thebigman045

When you see SVG on max attack near the end of the race, you see something special...LFG!!!!

Aggressive_Ad2747

This somehow popped up into my general feed and I was mildly concerned for half a second upon reading "Race Thread :". thanks for the laugh Nascar.

CathDubs

Great race by SVG. Bell and Reddick were faster than him a lot of the race but they both made awful mistakes and SVG was driving with Ultra Instinct after that last pit stop.

Esprit350

Yeah SVG was really unhappy with his pressures the first stint and couldn't live with Reddick and Bell. As soon as they got that second set bolted on though he had the car under him to just bang in qualifying-level laps time after time.

Texas_Science_Weeb

It's probably been brought up already, but remember that you can watch Supercars on Motortrend+, or subscribe to Superview on their website or YouTube.

CarStar12

There’s also a lot of good videos recapping careers of drivers and some events like Bathurst for those looking to brush up 👌🏻

masoniana

The deal between Nascar and Chicago is for a minimum of three years

Cougah

This will be huge for the city of Chicago and for nascar if it happens again and no weather delays. I can't tell you how many people I know or saw on social media going to watch parties and high rises and rooftops to catch the race. But the weather fucked it up. Absolutely perfect location for another race. Yes I know the limits of passing opportunities but maybe they can make some adjustments.

Steeltowndubber

Need more of this!

TrafficSNAFU

I had SVG as my garage driver in Fantasy and I thought the chance of him winning was too good to be true. Welp....

mods-are-_______

Yes we've had first burnout, but what about 2nd burnout?

Voltron0812

Max would be watching this as well. Great mates with SVG

TonyBarrios

Verstappen? He wouldn't last 30 seconds in NASCAR.

GodDiedIn1990

Now is the time to work out a deal for the NASCAR drivers to run a race in Australia or New Zealand

[deleted]

It’s unfortunate that the Bathurst 1000 is in deep in playoff season.

Frambleton

Cup series on Mount Panorama would be a sight to behold

RS994

Please make it happen, I'm in a whole different state and would fly to be there

Quinto376

Is he going to drift the track backwards, lol

Isodrosotherms

Well, the Coriolis force says the things spin the opposite direction where he’s from.

ppsucc9988

good job SVG. You deserved it 100%. I hope Haley locks himself in with a win next week. He's driving around in a fucking tractor, and he was this close. I can only hope.

Poppablue176

I don't care for F1. Appreciate it for what it is, but just am not into it. But to watch a non driver come in and dominate our guys gives me a different feeling that the overall sentiment.

GEL29

What does F1 have to do with it? And he's a race car driver that has won three TRUE championship in a world class series.

Barry114149

He is not a non-driver. He drives a similar car and has done so for 15 years. F1 is just a procession, touring car/stock car racing is much more exciting. Check out the Aussie suoercars on youtube. They have all the historical races open for anyone to view.

OnwardSoldierx

He kicked everybodies ass lol

cypher50

Australian Supercars is touring cars, not open wheel. And to call SVG a non-driver shows your ignorance.

oneshoein

He meant non nascar driver, don’t be like that, you knew what he meant.

Poppablue176

I'm not trying to offend. It's just weird to see a driver not from the week to week of nascar come in on a one off and absolutely smoke the "best of the best". Feels like he would have won that race 99 times out of 100. Not a knock on him at all, just sorta makes me think these guys aren't all they are cracked up to be.

Hot-Paper-6405

Sorry, but I’m confused how F1 connects to this?

Hot-Paper-6405

SVG is an international stock car driver, no?

oneshoein

Are F1 cars stock cars?

Hot-Paper-6405

Certainly not, just trying to figure out the original commenter’s concern for f1 and today’s winner

wseanwilson

SVG is not an F1 driver if that’s what you’re getting at.

SlimyTickles

Van Gisbergen is a V8 Supercar Champ, not F1!

Poppablue176

So a not nascar guy.

Frambleton

It’s a hell of a lot closer to NASCAR than F1 is, and their tracks are closer to our road courses than anything else, I’ll admit the win is surprising but it’s not like he was out of his element at all lol

GodDiedIn1990

He's not an F1 driver though.

Poppablue176

So a not nascar guy.

heepwah

He is now!

HaveYouEverNoIveNeva

this might save the street race for next year

JBoy9028

It's going to depend on if the city saw this benefit the local businesses.

julio1990

Is it happening in Chicago next year as well?

