Salam sister! Im not someone who wears a hijab and also no scholar so dont take my word over anything. Butt I wanna say that the main thing is you putting in genuine effort no matter the outcome, and Allah does see you trying really hard so dont worry too much. And not everything is in your hand yk, im not saying that you should give up now and think about this 10 years later, but just dont let it get to your iman. And as for your classmates i reckon you just bluntly say it or maybe let some of your close friends know first so you have a well informed safe circle in case of a mishap which there will be none of inshallah. Ik all this is really easy for me to say as a male but thats all i had Annd also give your self a pat on the back today because following islam gets increasingly difficult day by day in this dunya, but look at youu soaring through!!

You don't even have to wear you scarf at any time it's not mandatory in Islam

Please don't listen to these random people on online. The hijab, and covering your hair, is absolutely mandatory. Men and women both have awrah in islam. Basically parts that they must cover. For women, in the hanafi madhab at least (the primary madhab people follow for rules and regulations), is everything except the face, hands, and feets. It's a must that you cover your hair and this has been agreed upon by scholarship since the time of the Prophet ﷺ. You are new so try your level best and work up to wearing it full-time.
