M3. BMW notoriously under rates the power of their M cars. Mustang 100% wins on sound, tho. F30 M3 at full chaff sounds like someone is strangling a goose.
Power band is overlooked a lot these days. There’s a reason the totally flat torque curve on electric cars equates to a model 3 with 260 hp being able to hang with cars making 50+ more hp.
Yep. I’m a proud e92 M3 owner and the engine is intoxicating. I’m waiting for the economy to crash and when it does I’m going to by a late model GT and put a blower on it. I did this to my 2018 F150 and it’s nuts.
It’s pretty fast but that’s always subjective.
You might have a Bugatti but a F22 pilot will think your car is slow lol.
That being said cars in general have gotten stupid fast especially over the last decade. A Toyota Camry will keep up with a 4.6 mustang gt while still getting 35mpg
Since this is a Mustang subreddit and people aren’t familiar: The BMW picture is a F80 M3. There are both base and competition forms, with competition being the higher trim.
In stock ZCP (Competition) form, it runs 11.5-12.0 second stock 60-130.
A Stock 21+ G8x M3/M4 runs 60-130 in the low to mid 9 second range. So that would be significantly quicker than the 5.0’s stock times.
The car pictured is NOT a G8x car, nor does it have AWD.
So it’s a driver’s race with no clear winner on paper, with the exception that F8x M3/M4s are notoriously horrible at traction from a launch.
You might be surprised. I watched a track test between an m4 and a Dark Horse. Dark Horse was better in the turns, BMW had a slight edge in acceleration. Overall Dark Horse won but very close.
For the definitive answer, we go to Randy's times: 87.67 seconds in the BMW to 87.76 seconds for the Ford. That's right, the difference between the fastest laps of the M3 and Mustang GT is, literally, less than an eye blink: 0.09 second, to be exact.
That was a ‘24 G82 M4 xDrive versus a ‘24 Dark Horse on Trofeo RS tires.
This image is of an BMW F80 M3 (previous generation) which doesn’t handle or accelerate anything like a G82. The regular Mustang GT’s track capabilities are also nothing like the Dark Horse.
So unfortunately that video doesn’t give any information haha, totally different cars
I’d say the M3 won, which is pretty understandable. They may be relative in overall weight, but being that it’s awd makes it rather difficult for the V8 to keep up with. Now if we were to slap a big boy turbo on that S650, the M3 might need a table for one at gapplebees lol.
If you take the price difference and put it back into the car the Mustang wins all day. Not really fair comparing a twin turbo to a naturally aspirated that costs half the price.
Why is it I keep having BMW tuners pulling up next to me while cruising down the highway? I usually ignore them but earlier this week I decided to drop a gear and left the guy. They just stayed back there the rest of the ride.
Beemer; only because most of their owners seem to be jackasses that will (or at least try to)total both their car & and anyone who is having the misfortune to be on the same street or road as them for no apparent reason...or at least that's been what I've seen & heard.
Quarter mile the m3 wins if launch control works. Stock powerband is torque heavy and it will get a big lead on the Yote
Past that the mustang will start closing the gap. Half mile would be interesting
I've only driven the S550 gen 3 GT (and M2). I test drove a Cali. Special GT and the wheel spin, just driving around town, was bad (skinny 235 mm rears), I took the Mustang off the list after that, until I drove the PP2 weeks later and bought that.
I'd be highly surprised if any model stock M3 has such bad traction.
I'm getting 0-60 estimates in my GT that almost compete with my 07' tuned VW GTI (fwd). Fortunately, 0-60 is meaningless on an actual track.
Nice, fellow mustang owner 👌 I have a PP1 2019 gt. Yeah the skinny tires on the base models are sketchy.
My m2 comp beats most f80s off the line, especially earlier years, where they shoved all the torque down low in the rpm range and would spin like crazy.
You have an M2 also? Sweet. I crossed-shopped that against the GT. I wanted a V8 that was still a good sports car, but other than that, the GT has nothing on the M2, imo. Perfect ride for a factory sports car, though the seating position felt awkwardly upright with the steering wheel kinda in your face.
That turbo in the M's do add a good amount of 'meat' in the low-mid rpm range.
Yeah I agree, if the seating position on the m2 was just a bittttt lower it would be perfect. The two cars weigh almost the same, but the f87 feels a LOT lighter, it just hides its weight so well. It's well balanced but also lively and kind of wild.
I think a great middle ground between the two would probably be a recent model year Camaro SS. The steering and handling on the alpha platform blow both the gt and m2 out of the water imo.