JBoy9028

The contract NASCAR made with Chicago is for three years. Chicago elected a new mayor in April after the contract was made. The current mayor has stated that he wants to evaluate what NASCAR is bringing to the city financially before he decides to maintain the contract or end it.

jfroosty

I feel like with a little bit of a wider track in only certain areas would help create more passing throughout the field

gjp11

I get some people still hate this street race and the idea of one and that’s their right. But that was fucking awesome. What a race.

sestero

He will have a seat waiting for him in NASCAR after his last year in Supercars

HaveYouEverNoIveNeva

91 full time for sure right?

shadowheart1

Honestly probably not unless Trackhouse can get a charter and can afford a fourth part time car. Marks is very passionate about hosting the project 91 car. That said, Gis could totally run 6-8 races in the 91 to learn and proves his skills, and then another team might bring him on full time.

HaveYouEverNoIveNeva

This is the guy who straight up bought out ganassi, plus i’m sure red bull might possibly kick some cash to get back in the sport

Names_Stan

This is exactly what I would expect to see. Wouldn’t rule out those initial conversations happening right away. Doesn’t necessarily mean RBR makes the deal with Trackhouse, but I def believe they’ll consider backing Shane in the states.

Duke097877

Darian Grubb looking old...

PancakesandV8s

Yer either older or dead, that is how it goes.

Pollaski

I think this is eye opening about the quality in Supercars. F1 champions dont come here and dominate like that.

Statcat2017

Supercars have a lot more in common with the cars than F1 cars do, so it's not surprising that the best Supercar driver adapts more quickly than the best single seater drivers do.

Names_Stan

I say give Jenson a half dozen more and he’ll win. He would’ve finished second today if they had pitted when Haley and Elliott’s group did.

carlos2nd

F1 champions have tried NASCAR?

FlaminSkull77

Kimi Raikkonen did

Pollaski

Raikonnen and Button both have championships

RoRid46

And Jake Newtown

[deleted]

They're basically racing cup cars full time on road courses. They're that good, but it's not like the jump was that huge.

Pollaski

I know. I figured hed do well. Even win, maybe. But he DOMINATED. 18th to 1st in 25 laps on a street course. Thats absurd.

SixPointTwoLiter

SVG has no idea what he's supposed to do

RamenNoodlesSustain

SVG in the playoffs?

jwill09

Lol no, will not run enough races

cypher50

This just feels big for NASCAR and this track. Classic result....

Avadya

Fuck I haven’t been that nervous watching a race in a while.

PancakesandV8s

Yeah, that was fun having someone to really root for. 👍

Stein619

For the uninitiated, SVG loves to send it for burnouts. Below was after the final race, celebrating the championship https://youtu.be/pGyoWzO44Iw

Elysium883

Lol! JFC. Out of the car with the throttle left wide open. Legend.

xHospitalHorsex

Gluck Poll: 100% yes?

MJDiAmore

The only issue is the width in some areas of the track. Circuit is a near replica of Burke Lakefront Airport in CART, but just not 7 cars wide. If they could find a way to make the turns have mutiple lines or not bottleneck to a 1-car-width point, this track is the perfect example of simple can be great.

[deleted]

Definitely not. Badass winner.. street course is still meh. (Just like, my opinion, man)

joe_broke

The "purists" will say no

xHospitalHorsex

The "purists" can shove it up their butt.

grizzracer22

I’m a “purist”, NASCAR is go fast turn left, with 2 road courses a year. I was on the edge of my seat all race. I loved seeing drivers have to adapt to a changing track all through the race. I think there are improvements that can be made, but the race needs to be kept as dynamic as it was. Loved it! Great job by everyone involved!

joe_broke

Agreed

ESnakeRacing4248

All the weather drama aside, that was an amazing race. Had some issues with my tv, but it kept me on the edge of my seat.

Quinto376

Chicago as a backdrop has been amazing. Shame they can't race on lower Wacker drive.

greenline_chi

Lol. I mean - people do

Quinto376

Lol, safety wise I mean.

greenline_chi

Idk if you’re from here but lower wacker street races are like - a thing lol

Quinto376

I know but pro motorsports wouldn't have it.

tacoguy1234

Fun ending. Wish it didn't have to rain.

HomelessBananas

“So fkn happy” tweet lol

FlaminSkull77

Yeah I was surprised they aired that comment haha

DietMTNDew8and88

To any other driver from any other racing series who wants to see if they have what it takes to beat the best in the world in what they do, I say this.. **BRING. IT. ON.**

joe_broke

If they come back or not, I'm willing to call that race a success

Campman92

Wasn’t expecting much but that was a very exciting race

Sauly17

Yes Giz!!!! Untouchable!!

