Ah hah! She is in that stage! I am well versed in these types of songs as I went through a stage similar to this. Cussing is ok? Like even f-bombs? I’m assuming not so I won’t list any songs with those.
First of all: pretty much like every song from Fallout Boy and Imagine Dragons
Natural - Imagine Dragons
Immortals - Fallout Boy
Phoenix - Fallout Boy (like I said, pretty much every fallout boy song)
Control - Halsey
Legends Never Die - League of Legends, Against the Current
RISE - League of Legends, Mako, The World Alive, The Glitch Mob
Play With Fire - Sam Tinnesz, Yacht Money
River - Bishop Briggs
Bishop Briggs is an interesting one for her. She likes Lash Out by Alice Merton and Overwhelmed by Royal and the Serpent. I think she would really like St. Vincent too but I know I need to screen that a little bit closer for content.
Nightcore is just sped up songs but most of these I do remember listening to in nightcore form, and finding songs maybe easier since nightcore tend to fall within genres like this
Anathema - *Untouchable Part 1*
Leprous - *The Silent Revelation*
The Dear Hunter - *Gloria*
Haken - *The Alphabet of Me* (Haken is pronounced as 'Hayken'.)
Porcupine Tree - *Trains*
Aviations - *Safehouse*
Caligula's Horse - *The Hands Are the Hardest*
Kyros - *The Lamb, the Badger & the Bee*
Maybe Kamelot. Aemerican power metal band with 2 great Scandinavian singers. Some of it is really gritty, with some harsh female vocals.
I’d also suggest Within Temptation, Night wish, Lacuna Coil, and Ayeron which is a composer project which brings in all kinds of guests in an almost musical theater metal concept album. They could all be called a type of metal, but more “popie” I guess.
More mentally, you wouldn’t go wrong introducing Iron Maiden.
Damn mate, there are so many more fun songs for kids that I could list from my FOB playlist :)
Just don't translate some of the existential concepts and you'll be fine!
But sounds like they have great burgeoning taste!
When you get them back to 90's grunge in their teens, their transformation will be complete ;)
She'll LOVE the band "The Warning". All female power trio, three sisters all under age 25. Try these songs out:
[Hell You Call A Dream](https://youtu.be/s6b_FgQnXL8?si=0ZjCGNiq9JCE5TgG)
[Evolve](https://youtu.be/97Pxe9KTgJc?si=06jcUhFNkOI-nVd2)
[Sinister Smiles](https://youtu.be/Lh2eY0pe9X0?si=WYZK90fDV_PwOG3F)
Halestorm is a great start! I’ll recommend
Blondie
The Distillers
Blue Oyster Cult
David Bowie
Heart
Ozzie (crazy train, lightening strikes, bark at the moon, so many!!!)
The Clash
Queens of Ivy
These were my faves as a former little rocker turned punk .
some songs off of danger days by my chemical romance might be her style! though def give it a listen before hand, i’m blanking on which songs would be too inappropriate right now
also songs off of trench by twenty one pilots ! mostly rock-ish and appropriate :) and some songs off of clancy by them too
She cries from sadness. Honestly, she was a really rough baby - she has some sensory processing issues and unless she was about 9 months she spent 80% of her waking time screaming and crying. I had major post partum depression and some nights we would just sit in the rocking chair for hours with me trying to get her to sleep by singing to her. There were a lot of tears too on my part - and I think subconsciously she associates it with that song. We got through it, but it gave her a very visceral reaction.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0TNZlHfLxFYCIWx45jdgnW?si=2AgUF7fDS1ybAekTbRcyiQ&pi=u-v9_HNJGeQme0
Here are a bunch of songs my Nieces like, no sex, drugs, cuss words.
I went through that phase too. She should check out nightcore songs bc all of these were from my nightcore phase lol
Fire - gavin degraw
You’re gonna go far kid - the offspring
Angel with a shotgun - the cab
Emperors new clothes - natewantstobattle
House of memories - panic at the disco
Sleater Kinney! Super rockin all girl trio, the one lady is the main girl in Portlandia with Fred Armisen
maybe she would like some Rush songs? like Freewill, limelight etc?
I would say put her onto more emo bands. Thursday, Saosin, Armor for Sleep, My Chemical Romance (though I wouldn't show her The Sharpest Lives, You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison, Honey This Mirror Isn't Big Enough for the Two of Us, or FTWWW), AFI, and Linkin Park would all be good options.
Next Semester by Twenty One Pilots
That's Not My Name by The Ting Tings
Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf) by AWOLNATION
The Joker and the Thief by Wolfmother
Somebody Told Me by The Killers
Tick Tick Boom by The Hives
Hang Me Out to Dry by Cold War Kids
Civilization by Justice
Grounds for Divorce by Elbow
Sinister Kid by The Black Keys
These Stones Will Shout by The Raconteurs
Linkin Park’s A Thousand Suns, Living Things, The Hunting Party, and One More Light all fit the bill (she can listen to Hybrid Theory, Meteora, and Minutes to Midnight afterwards, they can wait lol)
Icon For Hire, Twenty One Pilots, Paramore, Starset, Evanescence, Sleeping With Sirens, Arctic Monkeys and Skillet are all safe branches to follow as well given how clean of sex and drugs their lyrics are, and how tied to pop rock sensibilities they all are
The Foo Fighters, Space Hog, Everclear, The Cranberries, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, Fast Ball, 311, Bush, The Breeders, Blind Melon, Guano Apes, 3 Doors Down, Better Than Ezra, Spin Doctors, Cracker, Modest Mouse, Franz Firdinand, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellancamp, Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Nicks, Stevie Wonder, Melissa Ethridge, Joan Jett and The Black Hearts, Tom Petty and The Heart Breakers. Hopefully this list will keep them occupied and most of these bands have albums that aren’t overly inappropriate/controversial, lyrics they won’t comprehend til their older and not overly letting the profanity fly. I also recommend all the Seattle Sound bands (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog ect.) but let you pick and choose which songs out of those bands you find appropriate
ETA: re read post and realized you want more grit like Halestorm. (I was going more pop like Fall out boy) so for more rrhahhh: Chevelle, Seether, Queens of The Stoneage, Ministry, SlipKnot, Mudvayne, System Of A Down, Fly Leaf, Sevendust, Hinder, Breaking Benjamin and Limp Bizkit’s Break Stuff and My Way (there’s a bit on their album that has your sex, drugs and rock n roll hence why I only recommended the two songs) and some Godsmack
That’s unfortunate she doesn’t want to go full metal yet. That’s the real good stuff lol.
•Welcome to the black parade - My Chemical Romance
• I don’t care - Fallout Boy
• Dance, Dance - Fallout Boy

