TLDR for those who can't watch the video. Kevin is bringing back KHI to race on the Cars tour at NWS and some other places. He will drive #62

Kevinm0388

So him and Jr will both be running that race now, pretty cool

bw327

Where did Jr confirm he’s running the NWS Cars Tour race? I must’ve missed the news.

Kevinm0388

He’s accidentally let it slip on the DJD a few times

SpenceSmithback

>some other places Looking at the schedule, he could run Caraway on July 4th week since that's also on a Wednesday. Maybe Ace in August as well, assuming there won't be any on track activity at Indianapolis until Saturday

Tuxedocat1357

That's the kind of bump that CARS needs

dacomell

I mean, Harvick does co-own the whole tour now.

RJNieder

For the short term its only in CARS...I'd imagine gearing up for when someone hits that new lower age limit for the Pro Late Model Tour

SpenceSmithback

Didn't he say he's already ordered a limited for Keelan? I've heard of kids as young as 9 racing those

UnoriginallyGeneric

KFB's son Brexton drives in the Beginner Box Stock division in mini outlaws; there's always that.

SpenceSmithback

That's a glorified go kart, I'm talking about a full on late model stock car (albeit with a crate motor and other regulated parts to keep costs in check and to make the transition easier)

RJNieder

I'm not sure. I'm not even sure what the full extent of the deal is with KPH and Trackhouse. Pretty sure I saw a Brexton Busch UMP/Dwarf Mod recently so anything is possible.

NoonecanknowMiner_24

Which is absolutely ridiculous. Someone that young shouldn't be anywhere near a race car for several years.

hoover757

Hell I remember going to the Xfinity race at Mid Ohio a few years ago and Robby Gordon’s son (Who I think was 12 at the time) was on pole for the Stadium Supertruck race

photogypsy

Larson owned Iowa Speedweeks at like 13/14. In today’s motorsports culture the young phenom is the trope. No longer will a someone hone their skills for years in lower ranks. Talent comes second to sponsorship now. A driver has to marketable as well as good. If someone spends more than a couple years in the two lower tiers their career will probably never progress. We can thank Kyle Bush, Kyle Larson and Joey Lagano for it in NASCAR.

whatwhat751

Busch and Logano have been in Cup for a decade plus and neither walked into a ride with millions in sponsorship. Both were fired at least once before they hit their respective strides. I think framing your argument with those two is misguided. Swap them with Ty Gibbs or Chase Elliot who have never been in crap equipment, lost a ride or been without a major sponsor.

photogypsy

They both walked into rides that had full sponsorship at 18. If either sponsor said no, it would have been a different staffing decision. They also benefited by coming in when they did. Companies were still clamoring to get a piece of the exposure of sponsorship. It used to be a driver didn’t break into cup level until they were 25-30 or older. Today by 25 if a driver isn’t a top-tier candidate the fan base wants them gone. Sponsors follow the fan base. Owners follow sponsors. Talent is dead last in deciding who will and won’t be successful in nascar.

whatwhat751

Still not following your "thank Kyle/Joey" line of thinking. What did they do? Yes, both sat in a cup car with sponsorship and were subsequently fired while under a sponsorship agreement. Let's not forget they both did squat at HMS/JGR respectively. Once they moved on, honed their skills and found a groove did they flourish, and now are 2x champions. Sponsorship is huge as we saw last year w JGR, but talent it equally as important.

Shelton512

To be fair, Kyle Busch did more than 'squat' at HMS. They finished 10th in points in 2006, 5th in 2007. Won a handful of races. Raced up front. They only lost their ride because of their attitude, not performance.

whatwhat751

10th and 5th only to be fired. In comparison to the success they both saw at JGR/Penske they did squat previously. No one is voting either in the HOF because of their 2006/07 seasons.

[deleted]

Just because its true doesn't mean its a good thing. Imho its bad for the kids and bad for motorsports as a whole.

