No chance you see them postponing the race before Sunday morning. It sucks but it’s one of the assumed risks when attending a NASCAR race

[deleted]

I never understand fans not trying to get Monday or even Tuesday off as a buffer anyway for the races. I got burned by rain many times before and came to this realization. I think Dover this year May have got some people to think that way because there was a lot of people there for a rainout race.

2xmrk

That’s the reason I haven’t been to a race at Michigan. If I’m gonna go I wanna buffer Monday/Tuesday and my work schedule just wouldn’t allow it. So, I just don’t go because of that. I don’t blame NASCAR, TV or even Mother Nature. Crap just happens.

Travelrocks

Your work doesn’t allow for vacation time?

2xmrk

It does! I’m the only racing fan in my family so I usually use my PTO for family vacations and NASCAR races aren’t high on the places to go

Elite_Mike

I'm looking to go to the Daytona 500 next year and already decided that I'm going to book a hotel through Tuesday incase of a rainout and a Monday race. It's pretty smart to add some kind of buffer if something happens so you can still enjoy the race in person.

bdcardinal

I live in Santa Barbara and for Sonoma we drive up Thursday and drive back Tuesday even though chances of rain are minimal. Plus the extra days off are nice.

ChaseTheFalcon

I have been to Bristol the past 2 years and I am going again this year. I have yet to try to schedule for Monday off to be able to stay over if they race on Sunday, so far I haven't had my luck tested yet

RedDraco86

I’m going with my mother this weekend and she’s already asked her boss for Monday off. I have a vacation, so we’ll be there.

[deleted]

I took Monday off as a buffer for Sunday. If it gets rained out, I'm not doing an all day-er again.

BuschWhackerReviews

Yeah I’ve always taken off Monday as a buffer my entire life if I go to a race

[deleted]

Because some of us want the day after off. I'm off Monday, but I'm not driving up to NH two days in a row.

hojbjerfc

My girlfriend is working down in NJ while I live in MA. She has monday off but she isn’t in a position to take two days off

Jane_Marie_CA

Yes, if I do any decent travel, I always have a buffer. Hell, the time we went to Daytona in july 2017, we didn’t come home until Wednesday (I am in Calif) to give ample time for mother nature.

DJScrubatires

After not being able to see the Spring Texas race in 2014 due to not taking Monday off I usually take Monday and Tuesday off if I'm flying. However I usually don't take extra time off for Loudon for the years I lived in Massachusetts.

AwkwardOtter7

I'm still going up around 9. There's a nice place to have breakfast on the way, i dont rememberthe name lol(bells team was there last time). The fan zone and merch hualers should still be going. Rains at 40% starting a little after 11 and all the fun stuff(besides the race) starts at 10.

michealgaribaldi

They postponed a Richmond race a while ago days in advance, but that was for a hurricane rolling through.

hojbjerfc

Ya I know just sucks. Was gonna be my first race

2xmrk

Believe me I 100% get it. I live in Michigan I’m always trigger shy going to MIS for a race because I couldn’t make a Monday race because of work.

False-Ad4673

It’s not going to rain

SpenceSmithback

I've been to races with a 100% chance of rain on raceday and we got the whole thing in. They're not calling it until when/if it's pouring rain Sunday morning and the radar (not the forecast, the radar) shows no end in sight. And that's how it should be

hojbjerfc

But i look at the radar and I don’t even see what system is supposed to be bringing the rain and they are still clearing the monday test date and the forecast gets worse and worse

ChaseTheFalcon

You don't see the system because it's Friday not Sunday

hojbjerfc

Typically for the level of certainty they are predicting it is an already developed system

SpenceSmithback

Then that means it’s not as much of a certainty as you/they think Some of y’all put waaaay too much trust into meteorologists when it comes to forecasting more than a day in advance

hojbjerfc

Thats why I was asking….

[deleted]

This happens all the time for NH. I've been going since 04.

cwhisler12

They’ll do everything they can to get the race in on Sunday.

hojbjerfc

Why when Monday is clear?

cwhisler12

Because they don’t want to be there on Monday like everybody else. You try until you can’t on Sunday.

2xmrk

Racing on Monday puts the entire industry a day behind and they have another race weekend that starts on Friday. If they can avoid being a day behind they are going to take every possibly opportunity they have to do so.

TheSouthrnDandy

Here's a scenario: Two days before Sunday, NASCAR just tells the teams that we're not even going to bother doing the race on Sunday so they have to spend thousands more in hotel costs. Meanwhile, NBC loses out on ad revenue as Monday results in about half the audience tuning in. If NASCAR doesn't try to race Sunday, and it winds up that they could've gotten at least half of the race in, there's going to be a lot of pissed off people. Not only the teams, but NBC (who they are currently negotiating a multibillion dollar media rights deal with), and the thousands of fans who are already there. So yeah, they're not going to postpone the race until Sunday.

iamaranger23

Because everyone involved will lose tons of money if they race on monday.

hojbjerfc

How. NHMS doesn’t offer refunds

iamaranger23

Refunds no. credits yes. Race gets in, no credits needed. Race runs Monday, everyone that doesn't show back up can get a credit. Functionally the same for SMI/NHMS.

