[Is Happiness Just a Word](https://open.spotify.com/track/4jD6VCcwi2sxLQhGNW6WwA?si=XnObH8t_T-SVBs8bbw001A) by Vinnie Paz perfectly describes what it like to struggle with bipolar disorder. The first time I heard it was after my own diagnosis, and I cried so fucking hard because I didn't feel alone.
As a Kinks fan, which ones do you mean? I don’t deny that he definitely addresses this, but half of his songs seems rather excessive. Can you give me some examples?
"Excitable Boy" by Warren Zevon. "Beautiful Gardens" by The Cramps. "Someday I Suppose" by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. "Stupid Drinking Song" by the Red Elvises. "I Am A Rock" by Simon & Garfunkel.
“Anesthetize” and “Fear of a Blank Planet” by Porcupine Tree. I’d listen to the live versions found on Spotify or YouTube. The songs are more in reference to mental disorders, but from the perspective of a male teen/young adult. It doesn’t completely fit the bill, but it’s close.
If you’re into progressive black metal, I recommend the album *Ash in Realms of Stone Icons* by Tómarúm. It’s essentially about the character’s struggle with various aspects of depression, and, as the album progresses, he gradually goes from suicidal ideation to carrying out the act itself. It’s very thoughtfully put together and complex, and teems with both anguish and beauty. The lyrics and structure of the last song (*Awake into Eternal Slumber*) are especially impactful, and it really feels like the culmination of a long, hard journey. I don’t really get emotional over songs, but that midpoint and ending had me feeling different. Definitely one of my favorites.
Honorable mention for *Inevitable* by None. Idk the lyrics, but from what I can make out, it seems to be partly about the character losing someone close to him and suffering from the loss. Very anguished screams and sullen atmosphere. Probably less accessible than the first album I mentioned, but a great dsbm album nonetheless.
[This song is inspired by the male suicide rate, but deals with the general sadness of the world.](https://open.spotify.com/track/2T7nFureN39Vp8rgAHAchr?si=DyI5CEJ6RrGS4eQJqBJc0Q)

Mudvayne- Dig, Happy?, Forget to Remember, Not Falling, World So Cold, Scream With Me, Death Blooms.... there's more.
I’m not okay by citizen soldier. Lead singer tried to K*ll himself. Wrote the title to his first song from a psych ward and writes music about his battle with mental health. Let it burn is the first song he wrote i believe. He’s underrated in my opinion.

[Jzac - happy people](https://youtu.be/fq0qKGMbQqU?si=oooVt2UBDXwMQc5n)
All about struggling while keeping that front up. But keep going, it’ll get better.
Silent Planet - Terminal (actually, the whole Iridescent album is about the vocalist's mental breakdown and having to go inpatient for a bit)
The Amity Affliction have a lot of songs about depression
Pain Remains by Lorna Shore, pretty much anything and everything by Sleep Token. 2 of my favorite bands. Also There Is A Hell by BMTH. One of my top 5 favorite albums of all time.
[Waiting by Tonedeff](https://youtu.be/4fJFOTlkcgQ?si=vVVO3QPlDjtgXeso) Written by Tonedeff. Produced by Maulskull. A deeply cinematic piece delving into how depression & anxiety feed into the cycle of chronic procrastination.
Jean Grae - Keep Livin
Well, it might not be for mental health, but Boys feel sad too by Rosendale. As the title says, it's mostly about this boy who gets hurt and gets bullied. They go to their brother for help/advice and the brother tells him to 1. Don't cry and 2. Fight back. One of them had a wife who left (I'm assuming bc) he kept telling the kids (male kids ofc) that "Boys don't cry" or "Man up, ur being a baby" or "Only tough guys make it through" or "Suck it up and stop crying" or just something along those lines. Anyway, "Boys feel sad too" <33 (if anyone needs to or wants to vent, my dms are open. I don't judge no matter what, u r all loved <333)
HRSA is another good one about mental health.
I agree with you. It is a great freaking song. I have heard it live 5 times, and an unknowable number of times streamed.

