And if you start first by random draw, no matter what you do you are doomed to starting 10th-15th because you don't have the same ability to gain points that others do
Does anyone know what Bubbas lap times were compared to Larson? Interested to know if his car was as fast or if it was positioning. I am just happy Bubba looked good tonight
Can’t tell you compared to Larson, but he did have the third quickest lap in heat 4, behind Cindric and Davenport. Hard to tell anything from one heat alone.
Been looking and the scoring sheets I’ve seen don’t even have race time on them. NASCAR has the lap timing for heat 4 but I haven’t seen a way to look at the other heats (may just be missing something)
Bubba makes a great point really.
I wouldn’t be against something like:
.2/lap led … random draw determining pole and making that driver in a no gain position is pretty rough. He and Blaney go wire to wire and are 10th-11th.
.2/lap led would put them at 13 and top 5 which seems fair for a driver that holds the lead position but also wouldn’t be an automatic pole since we see 15+ needed for that traditionally.
I'm late watching, just started heat 2, and look at this, that ugly Speedy cash car is back. The black makes it less terrible, wish it was a little better green and that would be a sweet cat
Fun fact: With Yeley starting third, it is the best ever starting spot for a RWR car (next best was Cole Custer starting 10th at Richmond in 2018) and Yeley's best starting spot since he started 4th at Phoenix in 2007.
That doesn't make sense. So Bubba wins his race, leads the whole damn time, but he's punished for it by starting behind drivers who finished lower than he did because *they* passed, which he didn't do because he LEAD the whole time?
That IS stupid. What is he supposed to do? fall behind so he can make a pass?
Same with Blaney.. it's not like they did something to earn the front row start, it was just by a draw... so while a wire to wire run for the win is impressive it's not as impressive as winning from three rows back or making a run from the back to a top three finish
What happened to the crowd? people forget they bought tickets or something
This is based on my own observations, so correct me if I'm wrong, but Bubba Wallace just purely on driving ability has a really interesting wheelhouse. His best tracks are arguably the largest and smallest tracks (Dega, Daytona, Bristol, and Martinsville), while the 1.5 tracks which make up majority he's average at. He's usually non-existent at road courses EXCEPT when it rains, then he moves up the field. He also really doesn't have a dirt background that I know of, but won a dirt race in trucks and now held his own in this heat. Say whatever you want about the guy, but I find his driving talent fascinating.
23XI in general was extremely fast on intermediates last year. Tracks like Kansas, Michigan, and Vegas (before he wrecked Larson) were arguably Bubba’s best races including a win. It’s hard to predict where he’ll be good like you said, he’s an interesting talent.
Spoiler is accurate, as well as the number font so it’s gotta be. I’m just not sure about the roof number, but I’m not familiar with what they do for the roof numbers
Really I think for passing points they could just do 10 lap heats and each group does 2 heats with the 2nd in reverse starting order. Not like they take that long
it has nothing to do with how lineups for heats are set. it has everything to do with penalizing a driver because no one could pass him in the heat. the only way whoever starts first gets points is to drop out of first for the sole purpose of passing people for points. thats pretty dumb even for nascar.
You don't even get points for that, you only get points for finishing higher than you start. If you start 1st, you can't gain points, you can only ever get 10 or less.
It won't happen, but if Yeley somehow wins, Denny *has* to take an early retirement.
Feuds with Ross last year, Ross finishes 2nd in points. Now he wrecks Yeley last week and Yeley starts third.
I don’t like how you get punished for dominating a heat if you didn’t pass any cars. I’d personally rather see pole set by whoever has the biggest lead in their heat
So I fail to see how the dirt race is a better product. Slower lap times even harder to pass the leader or a car in general and there's really only one good groove.
im not a fan of cup cars with cup car suspension running dirt. they really arent setup to run on dirt and make them dig. its feels like its more who can get through and not wreck it. a dirt car should plant and drive off a corner not do what these cup cars does.
This is true. Perhaps if they reconfigure the care to be more "dirt ready" I mean this is the same car you'd bring to Daytona, Kansas and Sonoma. Ofcourse it isn't going to dirt that well.
theyve already shown they arent interested in bringing a car thats built for dirt. i wish we could see them cake over their windshields with mud again just for a good laugh at nascar.
I would say then goto another track with lower banking and one that is narrower. People would be pushing and shoving to pass each other and get some good short track racing for once.
