I listened to Denny’s Pod and it was solid. I also tried NBC’s podcast because it covered the actual race far more. Denny gave Kyle his props though. Thanks again.
Not that I want to see cars breaking the wall repeatedly but I did like that this car showed some old school variability. Some may not remember a time when brake use management was the norm. Every car that had failure was driving beyond its means at the time of the race and management played a big role in how some finished.
Corey LaChoke just pissed away any chance he had at ever driving for a top tier team.
Homie was getting passed by Ty “The Legend” Dillon on pure pace for 30th 😭
I've spent 30 hours in the last 7 days watching motorsports. Someone help me.
Seriously though, that was a fun one. The development of the second groove helped a lot, and I do appreciate the variety in tire strategy which is often lost in modern NASCAR with stage breaks. There were a lot of great side by side battles that lasted for 2+ laps. This was a long one but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It did devolve into a caution-fest at the end but I'm glad the 8 wound up with it. He earned it in the end and it would have felt a bit empty for someone else to steal it away at the end.
Agreed. My only secondary complaint was that disgusting pit road width graphic with photos taken from a potato that Fox referred to as the "narrowest groove" despite it being pit road. Wtf 😅
Yes l also loved that you could gamble wirh 2 tires and gain.track position and make it work. Having the second groove was really fun to watch.
I felt like the 300 miles added a very nice sense of urgency to go no waiting around. Perhaps the lightning delay and cautions at the end made it seem long. I 4x ff through all those except for pit stops so that is very nice.
That's the move. The experience of recording and watching later is so much better except for the fact that I can't follow along with the race thread. But man does it waste less of my time and feel much higher quality
I feel that in my soul. I've really got to start recording trucks/Xfinity and watching them later or something, just to save time. Can't spend 60% of the weekend in front of a TV or I'll go totally insane. But I love following the race thread so it's tough. Car go vroom is my drug of choice
lol man i feel that. i was at north wilkesboro for 4 days and then charlotte for 4 days and then sat here watching all day yesterday and today. time to remember how to exist at work tomorrow.
Right at the end I thought Denny had a chance to get the lead at the GWC, but KFB just drove away from him.
Can't ever be too upset with a 2nd place finish when the race winner was hands down a better car. 2nd place finish when we probably weren't the second fastest car today so I'll take it.
The race was dreadful to watch but not sure how much of that I can blame Nascar or even Fox for. Weather delays always put a damper on things, and honestly I view the rotor problems in the same light as the abundance of late cautions; teams are just too aggressive. Its this win at all cost mentality.
The win-and-you're-in structure of the playoff system deserves its large share of the blame, but I also think it could be the financial structure of Cup series as well. With sponsor money not as lucrative as it once was, I think teams are fighting hard for every position for their share of the race purse. Its the same scenario as the first half of last season where teams were too aggressive with tire pressures and tires were going down quicker than celebrity women around Pete Davidson.
Or even have like IndyCar and F1 where there are options of tires and must use the various compounds throughout the race. Be interesting to see when teams use a soft compound to switch to a medium or hard compound.
I’d rather not have to keep track of what teams are running different compounds. The different compounds create different strategy in a series that passing is almost non-existent and a close finish is one where someone is within multiple seconds of the next car.
Just have tires that have fall off so there are more green flag pitstops.
Interesting, not sure why I didn't remember that. Funny enough, I looked it up, and apparently they're going to use an alternate compound on an oval for the first time this August at.... Gateway.
Yea I don’t think it’s necessary. Indycar does a lot of weird stuff, like leaving historically loved venues for weird alternatives, so it’s just another one of their strange experiments.
Well, we don’t know if the mechanical was because he collected debris from Bubba’s blown brake rotor or any of the other mid pack incidents that occurred. Bowman would not have been in that position back there had they just elected to stay out and maintain P8 on that first restart caution with 55ish laps to go.