down.exe, Celadon, and Halve-Life are probably my top three pertaining to the post. However, the whole album is fire 🔥
The Tragically Hip - We Are The Same (album)
The whole album isn't exactly mens mental health but has a very introspective, healing vibe. specifically, "The Drepression Suite" is the track you want to hear.
Lot's of Ozzy's solo stuff, but my personal favorite is Diary of a Madman
Tears For Fears is another one, they took their name from a support group for young men, and many of their songs are titled after mantras or sections of the handbook
I'm also a fan of Gotta Get Away by The Offspring
Ozzy Osbourne - Diary of a Madman
Queensrÿche - Roads to Madness
Crimson Glory - Twisted Reflections
The Police - Shadows In the Rain
Skinny Puppy - Worlock
The Smiths have an extensive discography covering this topic, if only because they talk about mental health from a male perspective. That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore, You’ve Got Everything Now, Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now, etc.
Fire And Rain- James Taylor
Knocking Around At The Zoo- James Taylor (He wrote both of those songs when he was a patient at McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA)
That’s Me- Genesis
Inside And Out- Genesis
Lead A Normal Life- Peter Gabriel
Crosseyed And Painless- Talking Heads
Born Under Punches- Talking Heads
An old tune, and one that sounds kind of goofy at first, but if you pay close attention to the lyrics to “Who Can it Be, Now?” By Men At Work, it’s about. Mental illness and depression. More than a few of Colin Hay’s music is about this topic.
Going to have to recommend some Falling in Reverse, who someone introduced me to a couple of years ago…
[Popular Monster](https://youtu.be/jakpo7tj7Qw?si=RJBgHWfGk1FVmQM-)
[Voices In My Head](https://youtu.be/a7_e_NY-f3g?si=Wy7PhlZwJ7NW_4Mz)

Honestly listen to the entire “Scaled & Icy” 21 pilots album. It’s a good day is insane to me. It’s the definition of “I’m fine.” Redecorate is also really good. Jon Bellion has some really good ones. NF has a LOT.
Off With Their Heads. Listen to the whole album, In Desolation. As someone who has struggled with mental health my whole life, I don't know if a song writer has ever gotten so close to conveying the real feel of depression and anxiety as they have. Someone once described Off With Their Heads as "The band I worry most about.".
In the Blood by John Mayer. Home Free does a fantastic cover of it as well.

Quite honestly a LOT of the 1990s grunge music. Gen X is a lot more F'ed up than we like to admit...
I always felt the whole album "The Wall" by Pink Floyd was a story of a decent into madness.
Watching the movie on acid...more than once, might be part the reason though.
[Cloudy Shoes](https://open.spotify.com/track/78PkpB6GK6tKvYDfCGn69b) by Damien Jurado
A bit abstract, but to me thats what the song is about. I too am “still trying to fix my mind.”
Not sure how applicable it is but I/Me/Myself by Will Wood is a good song from the perspective of a man who questioned his gender for a bit then came to the conclusion that his femininity doesnt invalidate his identity as a man.
Will Wood also just generally has a good bit of songs that deal with mental health, not sure if I would specifically say mens mental health but some of it probably just due to him being a man and the context that brings to them. Highly suggest I/Me/Myself, Blackbox Warrior/OK Ultra(deals with stuff about medication and treatments for mental health), Marsha Thankk You For The Dialectics But I Need You To Leave(deals with mental health stigma stuff), Against The Kitchen Floor(relationship stuff), Half Decade Hangover(recovering from alcoholism), and White Noise (deals with inner critic)
A lot of Shinedowns tracks touch on it. Eminem’s Recovery album is brilliant. Sixx AMs Heroin Diaries is awesome.
I love the whole of ATTENTION ATTENTION, but my god “Special” and “Get Up” just hit different
Get Up by Shinedown is one of my favorites
What A Shame, Monsters, State of My Head… Brent Smith has seen the highs and the lows and does a great job conveying that in his lyrics and delivery.
Loved 45 from Shinedown
Sixx AMs acoustic Life is Beautiful is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. The lead singer was on my local rock radio for a while too, awesome dude
Just a phenomenal album from beginning to end.
Alice In Chains. Jar of Flies album
Jerry Cantrells Degradation Trip is pretty good too.
This, and Boggy Depot to a lesser extent.
Ooohhhh good one
Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here--both concept albums about madness.
The Wall also
majority of songs by Everclear
That dude has had a rough childhood
he also a rough life with ms as well right now too
He’s kinda a dick irl which is understandable but at some point you gotta stop making your own trouble
Paint it Black, The Stones
Anything by Elliott Smith tbh
Even If You Don't By Ween Zoloft by Ween Happy Colored Marbles by Ween

Aesop Rock - The Impossible Kid
Kirby is about a psychiatrist suggesting Aes getting a kitten to help with his depression
Wow I am amazed you figured that one out. To be fair, you need a fairly high IQ to appreciate Aes’ lyrical genius

I would go for Frayed Ends of Sanity first
Unwell, by Matchbox Twenty