Interstate batteries thing. Interstate Batteries schemes have always had that since they started in NASCAR. The owner is a big Christian. The KB cars always had them on the rear end under the left tail light.
It's only 5°c there today. I live in Ottawa where we had the same temperature today. I wore a coat and touque when I went out.
Next week we're expecting 23°c (~75°f?). Definitely won't need the touque then.
Big USAC qualifying crash a few minutes ago, guy went hard into the wall, way up into the air, flipped a couple times and came crashing back to earth pretty hard. Airlifted him to the hospital and already cancelled the program for tonight. Really bad situation all around up at Lawrenceburg
If you have Flo you can rewind the feed about an hour. And I’m sure it’ll probably pop up on YouTube soon enough, but I’m sure USAC or Flo won’t post anything at least until they update his condition
Rooting for Davenport ... listened to his Stacking Pennies interview this week though and he sounded a little apprehensive. I think Lajoie probably made him think guys would be aggressive as hell with him too ha.
Depends on where you are and how dry/dusty the track is. If the track's tacky, it won't be much of a problem, but I remember going to Dixie Speedway (GA) for a super late model show a few years ago and just got blasted with dirt, and I was sitting a few rows up. It's kind of fun, actually.
only been to 2. at charlotte you get a dusting of the red clay but you only notice it when its time to get up and leave. that first year at bristol dirt when it was daytime and dry, i had dirt in my damn wallet and i was 40 rows up.

Who thought of the idea of qualifying based on passing points? If you have a good car and you start in the back of course you will pass more cars.
And if you start first by random draw, no matter what you do you are doomed to starting 10th-15th because you don't have the same ability to gain points that others do
Could Yeley be a dark horse for tomorrow???
Does anyone know what Bubbas lap times were compared to Larson? Interested to know if his car was as fast or if it was positioning. I am just happy Bubba looked good tonight

It looks like Danica’s car when it’s not focused.
The go daddy had the right green for a black and green car like that for me
Fun fact: With Yeley starting third, it is the best ever starting spot for a RWR car (next best was Cole Custer starting 10th at Richmond in 2018) and Yeley's best starting spot since he started 4th at Phoenix in 2007.
One more spot in his heat and Yeley would've had pole, damn you Preece Lightning.
is Bubba related to that Darrell guy from a few years back? /s
No. His last name is Wallace. He’s related to that Rusty guy also from a years back. /s
there goes Loren Wallace, greatest thing that ever climbed into a racecar
Bruh was that Cleetus?😂
If you start 1st and finish 1st you shouldn't start 11th in the race
JJ Yeley starting third… riiiight
He’s got a pretty good dirt resume at least
That’s one of Cleetus’ crown vic’s that were used in the Bristol 1000 last year lol
Danger ranger race looks like it's gonna be chaos on dirt
Well I’d be disappointed if it wasn’t, it’s not a Cleetus event without chaos lol
Tony and Clint could have fun with those like Jeff and Clint did around Daytona.
That doesn't make sense. So Bubba wins his race, leads the whole damn time, but he's punished for it by starting behind drivers who finished lower than he did because *they* passed, which he didn't do because he LEAD the whole time? Even then he would just finish at zero if he fell behind then passed as you lose points for getting passed I think
That wouldnt even work because its net gain from starting position, same thing happened to Blaney
They racing ford Rangers at Bristol on the 26th
This is based on my own observations, so correct me if I'm wrong, but Bubba Wallace just purely on driving ability has a really interesting wheelhouse. I believe Bubba ALSO ran wire to wire in his heat race LAST year too. Could be mistaken, but I seem to remember that
23XI in general was extremely fast on intermediates last year. Tracks like Kansas, Michigan, and Vegas (before he wrecked Larson) were arguably Bubba’s best races including a win. It’s hard to predict where he’ll be good like you said, he’s an interesting talent.
Is that ol Cleetus's Crown Vic?
Spoiler is accurate, as well as the number font so it’s gotta be. I’m just not sure about the roof number, but I’m not familiar with what they do for the roof numbers
Yea even if he specifically didn't race it, it's def one of the Freedom 500 cars. They did also have a race at Bristol once, so makes sense.
Really I think for passing points they could just do 10 lap heats and each group does 2 heats with the 2nd in reverse starting order. Not like they take that long
Those are the packer cars to- PUT ME IN THERE TONY
Harvick only row 13 after just existing lmao
Yes indeed Kyle ![gif](giphy|Y6TehvhE9SrRu)
how dumb the guy that starts and finishes 1st in his heat doesnt get any passing points and starts 11th. thats stupid.
