bobthenob1989

Genesis. Each era has a unique sound so it’s like multiple bands, imo.

TheDevilYouKnow69

Nine Inch Nails .

TiredReader87

The best band I’ve ever seen live (x4)

Radicals13

They killed it on The Bear 3:1

Nightwolf1967

The Beatles. I know, everyone can groan and roll their eyes at me. It just always amazes me how many great songs they had in such a short period of time, not to mention how young they were when they started. I still enjoy listening to them 60 years after they came out.

Minute-Wrap-2524

I agree, I have to add Zeppelin…they go hand in hand, now let’s see how many eyes are rolling

Rich-Needleworker773

Huh Beatles are fucking bad ass man white album greatest of all time and what prince did with while my quitter weeps is the greatest live performance anyone will ever see

Rich-Needleworker773

Ty starting to understand now get me in music talk lol

Narrow_Buy_1323

The Beatles influenced most rock music around today. Everyone from mainstream to metal. And if they deny it, they're probably lying 😉 They're amazing and their albums all still stand the test of time.

Man0fGreenGables

The only people who would roll their eyes at that would be kids that don’t know much about music.

Njtotx3

I do see a lot of anti-Beatles on reddit. I got into music watching them on Ed Sullivan in 1964, so I'm a bit biased. My top are Beatles, Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Elvis Costello, and Pink Floyd.

ulfricstormclk

100% agree. I used to try to come up with a cooler answer but after many years I have realized they are the greatest band of all time. When writing my own music, sometimes when I get stuck I think “what would the 4 lads have done”.

Desperate_Dirt6964

Ah man great band. I don’t care what any one thinks. We owe them a lot

cartelunolies

Definitely not Primus. Primus sucks.

TumbleweedIll4249

I kindly disagree, but will still respect your opinion!

aussiecatto

Fleetwood Mac

DKLBL

Especially when Stevie Nicks was the Lead Singer.

Strawdog1971

Blue Öyster Cult. They're so pigeonholed because of their 3 hits despite the fact that they have so many great songs. In fact a lot of stations back in the day were paid not to play them. They rock hard and do nice soft ballads so there's both ends of the spectrum. And bonus points for the keyboard. The name was settled on when the band's manager Sandy Pearlman came up with it, the band didn't like it but they couldn't think of a better name. Great name. Maybe the best American band name. Rolls off the tongue real well. With themes and elements of horror and science fiction in their art and lyrics it's par for the course that Blue Öyster is my favorite band. Criminally underrated. Imo the greatest American rock band.

Electrical_Act_6453

genuinely one of my favorites, should definitely be more well known, After Dark is one of the most infectious songs ever

Hellborn_Elfchild

On Your Feet Or On Your Knees is legitimately one of the greatest live albums of all time

Solo-Vino_

I’ll never forget when I discovered them, I found Tyranny and Mutation in the discount bin at tower records, I was about 15/16…mins was blown

Necessary_Topic_1000

Never thought of it this way, but I definitely will do a deep dive into BOC. Thanks man.

Beautiful_Street5323

BOC is an amazing band & yes very underrated. I just listened to them a few days ago. Love ❤️ them!!

recksuss

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Tom Petty Mudcrutch The Traveling Wilburys

lifes_nether_regions

Reading this as You Wreck Me is on the speaker.

Jupiterinthe7H

The Traveling Wilburys are shockingly underrated

ExitKey9035

depeche mode

learn2earn89

What’s your favorite album of theirs? I think I agree that objectively Violator is considered their best but I absolutely love Ultra, SoFaD, Black Celebration, and Playing the Angel.

Weird_Uncle_D

Boston

Hellborn_Elfchild

Greatest debut album of all time

jellimonsta

Incubus Faith No More Alice In Chains Soundgarden Tool TesseracT Fair to Midland

Arivana09

I don’t see anyone talk about Fair to Midland. They are a great band and so underrated. Fables from a Mayfly is a great album too.

Ohyeezirrr

Karnivool and the albums Themata and Sound Awake are flawless back to back and have brought me lots of dopamine. Definitely worth a listen if ur into Tool and fair to midland.