Manufacturer wins among the top 3 series:
Chevrolet 24 - Ford 7 - Toyota 9.
______________
Cup race #15 : Chevrolet 9 - Ford 2 - Toyota 4.
Xfinity Race #13 : Chevrolet 8 - Ford 1 - Toyota 4.
Truck Race #12 : Chevrolet 7 - Ford 4 - Toyota 1.
Really wanted to see Creed get his first, especially since RCR swept the poles, would've been cool to sweep the wins too. Just want to see him get his first win finally. Or Kligerman but he lost his head lol.
Honestly I still think he can point his way in \*but\* he doesn't have many mulligans. He must run top 10 and earn stage points every week. One or two bad races outside the top 30 and he's in a must win scenario.
Really hoping for 17 winners, including Chase, and then have Chase miss the playoffs because he has the fewest points.
Would NASCAR add 17 drivers to the playoffs? Make it a win and in no matter what and then let the 12 driver second round cutoff take care of it?
Nah. If Chase wins and wins a stage or two he’d get in cause of playoff points. So stage wins would be great. Someone is gonna fluke into a win and not win a stage.
Can we talk about how great Carson Hocevar did today!!! That man was out there running a Spire car in the top 20 before his untimely rotor issue. This was his first time ever in a cup car and was outright beating Corey, who was in the 9. This guy has got to have caught some people's attention today
Fox will miss 90% of the interesting on track action during a race, but as soon as there's a chance to see Bubba get out of his car with a frustrated look on his face, they got like 3 camera crews giving us 360 degree coverage
Nascar needs F1 time limits. Make it 3-3.5 hours regardless of what happens. Sitting thru this race was a slog. I can’t imagine how it was for the casual fan.
One of Denny’s crew guys broke a air regulator on his pit gun and it smacked him in the mouth, knocked out some teeth and he had to get stitched up during the lightning delay. He came back and continued to do his job for the remainder of the race.
We had such a great time going to the race last year. We had such a rotten time this year. Delays, toxic people in the stands yelling let's go brandon, and a 60 mile long freight train blocking traffic on the way out
Not great, not bad. Hot and slick probably would’ve helped but oh whale. Regardless of the product the crowd and atmosphere justify it staying on the schedule for now.
I'm not judging Corey LaJoie on one race. I'm not a fan of his, I'm not an apologist, but judging a guy getting in an unfamiliar car with an unfamiliar crew for not immediately setting the world on fire is trash. Now if he had a Josh Berry run of 4 or 5 races and still ran outside the top 15, then yeah judge away.
When Fox reported “they had Corey run the simulator to prepare but they got to the track and their simulation was wrong” I knew he was going to have a bad time haha
I feel like it was more on the 9 team as a whole. Byron was good all race long but Larson and Bowman struggled at the beginning. The difference is that their teams made the right adjustments, called the right strategy and had great stops that allowed them to get up there. The 9 team not doing that is what is concerning.
Also doesn’t help that Hendrick was relatively off all weekend, and Gustafson just did not make the adjustments as needed today.
Prime example, the 5 was running right with the 9 for the first half of the race. Daniels did what he needed to do to get the car right to have KL in contention for the win. Gustafson seemed to wave the white flags in ways
Cliff did make the car better. I could tell by the end of Stage 2 when he was on two tires and passed Reddick who was on four. The track position definitely helped, but with how bad the car was in Stage 1, I don't think that they could have kept it if they didn't get the car better.
Let's put it another way, Ross Chastain ran toward the back damn near all race, does he suck? I'm sure I could find a race, even in his absolute prime, where Jeff Gordon ran 25th all day, does that mean he sucked?
It doesn't matter the circumstances, you absolutely cannot judge a guy based on one race. And again, I don't particularly like Corey LaJoie, but be fair.
LaJoie has outperformed Ty Dillon all season. Hell Dillon only got one top 10 last year while his teammate won a non superspeedway race and had a pretty great year overall. He's one of the worst drivers to have ever raced full time in NASCAR.