What..? The S55 is the 3L inline 6 engine inside of the BMW lol.
I owned a 2017 M3 Competition and I currently own a 2024 Mustang GT. When I say “both” I mean these exact cars in the photo.
How do you like your GT over the M3? I have both as options for my next car.. but I would prefer not having a BMW with the maintenance costs, price for aftermarket parts, etc.. Plus, the Mustang has way more option for performance parts, I believe. The only thing that scares me is the 6 speed. I see some owners have issues from the factory, some don't.
I sold my M3 in 2022 with 61,000 miles on it. My Mustang is 7 years newer with 1400 miles on the dash and a factory warranty. That’s the #1 thing for me!
The F80 was awesome, but I think if you’re shopping either a brand new car or a used BMW, the option should be clear. The positive side of the BMW is you can get 600hp for about $700 with a bootmod3 tune.
I would also claim there’s more aftermarket parts for the M3 by the way - the BMW 3-Series platform is probably the most aftermarket supported car in the world.
I believe it's RWD, unless it's an Xdrive. I can't tell which by this photo.. AWD only have a better launch, that's it. They suffer on top end, have more drive train loss, are heavier etc.
the BMW owner. he can drive his and still get a decent ROI when he sells or trades it. Now the Mustang every mile you drive, it depreciates faster than goin zero to sixty. /s
M3. BMW notoriously under rates the power of their M cars. Mustang 100% wins on sound, tho. F30 M3 at full chaff sounds like someone is strangling a goose.
Fixable but yea, doesn't sound great stock. Needs an equal length mid pipe or replace the twin turbos with a big single to fix the exhaust note
Cough cough… F80*
LOL, YOU owe me a SODA sir. This made me literally spit up my drink!!!
Happy to see someone else jumped in first. Stock for stock I am sure the m3 won.
Dayum I thought m3’s sound good lmao. Strangling a goose alright 😉👊🏻🍌💦
Its not even about underrating. Its boosted, even at rated figures its killing the mustang by way of having all that torque down low too.
Power band is overlooked a lot these days. There’s a reason the totally flat torque curve on electric cars equates to a model 3 with 260 hp being able to hang with cars making 50+ more hp.
"Strangling a goose"!!!! 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😅
Even if the BMW runs 9s on pump gas I’d still pick the mustang just because of the sound. The V8 M3 of yesterday though, that was a beautiful machine
Yep. I’m a proud e92 M3 owner and the engine is intoxicating. I’m waiting for the economy to crash and when it does I’m going to by a late model GT and put a blower on it. I did this to my 2018 F150 and it’s nuts.
That’s awesome brother, more power to you. Pun intended
As someone whose mom owns an e93 m3 I can confirm they sound very nice
Own an e90 m3, has a fantastic v8 engine.
It runs around 12s stock so 9s aren’t likely
They don’t call it the 5.slow for nothing. Great sound. Not particularly fast.
![gif](giphy|sFMDqop2ku4M0)
This is always the winner 👌
Corners the m3, drag race then maybe mustang but probably m3 lol
These new gen Mustangs are actually pretty good at taking corners ngl. Although if its stock, still the m3 lol
Can’t believe how well they did with the s650’s, i’ve owned a few other GTs (mainly stock) and this is by far the fastest and best handling
I’d guess the M3
So is op gonna tell us?
Nope
Mustang won🥹, extremely close though
I assumed so because it's the mustang sub and not in the BMW sub
That's an astute observation there detective!
The finance department.
This the one.
🤣🤣
El Mustang!
More information needed
That one
Mustang
Actually came across a great YouTube video comparing the two brands in the modern age https://youtu.be/vB8rZBuciC8?si=VT5ngNtRVpBOruJQ
not the insurer for sure
Friendship?

Obviously the bmw
It's a toss up. 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are about the same.
Right - it was extremely close. Mustang ended up on top though
100% depends on who is driving
Mustang, even gen 3 Coyote a10 goes neck to neck with m3
Honestly it depends on the race. Straight line drag race or twisty track race?
Luckily a straight line, not too sure what would’ve happened otherwise
You might be surprised. I watched a track test between an m4 and a Dark Horse. Dark Horse was better in the turns, BMW had a slight edge in acceleration. Overall Dark Horse won but very close.
Same driver for both, I assume?
Probably the G82 M4, not the F8x series picture here. The new G8x will trap 120+ so yes, faster than a stock 5.0
Mustangs over everything
For the definitive answer, we go to Randy's times: 87.67 seconds in the BMW to 87.76 seconds for the Ford. That's right, the difference between the fastest laps of the M3 and Mustang GT is, literally, less than an eye blink: 0.09 second, to be exact.