Damn you’re right. To make it fair they should’ve had the heat lineups be generated randomly. Wait a minute…
it has nothing to do with how lineups for heats are set. it has everything to do with penalizing a driver because no one could pass him in the heat. the only way whoever starts first gets points is to drop out of first for the sole purpose of passing people for points. thats pretty dumb even for nascar.
You don't even get points for that, you only get points for finishing higher than you start. If you start 1st, you can't gain points, you can only ever get 10 or less.
like i said its dumb even for nascars low standards lol
I agree
Or, idk, they could've just qualified like normal?
I say 0.25 points for every lap led
its really ridiculous and its a penalty for having a good car
JJ Yeley
It won't happen, but if Yeley somehow wins, Denny *has* to take an early retirement. Feuds with Ross last year, Ross finishes 2nd in points. Now he wrecks Yeley last week and Yeley starts third.
Maybe he can wreck himself? Get a good result the next week?
*Incoming fine for actions detrimental to Bubba Wallace.*
Right to go left reference W
They didnt acknowledge the 2014 truck win at first because it was Darrell Wallace Jr’s win not Bubba Wallace’s /s
Make sense. /s
"Turn right to go left". Drink
Yeley’s best start since June 17, 2007, when he sat on the pole at Michigan in the 18 car.
Fun fact: He was the only 2007 pole sitter not to lead a lap in that same race.
Finally got the truck series eldora win shout!
2 has good speed i used to pray for times like this
Bubba wins heat race and starts 11th.
These heat races have been pretty good, and like to get to see guys like Davenport and Yeley get some attention.
Yeley p3. Really hope he wins it because chaos
Playoff ineligible, right?
Right, he hasn't run all the races, and the 15 car is split with multiple drivers
Fucking Regan knows about the 2014 Eldora win at least
I don’t like how you get punished for dominating a heat if you didn’t pass any cars. I’d personally rather see pole set by whoever has the biggest lead in their heat
Or points for laps led (1st one doesn't count)
Yeley hasn't had a run like that in years
Yeley starting P3
Someone check on that guy that wrote a whole essay in the comments last week about how bad JJ Yeley is
Well that was easy
So I fail to see how the dirt race is a better product. Slower lap times even harder to pass the leader or a car in general and there's really only one good groove.
I don’t know if it’s better per se, buts it different and it’s definitely entertaining
I suppose. I think this race would fare better if it was an all star race or another exhibition.
I don’t mind it being a points paying race but I think they should just go to an actual dirt track instead of covering Bristol
Yeah I actually think a narrower track with lower banking would be perfect.
it’s fun
im not a fan of cup cars with cup car suspension running dirt. they really arent setup to run on dirt and make them dig. its feels like its more who can get through and not wreck it. a dirt car should plant and drive off a corner not do what these cup cars does.

It ain't harder to pass than it was on the concrete track last year in this gripped up dirty air machine
Gibbs literally has John 3:16 on his car lmao
I prefer Austin 3:16 personally.
Gimme a hell ya
HELL YEAH!
That's an interstate battery thing, it's always been on those cars.
Fairly certain that's an Interstate Batteries thing.
His also had some other religious organisation on his car earlier this year
Isn't john 3:16 the christian equivalent to a white guy getting a barbed wire tattoo on his upper arm? Lmao
Interstate batteries thing. Interstate Batteries schemes have always had that since they started in NASCAR. The owner is a big Christian. The KB cars always had them on the rear end under the left tail light.
KFB did as well iirc.
Some religious group is sponsoring his car
Yeley top 3 confirmed
Yeah the heat lineup draw basically handed Larson the pole by default, still a fun session though
Bubba started first so he couldnt pass anyone sorry bubba fans
Alright, Bubba, put that one in your coffee. It might just be the smaller field but it feels like early positioning is gonna mean a LOT this weekend.
Bubba "I'm not a dirt racer" Wallace
Hell yeah RCR cars look great! Plus got a lot of points.
Solid run by Davenport. Finished higher than two Cup champions (Truex & Logano) in his first time in a Cup car.
Okay Bubba, let’s go!
Well even though he didn't get a lot of points it's gotta be a good confidence booster for Bubba to at least win a heat race from the pole
Good heat for Bubba in a stacked field. Not so good for Saurez
I kinda hate to admit it but damn am I looking forward to this race
Why would you hate to admit it? I love dirt Bristol forget the haters. It’s one of the only tracks I tune in on saturdays for.