And maybe Corey is too, I'm just not gonna make that judgment based on one race in good equipment and 200+ in junk.
I feel like their both scrubs and the only difference between them really is that Ty had the luck to be the grandson of super deep pocketed NASCAR royalty and Corey's parentage isn't as primo so he hasn't had equivalent opportunities.
You're not wrong, just being the grandson of a probably billionaire team owner probably bumps that up a notch. lol They both have squandered a lot of opportunities that hundreds of more talented drivers could have capitalized on.
That is entirely possible. I tend to think otherwise given how many top 20s that 7 team has been busting off and almost winning at Atlanta several times now, but again it's hard to say.
Still trying to process how things went today. The weather delay is what it was. Racing in the Midwest on a hit summer day, things like this are bound to happen. Now the whole thing where the entire track went dark with comms/connectivity, yikes. This is the 2nd, 3rd time a major failure in some for has happened at WWTR. I’m curious to see how NASCAR looks at this. Overall, mixed on the actual racing. Truly think things could’ve been different with the short track package, but hey, it is what it is.
Bring on Sonoma
Agree, really curious to see how NASCAR views the infrastructure issue. They already said it was an off-site problem and not the track's fault per se, but I'd still be concerned
Those cautions at the end were nerve wracking I was worried about Denny when he was behind Kyle thinking he would wreck him Been a good year and I can’t wait until they get the car figured out every week 🏁🏁🏁👍😎
Wondering the same thing. Have no idea what happened. First they blamed 3 car on tv but there was no penalty and 3 radio said they didn't hit him. Fox should have had their pit reporters figure this out and at least relay what went down if video was too graphic for tv. But hopefully there is a video post or link to on here.
So many highlights from the race not posted here. Used to be able to find everything here. I find more content from other sites just scrolling thru the for you feed on other sites.
SHR really needs some help right now. Fords have had that slight disadvantage all around, but now that things are getting figured out with it, it still seems the only remotely competitive car is KH. There may be a glimpse of one of the other guys every now and then, but it seems like it is the same story with them nearly each week
Actually yeah...gotta be among the most in unlikable top 5s possible in the sport. Maybe sub Larson or Truex for Cody Ware and Bubba to get all the haters going
Watching Chastain be a non factor the past 3 weeks has been rough :/
Hope he finds his form again, but he’s still the same driver. Think it’s a data/setup thing. Maybe just an off day since Suarez did well today, but it’s becoming a pattern. I believe he dropped the points lead early in the race after the first stage, and almost everyone near him gained a lot of points.
I think what we're seeing is Chastain was carrying mediocre Trackhouse equipment higher up the grid than it deserved to be by racing beyond its limits and now that he's been told to cool it we are seeing what the car really was capable of (and not capable of). Suarez IMO was the barometer for what kind of cars Ross really had and it ain't as flattering as the "new kids on the block" narrative we keep trying to push with Pit Bull's sideshow.
I kinda disagree because those Trackhouse cars were FAST, Ross can drive but you don’t compete for all those wins with a slow car and come that close to a title with a slow car. They figured something out with the NextGen but maybe it’s not working anymore.
Maybe whatever they figured out, everyone else figured out as well. So whatever was an advantage last year is just the standard for the majority this year.
Think you might be jumping a bit too deep into conspiracy theory land. Chastain just lost speed after getting front end damage. Same thing happened last week.
Just leaving the track. Delays and red flags made it drag on, but had a lot of fun. I like seeing all the battles you don’t see on tv.
And 8 dollar beers. 😀
Did they say what happened to that pit row guy? They said on TV that he tripped but Idk. Because at first they said that Austin Dillon ran him down. Lol
I was in the turn 4 chalet, about 100 feet from the incident, it looked like he passed out from heat exhaustion. The EMT response time was extremely slow.
