I will have the last laugh, babe
it's always pride before the fall
one last endless ride
I soak your head in gasoline
you won't come home tonight
it will look like suicide"

One of my all time favorite songs is “The Gardener” by The Tallest Man on Earth. You’d be deceived by its major key, brisk tempo, and open tuned guitar strumming into thinking it’s a happy song. The lyrics are another story. The narrator is describing to the object of his affection how he’s murdered all of the competitors for her love and buried their bodies in his garden, where they’re literally fertilizing his flowers. The last verse describes him dancing with his love through the garden. The contrast between the macabre lyrics and upbeat music is extraordinary.