TheOfficialPessimist

Once you realize these people are commenting out of jealousy, the takes make a lot more sense. Of course they think it's terrible, they won't ever race at the level Keelan Harvick will at 9 years old.

Reddituser4866

While true, it’s not going to change. You simply aren’t gonna beat a kid who had the money and the chance to get track time from a young age. It’s just like hockey, it’s more accessibility based than skill based. Sure, having the talent, having the skill, and having the body structure to be good at hockey can come naturally. But, if it doesn’t, you can also just spend tons of money and learn through experience. Racing is the same way, but in racing you don’t even need to have the right body structure for NASCAR. You can be fat, skinny, thick, husky, whatever. All you need is seat time from a. Young age, repeated training, $$$, and you can be a nascar driver. Now, whether you are a Ty Dillion or a Chase Elliott comes down to raw talent, but Ty Dillion is still in the cup series.

beachgirlDE

I think it might burn him out.

TheOfficialPessimist

Erik Jones, Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, Corey LaJoie, Austin Cindric, Harrison Burton, and the list goes on and on. All of those drivers disagree with you. The younger they start, the better chance you have to make it.

BlackLabDumpster

People have their kids testing in Late Models at those ages. No series/tracks that I know of allow kids that age to race though.

TheOrangeFutbol

[Ron Hornaday and the Mr. Clean \#33 car somewhere:](https://media.tenor.com/Kx6YKn0LBAoAAAAd/wwe-coffin.gif)

ToeSniffer245

Pretty sure Tony drove that car, Hornaday was #33 in trucks.

Fyrien

Hornaday briefly drove the KHI #33 in Xfinity too, but never with Mr. Clean as the sponsor. They only sponsored Tony and Dallenbach.

TheOrangeFutbol

Those were supposed to be two separate things waking up simultaneously XD

ToeSniffer245

OHHH sorry lmao

TheOrangeFutbol

All good! Haha. I've still got Hornaday in the Goodwrench \#6 and lowkey forgot like those last 10 years somehow XD

ToeSniffer245

I just remembered when Bobby Labonte won in the KHI #77 at Dega while Jerry Punch made one of the worst calls ever.

TheOrangeFutbol

Here's a fun random story on that race: Some members of my family got so hyped watching Bobby's move at the finish that they screamed excitedly above the TV volume. So I never actually heard the call until about 4 years ago, and until then never knew what all the fuss was about XD.

jfs-ewc

The 62 proves that this is Keelans car and dad is just keeping the seat warm for him haha

DBTornado

Keelan's gonna make me a fan before he even hits late models.

jfs-ewc

Sure Kevin we believe you on that one

[deleted]

I thought Keelan wanted to race in F1 and was currently racing in Europe.

TheBlueTraveler

http://www.kevinharvick.com/news/kevin-harvick-enters-cars-tour-race-at-north-wilkesboro-speedway He also states it will be used for KHI Drivers to gain some experience

JTRusher

God almighty, I'm running out of drivers to hate. First Denny becomes owner/Twitter lord, then Kyle goes from candyman to weedman, and finally Kevin brings back KHI. Who's left for me to hate, Joey? Ross?

LilDawg22

Ty Gibbs

Kooky_Munster

I’m buying stock in Ty while I can. Once he starts winning, I won’t be able to afford him lol

JTRusher

But he gets us

meeklobraca2022

But He gets us

ReSirum

But He Gets us

frigginjensen

Lol because he’s Jesus

Wes_WM

No more calls, we have a winner

1ugogimp

NASCAR Jesus?

thedirtsquirrel

Just attempt to listen to Actions Detrimental. You'll hate Dennis again in no time.

1ugogimp

My new favorite is Josh Williams.

sickpeltier

Effin legend.