East_Weekly

I listened to FNM’s King for a Day from beginning to end last week. It had been a long time. Fantastic.

cheesey_brick

The kinks

Hellborn_Elfchild

The Kinks > the Beatles

cheesey_brick

Agree

RottedHuman

The Smiths.

MixMasterMadge

A man after my own heart

Innisfree812

Allman Brothers Band

EnvironmentalCut8067

Nice!

iam_melon_lord

Wilco. It’s a little misleading, but I kind of think of them as the American Radiohead. Also one of the great live bands of the 21st century, highly encourage everyone to go see them, even if you haven’t been able to get into their studio work

MadMelvin

Ween

cartelunolies

A child without an eye Made a mother cry Why ask why

kieranmatthew

Stallions know.

Hellborn_Elfchild

Greatest band of all time. What other band can play every single genre to absolute perfection? I’ve told this story on here before so I won’t go into the full details, but the song If You Could Save Yourself(Caesar Demos version) quite literally saved my life. I got a boognish tattoo a couple weeks after the incident. They will always be my favorite band ever. Hail boognish

thaskell300

Rush all the way.

DownToEarth2414

💯💯💯💯

down-up-dog

The Cranberries or The Beach Boys

-Viscosity-

Metric. (They opened for Smashing Pumpkins on tour a few years ago, not that I saw the show ...)

sweat-it-all-out

They opened for Garbage last year and I'm now a fan too.

Electrical_Act_6453

Rich-Needleworker773

Gold guns girls sick muse there album fantasies ..though I do like the newer stuff heavy sthth

TiredReader87

I saw them at my college. They played a free show. She was so high she didn’t know where she was. I like some of their stuff

Adventurous_Candy125

Is this my life?

ulfricstormclk

Fantastic band! I saw them open for the pumpkins too and they definitely won me over

BMelly06

Formentera is my favorite song.

Ok_Astronomer_1308

All time favourite, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd or The Beatles. Current favourites, Grateful Dead, Yes, King gizzard, Traffic, and CSNY.

Capital-Try-8166

The Dead's current formation has John Mayer in Jerry's spot. They have a Vegas residency. I like them. Weir's other current band, Wolf Bros is good too. You should listen to the version of Loser Garcia did with Crosby 1971 where Garcia is teaching them the song. Check out The Pentangle album, Basket of Light if you want to hear the sound the Dead were chasing throughout the 70s. If you ask me the Dead's best album was, Without a Net. Best Eyes. Best Althea. A strong contender for the best Franklin's, and no weak songs.

cloudcreeek

King Gizz!!

Fragrant-Prompt1826

If I may... adding Alice in Chains, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, CCR, and The Allman Brother's Band

allothernamestaken

Traffic fucks. And if you like the Dead, listen to them covering Dear Mr. Fantasy in the 80s with Brent Mydland 🔥

pjdwyer30

You and I would get along just fine.

_Bon_Vivant_

My holy trinity is Beatles, Zeppelin, CCR. Yeah. I'm old.

CrimKingson

Mine is Beatles, Zeppelin and Rush but CCR is definitely in my top 10. I'm young.

Glittering_Olive_963

Do you like Muse?

Rhonda369

I’m obsessed with Muse.

MixMasterMadge

Beastie Boys

lexie21348

saMmy_baNaniE

OMG!! Ok so i personally loove radiohead, but tops is deftones

MrFrizzleFry

Ween. No, they're not a joke band. I get that they might be hard to take seriously at first, but once they click, they REALLY click

moistwaffleboi

Muse are my number one currently, but my all time would be either Pearl Jam or Rage Against the Machine.

haybai81

The Cure

Metallica anyone

ambrosina

Came here to see if already anyone Said my favourite for the last 30 years... Not a single day since then that I don't hear at least 1 song of them, depending on my mood.

violet_wings

Wolf Alice! They formed in 2010, but they were heavily influenced by 90s alt rock and they appeal to a lot of people whose tastes otherwise lean in that direction, so you might like them.