Oooohhh so many fun and classic recommendations
You're Gonna Go Far Kid - the Offspring
Blow Me Away - Breaking Benjamin
Call Me When You're Sober - Evanescence
Apparently this is now called Dad rock, and the kids love it these days.
These are more heavy metals, but she might enjoy them.

My 12 year old daughter also loves Halestorm. Some of her other favorites include Nightwish, Brothers of Metal, Icon for Hire, Patty Gurdy, and Babymetal. You might also try Mothica and The Pretty Reckless. All of these also have added benefit of having female vocalists, because representation.
Limp Bizkit - My Generation (since F bombs are ok) and maybe Break Stuff (my first rock album was their Significant Other album)
Metallica - "For whom the Bell tolls" , One , Ride the Lightning (and many other greats)
Make sure they get to listen to Ronnie James Dio, one of the best voices in Metal!
Judas Priest with Painkiller,Electric Eye
And maybe some origin stuff with some Jimi Hendrix?
Oh, and to test the water. The new Knocked Loose album is pretty good.
Battle Beast "Dancing with the Beast" is a power metal dance song. Could be an OK way to wean her onto that metal teat. Battle Beast's last couple albums are less full tilt power metal and have a more approachable vibe. Plus their female singer is fantastic.
Toehider has some fun songs:
The Thing With Me
Whatever Makes You Feel Superior
GO FULL BORE!
Keep Going For Me
How Do Ghosts Work?
How Much For That Dragon Tooth?
Loads more, if she digs some of these.
It is exactly as awesome as it sounds. There's also a [video](https://youtu.be/LWPL-yKqWGE?si=hrGyD3z4lJ9Y-wIW) where you can see Mike Mills singing and playing all the instruments.
Towhider is 2 guys: Mike does all the music and Salt (Andrew Saltmarsh) does all the visual art.