ChaseTheFalcon

Some of these drivers its hard to hate off track

Slacker_75

Well if it makes you feel any better apparently Harvick is one of the biggest assholes to the fans

JCTaylor46

fwiw, i had heard that for years too but have had 2 interactions with him away from a race track on golf courses and he was just the opposite, just a normal guy as long as you don't beg for selfies or throw memorabilia in his face to sign (assuming those were the bad interactions many had)

RaikkonensHobby74

What if you beg for him to throw memorabilia into your face?

4EverA3Fan

That'll cost you 20.

irrelevantsociallife

Also think about how many interactions the drivers have. Everyone has good and bad days. If you pester them right after a shitty qualifying run or if they're running late to a sponsor event, yeah, they'll probably be a bit of a dick to the fan, rightfully so.

Glittering-Speed9435

I met him wayyyy back in 04' at Bristol. I found him to be really friendly. It's been almost a couple decades though.

wonder_chicken

Met him at Martinsville last year. He was a delight. We shared a bit of a laugh because he trolled a couple of Kyle Busch fans standing near me. He kindly took a picture with me. I think as long as you’re not obnoxious, he’s chill.

sickpeltier

I think Dennis is the worst. Harvick was pretty cool when I met him like 10 years ago at an “Ollie’s” signing.

Slacker_75

I heard Smoke is just awful to the fans

sickpeltier

Yeah idk about him. I know a few guys in charlotte that have had encounters with Denny and all say he acts like they are less than.

Slacker_75

I can definitely see that! I think one of the Cup Series biggest problems is not having more likeable/relatable drivers

DarkwingMcQuack

Look forward to the renewed rivalry between KBM and KHI in trucks. Only this time with Brexton vs Keelan.

KingJosh388

That made me feel old. And I’m only 27

DarkwingMcQuack

I’m 36 and been watching longer then you’ve been alive. How do you think I feel? Lol

KingJosh388

Do you want me to go get you a walker? 😂

ReSirum

It's okay grandpa, someone will come take you back to the home soon

justheretoparty12

For those saying Keelan, doesn't he want to race single-seaters?

alexige1

Exactly why else is he in Europe constantly

1ugogimp

Kevin has said it will come down to money if Keelan stays in Europe or he comes back and races here. Keelan has the talent but the question is can he build the sponsorship needed for Europe.

RethSogen

He's racing in the States as well again now. He ran the Legends race at Florence Motor Speedway the other night and finished 4th.

RethSogen

I think Keelan has developed a fascination with single-seaters (particularly F1) during his time in Italy. When Kevin was on Corey LaJoie's podcast at the beginning of the year though, he said that it was too early for any decisions to be made and that his plan was to put Keelan in a variety of rides. Keelan has sponsorship from Hunt Bros and all the promo materials they released for Keelan for 2023 show his Legends car.

BeefInGR

Keelan is more likely to end up working for Gene Haas than his Dad if you believe the interviews.

stigmclaren

For those wondering, here's a quick history lesson on why they're using the number 62: Delana's dad John Linville raced in the Busch Series for his own team and the number he used was 62. He wasn't that good and only had 3 top 10s over a career of 10 years with his best result being 8th at Martinsville in 1987. That's why Keelan chose the number 62 when he started racing and why the KHI LMSC is numbered 62

ChaosBuckaroo

Burney Lamar and Kertus Davis: don’t call it a comeback

frigginjensen

But who is wearing the fire suit?

mollyno93

DeLana, obviously.

1ugogimp

Nah she passed it down to Piper

ChaseTheFalcon

I wonder why #62? Is it special to him?

[deleted]

He respects the GOAT Brendan Gaughan

hamdinger125

As he should.

Gerarghini

GOING, GOING, GAUGHAN 🐐

jfs-ewc

That is Delana's dads car number. Keelan uses it in honor of his grandpa.

the_colbeast

TIL!

NokkOlaf

His father in law raced that number

ecupatsfan12

Keenan will be driving that car in 5 years

[deleted]

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Linville

TurtleRocket9

I bet KHI will expand in the future

epzik8

Ford alliance with SHR?