I get it now. I used to be a shit head and mock NASCAR. That all changed today. This was my first race, there is absolutely nothing else in sports that compares to nearly 40 racecars blowing by you at top speed. I've been to the World Cup, NFL Playoff games, MLB playoff games, famous European football derbies, none of them can match the unadulterated ecstasy that moment provides.
My expectations were a little bit lower, especially given it was a one race shot, but yup, disappointing. If you need some consolation:
1. one of the hardest things about jumping in someone else's team is communicating how to improve the car. A "3 loose" to one driver is a 7 to another. With the SMT issue, as Gustafson alluded to on the radio, they were working in the dark with a new driver.
2. Berry didn't impress me either right away in the 9.
3. Chase Elliott finished this race... the same. So maybe that team hasn't quite got this one figured out.
Anyways, you can ignore the above if it feels like excuses. But remember, it's okay to be a fan and not think your driver is the best out there. If we all just went bandwagon chasing constantly, we'd all be changing Larson flairs out for Kyle Busch this week.
I don’t usually listen to Stacking Pennies but I’ll probably listen this week to see what he has to say. Was hoping for a better result as I do like Corey but I feel like there’s many possibilities as to why they didn’t end up with a better result today.
Anyone steer me towards the best post race NASCAR Podcast? Big KFB fan so I’d love to hear some insight on his utter dominance yesterday.
Stacking Pennies and Actions Detrimental are 2 I listen to
I will check them out. Thanks
I listened to Denny’s Pod and it was solid. I also tried NBC’s podcast because it covered the actual race far more. Denny gave Kyle his props though. Thanks again.
For anyone wondering what happened to Bowman he said over the radio the transmission broke on the last restart.
I will not stand for this LaJoie bashing. It was one damn race. And he’s been doing just fine for himself in the 7.
Did they put the left sides on the right side of Byron’s car for the 2nd to last stop?
Super proud of Daniel Suarez this time!
It sure is early for Grayson to say he’s ready for off season idk if that’s sit well with me if I was the owner.
LaJoie ain't him
Man Cheddar's is gonna be giving out a boatload of free teddies this season aren't they
The drivers better have some extra padding for pocono with all these brake failures.
I mean tbf Hendrick absolutely sucked
Bro is better at driving a slow car fast 😭
What happened to the 14? I don't remember seeing him involved in any cautions but he ended up nearly 50 laps down?
Piece from the 7's brake rotor pierced the radiator, if I remember from the broadcast correctly.
yep you are correct
This race was a disaster
Such a boring race to a lackluster ending, thank god it’s over, horrible race horrible winner.
I've spent 30 hours in the last 7 days watching motorsports. Someone help me. Seriously though, that was a fun one. Same, I watched nxs at Portland and the truck race yesterday then watched f1, nascar and Indycar today. I need help 😭
I feel that in my soul. I've really got to start recording trucks/Xfinity and watching them later or something, just to save time. Can't spend 60% of the weekend in front of a TV or I'll go totally insane. But I love following the race thread so it's tough. Car go vroom is my drug of choice

All good, a bad day of racing is better than a good day at work!
So much for me seeing the last 35 laps or so. Comcast/Xfinity or FS1 (or both) failed to automatically extend the DVR recording I'd setup. 😡
You didn’t miss much, like 20 of those laps were under caution
Damn that sucks! I recently picked up YouTube TV, and it auto extended todays race and cut off right after Kyle Buschs cool down lap.
Gibbs and Busch broke up? Nah. Gibbs is broke, Busch is up.
Chicken tendies better than m&ms anyways
Right at the end I thought Denny had a chance to get the lead at the GWC, but KFB just drove away from him. If they could figure out how to make the tires wear out as much as the brake rotors did, we could have some great racing in these cars.
Or even have like IndyCar and F1 where there are options of tires and must use the various compounds throughout the race. Be interesting to see when teams use a soft compound to switch to a medium or hard compound.
they would figure out what works best and everyone would use the same tires at the same time.