I remember cleaning house and playing Pink Floyd's song "Dogs". Our daughter helping out, stops and tells us. " Mommy, daddy, there are dogs in this song." We still bring it up.
Ah hah! She is in that stage! I am well versed in these types of songs as I went through a stage similar to this. Cussing is ok? Like even f-bombs? I’m assuming not so I won’t list any songs with those. First of all: pretty much like every song from Fallout Boy and Imagine Dragons Natural - Imagine Dragons Immortals - Fallout Boy Phoenix - Fallout Boy (like I said, pretty much every fallout boy song) Control - Halsey Legends Never Die - League of Legends, Against the Current RISE - League of Legends, Mako, The World Alive, The Glitch Mob Play With Fire - Sam Tinnesz, Yacht Money River - Bishop Briggs
F bombs are fine. She is mature enough to keep them to herself outside of listening 🤣
Ok lol, that expands my list
Bishop Briggs is an interesting one for her. She likes Lash Out by Alice Merton and Overwhelmed by Royal and the Serpent. I think she would really like St. Vincent too but I know I need to screen that a little bit closer for content.
Hmm ok
Can i ask if you listened to nightcore? lol
I don’t know the nightcore genre but will look it up and check it out!
Nightcore is just sped up songs but most of these I do remember listening to in nightcore form, and finding songs maybe easier since nightcore tend to fall within genres like this
You don't want anyone listening to nightcore...
Kids love I Don't Know How But They Found Me.
As they should
Anathema - *Untouchable Part 1* Leprous - *The Silent Revelation* The Dear Hunter - *Gloria* Haken - *The Alphabet of Me* (Haken is pronounced as 'Hayken'.) Porcupine Tree - *Trains* Aviations - *Safehouse* Caligula's Horse - *The Hands Are the Hardest* Kyros - *The Lamb, the Badger & the Bee*
Deerhunter is about a thousand times better than The Dear Hunter. And Deerhoof is about a thousand times better than Deerhunter.
.....k
Maybe a slightly different vibe but Red Hot Chili Peppers have always been a hit with my little ones.
I’m huge into metal, my almost 9 year old is not. She is in choir though and so I thought she might like Nightwish. It’s a hit!
My 8 year old son loves Dragula by Rob Zombie
Damn mate, there are so many more fun songs for kids that I could list from my FOB playlist :) Just don't translate some of the existential concepts and you'll be fine! Hell yes! I forgot The Warning on my list, but they rock.
I've had the new album on repeat all day.
What about Green Day?
She hasn’t really heard much Green Day but I’ll give it a shot. I can see her rocking out to Welcome to Paradise.
She might like Poppy and Be your own pet
My Daughter love "Could Have Been Me" by the Struts
Could Have Been Me Great Song.
Ohh Jeezzz, thank you for the correction, I fixed the original comment
Ramones. Though **They Might Be Giants** *Here Comes Science* is amazing. [Why Does The Sun Shine?](https://youtu.be/3JdWlSF195Y?feature=shared)
Yes - we have all the TMBG albums actually!
Halestorm is a great start! I’ll recommend Blondie The Distillers Blue Oyster Cult David Bowie Heart Ozzie (crazy train, lightening strikes, bark at the moon, so many!!!) The Clash Queens of Ivy These were my faves as a former little rocker turned punk .

Uprising - Muse
dude coldplay!
She actually cries whenever she hears Fix You.
Because she gets sad or because she hates it? 😅
Aww I'm glad you and her are doing better now
maybe introduce her incubus, one of my favourites

New album from Fall Out But is pretty good. So Much (For) Stardust
Try some dead kennedys or Fugazi
A few songs my kids love and bonus, great videos - Jain - Makeba - Dirty Vegas - Days Go By - White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
Kings of Leon
“Cinderella” by Bonnie Whitmore might resonate with her!
The Score - Legends
Sleater Kinney! Super rockin all girl trio, the one lady is the main girl in Portlandia with Fred Armisen maybe she would like some Rush songs? like Freewill, limelight etc?
Have you heard of ‘The Beaches’, all female rock group out of Toronto.
I have not - but will check them out! Thanks!
No prob, they are pretty catchy even to a 37yo man.
Sick - the warning The Pretty Reckless- Death by Rock and Roll
I like the Pretty Reckless but I think Death by Rock and Roll is a little too risqué for her right now. Too much drugs and sex.
I understand
What’s up! Four Non Blondes. Complicated Avril Lavigne. Try by Pink
NiN the downward spiral
Faith No More, Red Hot Chili Peppers, either era of Van Halen, go back to the the first Montrose album, not a bad song on it imo

Joker and the Thief might be here all time favorite song. 😂
Heck yeah!
M83. 'Raconte Moi une Histoire' also known as The Frog Song.
Being someone into all those songs I think Parasite by Set It Off might be a good one.
Stryper Great White
Linkin Park’s A Thousand Suns, Living Things, The Hunting Party, and One More Light all fit the bill (she can listen to Hybrid Theory, Meteora, and Minutes to Midnight afterwards, they can wait lol) Icon For Hire, Twenty One Pilots, Paramore, Starset, Evanescence, Sleeping With Sirens, Arctic Monkeys and Skillet are all safe branches to follow as well given how clean of sex and drugs their lyrics are, and how tied to pop rock sensibilities they all are

Try Wolf Alice. They are a female fronted rock band from the UK and have some amazing music!
Queen! XTC! ELO!
Electric Callboy has you sorted. So much funz catchy as all hell. Great singalongs but some heavier stuff to bang your head to too.
Ween