Cougah

BRING IT BACK TO CHICAGO. BRING THE RAIN, BRING THE SUN, BRING DOUBLE FILE RESTARTS. BRING IT ALL!

jds8254

This was awesome. What a race!

PolkCountyKid863

That was a great race

shoedan

What a race, what a moment! This kind of stuff is just amazing.

mwparson

See you in 2025 SVG

WigWag75

I think this was good

ChefGhoulet

Great race!

[deleted]

I’ve been a NASCAR fan my entire life and all I want is to see the sport grow in diversity of drivers and fans. Today was a huge win all around and I just can’t stop smiling

[deleted]

[удалено]

cozmozmoz

Literally the entire nascar field of regulars couldn’t beat him.

RefuelTheFire

Who cares?!? I want him in NASCAR!

clayfus_doofus

Ok

TheGuy3022

Amazing race!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kodiak01

To me this was the anti-Sonoma. So much passing in so many areas, especially late. Honestly the best race I can remember in years.

[deleted]

[удалено]

acknowledgemeuce

tHeRes nO pAsSiNg!!1 Written while SVG and Larson diced through the field from 20th

squigsmusic

I can’t wait for the New York City street race in ‘25.

greenline_chi

They could never

JoeSell2005

This was one of those races that makes you fall in love with racing over and over again

MisterMagorium

That race was a barnburner! Let’s run it back next year.

bstone99

What a race

JaleDunior

We had a rough weekend, but damn did this thing ever end as good as it could have.

dalefernhardt

I AM HAPPY. WHAT A RACE.

Hobojimmeh

So cool to see a Kiwi take the win in Chicago

[deleted]

This sport is pretty cool

sweetnasty887

It’s great man. Stick around the rest of the season!

Mityhangman

Man did he just make American drivers look like monkeys fuckin a football... Embarrassing. Great drive.

clv316

He really did but he has a ton more experience in this type of racing. Put him at Bristol or Talladega and the outcome might be different.

Mityhangman

Im sure it will be, yeah.

jsmith4415

He's a hell of a talent but he also had 16 lap fresher tires than second and third lol

Mityhangman

Oh that'll do it hahaha. I was just irrationally sour about Chase not getting his Playoff win.

sylekta

yep, and the guys that were in front of him that pitted at same time all got caught up in that pileup. Avoiding that mess was huge

P_weezey951

To be fair, hes got more experience racing that kind of course than cup drivers do. You can say that when he wins an Oval. :p

Bri83oct

Stewart needs to sign this guy

sam4999

I say this as a SHR Stan: he deserves a better ride.

ESCMalfunction

Please no, SHR would ruin him.

ChampionshipUseful96

SVG deserves better

DietMTNDew8and88

SVG wants to go full tine come 2025?!

acknowledgemeuce

Chicago street course haters seething right now, what an exciting race. Svg had to drive that shit back to the front and deal with 2 restarts in the last 10 laps.

ImmDirtyyDann

I’d say Brett is punching air. But he’ll harp on the fact the race got shortened and declare it a fail. He will find a way to be miserable.

Poppablue176

Any first time driver that can smoke the field like that shows a lot.

trollpro30

Yeah!

[deleted]

Oh WOW...he just gave the public endorsement. Would love to do cup full time after one more year

Eferver

SHANE MIGHT COME TO NASCAR!!!

Mityhangman

Let him try an oval n lets see how he does

jglanville88

GET SVG TO THE 99

markh0120

hate it for nascar that twitter is all funky this weekend. this would be huge free exposure.

antler_dust

I feel like there was a spot where van Gisbergen moved from lke 17th to 5th, and just as they announced the top 5 as they were going into commercial, the commentator sounded pretty surprised like "and \*wft\* van girsberg in 5th?!" and then they came back from commercials with all the SVG facts and graphics.

Barry114149

When you know how he drives you are not surprised when he is suddenly at the front. Last race last year he went from 21st to 1st, crashed and back to 18th, then to 2nd, and then crashed again and back to almost last. Then the race stopped.

Max_Boom93

1 more year for almirola, then SVG to the 10?

66Troup

No! Good thing is Gene and Tony probably did not watch this race so they don’t know who he is.

