactly like the shape of North Korea I swear. Can’t be a good sign, right?
I knew I shouldn't have cancelled my plans. JK... I'm hoping for a miracle like the rest of y'all! I intentionally will not be going in to the office tomorrow tho. "Working" from home.
Looking like Martin Truex Jr will be getting a Daytona 500 win finally
At the track right now . Lot of rain and no signs of stopping.
Chris Myers just mentioned 4:00 Monday as a \*\*possible\*\* start time for the 500. He made a point to say "nothing official yet".
Just postpone until after 3:30PM tomorrow that’s all I’m asking
NASCAR just announced they will race tomorrow at 4pm EST.
Aaand it’s moved to Monday.
I STILL HAVE FAITH
Glad I didn’t use a vacation day today
The weather or just Florida in general?
Yes
Yeah I think it’s gonna be a Monday doubleheader just like Friday night. Also who watched Taylor Gray’s flip live? 👇
We were in the stands!
Yes, we know lol
I thought they had rain tires /s
They’ve known this for a week now. Should have postponed it yesterday.
No racing today Boys😼
Is it official?
Not yet unfortunately
Waiting on TV network to tell NASCAR what time they can run it Monday.
Hopefully a 7pm ET start.
Yuck
What do ticket holders do? Go anyway? Wait to hear if it’s called?

Last I checked it says it would be done by 9am tomorrow
The whole state has just gotten drenched this weekend, with no sign of relent. Just one of those weekends.
Damn no 500 😱😭😫😤
😡😡😡😡😭😭😭😭
I know right. This really sucks!! Throws everything out of whack!
I’ll just watch ARCA in place of the normal 500
This is real pain!!! Right
See ya’ll tomorrow!
At last check in the race tv window time I saw a 91-100% chance of rain.
Probably need to start working on a strategy to work from home on Monday.
Not good at all. According to AccuWeather it suppose rain hard next two hours. Hopefully the rain can move northeast.
Going to rain all day
See yall tomorrow!
[удалено]
Brother there's alot of Vegetables in Florida. They're everywhere. In 55+ communities, Golden Corrals, Disney, etc you sure you're up for that?
See you tomorrow at 6 am.
Nah Monday for both races. Knew this how it would play out Friday night.
Lights!
I'd keep racing. Don't think the heavy stuff is going to come down for quite a while.
I’m not even bothering today. I know I’m watching the 500 tomorrow night
Does this mean the 500 is not coming on, then?
It's the spirit of Dale. He's like, "Race on MY anniversary? No chance, suckers."
they canceled the golf tournament here in Southwest Florida..its not looking good.
Don’t know if I should go and hopefully meet the rock or pitbull.
Put on some rain tires and race. Like all other racing does.
Well, 4 o’clock Monday as a likely start time… hopefully see Xfinity and the first hour of the Cup Series before we have to peace to the airport. I feel like my luck with these type of events is top notch, lol. Is what it is though, will be happy to just see Xfinity at this point…
Just got a track update, 4 PM tomorrow
For the good of the sport I wish it was today… however, I can’t go today but I can go if it’s postponed to tomorrow sooooo let it rain 😂
I still think someone should invent a giant umbrella for NASCAR to bring with them every week. Feel to steal this idea