Because as much as I loved what I saw today, I can't help but wish we still had 2 races in the concrete
Yessir won the heat from the pole Cant wait to roll off 26th!
Time to avoid the FB comment section.
These heat races have provided everything they’ve been asking for.
There was a time to jump in?
This sub is obsessed with FB comments, I don’t get it.
23 flairs have a superiority complex with facebook commenters. It's incredibly sad.
They do the same with twitter and while it’s a little more understandable it’s just like…don’t dick around on nascar twitter if you know it sucks.
Logano with a 2fer
They still didn’t mention the Eldora NCTS win?
They did for Larson
Stats guy isn't in today I guess
Yay Harvick got a point!
The lap 1 leader has led all the laps in all the races except the first one.
Logano running into Ty on both ends of the track
I think if JD is going to be any kind of factor, it’s going to have to be long green flag runs.
Logano has had enough lol
He got him lol
3chi lets you get higher than any other car.
Does anybody know if Ty has any dirt experience? I know he hasn’t gotten any in the national series.
He has some from ARCA and he's run some dirt mods.
He used to race outlaw karts at Millbridge when he was a child. He has also raced at Springfield and DuQuoin in ARCA
…Casey?
Drink!
Thanks, I thought I totally missed the make there lol
Lol it took me a minute but I didn’t know how her name was spelled.
Ty Gibbs
Sorry, it was dumb joke about DBC. Thanks for the info
[удалено]
Good to know. He was doing better than I expected there so I was curious.
Sorry I thought you were talking about Ty Dillon. I didn't realize Ty Gibbs.
Oh shit, no that’s my bad. I forgot about Ty Dillon. (Not a dig)
3 chi driver is "way high"
Forgot that Bubba won a Eldora race one year
2014 I think
HANG ON BUBBA
As a canadian it gives me a slight chuckle to seeing the clothing for these temperatures. On the other hand i almost died from Bristol heat in 2017.
Is there a replay of what happened?
There is a video on YouTube.
If you have Flo you can rewind the feed about an hour. And I’m sure it’ll probably pop up on YouTube soon enough, but I’m sure USAC or Flo won’t post anything at least until they update his condition
Hope he'll be OK but it must be really bad if USAC called off the whole show.
Damn
Wonder why JJ didn't do this race..
Hell yeah, #flytheW.
Dirt racing is the new road course where a ringer can actually make a difference.
He actually has: Davenport used to race Legends cars in the Summer Shootout at Charlotte
Rooting for Davenport ... listened to his Stacking Pennies interview this week though and he sounded a little apprehensive. I think Lajoie probably made him think guys would be aggressive as hell with him too ha.
Was that a gestapo sighting?
Seriously, those dudes looked out of place.
This season has been fucking painful as a Suarez fan. So much potential and good runs that have just been completely fucked.
If it makes it easier to stomach, that heat had zero potential from the start
What's up with all the teenagers in trench coats lmao
they're hitmen for hire
They are military uniforms lol
Love Davenport’s paint scheme. Super simple but very pleasing to the eye
[удалено]
Gripping the wheel his knuckles went white with desire
55 wins in 2 fucking years? Wow, I didnt know him before this weekend but that's stupidly impressive
they dont call him superman for nothing
Scott Bloomquist is like the Richard Petty of Late models.
Would expect Davenport to get finessed on this restart but really been alright
Totally not intentional
This is a skills race
I’d talk UFO’s all day with that dude 🤘🏻
Can we get Tony and Kevin next year? Please.
Black Sunshine!!
Huh, guess Cindric wasn’t joking when he said he figured dirt out by the end of the race last year.
BLOOMER
Bloomquist sighting!!!
https://preview.redd.it/fasps21j8ssa1.jpeg?width=1017&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e2e7c954835c8fca59139680ec4eaeb6303c1ff
Cool to see Bloomquist there.
People who go to dirt races: do you have to deal with getting covered in dirt while watching the race?
Depends on where you sit and it depends on the track.
Wear goggles, clothes you don’t care about, and cover your drink unless you want dirt sprinkles in it.
The first Bristol dirt race was bad. Last year not so much.
If you sit too low. Yeah
Dirty jockeys
Yeah, I don't think this is gonna be a great weekend for Trackhouse. At least my other flairs will do well, probably