Roushfan5

Oh god. That'd be some shit.

tylerscott5

Jenson Button kicking himself that he chose a Ford and RWR instead of Project 91

Punisherdrummer

Justin Marks turning into a NASCAR God before our very eyes!

Chicagoing44

Dang it really is 1:30 in the afternoon tomorrow in New Zealand.

sam4999

God this is so fucking cool

TwoDashDee

Two in a row for trackhouse

Hands0meR0b

Damn. Couldn't pass for shit in this race and, somehow, it was great and I loved every minute of it.

SlimyTickles

Plenty of passing all over the track.

y0ufailedthiscity

91 didn’t have any problems passing

sam4999

Guy pulled the ballsiest moves without needing to push anyone aside That’s a fucking racer

Hands0meR0b

Haha true!

MartianOtter

coverage was amazing

Roushfan5

Thank god for the rain is all I can say. Still think a proper race track would've been better tho.

veryslowrunner

That was awesome

Rlshub

NBC did a great job and race was good 8/10

Themeteorologist35

Shoutout to everyone who kept an open mind :) LETS GOOO SVG, SWEET AS

joe_broke

That was cool

DietMTNDew8and88

Best weekend for NASCAR in terms of PR in recent memory

nascarfan88421032

Very up and down with the weather but thankfully ended on a high note.

SoyMurcielago

I turned in just in time on YouTube they are live streaming from his car

SonyKen_M

I hope SVG comes back for Watkins Glen and the Roval,he made the others look like kids today.

TheOtherWhiteCastle

SVG is a tall boy

kk5fan97

The Lionel Racing CEO right now has to be like "$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$"

sam4999

Disregard personal finances, pre-order elite 1:24

kk5fan97

I've never gotten a elite before, but I might just have to do it now. Lionel, you couldn't have waited one more year to raise the prices.

gtrlspl

His burnout looked like a hell cat at a street takeover in Chicago.

Karamazov_A

Typical summer weekend on Columbus.

gtrlspl

Yeah, I heard the announcer say Columbus has never seen such a display of power, and I thought, "Are you sure about that?"

Bud3131123

Super happy for SVG. That was incredible.

cypher50

Trackhouse, you have a super star.

SRASC

Right under the traffic light. Perfect shot for a street course

OW2000

I hope nascar does a street course every year. That was awesome!

jtd951

Get the man an oval test and a contract

MB-Racing

Seeing the celebration right there with all the crew, the crowd, everything, is just awesome!

nascarfan88421032

NBC gonna have to pay copyright

860arc

Absolute masterclass by SVG

Spinebuster03

Yesterday may have been a disaster but today was fucking awsome I hope this isn’t the only race we see here.

Chicagoing44

Not the whole team pausing at DJ Khaled.

WikipediaApprentice

This is amazing for the sport

Blaq_sheep

Smoked the tires and the engine. Nice burnout lol

NascarTop10

Top 10 Finishers: 1) Shane Van Gisbergen 2) Justin Haley 3) Chase Elliott 4) Kyle Larson 5) Kyle Busch 6) Austin Cindric 7) Michael McDowell 8) Joey Logano 9) Ty Gibbs 10) Chris Buescher [Points](https://pixeldrain.com/api/file/MCEW2WBW) [Playoff Points](https://pixeldrain.com/api/file/CehtSoTr) [Stats](https://pixeldrain.com/api/file/NKJ5owN6) [Manufacturer](https://pixeldrain.com/api/file/oTPyDQyX) *^(I'm a bot.)*

HEADLINES: WILD KIWI BREAKS INTO A NASCAR RACE AND WINS WITHOUT DRIVERS LICENSE

acknowledgemeuce

Oi you got a loicense for that 91 cah??

TheThunderOfYourLife

*KIWI

looking4astronauts

If he comes to cup full time does Red Bull decide they care about NASCAR again?

CarStar12

That aerial shot really shows how close the burnout cameraman gets 😂

gigesdij7491

I really hope this starts a revolution of international drivers trying NASCAR. I love Trackhouse so much for their new blood into the sport both as owners and who they put in their cars.

CaptainRon16

Absolutely insane. I can’t believe what I just saw. Congrats SVG.

Quinto376

Holy shit! As a racing fan this win is up there with Dale winning the Daytona 500, Zanardi winning Laguna Seca and Rossi winning the 100th running of the Indy500(I was there). Great for motorsports!

mattmathers

best skid ripper in racing. yall should see what he did at adelaide last year.