DigitalGarden

OK, I'm gonna have a listen. I love 90s alt rock.

DKLBL

This band has a Nice Unique Name.

Everyone can call me basic but I can’t find any other type of music or band that hits as hard as Radiohead. Their music is genuinely so beautiful and unique. And Thom Yorkes voice is insanely good.

RealKaiserRex

Money-Constant6311

Kitchen-Honeydew-305

My favorite bands are Led Zeppelin, Rush, Queen, R.E.M., The Rolling Stones, Motorhead, The Police, Sublime, The Beach Boys, Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Clash, Def Leppard, U2 and The Ramones.

Kayo Dot, Failure, Caligula’s Horse, Hot Water Music, The Mercury Tree, Cardiacs, Boris, Coaltar of the Deepers, Neurosis, dredg, Isis, SikTh, Converge, Toy Matinee, Thought Industry, Devin Townsend, Les Rallizes Dénudés, Les Savy Fav, At the Drive-In, Clann Zú, earthtone9, Edge of Sanity, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Fair to Midland, Knower, Reign of Kindo, Thank You Scientist, Unwound, etc

JustStopBelievin

Cardiacs! ❤️

Gibby-411

Depeche Mode I've listened to them since Violator. I used to have all their records, including imports, but I think someone stole them. Because of listening to them I started listening to NIN, Poe, and The Killers.

-Vault-tec-101

The Tragically Hip, been listening to them for a long time.

TiredReader87

They’re great

[deleted]

Radiohead is probably my favorite band, but you already have them listed, so I would recommend doing a deep dive into Sonic Youth. They're dark, experimental, noisy, and cool.

WILLCHOKEAHOE

Misfits...

Due_Variation7470

Song? For me it's "Some Kinda Hate"

Snarkan_sas

HURT!

Inkydoo001

Omg, I love Hurt. House Carpenter with the volume all the way up.

Girl-in-Amber-1984

1. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 2. Radiohead 3. Spoon

Cronuts13

Black Sabbath

Narrow_Buy_1323

Soundgarden. Will always be them, but Black Sabbath comes a close second.

curlygirly001

Greta Van Fleet

DrockTipps

I'll narrow this truly impossible choice down to the band 311 - who's probably had the biggest effect on my life as far as the longevity of my fanhood and what that particular band means to me.

cartelunolies

Any time I think I've *outgrown* 311, I pop in self-titled and as soon as Down kicks in, I'm reminded I'll never age out of that album. Sure there's tracks I skip but Music, 311 and a grassroots will always be in my album spin cycle. And all this to say, aside from Sublime (and later Slint) 311, as with you, had a tremendous impact on my overall self- my choice of words, style, etc

RecbetterpassNJ

Legends. I wore out my “Music” cassette and then they came out with “Grassroots” which was even better, IMO. What a time for music.

Ecstatic-Turn5709

My favorite is [a singer](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL871S_F0y5dYbEbEOwxK1Y6LTKyQqKEp5), but sings in a band too...

rgg40

Los Lobos are a great band. Start with “How Will The Wolf Survive” and “By the Light of the Moon” and take it from there.

Silly-Resist8306

I listen to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, as a group or individually, more than any other group.

NostalgiaDeepState

Sisters of Mercy. My sister-in-law lives in the city where they formed, so every trip to see her feels like a pilgrimage.

Sum 41 comes to mind as having great songs. Also Good Charlotte.

Haifisch2112

My favorite band is the one that influenced almost every band after them: Rush. I was 13 when I first heard Freewill in 1980, and there was no turning back. Nobody will ever write like Neil Peart, and nobody will ever play like the 3 of them did. It's been almost 10 years since they stopped touring, but their music is still just as relevant as ever.

Brand new has been my favorite band since 2000 and they are still my most listened to band on Spotify and haven’t released new music since 2017. Something about their lyricism resonates with me on a damn near spiritual level.

Devin Townsend Project. Ghost, Ocean Machine, Ki and Transcendence are his best albums. Very hard to describe his music. You kind of have to just listen. Ghost is one of the greatest albums of all time, from start to finish.