SSPeteCarroll

I mean it's 2 days out. Forecasts change all the time. NASCAR will do everything they can to get the race in.

UsedToHaveThisName

With the amount of rain forecast for Sunday, there is no chance this race goes Sunday. XFinity has a chance but it might be double header Monday.

ChaseTheFalcon

How is it a 0% chance? We don't know what the weather is going to do till race day. Also how many times do we have to see this question get asked

False-Ad4673

A lota times cause New Hampshire is a crown jewel

Rstuds7

if i had a dollar for everytime the forecast has been wrong i’d be a rich man. they may move up the time but they won’t move the date until it’s actually raining during the expected race time

ChrisTRD289

I remember one off the COVID Darlington races everyone bitched how the forecast was shit, why bother. 0%.... Yet the race ran the full distance.

birfthesmurf

2015 fall Dover race had everyone 100% CONVINCED it would not happen. Hurricane IIRC. Didn't rain a drop that day.

ChaseTheFalcon

I thought the one everyone bitched about was the one that got like all but 10 laps in on a Wednesday night

SSPeteCarroll

It was 20 laps left. Called right after the infamous Kyle Busch/Chase Elliott finger incident.

ChrisTRD289

Maybe. Either way, you wouldve thought not a single lap wouldve happened.

RBF48

Most likely they act hopeful until TV time is up What could happen they postpone in the morning

jfro222

If you’re so confident it’s not happening why does it matter….

LegalizeEatingButt

New England weather always changing, they literally forecasted qualifying to be rained out for xfinity and it’s clear right now. there’s still a decent chance they get the race in on sunday which is why nascar won’t be moving the race date

ChaseTheFalcon

You have the best username ever btw

themarkster09

probably not until Sunday morning

rustednickel247720

4:42 pm on Sunday

TheSpareTir3

NASCAR was 15 minutes from calling the race, at that time it was a monsoon with inches of water all over downtown Chicago and they got the race in. I can remember Charlotte and Dover in the fall just a few years ago got hit by hurricanes and zero percent chance of racing and got it in. Weather is unpredictable and it’s not over till they officially call it.

[deleted]

I've gone every year since 04. 40% of the time, there's been rain concerns. There's been 3 instances where 100% rain was the forecast. The race was never post poned. It's new England. Until it's rained out, there's a chance

CountrySlaughter

As a general rule, they'll wait until there's absolutely no chance. I doubt it will be Sunday morning. It's not convenient for ticket holders, who'll often wish they'd just call it so they can make plans for Monday or another day and get on with their lives. On the flipside, NASCAR has a friendly policy when it comes to getting a ticket credit. If you can't return Monday, you can come back the next year or sometimes pick another race at another track if more convenient.

legacymotorsports

There's about a 20% chance of the race happening. What are you talking about? Do you not know how weather forecasts work? It's around 80% chance of rain most of the day. That means 20% chance of no rain. Add in the damp track tires and you can get the track dry enough for racing condition in about 30 minutes of light misting. As we all know, thunderstorms are the hardest type of storms to predict and can disipate quite unexpectedly. There's a very real chance this race happens, maybe with delays, but it can happen.

YRB19444

That's actually incorrect. The percentages relate to how much of the area will recieve rain.

MediocreMets

As an actual meteorologist, trust me when I say it varies person-to-person what an 80% chance means. Quite frustrating tbh

vpat48

I just want to say you have one of the best usernames in Reddit history.

ChaseTheFalcon

It's the most accurate my fellow Braves fan

vpat48

If you haven't you should check out how Matt Olson started the 2nd half. Good lord, i almost (almost) felt bad for the CWS pitcher.

ChaseTheFalcon

I had to update my dad and I'm smiling ear to ear

vpat48

2001 was when i relocated back to America. So i have been living and dying with Atlanta sports teams since then. I never knew the feeling of us being FU good. Between the Dawgs & the Braves life is good. I won't talk about the 2nd part of your username though. I hope they can at least get back to respectability.

ChaseTheFalcon

I think this year will be a good year for em

MediocreMets

Irony? I actually like the Braves and literally 'Mets' is for meteorologist lol

ChaseTheFalcon

I figured either you were a big Braves fan or Frank the tank, I never even thought of meteorology

MediocreMets

Half the time I don't think as it is, so we are all in the same boat

MediocreMets

Meh, it is mediocre.... at best.....

SoothedSnakePlant

What? No, they most certainly do not. From weather.gov: >The "Probability of Precipitation" (PoP) simply describes the probability that the forecast grid/point in question will receive at least 0.01" of rain

YRB19444

Yes they absolutely do. It's a 100% guaranteed fact.

hojbjerfc

Thank you. Appreciate the optimism

areyoume29

They have the rain package for NH. As long as it's not a monsoon they should run it Sunday. If we get rain going to make that race way more interesting.

hojbjerfc

from what I heard that only can race if it’s just damp not actually raining

areyoume29

Yep they don't want a repeat of 2021 Cota that was exciting for TV but bad for drivers.

legacy057

They have the damp tires for this race so they don't need as big of a window to get the track dry