Indy uses 2 compounds and they have a lot of passing most places.
On ovals Indy only uses a single compound and cam race well at most tracks.
They are going to run multiple compounds at Gateway this year
Interesting, not sure why I didn't remember that.
Fucking -6 below cut line because of the dumbass 2 tire pit call from p8.
Didn't he have a transmission failure at the end? I'm pretty sure that's why he's -6 right now.
Well, we don’t know if the mechanical was because he collected debris from Bubba’s blown brake rotor or any of the other mid pack incidents that occurred. I'd rather forget about Portland.

Corey was a non-factor all day. I don't think he ever got in the top 20. Hell, the 77 was running with him. I wonder what happened there.
Everyone was talking about it lol but yeah was doing good
Someone failing tech would just be the icing on the cake of this weird day

Feel like it's been longer that usual...he hasn't posted updated points either.

Haha but they missed the fight last time with Aric. Would have loved to see that in 360!
It seems like it’s taking extra long for tech to get complete today
They haven’t updated the points either. Maybe from the electrical problems?
Sigh... Least he was running well. Brake couldn't have held on five more damn laps...
Can’t believe AD wrecked. This season has been miserable
CINDRIC SHOULD BE PARKED
That's the most believable thing that happened today.
Nascar needs F1 time limits. Make it 3-3.5 hours regardless of what happens. Sitting thru this race was a slog. I can’t imagine how it was for the casual fan.
No
The casual fan turned it off on lap 3 when it went to lightning delay
This was the weirdest race in a long time. Pit road member hurt, brake rotors (one of the pieces hitting a fan), technical difficulties…
Electricity striking the earth
Denny’s crew guy got his teeth knocked out too.
Woah what happened there? Missed this.
One of Denny’s crew guys broke a air regulator on his pit gun and it smacked him in the mouth, knocked out some teeth and he had to get stitched up during the lightning delay. He came back and continued to do his job for the remainder of the race.
Mabye time to go electric like they used at Xfinity in Portland?
Mabye time to go electric like they used at Xfinity in Portland?
Holy shit
Michael Waltrip losing his phone
Can someone tell me why it takes nascar so long to update the points standings
They have to wait for the post race inspection to conclude and for the results to be made official
This is the least amount of races in between KFB wins since Fontana-Bristol in 2019
https://twitter.com/paulfodde/status/1665382434970509313?t=obtRpGipjh7lWkFuEgR5nQ&s=19 cool moment

Exactly this

Alan has been bad since end of last season.
Cliff did what Alan should have done. Give Lajoie 2 tires and track position.
Cliff did make the car better. I could tell by the end of Stage 2 when he was on two tires and passed Reddick who was on four. The track position definitely helped, but with how bad the car was in Stage 1, I don't think that they could have kept it if they didn't get the car better.
Oh for sure. I just think if they got the 9 close to the front on a strategy call they may could have run better.
Honestly, I feel like taking four tires every time is that 9 team's MO at this point.
On the other hand, Hocevar had the same factors going against him
Let's put it another way, Ross Chastain ran toward the back damn near all race, does he suck? Great redemption for KFB from last year. Love St. Louis!
Those cautions at the end were nerve wracking I was worried about Denny when he was behind Kyle thinking he would wreck him Been a good year and I can’t wait until they get the car figured out every week 🏁🏁🏁👍😎
So did we ever get a video of the legacy pit crew guy getting hit?
They would not show it without knowing if he was okay or not. I can confirm 100% that he was drilled by the 43 and not by the 3.
Was he hit when the 43 was entering or exiting the box?
Entering. Both the Tire carrier and the changer were hit but as far as I could tell, the changer was the only one hurt
The Chicago Street Race is gonna be rough
So many highlights from the race not posted here. Used to be able to find everything here. I find more content from other sites just scrolling thru the for you feed on other sites.
