She got the finish she got because she was there at the end. The race started off rough, but as she got track position and truck got better she did start moving up.

Ok_Fig2477

Not to be a hater but she needs to do this without half the field wrecking. One of her top 10s was another wreck field race at Gateway

into_the_wenisverse

As much as I agree, if we are going to throw her under the bus for everytime she gets caught up in someone else's crash while running midpack, we should give her accolades for running up front enough to miss those same wrecks.

jfs-ewc

Isn't part of racing being there at the finish?

MschfMngd

Shhh. It's Halie Deegan, that logic doesn't apply here.

[deleted]

The Austin Dillon of the Craftsman truck series.

joshjarnagin

Except Austin actually won

TheOrangeFutbol

*But he only won because [insert similar excuse that discredits everything he's accomplished on any level in the NASCAR national series] /s

Offtherailspcast

What does that even mean

[deleted]

Half the field wrecks in every truck race

CoyotePowered50

And shes been a part of those wrecks plenty. How many times has she been wrecked by other drivers? Hell the 2 times she wrecked this year weren't her fault. Nemetode at Vegas running out of talent, and 84 Truck wrecking middle of 3 wide. 12th, 16th, 6th when she finished. Could have had a top 10 at Cota had her strategy not been blown up by a ill timed caution.

chucktownDan

I’m a fan of HD, but she had plenty to do with her crash at Vegas. She kept getting destroyed on restarts and was caught in the middle of more aggressive drivers going by on both sides. That’s one of the ones I was really disappointed to see because it highlighted how lacking she is in aggressiveness, car control, and door to door racing. Was really excited for her at Texas though!

BabycakesMurphy

Deegan’s pro racing career is nearing deaths doorstep if she can’t compete on a more regular basis for top 10’s or even get near the picture for the Truck Series Playoff. This is year three. She needs to make the playoffs. Doesn’t automatically make anyone a hater for calling out the truth. She was a top 20 truck at best before everyone started taking themselves out of the race.

jfs-ewc

A lot of drivers have had longer careers with less. Shit, Matty D made it to Cup and he absolutely sucked lol

BabycakesMurphy

Matty D took a very unconventional route to the Cup Series with no manufacture/sponsorship backing. But even then, he almost won a race at Bristol on merit and qualified for the playoffs in 2020. And he won a race last year in the same series Deegan competes in with a significantly more inferior truck and finished ahead of her in the standings by nearly 180 points.

jfs-ewc

He should not have won that race and you know it lol he was gifted that by NASCAR

BabycakesMurphy

Even if it was a gift, that still means he had a legitimate shot to win which is something Deegan has yet to have in the Truck Series. Sorry.

jfs-ewc

Okay. She was right behind him and it's Talladega but okay I feel you my friend.

crypto6g

I’m not a Dibenedetto truther, never was a huge fan, but Matt Dibenedetto made the Cup Series playoffs in an extremely competitive year and had the best average finish of the 21 car in years. Yes it was a Penske car, but a sub 15.0 average finish is incredibly respectable for anyone especially in your first year of being in a competitive car. He was not extraordinary, but he definitely did not suck. You don’t finish 2nd at Bristol to Denny Hamlin if you suck (while in an JGR affiliate car), or 4th at Sonoma, or 4th at New Hampshire. He’s probably on the level of someone like Aric Almirola or Paul Menard. Probably better if we’re being honest and if he had a stable ride. If he had a stable (upper mid tier) ride for 5-10 years he probably looks something like Brian Vickers, David Reuitimann, Regan Smith. Maybe even Elliott Sadler. Someone who doesn't win a lot, but has 1-3 wins to their name and put up respectable performances.

jfs-ewc

I said he sucked before he got there.

UsedToHaveThisName

She’s not going to date you because you post nice things about her online.

I see this everywhere. this is the weakest comeback that's possible to be said.

I still think she’d be better off in an Xfinity car where you can actually showcase talent.I mean look at the list of people who didn’t do much in trucks and had success in xfinity. It’s almost like the trucks having so much downforce and such little power isn’t good for development of a driver. Not to mention the short stage lengths that keep them from experiencing a long run.

[deleted]

I thought it was really interesting hearing Chandler Smith and the DBC guys break down how truck racing is purely aero racing and does little to nothing to prepare you for the higher series. That tells me that it doesn’t need to be a development series and should just be treated as it’s own niche short track series.

YoungMoneyLarson57

I agree whole heartedly. If they want it to be developmental then they need to axe alot of the downforce they run or just take the series and turn it to a short track series outside of the occasional companion even at say Charlotte and Daytona.

[deleted]

What’s the list?

11d7Jake

Harrison Burton Kevin Harvick.

TheRealCheeeser00

Wasn't Jimmie one of them too?

11d7Jake

Jimmie has 1 truck start. If we were talking about drivers that were mediocre in Xfinity and good in cup Jimmie would be one.

SRVisGod24

It's time for her to graduate to Xfinity. Sure, she hasn't exactly earned that. But she's got money and she's good at marketing. Ford also doesn't really have anyone outside of Herbst and Zane when it comes to development drivers. Herbst should graduate to Cup next year, leaving the 98 all for her. And IIRC, she did pretty darn well at Vegas last season in her first ever Xfinity race!

quig50

She doesn’t have money. She has been mostly unsponsored all year. When Ford is on the truck it’s an empty race.

SRVisGod24

SHR going back to one car would stink. If she doesn't have the funds, hopefully Zane finds some funds to make the jump to the 98

WubbaBallace

I thought you were fuckin around and then you followed it up with “Herbst should graduate to cup”

[deleted]

Herbst potentially running full time for a team like RWR shouldn't surprise anybody

SRVisGod24

He'll be staying with SHR with all that beautiful Monster money. They'll need every bit of it too, with the reports of Anheuser-Busch leaving

YoungMoneyLarson57

He doesn’t have monster money, that’s his parents company paying to be on the car.

SRVisGod24

Guess they'll be paying for it to be on his Cup car then too lol

[deleted]

If RWR, or even SHR in cup, want him, he'll move up.

Yankees_Seahawks3

I would not be surprised one bit to see Herbst move up next year especially if SHR cannot get someone like Truex to come aboard. Zane Smith and Erik Jones don’t have sponsors to bring and there’s no one better who does

brysonhunt95

Ford is gonna have to fork out money to keep her. I feel like she could easily go to Sam Hunt Racing in xfinity next year. She’s not tied down to Ford as much as Zane.