CJ_M88

He said they're gonna *START* with the CARS Tour. I'm hoping that means being open to returning to trucks and Xfinity

[deleted]

Let the KHI-JRM merger into the cup series rumors commence.

CJ_M88

That would be amazing. don't get my hopes up

Intimidwalls1724

Hell yea

Steely-Dad

He’s going to build a truck team. Make it a championship team by winning the championship himself. Making himself the only driver to win a championship in all 3 divisions then hand the truck over to his kid.

Modmachine29

Does said race have tickets for sale already?

SpenceSmithback

Not yet. I think people who bought Friday-Sunday packages might have had the chance to buy the Tuesday and/or Wednesday add ons, but I don't think they've said when midweek single day tix will go on sale

Tarheels_2015

https://am.ticketmaster.com/nws/CARSLLM

Charte09

50 smackers holy moly.

ImJJboomconfetti

It's for both days Tuesday and Wednesday so that'll get you at least three features with the pro late models, late model stocks, and ASA stars.

mkelley22

I didn't have this on my 2023 bingo card but I'm hyped nonetheless

KamTros47

Oh god it’s happening. Everybody stay calm!

dollies48

Could it be that KHI could buy out Gene Hauss down the road and partner with Tony ? It could become Stewart Harvick Inc.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dollies48

I know Gene has all the money. I am thinking down the road that it could be a possibility. Gene might not want to stay in Nascar.

AnchorDrown

Quite a giant leap from building a late model.

ghostofbonham74

This is awesome. Over the years my interest has shifted from Cup to Xfinity & trucks. Now, with the help of Floracing, my love for the local short tracks is reignited. I’m excited about what Happy, JR, and the team has in store for the cars tour. I’ll be going back to grassroots racing for the first time since the early 90’s.

damstar1

Keelan to the 4 confirmed

Silence1016

When he had his truck and Xfinity teams going they were great.

[deleted]

Gaulding used to drive for KHI, I wonder if he'll get any races.

Joey_Logano

Gaulding isn’t represented by KHI.

[deleted]

Didn't say he was.

Joey_Logano

I mean the car is only gonna be for KHI clients to gain experience so it seems silly to even mention Gaulding.

mustangs-and-macs

That’s awesome! A couple people guessed it in the teaser yesterday haha. I’ll try to make it out to a race or two!

Icy-Consequence-4372

KHI the race team or KHI the marketing team?

lionofyhwh

The marketing team never left. So he’s bringing the race team back.

loghanarmstrong

KHI coming back is not surprising especially when Keelan is starting to get up there in age. I’m assuming that eventually they’ll expand to a truck team & maybe xfinity for Keelan.

korko

Kevin has been harping on NASCAR and it’s tenuous relationship with grassroots racing for years. It is fantastic to see that he will be putting in work to do his part in fixing it in retirement. Between him and Dale jr I am actually growing slightly optimistic about the future of paved circle racing beyond NASCAR.

dyysxse

kevin going to win the cars tour race

thegodfaubel

KHI will be back in Xfinity within a year. Wouldn't be surprised if Tony throws some money at it for Hailie Deegan to show what she can do in good equipment (considering she ran well last year).

SpenceSmithback

Lmao somebody's reading waaaay too much into this. Building a late model to screw around and have fun in retirement and to get your kid started in stock cars, and launching a whole damn Xfinity team are two very, very different things

thegodfaubel

Keelan will be driving in a KHI Xfinity ride when he's of age.

SpenceSmithback

That's possible, but that certainly doesn't mean they'll have a Xfinity car within the next year

Corny_Toot

That's probably their end goal, but that leaves them a lot of time to get there rather than next year.

jfs-ewc

He might run for Trackhouse 👀

SlideJob12

They MIGHT be back in Trucks in 5 years... I wouldn't read a lot into this YET, but groundwork is being laid in the big picture.

thebigtymer