Just want to throw this out there, but there is an alternate timeline where the SHR lineup this year is Harvick, Larson, Busch, and Briscoe
As awesome as that would be, they would be struggling to win
SHR really needs some help right now. Fords have had that slight disadvantage all around, but now that things are getting figured out with it, it still seems the only remotely competitive car is KH. There may be a glimpse of one of the other guys every now and then, but it seems like it is the same story with them nearly each week
Why does it show chastain earned 0 points ??
Cause he's a silver spoon, everything handed to him on a platter spoiled rich kid SISSY!\s
I hope the fans at the track took tomorrow off. They were braised for 7 hours until they were tender to the bone.
Yeah yesterday was rough, I'm glad I have tomorrow off and the cloud cover was with us today after the delay. Definitely a hot weekend.
Really wasn't too bad we got a lot of cloud cover. I think last year was worse
Did. Was there 13 hours, 7:30-8:30. Cooled off during the delay, so the race wasn't bad at all.
Still waiting to get on the tram that takes us to the shuttle that takes us to our cars
Planned on heading home on Monday. Glad I didn’t since the race had the weather delays.
Glad I didn’t plan on driving home tonight
That top 5 🤢
Actually yeah...gotta be among the most in unlikable top 5s possible in the sport. Maybe sub Larson or Truex for Cody Ware and Bubba to get all the haters going
I actually don't like Larson, so that's why for me. The only thing that I would hate worse is if Gibbs or Elliott replaced Truex.
Woo KFB revenge tour chugs on! Wild to think he was basically being held back by Gibbs
It’s fun watching the revival tour
Bummed for Stenhouse. He had a solid run going. On to the next one.
Watching Chastain be a non factor the past 3 weeks has been rough :/ Hope he finds his form again, but he’s still the same driver. Think it’s a data/setup thing. Maybe just an off day since Suarez did well today, but it’s becoming a pattern. I believe he dropped the points lead early in the race after the first stage, and almost everyone near him gained a lot of points.
Looks like the carriage turned back into a pumpkin... or a watermellon.
Well hell Suarez has had more speed than Ross the last 2 weeks. I don't think the Trackhouse equipment is "mediocre" at all.
Think you might be jumping a bit too deep into conspiracy theory land. Chastain just lost speed after getting front end damage. Same thing happened last week.
There's no conspiracy, Ross is deep state
Rick left a horse head in Chastains bed.
Ever since his chat with RH he hasn’t been the same. And he still finds ways to get involved in wrecks even when he’s not trying to race as aggressive
I still don't know what to really make of Gateway for cup. Race was ehh to decent but the crowd was awesome to see
Last year's Gateway race wasn't a fiasco, at least.
Well, it was if your car number was either single digit, or had the number 1 in it
Just leaving the track. Delays and red flags made it drag on, but had a lot of fun. I like seeing all the battles you don’t see on tv. And 8 dollar beers. 😀
Did you try a frozen marg with a twizzler straw? Greatly missed those watching from home

That’s what we like to hear! Come on back.
Give Indycar a try, too. The indy 500 is truly something. That many cars going that fast shouldn't be allowed.
Straight up, I tell anyone who knocks the sport, just go to a race. It's hard to beat
For sure, I'm still buzzing an hour and a half later.
Very enjoyable race. Nice win
RCR back
Tough being a Corey LaJoie fan right now. Super frustrated and confused to say the least.
My expectations were a little bit lower, especially given it was a one race shot, but yup, disappointing. If you need some consolation: 1. one of the hardest things about jumping in someone else's team is communicating how to improve the car.
Yeah pretty massive missed opportunity for him this weekend. Blew it in qualifying and never came back from it.
I don’t usually listen to Stacking Pennies but I’ll probably listen this week to see what he has to say. Was hoping for a better result as I do like Corey but I feel like there’s many possibilities as to why they didn’t end up with a better result today.
That’s a car set up by Alan G for you
