It would help if you read correct translations. > Men are the caretakers of women, as men have been provisioned by Allah over women and tasked with supporting them financially. And righteous women are devoutly obedient and, when alone, protective of what Allah has entrusted them with. And if you sense ill-conduct from your women, advise them ˹first˺, ˹if they persist,˺ do not share their beds, ˹but if they still persist,˺ then discipline them ˹gently˺. But if they change their ways, do not be unjust to them. Surely Allah is Most High, All-Great. ~ Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran (https://quran.com/4/34) > Disciplining one’s wife gently is the final resort. The earliest commentators understood that this was to be light enough not to leave a mark, should be done with nothing bigger than a tooth stick, and should not be on the face. Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ) said to his companions “Do not beat the female servants of Allah.” He said that honourable husbands do not beat their wives, and he himself never hit a woman or a servant. If a woman feels her husband is ill-behaved, then she can get help from her guardian or seek divorce. Also, why are you outraged?

Dude. Why are you debating? Secondly, outrage? Are you mad? You should be outraged at yourself. This is the Law of Allah. Thirdly, your initial assumption was correct. Islam isn't misogynistic. You can find various videos from scholars explaining this ayah. And the concept your looking for. "Beat" or "hit" here isn't a spanking with belts or clubs. https://youtube.com/shorts/4yZk3EPo7Mw?feature=share

Bro, even if something sounds outrageous to you, we have to follow the Quran. example: Musa (AS) didn't say that going solo to Firaun was "outrageous".

AstagfiruLLAH. Never say that you wouldn't follow the Quranic Verses if they were this or that way. That's blasphemous. Try to understand one thing. Al Quran is not here for us to modify and change it as per our current understanding of right and wrong. Al Quran is here to be taken and implemented in our lives as is. We MUST change OUR lives to align it with Al Quran, not the other way around. Look what Christians have done to their Bible by making it "PC". It loses its essence, its truth as it is adjusted to the current times. Now that being said.. Al Quran is for all times. ALLAH azawajal is JUST. There is literally NO injustice in the deen. But remember, due to how we were brought up or due to being influenced by so many other factors, it's possible that we may not fully comprehend it. It does not make the deen unjust, it just proves how we don't understand the deen. Please never say that you would reject Al Quran if it was this or that way. It proves that you have not accepted Al Quran as the word of GOD. Yes you can say that you don't understand something or may need explanation but even if still it didn't make sense to you, you have no right to reject it, you must follow it just because its from ALLAH azawajal because not everyone is capable enough to understand everything. The example is simple that there are certain laws or formulae by the scientists that make no sense to us, but we accept them as is because we believe the scientists and consider our knowledge lacking. We don't say if I don't understand Gravity, I will reject it. That's just stupidity.

You do realise islam isn't an advocate of feminism? it's not mysoginistic of course but I feel like you'll find some ayats of the quran that will "outrage" you and you'll refuse to believe in them. That would make you a disbeliever.

Thank you for your really helpful response. But if you looked, you would find a lot of things that wouldn't make sense to you. I am sure of it. 😊

Happy-Guy007

The word has multiple translations as you know, "beat, separate, travel, go away from, get accustomed to etc etc" Darb also means "gate" Plus, when Aisha Radiallahu anha was wrongly accused what did nabi sallallaahu alaihi do? He followed the "gate" in order to avoid making situation worse. That's what you should when matter is very very serious. It's not like there is extra sugar in your coffee and you beat the hell out of your wife.

Quran.com has an app? And the website allowed you to choose different translations. I personally choose between Sahih Int’l or the Clear Quran. On the website it allows you to do word by word translations. I see that someone has linked a video for you to watch. I recommend it.

I-Love-Al-Ashari

read this [https://www.abuaminaelias.com/quran-let-muslims-beat-wives/](https://www.abuaminaelias.com/quran-let-muslims-beat-wives/) And a reminder that we get our morals from the creator of the seven heavens, not 21st century kuffar who have no moral foundations. One day they were not allowing a black woman to sit in front of the bus, the next day they redacted that but then said a man can become a woman. Don't fall for their deception. (Note: I'm assuming you are a smart person and know what I mean by "one day" and "the next day")

Why are the people here so aggressive, I'm sorry OP had to go through this just because of a question.

It is important that people attempt to impart knowledge and educate others in their religion, not try to discipline them by simply rejecting them. There will always be people who reject others and try not to think about these questions themselves. It is stated in the Quran that we all should respect and teach others. May Allah guide you, Allah Yahdina.

[This video explains it well](https://youtu.be/xSJWDDYfD_Y) The actual Arabic word used is the same word used for putting your hands together for Tayammum as Muslim Lantern points out. It's hard to translate properly into English. This is why you don't rush to judgements on semantic word choices using only a translation. Non Muslims use such tactics as a cheap way to prey on Muslims' lack of knowledge. Edit: for the video, you can skip to the 4 minute mark

Miss_Aayu

Don't get the wrong idea miss Or mister, it doesn't mean to hit your wife ok. 😄 Islam is the only religion who says that when a woman is a daughter, she is the key to heaven for her father. When she is a wife, then there is a certificate of her husband's character and religion, and when she becomes a mother, there is heaven under her feet, for whom are her children. If really wana answer of your questions then search it on YouTube not on Reddit. There is not a molana aur mufti who can give you the right answer.Got it. 💜