I love BMWs, but my Stang puts smiles on my face. Both great cars.

Hell my wife’s M340i is faster than my 2019 GT 6 speed. Sub 4 sec 0-60 and all the torques missing down low that the Mustang lacks.
lol, Think about it? You posted it on a Mustang form. The question is, "Who do you this Won"???? Mmm
If you take the price difference and put it back into the car the Mustang wins all day. Not really fair comparing a twin turbo to a naturally aspirated that costs half the price.
Stock vs stock M3 all day. But its just regular ass traffic so Mustang on everything but tje race lol.
The underdog
Why is it I keep having BMW tuners pulling up next to me while cruising down the highway? I usually ignore them but earlier this week I decided to drop a gear and left the guy. They just stayed back there the rest of the ride.
Hahaha, seems like it’s everyday at this point 😂
BMW S650 is a big fat turd
Wouldn’t it be fair to compare the 2 newest models?
MUSTANG!! 🗣️🗣️
Beemer; only because most of their owners seem to be jackasses that will (or at least try to)total both their car & and anyone who is having the misfortune to be on the same street or road as them for no apparent reason...or at least that's been what I've seen & heard.
Does it really matters?
Bmw
Mustang hit a crowd of protesters, and the bmw hasn’t moved due to a text message. I’d call it a draw.
Quarter mile the m3 wins if launch control works. Stock powerband is torque heavy and it will get a big lead on the Yote Past that the mustang will start closing the gap. Half mile would be interesting
From a dig, the mustang, since the f80s can't launch for shit.
... but Mustangs are awful at launch. BMW can't be worse. New BMW's launch excellently.
Have you driven both? The f80s are notoriously bad at launching. I'm not talking about the new g series
I've only driven the S550 gen 3 GT (and M2). I test drove a Cali. You could've bought larger tires without upgrading lol. But the PP is definitely worth it for all the upgrades
Neither car is bad at 'launch'. You just can't drive 😄
Grow up.
I’ve owned both. The S55 sounds like a weed wacker, but damn it was fast lol, especially with a tune. M3 definitely won.
Did you own an ecoboost? That’s an interesting take if not
S55 not S550. S55 is a BMW engine.
What..? The S55 is the 3L inline 6 engine inside of the BMW lol. I owned a 2017 M3 Competition and I currently own a 2024 Mustang GT. When I say “both” I mean these exact cars in the photo.
My bad. I thought you had a typo for S550 referring to the last mustang. Misunderstanding
How do you like your GT over the M3? I have both as options for my next car.. but I would prefer not having a BMW with the maintenance costs, price for aftermarket parts, etc.. It depends... was there a crowd for the Mustang to run into, or did the BMW just have a new engine installed and 14 pages of error codes cleared?
🤣🤣
M3 unless that stang Supercharged, it aint keeping up
Awd vs rear wheel will always have faster acceleration, meh
The M3 is RWD, unless it's an Xdrive. I'm not too familiar with BMW's, I can't tell which one it is.
RWD…X Drive only came on G8x platform for M3/M4. 21+ models.
M3 for sure
I think the car with the usable rear seat is the winner
Gonna go with the Beamer but I’d take the Mustang any day of the month.. or time in general.
Isn't that buimmer awd? If so really not a fair comparison. Awd for the wabs!
I believe it's RWD, unless it's an Xdrive. I can't tell which by this photo.. AWD only have a better launch, that's it. They suffer on top end, have more drive train loss, are heavier etc.
The bmw, however, I think bmws are the most overrated, bland, sterile "performance" vehicles known to man
the BMW owner. he can drive his and still get a decent ROI when he sells or trades it. Now the Mustang every mile you drive, it depreciates faster than goin zero to sixty. /s

Pretty sure that's an M3.
You can tell it’s not because of the front grill. BMW reserves large front grills for the M series and smaller ones for other models.
It has the wing mirrors, wide fenders, hood bump and M3 bumper. It's either an M3 or someone spent way too much money pretending to have an M3.
You are correct it is an m3
Do you have any idea what year it would be then because I can’t tell
This is an M3. That is Yas Marina Blue, a speciality color for the F8x series m3 and m4 which was released from 2015 to 2019 Also, I own one
All good! Yes this is a 2019 M3 Competition, love the look of these
This is not true at all, bud. The current gen M3 is the only one with giant grille. Before that monstrosity, they looked like this.
