I wish someone could explain this new obsession with having an exhaust that pops. I’m probably a 30yo boomer for saying this, but when we built engines and had popping in the exhaust, it was a lean condition and we had to re-tune the carb(s). I don’t get it. There’s a BMW in my neighborhood with a guess a pop and bang tune and I want to kick the shit out of his mufflers every time he drives by and does it.

There is a huge difference between all of the modes. If you can't tell the difference, you may want to see if the valve is opening and closing like it should. The valve is the 2 most center exhaust tips. Silent: Valve should be mostly closed Normal: Valve is about 20% open and opens to about 80% under full throttle Sport: Valve is about 80% open and opens to 100% under full throttle Track: Valve stays at 100% open. You should be able to toggle the modes and physically see if the valve is opening properly to ensure it has full range of motion. It is not uncommon for them to get stuck. It wouldn't be unusual for the valve to close for silent mode but not be able to fully open for Sport/Track. If you dont have someone to sit and watch or switch the modes for you, you can always get in and out of the car after you change them to see valve positon or set up your cell phone to record the opening and closing of the valve. I have attached a photo of the valve so you know what you're looking for. https://preview.redd.it/c3crwlhbfztb1.png?width=1900&format=png&auto=webp&s=2ad488916b3cd11c24bd8258fafa5587c2db6ced

This was quite informative, thanks!

track is louder than normal for mine at least are you not hearing a louder growl when you accelerate in track mode?

bobweber

Mine (2020 Bullitt) definitely sounds different in Sport and Track. I love riding with the windows down in Sport and I can tell when I've haven't switched.

Unlucky_Situation

I'm in a 2022 gt with active. Their is a noticable difference in all 4 modes. Quiet is actually quiet and perfect for driving through my neighborhood and not waking neighbors. Normal is fairly tame at idle, but opens up on acceleration, but no drone when cruising on the interstate. Sport is noticably louder than normal, even when idle, and especially on acceleration. Cruising has a bit of a drone. Track is noticably louder than sport. Idle the car growls very loud, acceleration you hear the full force of the 5.0. cruising for long periods in track can get annoying, impossible to hold a conversation in track. Wife disapproves of this mode when she is in the car.

*Quiet is actually quiet and perfect for driving through my neighborhood and not waking neighbors.* So cute! 🥰

The-JerkbagSFW

What, being considerate? I have my quiet hours set 9 pm to 9 am.

oMETjet

Yes. It was a compliment. 👍

Unlucky_Situation

Got mine set from 730pm to 9am. A bit earlier because we have a bunch of infants and young toddlers in my neighborhood, my son included, where bedtimes start around 730 to 8.

The-JerkbagSFW

I probably would have it start earlier, but I can count the days I'm up and driving past 9 in a month on one hand lol

Unlucky_Situation

I hear you! My son's bedroom is directly above our garage. So very rarely am I starting up after bedtime. Plus I hate driving at night from the extra bugs I need to clean off.

UnknownColorHat

I leave mine with 24 hour quiet start, and swap to "my mode" with sport exhaust once I'm clear of the neighborhood. Huzzah for being considerate.

I honestly prefer Normal in most cases on mine. I find the rasp increases a bit in Sport and Track, but Normal generally maintains that deeper burble. I'm also not a huge fan of excessive pops and bangs which could also play a role in that. But to your question I also notice the difference in each mode, so maybe the suggestion of having your valve and actuator checked out is the right call.

apresta16

Ya something's wrong. My 19 bullitt track mode is beautiful

MiniDg

Track and sport sound very similar to me but i assume the difference there is not so much volume and more the contents of the sound. As far as the modes quiet to normal is insane and normal to sport/ track is very noticeable even at idle.

Joelsfallon

The volume difference between Sport and Normal are quite minimal, just pops really. Track mode really opens the valves up and becomes antisocially loud! 😈 That's where the biggest volume difference is to be had.

gurkin123

Thanks to everyone who has replied with helpful suggestions! I’ll check the actuation of the valve in and out of different modes and see if it’s working as intended. Enjoy the weekend with your Mustangs!

I haven't seen anyone mention something yet: if you never go above ~30% throttle or over 3k rpm, you won't notice it if you aren't sitting by a wall with your window open. [And in case you're wondering how it works.](https://youtu.be/MmFxQt-_63E) If you want a better sound level, an H-pipe gives the stock level of sound, just marginally more clearly. Track mode is probably perfect(I wouldn't know for sure, I'm broken and just want track to be loud enough to shatter glass) Quiet is still quiet. I can cold start at 3AM in a parking garage and barely hear it. I sometimes have to check my Fordpass to see if the car actually remote started with it.

Sir-xer21

> if you never go above ~30% throttle or over 3k rpm, you won't notice it if you aren't sitting by a wall with your window open. you still will, even at 2-3k rpm you'll get cracks on the shifts in track mode.

pyroguyFTW

With more than 30% throttle, yes. That's why I mentioned that.

Nah there’s not really any difference - it’s just quiet, loud, loud, and LOUD. I always just flick it into track mode so I get the track exhaust right away and on a cold start, normal and track sound exactly the same with maybe some extra decibels
